  1. This appears to be quite a busy day for our emergency workers. I didn't realize all this went on in my city.

This is obviously a paid fireman. The same one praising Rick Hoppes (more than likely Rick Hoppes himself) the other day.

Nice try Numnutz! Crawl back under that rock!

  6. Oh boy a car fire. That there really justifies having a 24 hour paid fire crew.

    NOT!!

Yes Moron! They had an entire paid fire crew on duty had a lunch hour between 11:55 and 12:52pm. Not to mention the numerous hours of down time through out the 24 hour shift.

  8. Obviously the need is for paid paramedics and not paid firemen.

Which station works 24 hour shifts. I thought the paid FF worked 8 hour shifts M-F.

  10. There is a 24 hour duty crew at Staton 16 on the Engine, and three 24 hour ALS ambulances, 1at each station. From 700-1700 each day M-F there is a Truck crew at Station 2. These personnel are assigned to that day work crew. From 0700-1900 M-F there is a Truck crew at Station 1, this crew transfers to Station 16 at 1900 and usually staffs a second apparatus at Station 16. That's if staffing allows, if not they fold into the engine crew at 16. The 24 hour crews are split among four shifts and work 0700-0700. In addition to the 3 ALS ambulances that are already staffed, the career personnel from Station 16 cover 4th run EMS calls. ALL career personnel are cross trained in Fire and EMS and rotate through assignments on the ambulance and the apparatus. The volunteer personnel respond from home for fires and rescues and cover additional apparatus. Anyone who has any questions feel free to ask any one if us. You can stop by either Station and we would be happy to answer questions or give a tour.

  11. 7:31 that was a very nice letter, and you sound like a true professional, but I will never belive that Salisbury needs a paid fire dept. But I do belive they need more EMTS.

  12. 7:31 PM You are not a real fireman cause I have read on this site that Chief Hoppes will not let no fireman read or comment on Salisbury News - so there.

  13. It doesn't matter what you think Joe. The paid firefighters are here to stay. They were here before you were born and will be here long after your gone. Volunteers are important in Salisburys combination system and it works just fine. Just remember you cant do what they do and the City has determined that there is a need for them.
