Tim Bowers got to decide for himself whether he wanted to live or die.
When the avid outdoorsman was badly hurt Saturday in a hunting accident, doctors said he would be paralyzed and could be on a ventilator for life. His family had a unique request: Could he be brought out of sedation to hear his prognosis and decide what he wanted to do?
Doctors said yes, and Bowers chose to take no extra measures to stay alive. He died Sunday, hours after his breathing tube was removed.

damn.
ReplyDeleteWas part of a similar situation with my father...he made the same choice and we honored his wishes...vey difficult but one that I'm grateful we accepted.
ReplyDeleteGod bless him and the doctors for allowing it. About 15 years ago I broke my neck in an accident, but was fortunate that I didn't sever the chord and be paralyzed. I told my wife to allow me to die if I was paralyzed. I still hold that wish today.
ReplyDelete"His C3, C4 and C5 vertebrae were crushed."
ReplyDeleteC3, C4 and C5 keep the phrenic nerve alive. The phrenic nerve is what controls your diaphragm which allows you to breath. Good choice and God Bless him.
Anon 11:43, That makes 2 very similiar incidences I know of with same outcomes. Someone upstairs was looking out for you & my daughter the same time period.
ReplyDeleteAND, our loving God will welcome him to heaven! The real tragedy is what was done to Dr. Kevorkian for helping sick people whose CHOSE to die...
ReplyDeleteJust so you know. The Church considers Euthanasia just as immoral as abortion. The Death penalty as well. If you are in favor of this, you do not have a leg to stand on when you oppose abortion, at least as Christianity sees it. It's all about man deciding when to end a life, as opposed it being God's decision.
ReplyDeleteI hear the deer hunting in Heaven is outstanding.Maybe he got wind of it too.
ReplyDeleteI don't think we can include this in the euthanasia category 1241. Euthanasia is more along the lines of giving someone something to aid in death. In this situation something was taken away. God took away this man's ability to breath. Humans intervened and restored his breathing with the aid of medical devices. So who is right and who is wrong from the Christian standpoint? Isn't it questioning God's will when his breathing was unnaturally restored?

ReplyDeleteIn the other place wild life hunts the humans.
So sad, If it was me, I would want the same. R.I.P.

This is totally different you moron. There is nothing in the Bible that demands modern technology keep you alive when you are supposed to die. You are a Bible thumping idiot and it's people like you that cause good or potential Christians to run from Christianity.
4:19, thank you
ReplyDeleteHave to agree with 419PM…and the thank you from 431Pm. Quality of life means something and so many times I hear people with family members who are bedridden/vegetarian stage, etc who pray that they just sleep away.
ReplyDeleteThe bible was written by mortal men of extreme intelligence to keep the sheeple under control. I don't buy it.
ReplyDeleteThe same goes for the writing of our Constitution. But back to the bible, have you ever noticed how humans were used in the facilitation of every miracle recorded? God could have easily done it all without involving us,but he chose to involve us to make us stronger.Every miracle in the bible has a human name attached, like Moses,Joshua,Abraham, etc.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good example as to why you should have a Living Will. Just find an example on line and print a copy.
