OCEAN CITY – Resort officials are hoping Fourth of July beach-goers will enjoy their day on the beach and Boardwalk and hang out for the fireworks without having to worry about beating the meter with the new option to pay a $50 flat fee at the Inlet parking lot.
On Thursday, July 4, the Town of Ocean City will be charging a $50 fee for all-day parking in the Inlet parking lot. The fee is good for one entry and will allow visitors to come as early as 5 a.m. and stay as late as midnight, without being charged an hourly parking rate.
“We hope the new flat fee parking will allow our visitors to be more flexible during their trip to Ocean City on July 4,” said John VanFossen, Deputy Director of Public Works. “We think this will not only allow visitors the opportunity to come to Ocean City early and stay late, but it will also smooth the amount of traffic exiting the downtown area after the fireworks.”

If it's not about the money, why can't people come and go as they want? Let them sell 1200 tickets to park and then they are sold out. When people pay their $50, give them a ticket so they can come and go throughout the day.

ReplyDeleteI said the same thing! I wonder how many will leave the parking lot not knowing they can't come back in to park later. It's all about the money. They can try to twist it anyway they want to. I hope no one goes there to park and the greedy people don't make as much as they would if they charged regular prices.
There's going to be pi$$ed off people there. I'm not going. Willards is free. I am not a stupid person. Happy 4th, folks!
ReplyDeleteWait why is there a fee in the first place, unless your a tourist out of state/country,because we play taxes to city and state for roads and a lot of other things but we are always charged for something. Isn't the boardwalk parking lot property of the city or state? Where is all that tax money going since I'm sure it's not going to fix up the city.
ReplyDeletePicket lines should be going on that day to let everyone know just how greedy ocean city is. I hope the lot stays empty all day and night long.
ReplyDeleteOUTRAGEOUS! They can stuff it. If everyone were to boycott the parking lot, this couldn't happen.
ReplyDeleteONLY proves why many people now does not go to ocean city. My Family hand I have not went there in 6-8 years as the prices there went crazy and you can find all inclusive vacations to better places with cleaner water for the same price you pay to go to O.C. for the week. Between the room rates / tolls / parking / eating there you can take your family to better places for around the same price. So WHY go to O.C and maybe become a victim of a crime as it seems the crime rate is rising everyday there.
ReplyDeleteHows many of you were actually planning to use the parking lot July 4th? Seems to be a good deal if you are planning to spend the day in OC and stay for fireworks. Do you know what it would cost if you had to feed the meters all day and evening? Do the math.
ReplyDeleteA much better deal than OC, plenty to find. How about a week at 4 star hotel in the Red Rocks, CO. Air +Car+Hotel for under $400 per person, or $1,600 for a family of 4. OC, hotel at $2,100 per week, gas at $300 to get there from DC, $1,200 for food, $300 for dinner out, and of that total about $50 in extra fees and taxes in OC. Even Disney is a better value, at least you get a real family experience!
ReplyDeletethis whole area is dying slowly but surely....the big white elephant known as ocean city is just a shadow of its former self! over priced hotel rooms, food parking, the town even looks run down what a joke....and the leadership of the town wont wake up and see every weekend less people are going there. give this area ten years if its lucky and there wont be much left.No real jobs and the locals here do everything to chase away the one thing that brings some money, the tourist.....
ReplyDeleteOcean City has just about priced itself out of business. The formally family resort, is all about profit and money. The high price to park, food, drinks, games, rides are ridiculous. Fortunately for me and many others high price parking, $10.00 french fries and $4.00 sodas only affect you if you purchase them. I can go to Ocean City and not spend a dime on the boardwalk.
ReplyDelete8:40 AM.....Disney is nice, but OC has the real clowns.
ReplyDeleteWhenever the government says "its not about the money", you can believe one thing for sure --- it IS all about the money. They don't do ANYTHING for our "convienence".....
