Changes In Fuel Taxes Will Prompt Changes In Gas Prices

WASHINGTON - The gas landscape is about to change dramatically in Maryland and Virginia.

On July 1, Maryland gas prices will go up 3.5 cents a gallon, as the state raises the gas tax for the first time in 20 years to help fund three mass transit projects, including the Purple Line.

In all, the increases in Maryland could add up to another 21.1 cents a gallon by 2018, according to an analysis by AAA Mid-Atlantic.

Virginia, on the other hand, is ending its excise tax on fuel and replacing it with an increase in the sales and use tax that will be dedicated to transportation. The change is the first for Virginia's fuel tax since 1987.

  1. The border cities will raise their prices to just under the new MD prices. Might want to go further in and get a better deal - I travel further in for a number of reasons already so I'll be on the lookout.

  2. So Virginia will lower the price on gas and up the price on everything else. So they will get even more tax money.

  8. Virginia and Delaware retail businesses near the state lines just love O'Malley and the spineless Democrats in Maryland. Conway, Cain, and Mathias need to go.

Oh, so gas wasn't high enough and lBay Bridge fee is going up to $6.oo.? Let's give Big Thanks to Marty OweMalley and his sidekick Tony Brown for "Boosting Up" the Maryland Economy, while we, the Taxpayers are getting SCREWED AGAIN. And soon enough one will be running for President and the other for Governor seat, begging for our votes, so folks remember this when you vote next time.
