Cleveland Restaurants Offer Free Hamburgers For Life To Man Who Helped Save Kidnap Victims

Despite the initial PR grab on McDonald’s part to get in touch with Charles Ramsey, the Cleveland man who was instrumental in saving three women who had been kidnapped after he noticed one of them while on his porch eating a Big Mac. While McD’s hasn’t followed up, the man’s hometown restaurants are instead issuing him the opportunity to dine on hamburgers free of charge for the rest of his life.

According to The Cleveland Plain Dealer, more than a dozen area restaurants are pledging to supply Ramsey with a burger anytime he drops in, in tribute to his willingness to stop eating and help one of the victims escape from the house she’d been held in with her daughter and two other women for years.

The restaurant where Ramsey works also created a special burger to honor his heroic deed.

Obama To Media: Support The Stop Me Before I Kill Again Act

al Die Hard movie, John McClane is desperately trying to get the police to notice terrorists have taken over Nakatomi Tower. He’s already pulled the fire alarm and called 911, but no one had taken him seriously. Finally, an officer is dispatched to check it out and, after a half-hearted look, he decides there’s nothing happening and starts to leave. It’s then McClane throws a terrorist’s body out a window and onto the hood of the patrol car and says the famous line, “Welcome to the party, pal!”
That character, Sgt. Al Powell, would recognize how the progressive mainstream media feels this week with the revelation the federal government, headed by their guy, attempted to criminalize what they do for a living by claiming Fox News reporter James Rosen was a “co-conspirator” to espionage for essentially doing his job, their jobs.

Hundreds of dead from the Obama administration’s Fast and Furious program didn’t interest the Democrat Media Complex. Neither did the cronyism of “green” loans to campaign donors or the illegal “recess appointments” to the National Labor Relations Board and Consumer Finance Protection Bureau. Neither did the president’s decision to refuse to enforce the immigration laws in any way other than cheering his implementation of the “DREAM Act” without it having been passed by Congress, or his choice to not defend the Defense of Marriage Act which, agree with it or not, is the law of the land.

There are many more scandals and abuses of power that would be 48-point headlines if the man in the White House had an R after his name instead of a D, and that’s before we even get to the disaster of Benghazi and the IRS targeting political opposition to the president. But now that the Obama administration has targeted their progressive media allies themselves, journalists suddenly have perked up a bit.

Store-Brand Sunscreens From Target, Walmart, Walgreens Outperform Higher-Priced Options In Test

If you think you get what you pay for when you buy sunscreen, you might be in for a surprise. Our less-sunburned cousins at Consumer Reports recently put a dozen sun-protection products to the test and the ones that came out on top were also among the least expensive.
The good news is that eight of the 12 tested products scored Very Good ratings when it came to protecting against UVA and UVB rays. Only one product — All Terrain AquaSport SPF 30 — scored a Fair rating in that category. This product also had the lowest overall score on the Consumer Reports list.

At Least One Milwaukee Mom Won’t Be Sending Her Child To School On Cross-Dressing ‘Switch It Up Day’

MILWAUKEE – Deidri Hernandez’s seven-year-old son won’t be in school today, after officials at Tippecanoe School for the Arts and Humanities confirmed they’re still holding “Switch It Up Day” – a time for students to come dressed as members of the opposite sex.
Hernandez tells EAGnews the day was originally billed as “Gender Bender Day,” but Tippecanoe officials made the name change after she called Principal Jeffrey Krupar to complain.

The Milwaukee mother was not impressed.

“I didn’t have a problem with the title. I had a problem with the activity taking place,” Hernandez says.

She says it’s “ridiculous” and “creepy” to ask elementary boys to come to school dressed as girls, and vice versa, and predicts that having students dress as “transvestites” will distract from the learning process.

Some Dead Things To Memorialize On Memorial Day

On this Memorial Day it is appropriate to memorialize a number of long-dead American institutions (RIP). The first would be the main principles of the Declaration of Independence, beginning with the notion that governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed. The Lincoln administration destroyed that principle long ago when it responded to the withdrawal of consent by eleven Southern states by waging total war on their civilian populations for four long years, killing as many as 400,000 Southerners according to the latest research, while bombing, burning, and looting Southern cities and towns.

The Declaration of Independence also declared in its closing paragraphs that the states were "free and independent" of any other government. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! At the time, "free and independent states" meant that Virginia, Massachusetts, New York, etc. were considered to be free and independent states in the same sense that Great Britain, France and Spain were free and independent states.

Treason in the U.S. Constitution is defined as "only" levying war upon the states, or giving aid and comfort to THEIR enemies. This of course is exactly what the Lincoln regime did, while redefining treason to mean exactly the opposite of what it means in the Constitution: opposition to the federal government.

Obama Uses 1917 Espionage Act To Go After Reporters

There is one problem with the entirely justified if self-interested media squawking about the Justice Department snooping into the phone records of multiple Associated Press reporters and Fox News’s James Rosen.
The problem is that what the AP reporters and Rosen did arguably violates the letter of the law.

The search warrant in the Rosen case cites Section 793(d) of Title 18 of the U.S. Code.

Section 793(d) says that a person lawfully in possession of information that the government has classified as secret who turns it over to someone not lawfully entitled to posses it has committed a crime. That might cover Rosen’s source.

Surprise! AT&T Adds New $0.61 Monthly Administrative Fee To Wireless Customers’ Bills

Start up the chorus of grumbling and shine up your best “What in the what now?” faces: AT&T has just added a $0.61 monthly administrative fee to wireless customers’ bills. It’s totally great for AT&T of course, as reports indicate the move could bring in about $518 million in extra moolah for the company in 2014. So, yay for you, AT&T?

Heralded as the “Mobility Administrative Fee,” the new tariff actually went into effect May 1. Don’t feel bad if you didn’t notice, because we didn’t either. Anyone with Consumer and Individual Responsibility User (IRU) lines should see this fee tacked on.

But what is the fee for, anyway? And should we be grumpy about it?

Pa Parents Charged With Driving With Girl, 10, In Dog Cage In Bed Of Pickup

Abbey Carlson, 29, who is the child's mother, and Thomas Fishinger, 30, both of Millvale, were awaiting arraignment on Monday night in Night Court on the charges filed when Millvale police stopped the truck near their home on Evergreen Road.

Sequestration and the receding furlough threat don't mean the government has stopped hiring. In fact, agencies have around 27,000 open positions. The Washington Times reports, since the March 4 sequester, the government has posted 10,000 jobs. A fourth are positions at the Veterans Affairs Department, which is exempt from the sequester. The Transportation Security Administration has more than 400 openings, mostly for airport screeners. Some jobs seem unlikely to be filled. The Defense Department is looking for 71 bartenders and 123 waiters.

Chinese Hackers Access Major Weapons Systems

WASHINGTON/CANBERRA (Reuters) - Chinese hackers have gained access to designs of more than two dozen major U.S. weapons systems, a U.S. report said on Monday, as Australian media said Chinese hackers had stolen the blueprints for Australia's new spy headquarters.

Citing a report prepared for the Defense Department by the Defense Science Board, the Washington Post said the compromised U.S. designs included those for combat aircraft and ships, as well as missile defenses vital for Europe, Asia and the Gulf.

Among the weapons listed in the report were the advanced Patriot missile system, the Navy's Aegis ballistic missile defense systems, the F/A-18 fighter jet, the V-22 Osprey, the Black Hawk helicopter and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.

Interior's announcement came a day before cancellation of Park Service furloughs.

Report: U.S. Only Advanced Economy Without Guaranteed Vacation

WASHINGTON - Planning a summer vacation? Congratulations.

A study from the Center for Economic and Policy Research says that the United States is the only advanced economy in the world that doesn't guarantee workers paid vacation time.

According to the study, entitled "No Vacation Nation Revisited", only 49 percent of full-time, low-wage workers in the country get any vacation time at all, while 90 percent of high-wage workers do.

That means, according to the study, that 23 percent of American workers get no paid vacation time.

Park Police Avoid Furloughs

The Park Police says it doesn't need to furlough workers anymore. It's canceling them, effective Saturday. National Park Service Director Jonathan Jarvis said police have already taken three days of unpaid leave. The agency has found other ways to cut costs. And, with seven months of the fiscal year under its belt, Jarvis said it has a more optimistic view of the financial situation. Furloughs had been expected throughout the summer. Nearly one in 20 federal workers, including some park police, were on furlough Friday because of sequestration.

Girl Scouts Summer Camp Sites For Sale

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - When it came time to draw up a budget, one of Iowa's regional Girl Scout councils reviewed its programs and made a proposal that would have been unthinkable a generation ago: selling its last four summer camps.

Troop leader Joni Kinsey was stunned. For decades, the camps had been cherished places where thousands of young girls spent summer breaks hiking, huddling around campfires and building friendships. Kinsey, whose daughter learns to train horses at camp, immediately started a petition to fight the idea.

Other scouting alums and volunteers have taken up the cause, too, packing public meetings, sending letters to newspapers and recording a protest song for YouTube. When those efforts failed, they filed a lawsuit.

U.S. Border Entry Fee Study Sparks Opposition

SEATTLE (AP) - By Michael Hill's estimation, 90 percent of the people pumping gas at his station just south of the U.S.-Canada border in Washington state are Canadians.

Gas north of the 49th parallel, he said, is about $1.30 per gallon more expensive than in the United States. But that's not the only product that Canadians seek in visits to Washington state: Beer, wine and milk are significantly cheaper (beer and wine alone are roughly half the price in the U.S.).

Add a strong Canadian dollar and the result is a key element of the economy in the towns of Whatcom County. For example, the town of Blaine, population just shy of 5,000, generates over $225,000 from a penny per gallon gas tax, which is about 30 percent of its street maintenance budget.

Bad Science And The ‘Rain Tax’

A storm is brewing in the Chesapeake region over ways to go about, and pay for, the bay’s expensive pollution cleanup.

Conservative politicians, especially Republicans, are having a field day deriding the stormwater runoff fee mandated last year by the Maryland General Assembly. Local Baltimore-Washington governments must set fee schedules by July 1. Whoever first attached the derisive moniker “rain tax” to the stormwater levy deserves a gold star from Propaganda Addicts Anonymous.

The phrase stuck like crazy glue. It has come to symbolize — in a gross distortion — the overreach of an oppressive, heavily intrusive government in the Annapolis State House. “Now they’re even taxing the rain!” is the way those in the no-tax crowd describe the situation.

An Elementary School Teacher had twenty-six students in her class.
She presented each child in her classroom the 1st half of a well-known proverb and asked them to come up with the remainder of the proverb.

Some Unions Now Angry About Health Care Overhaul

WASHINGTON — When President Barack Obama pushed his health care overhaul plan through Congress, he counted labor unions among his strongest supporters.

But some unions leaders have grown frustrated and angry about what they say are unexpected consequences of the new law — problems that they say could jeopardize the health benefits offered to millions of their members.

The issue could create a political headache next year for Democrats facing re-election if disgruntled union members believe the Obama administration and Congress aren’t working to fix the problem.

Six Injured In Maryland Boat Explosion

At least six people, including five children, were injured when a boat exploded just before noon Monday near Annapolis.

The 32-foot Wellcraft boat was heading into the South River after refueling at the Oak Grove Marine Center in Edgewater, just west of Annapolis, when one of the boat's two engines stopped working, said Lt. Jack Beall, a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. When the boat's operator tried to restart one of the engines, there was an explosion.

Of the nine people on board, at least six were injured, including all five children on the boat. A 9-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl were flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore; a 13-year-old girl was taken to Johns Hopkins Children's Center by ambulance; and a 9-year-old boy, a 13-year-old girl and a 31-year-old woman were taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center by ambulance. None of the injuries was believed to be life-threatening.

Maryland's Tax Burden Weighs Down Economic Ranking In New Report

Maryland's increasing tax burden is weighing down the state's economic outlook, according to an annual ranking of state business climates.

The 2013 "Rich States, Poor States" report by the American Legislative Exchange Council, a conservative policy group, saw Maryland's economic outlook rating plummet from 20th among states to 35th. Though Virginia also fell from last year's third-place ranking, it was still among the top of states at fifth in the new report.

"That was certainly one of the most precipitous falls in economic competitiveness anywhere in the country," said Jonathan Williams, director of ALEC's Tax and Fiscal Policy Task Force. "You've seen over the last several years, Gov. [Martin] O'Malley's 32 separate tax and fee increases in his tenure as governor. Certainly that is one of the major drivers in the precipitous fall."

Lawmakers Facing Recall Bids Over Strict Gun Laws In Colorado

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A Democratic campaign office here usually would be quiet this time of year, a few weeks after the state's legislature wrapped up work and lawmakers headed off to summer vacations.

But even though it's not an election year, the office is in full campaign mode, with volunteers working the phones and reviewing maps in anticipation of a new front of modern campaigning -- the recall phase.

A handful of Democratic state lawmakers in Colorado face recall petition efforts in what looks to be the first wave of fallout over legislative votes to limit gun rights. In an era in which recall efforts are booming, from governor's offices down to town councils and school boards, the Colorado efforts will serve as the first test of gun-rights groups' ability to punish elected officials who expanded gun control laws after last year's Aurora, Colo., and Newtown, Conn., shooting massacres.

Florida Court Debates What Jury Can Hear In Trayvon Martin Killing

ORLANDO, Florida (Reuters) - A court hearing begins Tuesday to determine how Trayvon Martinshould be portrayed to a jury when a neighborhood watch captain goes on trial for killing the unarmed black teenager last year.

George Zimmerman, whose highly anticipated second-degree murder trial is scheduled to start June 10, has said he shot Martin in self-defense during a fight in February 2012.

At issue in Tuesday's hearing are pieces of evidence that suggest 17-year-old Martin used marijuana at an undetermined time and had been suspended from school shortly prior to his death. The defense also wants to use text messages and social media posts that Zimmerman's lawyer said would show that Martin presented himself as "street wise" and interested in guns.

Passengers Returning To US After Cruise Ship Fire

BALTIMORE (AP) -- For the second time this year, a fire at sea has aborted a cruise ship's voyage. This time, aboard Royal Caribbean's Grandeur of the Seas and the ship's 2,200 passengers were expected back in Baltimore on Tuesday after being flown on charter flights from the Bahamas.

The fire that began at 2:50 a.m. Monday was extinguished about two hours later with no injuries reported. A cause wasn't immediately known but the U.S. Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board planned to investigate.

The ship, which left Baltimore on Friday for a seven-night cruise, was headed originally to CocoCay, Bahamas. Royal Caribbean said the ship never lost power and was able to sail into port in Freeport, Bahamas, Monday afternoon. The ship launched in 1996 and was refurbished last year.
