Bicyclist Injured In Seaford Crash

Location: Sussex Highway (U.S. Route 13) north of Herring Run Road, Seaford, DE

Date of Occurrence: Saturday, October 5, 2013, at 7:24 p.m.

Vehicle and Occupant:
Driver: Mark Lowe, 51, of Laurel, DE (properly restrained, not injured)
Vehicle: 2012 Honda Civic

Bicyclist: David Emery, 48, of Seaford, DE (admitted to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in critical condition)

Resume:
Seaford- A crash yesterday evening left a bicyclist critically injured.

The incident occurred at 7:24 p.m. as Mark Lowe, 51, of Laurel, drove a 2012 Honda Civic south in the left lane of Sussex Highway (U.S. Rt. 13). As the vehicle approached Herring Run Road the side view mirror on the car's passenger side struck a bicyclist who was riding in the roadway.

The bicyclist, David Emery, 48, of Seaford, was ejected from the bicycle. Investigators have not determined the direction in which he was traveling prior to the crash. Emery was transported by ambulance to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation into this crash. No charged have been filed.

  2. Maybe the person on the bike was making a left turn on Herring Run Road. Just a guess.

  4. that would be called a left turn lane, not a left lane. Or it should be.

  5. I read it again, the car was in the left lane, the cars passenger side mirror hit the bike which was riding in the roadway. Seems to me the bike should not have been that far over in the roadway that he could hit a car in the left lane.

  6. Why was he on the bike at 7:24 pm? It's dark by then.
