THOMAS SOWELL: 'EXTORTION' SHOWS NEED TO DISMANTLE PERMANENT POLITICAL CLASS

Many among the intelligentsia prefer to think of special interests as corrupting our dedicated public servants with campaign contributions. But Peter Schweizer's new book, "Extortion," shows what happens as the extorting of tribute by politicians in a position to do a lot of harm to businesses that do not pay them protection money.

Campaign contributions are just one of the things that can be extorted. The number of spouses, children or other relatives or favorites of Congressional incumbents who get high-paying jobs in private businesses regulated by government can hardly be coincidental.

When Al Gore was Vice President during the Clinton administration, he simply phoned various special interests and told them how much he wanted them to contribute.

He did not have to spell out the reasons why they should — or why they had better. They already knew from experience how the game is played.

Entire Town Comes Together To Give Boy With Cancer An Early Christmas

All Devin Kohlman wants for Christmas this year is ... Christmas. And the entire community of Port Clinton, Ohio, banded together to ensure that the eighth-grader, who has terminal brain cancer, would get his wish. On the day that Kohlman was released from the hospital, his big-hearted neighbors were putting the finishing touches on a massive Christmas display, including a freshly cut and trimmed tree, a gazebo adorned with decorations and a giant star that read "Merry Christmas, Devin." Later that night, as he watched from his mother's window, hundreds of people sang carols and chanted his name. And, of course, Santa Claus made an appearance, rolling into town on his motorcycle (it's still early for the reindeer) and promising Devin that he would "get the moon" this year. "You guys, Santa Claus on a motorcycle got the biggest smile I've seen in a while," Devin's mother, Alexis, shouted to the crowd. Merry Christmas, Devin.

Facebook Photo Shows Another Google Mystery Barge Off The Coast of Maine

On October 27, CNET reported that a similar barge was docked in the San Francisco Bay. “Is it a floating Google data center? A floating Google Glass store? Or something else altogether?” asked Daniel Terdiman, writing for the tech media website. The barge is docked at a former U.S. Navy station on Treasure Island.

On October 26, Tom Bell, writing for the Portland Press Herald, reported “a four-story windowless building” docked in the Portland Harbor. “Its purpose and its owner’s identity have been kept secret.”

Despite a cover story that the barge was some sort of promotional gimmick for Google Glass, the wearable computer with an optical head-mounted display, a Google patent for a water-based data center filed in 2007 reveals a different agenda. The patent was granted in 2009.

Google is linked to the CIA and the national security state through the CIA’s technology research division, In-Q-Tel. In 2005, Google acquired the CIA funded satellite mapping software subsequently named Google Earth.

Breaking News: Federal Appeals Court Reinstates Most Texas' Abortion Restrictions

A federal appeals court issued a ruling Thursday reinstating most of Texas' controversial new abortions restrictions, just three days after a federal judge ruled they were unconstitutional.

The decision by the panel of judges at the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals means as many as 12 clinics won't be able to perform the procedure starting as soon as Friday.

The panel said the law requiring doctors to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital can take effect while a lawsuit moves forward. The restrictions could take effect Friday.

America's Hunters

Pretty Amazing!
A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and arrived at a striking conclusion:
There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin. Allow me to restate that number: 600,000!

Over the last several months, Wisconsin's hunters became the eighth largest army in the world.

(Thats more men under arms than in Iran. More than France and Germany combined.)

These men, deployed to the woods of a single American state, Wisconsin, to hunt with firearms, and NO ONE WAS KILLED.

That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of Pennsylvania and Michigan's 700,000 hunters, ALL OF WHOM HAVE RETURNED HOME SAFELY.
Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.
And then add in the total number of hunters in the other 46 states. It's millions more.

The point?

America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower!
Hunting... it's not just a way to fill the freezer.

It's a matter of national security.
That's why all enemies, foreign and domestic, want to see us disarmed.
Food for thought, when next we consider gun control.

NSA Infiltrates Links To Yahoo, Google Data Centers Worldwide, Snowden Documents Say

The National Security Agency has secretly broken into the main communications links that connect Yahoo and Google data centers around the world, according to documents obtained from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden and interviews with knowledgeable officials.

By tapping those links, the agency has positioned itself to collect at will from hundreds of millions of user accounts, many of them belonging to Americans. The NSA does not keep everything it collects, but it keeps a lot.

According to a top-secret accounting dated Jan. 9, 2013, the NSA’s acquisitions directorate sends millions of records every day from internal Yahoo and Google networks to data warehouses at the agency’s headquarters at Fort Meade, Md. In the preceding 30 days, the report said, field collectors had processed and sent back 181,280,466 new records — including “metadata,” which would indicate who sent or received e-mails and when, as well as content such as text, audio and video.

THESE WHITE BOXES HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT ALL OVER THE WORLD MAY BE A U.S. GOVERNMENT SPY TOOL

The German newspaper Der Spiegel over the weekend revealed that not only did the U.S. monitor the cellphone of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, it also allegedly utilized the American embassy in Berlin as a listening station by means of a windowless structure filled with hi-tech gadgetry on the roof to monitor cellphone and other sensitive communications.

An Israeli intelligence analyst has now discovered similar mysterious white structures positioned on the rooftops of many key American embassies including in Beijing, Moscow, and Tel Aviv and published the photos to support his claims. While the structures appear to have a solid exterior, they are actually permeable by communication signals, according to the German report.

Der Spiegel described attic-like rooms positioned on the roof of the embassy in Berlin from which the CIA and NSA are able to monitor “a large part of cellphone communication” in the epicenter of the German government, calling the operation “a nest of espionage.”

In The Wake Of Prison Scandal, Legislators Discuss Reforms — Body Scanners, Wiretaps, Polygraphs

Body scanners and phone wiretaps throughout Maryland’s prison system are the latest in a series of legislative proposals being considered by lawmakers trying to eliminate corruption in the state’s correctional facilities.

Other suggestions include polygraph tests for correctional officer applicants and mandatory minimum sentences for convicted contraband smugglers.

In a work session Wednesday, the General Assembly’s commission on prison safety discussed new security measures to respond to the federal indictments of 13 correctional officers at the Baltimore City Detention Center who were accused of being active gang members and bringing dangerous contraband into prisons. The indictments caused a stir when they were released this May, and the Special Joint Commission on Public Safety and Security in State and Local Correctional Facilities was formed to address systemic problems in the prison system.

$50 Billion In Unfunded State And Local Retirement Benefits, Study Says

The money Maryland’s state and local governments have failed to set aside to fulfill pension promises made to teachers and employees has ballooned to more than $22.5 billion over the past five years, a new report has found.

But the counties that run their own pension systems are in much better shape than the state of Maryland, with the exception of Prince George’s County.

The most under-funded retirement benefits continue to be health insurance for these retirees, which amount to $28 billion for state and local governments. Only a handful of county governments have tried to sock money away.

Now’s The Time To Take Action Against Urban-Suburban Runoff

We are making progress reducing pollution from agricultural lands and sewage treatment plants. But polluted runoff from urban and suburban streets, parking lots, rooftops, and other impervious surfaces keeps increasing.

Polluted runoff from urban and suburban areas creates flooding, can threaten human health and carries toxic chemicals into local waterways. In developed areas, it can be a significant contributor to the impairment of streams and rivers.

For example, in Anne Arundel County, the Public Works Department estimates that runoff from city streets and suburban parking lots contributes more than 880,000 pounds of nitrogen pollution to local waterways every year. This is more than the nitrogen pollution from agriculture and septic systems combined.

O’MALLEY ADMINISTRATION FIRED DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES ADMIN WHISTLE BLOWER

At the time advocates were lobbying for an alcohol tax increase to raise revenue for the disabled, the Developmental Disabilities Administration knew about and covered up $38 million in unspent state and federal funds from fiscal year 2010, according to court documents filed by a whistleblower.

Carrie Phillip, former Chief Financial Officer of the much-beleaguered agency tasked with administering services to Maryland’s disabled community, filed a complaint in Baltimore City Circuit Court, alleging she discovered and notified top agency officials about the unspent funds, top officials in the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene ordered her to hide the surplus funds in 2011, and that she was subsequently terminated for blowing the whistle.

Phillip also alleges she alerted her superiors about inadequate internal controls, and agency staff doing work they were unqualified to perform.

ELECTION INTEGRITY ACTIVISTS: OBAMACARE 'BIGGEST VOTER REGISTRATION FRAUD SCHEME IN HISTORY'

Conservatives point to the Obamacare website exploiting a strange loophole in the National Voting Rights Act to question whether the President's signature healthcare law had a political motive, as well.

Several election integrity activists have alleged that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), or Obamacare, does not appear to have been an effort to conduct healthcare reform to fix what was described in 2009 and 2010 as a broken healthcare system.

The law passed Congress with just Democratic Party support. Instead of being an honest attempt to fix America’s healthcare woes, “I think [it] is the biggest voter registration fraud scheme in the history of the world,” said Gregg Phillips, the founder of the election integrity group Voters Trust, in an interview with Breitbart News Wednesday morning.

Forget Obamacare, Will Hillarycare Be Next?

Since the Government seems to know what's best for all Americans, will Hillary be next in an attempt to take control of Auto Insurance?

What's the difference. It's a huge scam too. $1,200.00 for a windshield? A slight ding that costs $1,000.00 to repair. Nah, deal with it, it ain't so bad, (the Government tells you).

Ever wonder why they can show as many commercials on television as the pharmaceutical companies do?

Many wonder why young people are not getting a drivers license these days, because they can't afford the insurance. Well, expect, (if, God Forbid she's ever elected) Hillary to come up with Hillarycare.

The kicker, you won't get a license to drive if you don't join their program. Unless your undocumented or illegal, that is.

Democrats, because they know how to get your vote.

Early ‘John Doe’ Probe Left Local Family In A Panic, Fearing Worst

BERLIN — For several hours on Sunday morning, a local family was under the impression a family member was the victim in the fatal pedestrian collision on Route 50 near Route 589, but Maryland State Police investigators said this week they were merely trying to identify the victim and did not intend to wrongly inform the family of the bad news.

Around 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, Stephen Bird, 38, of Madison, N.J., was struck and killed by a vehicle on eastbound Route 50 near its intersection with Route 589. However, Bird was not carrying any identification and when Maryland State Police (MSP) investigators attempted to identify the victim, one of the officers on the scene determined the victim loosely met the description of a local man named Tim Bailey, who works at Wal-Mart nearby and was known to walk back and forth across Route 50.

With a “John Doe” on their hands and a possible match on the victim, MSP troopers began exploring the possibility the victim was Bailey, setting in motion a traumatic sequence of events for the Bailey family who were mistakenly led to believe their brother was the victim in the fatal collision.

READ THE CHILLING NOTE SENT TO GOV. SCOTT WALKER’S WIFE

It’s no secret that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is intensely disliked by organized labor and Democrats.

Indeed, the Republican governor’s opponents have made their feelings toward him very clear since he was first elected — especially during the state capital protests in 2011 and the defeated effort to have him recalled.

But if you thought the rhetoric aimed at Walker during the 2011 protests was bad, just wait until you hear his version of events included in his upcoming book, “Unintimidated: A Governor’s Story and a Nation’s Challenge” — particularly the chilling note that was sent to his wife.

State Patrol Capt. Dave Erwin, a former United States Marine, brought the governor a particularly eerie piece of hate mail during the protests that contained very specific information about his wife and children.

Consumer Confidence Plunges Most In 2 Years

Following the lowest UMich confidence print in 2013, Gallup's economic confidence collapse, and Bloomberg's index of consumer comfort signaling major concerns among rich and poor in this country (in spite of record highs in stocks), today's Conference Board Consumer Confidence data continues to confirm a problem for all those 'hoping' for moar multiple expansion. From 80.2 in September, confidence collapsed to 71.2 (the largest MoM drop in 2 years) to its lowest in six months, and notably below expectations. As we have noted in the past a 10 point drop in confidence has historically led to a 2x multiple compression in stocks (which suggests the Fed will need to un-Taper some more to keep the dream alive). Hope for the future dropped to 7-month lows but what is perhaps most intriguiging, just as with the Bloomberg surveys, we are seeing the wealthiest cohorts confidence plunging (even as stocks soar to new highs). It would appear the Fed has lost its wealth effect inpiration.

DON’T ‘TREAT’ A CAR THIEF BY LEAVING YOURS RUNNING -- ‘TRICK’ HIM BY LOCKING YOUR CAR AND TAKING THE KEY

(PIKESVILLE, MD) – As cold weather approaches, Maryland State Police are reminding drivers that an unoccupied vehicle with its engine running is an open invitation to car thieves who are prowling neighborhoods, convenience stores, and gas stations, looking for the easy steal.

Troopers across Maryland will be working to educate drivers that leaving a vehicle running, or with the keys in it, are the quickest ways to have it stolen. Leaving a vehicle unoccupied with the engine running is also illegal. Violators fortunate enough to find their vehicle still there when they return could receive a citation that carries a fine of $70 and one point. Maryland motor vehicle law states that before a person driving a motor vehicle may leave it unattended, he or she must stop the engine, lock the ignition, remove the key, and set the parking brake.

Although Maryland law enforcement and citizens working together have driven down vehicle thefts to record lows in recent years, there were still more than 14,000 vehicles stolen in Maryland last year. That means a motor vehicle is stolen every 36 minutes. More than 50 percent of the vehicles stolen were unlocked and more than 30 percent of the stolen vehicles had the keys inside them. Investigators estimate that as many as 4,000 of those vehicles stolen were actually running at the time they were stolen.

Car thieves are like anyone else. They love to find ways to make their job easier. State and local police know that as the weather turns colder, they will take more reports of vehicles stolen while they sat running in front of a house, a convenience store, or a gas station. Owners always report they were just ‘warming up’ their car, or they were only inside the convenience store for a few seconds.

Police have scores of cases involving car thieves cruising neighborhoods early in the morning just looking for the telltale plume of exhaust from an unoccupied vehicle. Other thieves loiter around gas station and convenience store parking lots watching for the driver who leaves his or her vehicle running just to keep it warm while they go inside. This especially concerns police when it involves parents who leave their children in cars with the engine running. Car thieves don’t always check to see who is in the back seat before stealing the vehicle.

During the next several months, troopers will be especially alert for unoccupied vehicles with the engines running. State Police are reminding drivers that the most important steps to vehicle theft prevention are easy – lock your car and take the key. Additional layers of protection can be added, such as using a mechanical anti-theft device, etching the vehicle identification number onto various locations of the automobile, and investing in a vehicle tracking security system.

Remember, ‘you hold the key’ to preventing auto theft.

System Reset 2014-2015

Resets occur when the price of everything that has been repressed, manipulated or obscured is repriced.

The global financial system will reset in 2014-2015, regardless of official pronouncements and financial media propaganda hyping the "recovery." Despite the wide spectrum of forecasts (from rosy to stormy), nobody knows precisely what will transpire in 2014-2015, so we must remain circumspect about any and all predictions-- especially our own.

Even as we are mindful of the risks of a forecast being wrong (and the righteous humility that befits any analysis), it seems increasingly self-evident that financial systems around the world are reaching extremes that generally presage violent resets to new equilibria--typically at much lower levels of complexity and energy consumption.

John Michael Greer has described the process of descending stair-step resets (my description, not his) as catabolic collapse [11]. The system resets at a lower level and maintains the new equilibrium for some time before the next crisis/system failure triggers another reset.

There is much systems-analysis intelligence in Greer's concept: systems without interactive feedbacks may collapse suddenly in a heap, but more complex systems tend to stair-step down in a series of resets to lower levels of consumption and complexity--for example, the Roman Empire, which reset many times before reaching the near-collapse level of phantom legions, full-strength on official documents, defending phantom borders.

In the present, we can expect the overly costly, complex, inefficient, fraud-riddled U.S. sickcare (i.e. "healthcare") system to reset as providers (i.e. doctors and physicians' groups) opt out of ObamaCare, Medicare and Medicaid; like the phantom armies defending phantom borders of the crumbling Empire, the vast, centralized empire of sickcare will remain officially at full strength, but few will be able to find caregivers willing to provide care within the systems.

New World Trade Center Blasted As A Disaster

Banksy, the elusive British artist nearing the end of a month-long New York City residency, published an op-ed column slamming the design of One World Trade Center, the 104-story skyscraper scheduled to be opened on the World Trade Center site next year.

"As a visitor staying New York for the past few weeks one thing has become very clear to me," Banksy wrote in the op-ed. "You've got to do something about the new World Trade Center. That building is a disaster. Well no, disasters are interesting. One World Trade centre is a non-event. It's vanilla. It looks like something they would build in Canada."

"The attacks of September 11th were an attack on all of us and we will live out our lives in their shadow," Banksy continued. "But it's also how we react to adversity that defines us. And the response? 104 floors of compromise?"

The Most Important Race Of 2014 Won’t Happen On Election Day

The single most important — and telling — contest of the 2014 election will happen not next November but rather on May 20 when Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell squares off against wealthy businessman Matt Bevin in Kentucky’s Republican primary, according to non-partisan political handicapper Stu Rothenberg.

“I think McConnell needs to be concerned,” said Rothenberg in an interview with Post TV’s “In Play”. He added that the race “really will say a lot about the direction of the Republican party.”

Stu explains more in the “In Play” clip below — and make sure to read his column on the race too.

Should Eastern Shore Politicians Follow Suit?

New FBI Director James Comey says he'll direct all new agents to visit the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial to remind them that the Bureau should not abuse its power. He says there are "dangers of becoming untethered to oversight and accountability." Comey addressed more than 3,000 FBI employees and guests in a ceremony at the agency courtyard. President Barack Obama and Former Attorney General John Ashcroft attended. Comey gained national recognition as a Justice Department attorney under Ashcroft. He rushed to Ashcroft's hospital bed to urge him to sign off on a surveillance program they viewed as illegal. Comey took over last month for Robert Mueller.

Those Who Haven't Served To Be Recognized As Veterans

Members of the National Guard and Reserve who are serving at least 20 years but have not yet been called up for active duty may soon be granted full veteran status. The bill proposed by Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) passed the House unanimously. The Congressional Budget Office says the bill is cost neutral and military retirees who would fall under the bills jurisdiction would receive no extra benefits besides being legally recognized as veterans for their two or more decades of service to our country. The bill now heads to the Senate.

DMV To Offer Free Transponder For New E-ZPass Accounts

Make Holiday Travel Easier & Save $15 with Promotion
Dover -- Holiday travel can be a hassle with overcrowded shopping, unpredictable weather conditions, and heavy traffic at every turn. The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is announcing a promotion to make one part of your holiday activities easier. Starting November 1, 2013, all customers opening a new individual E-ZPass account will receive a free transponder for their vehicle, which normally would cost $15.

The free E-ZPass transponder promotion is open to residents of any state, and will end December 31, 2013. The goal of the free transponder offer for new account holders is to increase the E-ZPass utilization rates at Delaware toll sites on Route 1 and Interstate 95. Commercial accounts and "On-the-Go" sales are not eligible for the free transponder.

DMV Director Jennifer Cohan explained, "E-ZPass is an effective year-round tool that can be used to make Delaware and regional travel easier and more convenient with the ability to use highway speed toll lanes. By offering a free transponder for each new account opened, we are providing users with the opportunity to take advantage of a great resource, while also ensuring that we keep our toll facilities running efficiently."

Delaware has issued over 350,000 E-ZPass transponders since the introduction of the electronic tolling system in 1999. Delaware's three main toll plazas currently operate at a 67% usage rate for E-ZPass customers. Nearly 21,000 new transponder units have been purchased in 2013 by Delaware customers, averaging over 2,300 sales per month. E-ZPass is a modern toll collection technology that makes traveling more convenient, helps drivers save money through multi-use discounts, and helps reduce traffic congestion for everyone. There are currently 25 tolling agencies in 15 states that offer E-ZPass services.

There are many easy and convenient ways for you to open a new account and receive a free E-ZPass transponder:

* Visit the Delaware E-ZPass Customer Service Center in person at 26 Old Rudnick Lane in Dover.
* Call the Delaware E-ZPass Customer Service Center at 1-888-397-2773
* Go to www.ezpassde.com and click on "Get E-ZPass"
* Visit the I-95 Newark Toll Plaza, 1200 Whitaker Road, in Newark; open 24/7.

DelDOT Receives $5.25 Million In Indian River Inlet Bridge Settlement

Dover -- The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) today announced that it has resolved its litigation involving the original, and now removed, roadway embankments for the Indian River Inlet Bridge which was begun under a prior administration. The lawsuit was scheduled for a 12 week trial beginning in May, 2014.

The resolution, which arose out of voluntary mediation among the parties, requires the payment of $5.25 million to the State. These funds must be applied to transportation projects for which federal funds may be used.

Both MACTEC and Figg deny responsibility. While DelDOT, MACTEC and Figg all had highly regarded experts prepared to testify in support of their claims and defenses, the uncertainties of litigation led to the compromise reached to resolve the litigation.

"This settlement allows DelDOT to receive more than $5 million for Delaware's taxpayers now, while avoiding the burdens and uncertainty of a lengthy trial involving complex geotechnical engineering issues next spring," said Secretary Shailen Bhatt. "This was a challenging case with strengths and weaknesses on all sides. I believe the settlement provides a reasonable resolution to this matter, and I look forward to applying the proceeds to help meet Delaware's transportation needs."

'EXTORTION': HOLDER ABUSES LAW TO ENRICH FORMER EMPLOYER, TARGET REPUBLICANS

We are going to punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us. –President Barack Obama, October 2010

The Obama Justice Department has increased Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) enforcement actions over 65% compared to the prior administration, a dramatic shift that stands to benefit Attorney General Eric Holder’s former law firm Covington & Burling—the firm that helped write the law and describes itself as “a leading voice” on FCPA enforcement and compliance. Several FCPA investigations by the Obama Justice Department have included companies headed by top Republican donors including Koch Industries, Las Vegas Sands, Inc., Walmart, News Corporation, and Hewlett-Packard.

Government Accountability Institute (GAI) President and Breitbart News Senior Editor-At-Large Peter Schweizer makes the stunning charges and lays out the evidence in his new book, Extortion: How Politicians Extract Your Money, Buy Votes, and Line Their Own Pockets. Schweizer appeared last week on 60 Minutes and Hannity after the New York Times published two articles on the book’s investigative findings.

20 Drills That Prove The DHS’ Official New Enemy Is The American People

Out of 47 “scenarios” being practiced by first responders during Urban Shield 2013 this October 25 – 28 in the San Francisco Bay Area, at least 20 of them are “domestic” – either stated explicitly, or implied (see below in BOLD CAPS) – and possibly more.
Overall, the scenarios vary widely in scope – up to and including “odor investigation” – but the “domestic terrorists” are generally characterized as being anything from “anarchists” (Tea Partiers? Christians? Patriots?) to “homegrown” terrorists (recent American-Moslem converts duped into FBI-sting operations?)

Interesting to note that, as of this writing, the English “Urban Shield” Wikipedia entry has disappeared… but you can still get it in French. (Too bad for you if you don’t read French.)

However, there is still a brief mention of Urban Shield in the English Wikipedia entry for the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office (ASCO).

Democrat-On-Democrat "Smearing" In Maryland

Our friend Jeff Quinton – who runs a great Maryland-based blog entitled The Quinton Report – has an interesting post up about the national scandal surrounding the Old Line State’s Attorney General, Doug Gansler.

For those of you who slept through last week, Gansler’s gubernatorial candidacy suffered a major setback when he bumbled, stumbled and fumbled his way through a press conference attempting to explain his appearance at a teenage boozefest in nearby Delaware back in June.

Why was Gansler on the defensive? Because like so many politicians of both parties who go in search of problems where none exist (and cheap publicity), he staked out ground as an aggressive opponent of underage drinking.

Anyway, Gansler’s implosion in response to the scandal (which you can read more about here) sucked all the oxygen out of the real story – the Democratic political machine that has unsheathed the long knives and aimed for his jugular.

We’re referring of course to allies of Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, who is aggressively pushing the gubernatorial candidacy of his No. 2 – Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown.

Obama Knew Most Americans Would Not Be Able To Keep Their Existing Insurance Under Obamacare As Early As 2010

The news keeps going from worse to worse-er for the administration and Obamacare. The latest hit, however, does not revolve around the dysfunctional healthcare.gov website, whose hundreds of millions of lines of faulty code will take a very long time to fix, but relates to Obama's promises that individuals would be able to keep their existing healthcare plans following the rollout of the Affordable Care Act. The truth, as NBC reports, is they can't but what's worse is that Obama knew as early as July 2010 that 40 to 67 percent of customers will not be able to keep their policy. And that's not all: since the 14 millions consumers who buy their insurance individually will be forced into comparable plans, they are all set to experience a "sticker shock" when "opting" for the mandatory alternatives.

From NBC:
President Obama repeatedly assured Americans that after the Affordable Care Act became law, people who liked their health insurance would be able to keep it. But millions of Americans are getting or are about to get cancellation letters for their health insurance under Obamacare, say experts, and the Obama administration has known that for at least three years.

Four sources deeply involved in the Affordable Care Act tell NBC News that 50 to 75 percent of the 14 million consumers who buy their insurance individually can expect to receive a “cancellation” letter or the equivalent over the next year because their existing policies don’t meet the standards mandated by the new health care law. One expert predicts that number could reach as high as 80 percent. And all say that many of those forced to buy pricier new policies will experience “sticker shock.”

The reason for the sticker shock: mandatory cadillac plan replacements:
Individual insurance plans with low premiums often lack basic benefits, such as prescription drug coverage, or carry high deductibles and out-of-pocket costs. The Affordable Care Act requires all companies to offer more benefits, such as mental health care, and also bars companies from denying coverage for preexisting conditions.

Obama, it turns out, knew all about this:

Even The Author Of The Patriot Act Is Trying To Stop The NSA

It’s been about four months since Edward Snowden’s leaks on the NSA’s blanket surveillance programs outraged privacy and Internet activists the world over, spawning real-life protests, online petitions, and high quality parody videos. Some countries got so mad, they even talked of leaving the US-run Internet. Now, the policy may actually change. Republican Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner will introduce an anti-NSA bill tomorrow in the House, and if it makes its winding way to becoming law, it will be a big step towards curtailing the NSA’s bulk metadata collection.

Wisconsin Rep. Sensenbrenner, along with 60 co-sponsors, aims to amend one section of the Patriot Act, Section 215, in a bill known as the United and Strengthening America by Fulfilling Rights and Ending Eavesdropping, Dragnet Collection, and Online Monitoring Act—also known by its less-clunky acronym version, the USA Freedom Act.

Section 215 has been used by the Bush and Obama administrations as justification for broad spying activities. Rep. Sensenbrenner—who actually authored the Patriot Act—likened these blanketed spying activities to abuse. “The NSA has gone far beyond the intent of the Patriot Act, particularly in the accumulation and storage of metadata,” said Sensenbrenner in an interview with National Journal about the bill earlier this month. “Had Congress known that the Patriot Act had been used to collect metadata, the bill would have never been passed” as a response to the September 11th attacks

Obama’s Military Purge

Is the Obama administration in the midst of a military purge? This year alone, nine senior commanding generals have been fired by the administration, and retired generals and current commanders who have spoken to TheBlaze believe that political ideology is the primary impetus behind the effort. “I think they’re using the opportunity of the shrinkage of the military to get rid of people that don’t agree with them or not toe the party line,” a senior retired general told website. ”Remember, as Rahm Emanuel said, never waste a crisis.” The general spoke on the condition of anonymity because he still provides the government with services and believes this administration would retaliate against him.

The terminations have a distinctly political odor surrounding them in at least three cases. In all three of these cases, Benghazi is at root. U.S. Army Gen. Carter Ham was heading the United States African Command when our consulate came under attack on September 11, 2012. Ham told Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) he was never given a “stand down” order preventing him from securing the consulate. Yet the Washington Times, citing sources in the military, said he was given the order and immediately relieved of command when he decided to defy it. The Times further noted that Ham “retired” less that two years after receiving the command when all other commanders of similar stature have stayed on far longer. Sources told TheBlaze Ham was highly critical of the Obama administration’s decision not to send reinforcements to Benghazi.

The Republican Embrace Of The Welfare State

The establishment GOP has accepted progressivism’s central premise.

Charles Krauthammer has come to my rescue. You see, I’ve been on the receiving end of some spirited reaction since asserting in last weekend’s column that what we commonly call the Republican establishment — i.e., not all individual Republicans but GOP leadership — “is more sympathetic to Obama’s case for the welfare state than to the Tea Party’s case for limited government and individual liberty.” The statement may have been provocative in the sense of expressing a truth that people on the political Right prefer not to talk about. But it was not controversial because it is indisputably true.

This week, Dr. Krauthammer, Washington’s most influential expositor of mainstream GOP thought, obligingly spared me the need to prove my point. He gave as clear an account of the modern Republican conception of “conservatism” as you will find. Fittingly, he did it on the program of progressive commentator and comedian Jon Stewart. Today’s smartest Republicans, self-aware enough to know their core views deviate significantly from those of conservatives in the tradition of Buckley, Goldwater, and Reagan, are more likely to say what they think to Jon Stewart. His audience is apt to be receptive, maybe even won over, by a mature progressivism portrayed as what conservatives really think. It is not likely to go over as well with, say, readers of National Review.

Black Mob Violence And Denial

Ask a cop. Any cop: Racial violence is worse than you know. Worse than I know even after writing the book on it, White Girl Bleed a Lot: The Return of Racial Violence to America and How the Media Ignore it.

That is why so many cops — active and retired — send me so many stories from around the country. They want more people to know about the epic levels of racial violence happening in almost every part of the country almost every night.

Here are a few from this weekend, courtesy of my cops.

Let’s start with a New Jersey bowling alley. For those who have not picked up a ball for a while, a visit to your local alley in the daytime is like stepping back in time. Same lanes. Same beat up shoes. Same scruffed up balls.

But weekend nights, many bowling alleys — and roller skating rinks too — shed their white, lower middle class trappings and are transformed into gleaming centers of hip-hop, with the latest and greatest in lights, sounds, fashion, booze and drugs.

All topped off with frequent large-scale, black mob violence.

The latest example came late Friday night in the Central New Jersey town of Piscataway. The Associated Press reports the violence:

Bush And The JFK Hit, Part 6: The Cold War Comes To Dallas

What possible connection could there have been between George H.W. Bush and the assassination of John F. Kennedy? Or between the C.I.A. and the assassination? Or between Bush and the C.I.A.? For some people, apparently, making such connections was as dangerous as letting one live wire touch another. Here, in anticipation of the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination in November, is the sixth part of a ten-part series of excerpts from WhoWhatWhy editor Russ Baker’s bestseller, Family of Secrets: The Bush Dynasty, America’s Invisible Government and the Hidden History of the Last Fifty Years. The story is a real-life thriller.

Note: Although these excerpts do not contain footnotes, the book itself is heavily footnoted and exhaustively sourced. (The excerpts in Part 6 come from Chapter 5 of the book, and the titles and subtitles have been changed for this publication.)

A Cauldron of Right Wing Americans, Right Wing Russians, and Nazis

In the ensuing years, George de Mohrenschildt bounced frenetically around every corner of the burgeoning energy landscape. In 1950, together with Poppy Bush’s old friend and former roommate Eddie Hooker, he launched a modest oil investment firm, Hooker and de Mohrenschildt, with “offices in New York, Denver, and Abilene.” At this time West Texas was the center of a new boom. Poppy Bush was working there in his role as a trainee for Neil Mallon’s Dresser Industries. Meanwhile, a vastly more ambitious enterprise was afoot in Dallas, where Mallon relocated Dresser Industries in 1950. At that time, Dallas was still a relatively modest-size city, but growing rapidly. Once primarily a banking center for wealthy cotton farmers, it had become a center of petroleum finance and home to the new breed of superrich independent oilmen. With help from House speaker Sam Rayburn and Senate Majority leader Lyndon Johnson, Dallas had attracted a number of defense contractors, which made it a growing hub of the nation’s military-industrial complex.

By the early fifties, Dallas contained a small and close-knit community of Russian émigrés, perhaps thirty in all. They were drawn together by business interests, an anti-Communist worldview, and participation in a new church they had founded, though many were not religious. Almost every week they attended social gatherings at one another’s homes. George de Mohrenschildt developed ties with the most important of them.

The man who would be considered the “godfather” of the émigré community was Paul Raigorodsky, a former czarist Russian cavalry officer who had fought against the Red Army. After the Bolshevik victory, Raigorodsky came to the United States with the help of the Red Cross and the YMCA. Like many of the other émigrés, he married into American society at a high level: his new father-in-law had set up the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank. Before long, he was on the oil and military track, with important assignments in war and peace, including some from powerful figures in the Bush-Dresser orbit. Some accounts have him serving in the OSS, the forerunner of the CIA. He also became an acknowledged friend of FBI director J. Edgar Hoover. Raigorodsky was a director of the Tolstoy Foundation, a U.S. government-funded organization that assisted Russian exiles.

The second most influential man in the Russian émigré community was George Bouhe, an oil accountant. In the 1920s, while a high school student in Petrograd, Bouhe had worked for the American Relief Administration (ARA), a spy-cover charity that provided food aid to the Russian population via branch offices set up by American executives in various Russian cities. Bouhe’s supervisors, impressed with his work, urged him to come to the United States. He crossed a river into Finland in the middle of the night and traveled to New York, where he went to work for the Rockefellers’ Chase Bank. Then he moved to Dallas, where he became the bookkeeper for Lewis W. MacNaughton, a partner in the highly influential petroleum geology consulting firm DeGolyer and MacNaughton and a board member of Dresser Industries.
