SANFORD, Fla. (AP) -- The judge in the murder trial of George Zimmerman said Saturday that prosecution audio experts who point to Trayvon Martin as screaming on a 911 call moments before he was killed won't be allowed to testify at trial.
The screams are crucial pieces of evidence because they could determine who the aggressor was in the confrontation before Zimmerman fatally shot the unarmed teenager. Martin's family contends it was the teen screaming, while Zimmerman's father has said it was his son.
Judge Debra Nelson ruled that the methods used by the experts aren't reliable. But her ruling doesn't prevent the 911 calls from being played at trial.

PIN DROP
JFK'S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60's when
DeGaulle decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaulle said he wanted all US
Military out of France as soon as possible.
Rusk responded, "Does that include those who are buried here?"

When in England, At a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the

He answered by saying,

Its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom
Beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for
In return is enough to bury those that did not

Four-Wheeled Scooter Pushes Limits Of Law With City And State
In keeping with the resort’s continuing demand for scooters and scooter-based vehicles, a local sports shop appeared before the City Council this week to push for the town’s approval of a new four-wheeled “Scoot Coupe Buggy” – even going so far as to offer test rides in the City Hall parking lot.
But town leaders say the go-ahead for the vehicle is not up to them, and the scooter will remain un-rented for the time being.
Waterways Marina owner Ron Croker told officials Monday night that the vehicle was designed to increase safety for recreational renters who may not be used to driving on two wheels.
“They’re much more familiar to someone who drives a car than are two- or three-wheeled vehicles,” Croker said. “The learning curve is pretty much zero.”

CORKER AMENDMENT PERMANENTLY OFFERS CITIZENSHIP TO THOSE OVERSTAYING THEIR VISAS
Just as public anxiety about the weak border security provisions in the Senate immigration bill was building, GOP Sen. Bob Corker stepped forward with an amendment to "fix" the problem. The result of his efforts, however, has been a "Christmas tree" measure, covering items far beyond border security. Breitbart News has learned exclusively that one provision of Corker's amendment will allow workers who stay in the country past their visa will remain on the "path to citizenship."
Even in the future, breaking the law won't stop progress on what VP Joe Biden calls the "unfettered path" to citizenship.
The Corker Amendment ostensibly addresses measures to beef up border security. It, however, is also likely to be the last amendment considered on the immigration bill. As such, it has become a 1,000+ page amendment to supplant the current proposal and provide multiple new provisions. It has become the vehicle for ObamaCare 2.0.

Harbour League Event Special OPS In The U.S.
THE HARBOUR LEAGUE
Cordially Invites You to
The Last Line
Join The Harbour League as we host Lt. Col. Anthony (Tony) Shaffer (ret.) to discuss Special OPS in the U.S.
Since 2005 Lt. Col. Shaffer has been a controversial figure for some political circles and a resource to others.
His first book, Operation Dark Heart, was a New York Times best seller and caused much angst with-in the Department of Defense. The book was based upon a diary he kept while in Afghanistan and covered triumphs as well as mistakes committed by our military brass. DOD tried to censure the book even after first approving its publication. It bought all 9500 copies in the first printing and had them destroyed. This made front page headlines in The New York Times at the time. The redacted version became an immediate best seller.
During his military career, Shaffer was a real life “Jack Bauer” assuming more than 40 different aliases while serving his time in the field. In addition to serving two combat tours in Afghanistan, he has been deployed to Thailand, Germany and New Zealand and provided special support to Army Intelligence during Desert Storm/Desert Shield. He has been interviewed on numerous television and radio shows and is frequently brought in as a military analyst to provide his opinions and experience to current situations. Col. Shaffer currently serves as the Director of External Communication of the Center for Advanced Defense Studies (CADS) and is a consultant.

GOP Lawmaker Proposes Lerner Rule
The bill would require federal workers to be fired if they don't answer questions from Congress.
Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) on Thursday proposed legislation that would require federal workers to be fired if they don't answer questions from Congress.
The bill is a reaction to Lois Lerner, the IRS official who refused to answer questions about the IRS's targeting of conservative groups during a congressional hearing last month. Lerner told the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, "I have not done anything wrong," then invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination on the advice of her lawyers.

Another Month, And Job Losses Continue For Maryland Families
Maryland lost 5,700 jobs in May according to the latest available numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Maryland(-.2%) also saw the highest jump in its unemployment rate in the mid-Atlantic region from 6.5% to 6.7%.
"Every month in Maryland is like Groundhog's Day - over and over again we hear this administration talk about jobs, yet more times than not, Maryland families wake up to learn once again our state has lost jobs," said Larry Hogan. "Career politicians think that if they say something enough times, it will eventually become true. And while the O'Malley / Brown administration likes to talk about jobs, the cold harsh reality is that 5,700 hard working Marylanders lost their job last month."
More Hogan: "The time for results is long overdue and the O'Malley / Brown administration has no more excuses left. They have been at the helm of our state's economy for seven years, there is no one else to blame for these job losses. The need for real change in Maryland has never been more clear."
Nationwide, the employment rates in 25 states jumped in May while 17 states saw their unemployment rates increase. Only Louisiana(-.4%) and Tennessee (-.3%) experienced higher increases in their unemployment rates for May.

It's Raining Taxes!
July 1 brings the New Rain Tax!
|
Unfair, Uncertain, Unnecessary, Unwarranted, UGLY!
Those are just a few words that describe the new Stormwater Management fee - better known as the Rain Tax. If you don't know how much your bill is, you're not alone. The Rain Tax will appear on our property tax bills due out in July. |
How Did We Get Here?
In 2012, HB 987 passed in Annapolis requiring the 9 most populated counties plus Baltimore City to charge property owners a stormwater utility fee by July 1, 2013. Stormwater is rain.
Arguments were made in the House of Delegates and the Senate to amend and even kill the bill. The measure passed largely along Party lines. I VOTED NO.
Environmental groups and the Leadership in Annapolis pushed this new tax through. They claimed that the EPA requirement mandated a new tax. However, Virginia sued the EPA and prevailed - proving in court that the EPA does not have jurisdiction to impose taxes and fees on states. The O'Malley/Brown team did not join in that lawsuit, but rather worked to pass yet another tax in Annapolis. And our Attorney General, Doug Gansler, did not fight for us either.
One more reason for Maryland businesses (i.e. jobs) - that will get hit with a huge Rain Tax bill - to leave and move to Virginia. Commercial properties, including some churches, shelters, soup kitchens, and animal shelters, will get taxed thousands and thousands of dollars per year in Maryland beginning July 1, 2013.
How will businesses pay for this new Rain Tax? They will pass it on to consumers. Gas tax, rain tax, sales tax, increased tolls, new fees, increased fees - it's a steady drumbeat from the liberal leadership in Annapolis that hurts working families and senior citizens on a fixed income.
|
Unfair and Uncertain
If you live in one of the 10 counties identified in the law: Anne Arundel, Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Carroll, Charles, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, Prince Georges, you will be charged a Stormwater Management Fee - or Rain Tax. Each county and the city are mandated by the law passed (HB 987) to set up a fee structure. Each of the 10 jurisdictions is taxing at different rates. 10 counties + 10 different rates = mass confusion. If you live in one of the other 14 counties that have not been required to charge a Rain Tax, you will not see a bill this year. However, it's certainly possible for them to tax you next year. After all, most of those counties do impact the Bay too and the rain falls across our state not just in 10 counties. |
What Is My Rain Tax?
Frederick Co has the best solution - charging only 1 penny! Residential, commercial, agriculture, non-profit, - all pay 1 penny per year! Blaine Young and the other Frederick Co Commissioners are showing good leadership by protecting citizens and taxpayers. Baltimore Co Rain Tax - $39 single family, $21 attached home, commercial varies by impervious surface and could be tens of thousands of dollars, non-profits and churches will get a discount from the commercial rate but will still have a significant bill. Not all the property Rain Taxes are finished yet. Harford Co Rain Tax - $12.50 single family going up to $125 next year. Commercial varies by impervious surface. Property owners can get up to a 100% credit on this tax for remediation on their property. Harford County has a great explanation on their website about this tax - Click Here to Read About Rain Tax The full tax will phase in over 10 years, this is just year one. Baltimore City Rain Tax - still finalizing their plan. $48- $144 per residence, commercial is HUGE, highest in the state and non-profits and churches are still negotiating their rates. Anne Arundel Rain Tax - $85 residential house, non-profits and churches $1 per year, commercial is huge and threatens to put some business under. The full tax will phase in over 3 years, this is just year one. Montgomery - already is charging most of their citizens a rain tax! Howard Co Rain Tax - $18 million per year will be generated! All properties are charged differently, about $75 year per residential house. Commercial and agriculture are high, and non-profits and churches have to pay too. Howard Co has a good website and property owners can estimate their Rain Taxes too - Click Here to Find Your Howard Co Property Charles, Prince Georges, and Carroll Counties have not finalized their Rain Tax structures yet.
Except Frederick County, residential rates are different than commercial, non-profit and agriculture. Some counties charge less for townhouses than single family homes and others do not. Those properties with large parking lots - like malls and churches - will be hit the hardest. Anne Arundel County did the right thing and is protecting churches and non-profits by only charging $1 annually. Your church, like mine, probably has a large parking lot. That bill will be VERY high. Please warn your pastors, as they may not be aware that this tax is on the horizon.
|
Unnecessary & Unwarranted
Usually, before a tax or fee is passed or raised, there are identified problems and SOLUTIONS. There are NO shovel ready projects in any counties! That's right - we will pay a Rain Tax in the 10 chosen counties, and government bureaucrats will find or create projects to spend our hard earned money!
Ugly
The non-partisan Department of Legislative Services estimates that the Rain Tax will cost local governments $482 million each year through 2025.
To put salt in the wound, the EPA is using bad data to formulate their Chesapeake Bay cleanup goals! The EPA admits they've known about this for more than a year. Click Here to Read Article
We all want a clean Chesapeake Bay. Yet the EPA and the State of Maryland are ignoring the Conowingo Dam - which is a major problem and filled with pollution from Pennsylvania and New York.

Some Immigrants Excluded From Health Care Overhaul
PHOENIX — President Barack Obama has championed two sweeping policy changes that could transform how people live in the United States: affordable health care for all and a path to citizenship for the 11 million immigrants illegally in the country.
But many immigrants will have to wait more than a decade to qualify for health care benefits under the proposed immigration overhaul being debated by Congress, ensuring a huge swath of people will remain uninsured as the centerpiece of Obama’s health care law launches next year.
Lawmakers pushing the immigration bill said adding more recipients to an already costly benefit would make it unaffordable.

OC Needs International Workers, Committee Tells State Dept.
Ocean City’s long involvement with international students could influence legislators considering an exemption in the Senate Immigration Bill that would ensure international students could continue to come to the resort and elsewhere in this country for short-term employment.
The international students, participants in the State Department’s Exchange Visitor Program, pay fees to sponsor organizations for placement and related services to be able to work for three months and travel on their J-1 visas for one month before returning to their home countries.
Many businesses need the international workers and would find it difficult, if not impossible, to continue without them. Because the need for them is so great and because Ocean City is considered a model for the program because of the involvement of so many citizens who work to enhance the students’ experiences, the Department of State asked the resort’s Seasonal Workforce Committee for information about the need to continue the program.

Congressman Harris Honors Maryland Small Businesses During 50th Annual National Small Business Week
The Backbone of the American Economy Deserves Recognition
WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week marked the 50th Annual National Small Business week – a time to celebrate the contributions of small business to the American economy. To recognize the efforts of small businesses in Maryland’s First Congressional District, Congressman Harris is creating an “Entrepreneur Certificate” that will be presented to businesses that are making positive contributions to their community. Throughout the week, Congressman Harris asked people in the first district to share with him businesses that they believe deserve recognition.
“Every day we should be celebrating the dreamers and doers who make the American economy strong,” said Harris. “This week, especially, we recognize the contributions small businesses make to this country. We must champion their hard work, dedication, and sacrifice because these entrepreneurs are the lifeblood of our economy.
“In these tough economic times, Washington needs to be supporting small businesses now more than ever by advancing pro-growth policies that help – not hurt – these job creators grow and hire new workers. I will continue to stand for a competitive tax system, sound spending, and against burdensome regulations so our small businesses can reach their full potential and achieve their American dream.”

IRS Sent $46,378,040 in Refunds to 23,994 ‘Unauthorized’ Aliens at 1 Atlanta Address
The Internal Revenue Service sent 23,994 tax refunds worth a combined $46,378,040 to “unauthorized” alien workers who all used the same address in Atlanta, Ga., in 2011, according to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA).
That was not the only Atlanta address theoretically occupied by thousands of “unauthorized” alien workers receiving millions in federal tax refunds in 2011. In fact, according to a TIGTA audit report published last year, four of the top ten addresses to which the IRS sent thousands of tax refunds to “unauthorized” aliens were in Atlanta.
The IRS sent 11,284 refunds worth a combined $2,164,976 to unauthorized alien workers at a second Atlanta address; 3,608 worth $2,691,448 to a third; and 2,386 worth $1,232,943 to a fourth.

A Movie Poster For The Documentary About The Obama "Presidency"
I may be reaching with this parody of this late-80's Eddie Murphy movie. I was a kid when it came out so I don't know how well known it is...
STUNNING VIDEO SHOWS PARKINSON’S PATIENT BEFORE AND AFTER TURNING ‘DEEP BRAIN’ TREATMENT DEVICE OFF
Patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease lose some of their motor function, leading to violent trembling, rigidity and stiffness, among other symptoms. There are a variety of treatments for this disease, one of the most invasive being Deep Brain Stimulation.
A New Zealand man who had this procedure done — neurotransmitters were placed deep in his brain in areas where electrical nerve signals create the symptoms of Parkinson’s — and recently showed what he is like with the Deep Brain Stimulation device turned on and off. And the video is stunning.
Andrew Johnson, the 35-year-old Auckland man and author of the blog Young and Shaky, wrote that he was “curious about what would happen when I turned my neuro-stimulator off.” He explained he would be flying and wanted to be prepared if going through airport security screeners would turn off the implanted device, which he wrote was known to happen.

Chicago Teachers’ Union President: “Rich White People” To Blame For Chicago School Failure
Chicago’s public schools are extraordinarily bad. How bad? Well, 79% of their 8th graders aren’t grade-level proficient at English and 80% aren’t grade-level proficient at math. Naturally, the head of the teachers’ union in that city is saying that the buck stops with her for that terrible performance and…oh wait, actually she’s blaming “rich white people” because she sucks at her job.

Bethany Beach-The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash in which a bicyclist was struck and killed this afternoon on SR 1 north of Bethany Beach.
Preliminary investigation has determined that the crash occurred at approximately4:40 p.m. this afternoon as Dorothy Brenner-66 of Pittsburgh, PA was riding a bicycle traveling on the shoulder of Coastal Highway (SR 1) northbound. For unknown reasons, Brenner attempted to cross the northbound lanes in a diagonal direction from the shoulder towards a median crossover, into the path of a non-contact vehicle that was traveling northbound in the right lane. The non-contact vehicle was able to aggressively brake and swerve to the left avoiding Brenner. The evasive maneuver by the non-contact vehicle forced a 2007 Chevrolet Panel Van operated by Craig C. Thomas-53 of Lewes, DE, also traveling northbound, to brake and swerve to the left, where the front of the van struck Brenner and her bicycle in the left lane. Brenner was ejected from the bicycle onto the grass median.
Dorothy Brenner-66 was pronounced dead at the scene.
Craig C. Thomas-53 was properly restrained and not injured.
Preliminary indication has determined that alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this incident.
Coastal Highway (SR 1) northbound and southbound were restricted to one lane of travel for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared. The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this crash.

HISTORICAL COMMENTS BY GEORGE CHEVALLIER 6-22-13
Coming Home
While his years in the lumber camps of South Carolina must have entailed many hardships, my grandfather never said much about them except for the few amusing stories which he related to me.
His next stop was Cincinnati, where he worked for a carriage maker. It was here that he learned many of the skills that carried him through life. One of the most amazing things was how a 19 year old boy could manage to get a photo of himself back to Salisbury without any damage. This photo was made into two post cards. I have both of them. One was sent to my grandmother before they were married. The card, sent in 1908, was addressed to Josephine Kelly, 200 Second St., Salisbury, Md.
I went to look for this house and figured it was on the corner of Second and Pearl. There is nothing there now, so I figured that time had claimed another milestone in my life. Then I came across a book issued by the City of Salisbury in October, 1952. The City decided to renumber all the streets in Salisbury. This book gave all the old numbers with the corresponding new numbers. This has proved to be an invaluable tool in researching any address in Salisbury prior to October, 1952. The new address was 134 Second St. and there is a house on it. Verification of it being the same house was made through the comparison with a photo I have of her sister standing on the front porch in 1906. The post card he sent to her was cut into an oval and framed to be cherished her entire life, for it was always displayed prominently in their house. The other resides in my post card collection. As you can see by the photo of the card, he really dressed up to have his picture taken. He had also not started growing his moustache yet (or he wasn’t old enough to grow a decent one).
From Cincinnati, he went to Minnesota where he found work in the wheat fields. While there he became enamored of a certain young lady who was the owner’s daughter on the farm where he worked. I do know that he slept in the hayloft in the barn. Her parents never thought he was good enough for their daughter. He didn’t have any money and he didn’t have any land. So he returned to Salisbury in 1910 with hopes that he could make enough with his newfound skills to impress them when he returned. However, as my grandmother told me years later, when he returned she “set her little cap for him” and he never again moved away from Salisbury.

THE "KINGS AMBASSADORS"
THE "KINGS AMBASSADORS" WILL BE SINGING AT:
ST Andrews Methodist Church---400 E. Vine St.---Salisbury
Saturday, June 22nd at 6.p.m.
Hi Joe,
As you can see below ----I'd sent this ad to the papers Jun 9th, to be published for our church this coming Saturday night, the 22nd. It didn't happen for some unknown reason & I am so disappointed !!! I was planning on putting the information on your blog Friday. However , with this happening----I am asking you if you would possibly post it Friday & Saturday for us? ( I do realize you don't normally do this )
We are working to raise money for a new roof for the church . Much more damage was discovered when the contractors come to give their bids & amounted to over $70,000 ---- for church members to raise. Most of us being seniors it's harder for us to do things requiring laboring work to make the money. This group , The Kings Ambassadors , is kind enough to come to sing at our church to help raise money----with all the "good will " offering being given back to our church.
With this understanding, I hope you'll see how important it is to our church to have this posted more then once & hoping you will do that for us.
Thanks for the good you do for others in getting truths out there on your blog site and -----of course ----- the good works you do for the animals ! ( I also am a strong advocate for them! )
FBI Admits To Using Surveillance Drones On US Soil
As if the news of the NSA's phone and internet spying weren't enough to worry us, the FBI has just admitted to using surveillance drones to spy on Americans on US soil. During a Congressional hearing on telephone data collection, FBI director Robert Muller said the agency is in the "initial stages" of developing privacy guidelines, and has only used drones in a "very, very minimal way." However, Americans are skeptical of such a description after being told that sweeping data collection was only a "modest" invasion of our privacy. Democratic Senator Mark Udall, said he is "concerned the FBI is deploying drone technology while only being in the 'initial stages' of developing guidelines to protect Americans' privacy rights." Senator Udall explained that he understands drones have the potential to "more efficiently and effectively perform law enforcement duties," but promised to do everything in his power "to hold the FBI accountable and ensure its actions respect the US constitution." In keeping with the defense of NSA spying, Director Muller urged Congress to consider national security before placing any limits on drone surveillance and data collection. He said, "Are you going to take the dots off the table, make it unavailable to you when you're trying to prevent the next terrorist attack?" Our nation is at a crossroads in deciding how much privacy we are willing to give up in the name of security. As Benjamin Franklin said, "those who would give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." This won't be an easy debate. Stay tuned.
