DINWIDDIE — A frail 70-year-old man known for his long hikes to gather aluminum cans and other items died Tuesday after he was bludgeoned and left lying in the yard of a vacant home, authorities said.
Carter Bascon Northington was found Monday evening lying in a yard in the 23000 block of Cox Road in rural Dinwiddie County, about 3 miles from his home.
He was taken to Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg and then to VCU Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.
