Salisbury mayor Jim Ireton and District 1 councilwoman Shanie Shields were re-elected this evening in resounding victories. Jake Day unseated incumbent councilwoman Debbie Campbell, also by a landslide. The results were:
Mayor | ||
Joe Albero | 782 | |
Jim Ireton | 1,694 | |
District 1 | ||
April Jackson | 77 | |
Cynthia Polk | 80 | |
Shanie Shields | 145 | |
District 2 | ||
Debbie Campbell | 612 | |
Jake Day | 1,569 |
While these results are not official, the margin of victory for each candidate was large enough to negate any impact from the counting of absentee and provisional ballots. There are approximately 300 absentee ballots outstanding. As of today, approximately 250 ballots had been returned.
The council will reorganize later this month.

Wow! Were they giving out free cell phones? I'm glad I moved out of SBY and MD!
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting your best efforts into this. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family... be with them now. You've sacrificed enough already.
ReplyDeleteThe real winner is Mr. Wilber -- our once and future city attorney!
ReplyDeleteLike someone said: we get the government that we deserve.
ReplyDelete11:27-
ReplyDeleteCanning Wilber as the city attorney for Mark Tilghman cost Campbell her seat on the Council.
Thank you Joe for all your hard work the past several months. You would have made a great Mayor and just cant believe we have so many Liberals in this city! It's really time for me to close up shop here in Salisbury as most businesses will be doing now that the three stooges were elected/reelected today! Get ready for higher taxes and more rentals than ever! My house just dropped another $10,000 !
ReplyDeleteToday Salisbury lost not Joe. Joe has everything a good man can ever want. He was trying to give back to make your town a better place for all. But in the end you will get what you voted for or what you didn't vote for.
ReplyDeleteIt's scary --- the next Council president will either be:
ReplyDelete1. Jake (Speedo) Day
2. Laura (Blabbermouth) Mitchell
3. Shanie (Race Card) Shields
These people have no clue. Salisbury is a great town it is just sad that they follow liberal views just like the rest of America. I am shocked the town has not filed bankruptcy. This town is just like the ones that do keep voting these liberals in and they keep spending tax dollars. What is America coming to. What is America gonna do when we go broke as a nation? People can vote on gay issues gun issues don't really care about that.Welcome to Salisbury still no change,no jobs, property values going down, downtown empty lawyers and a court house. Pretty damn sad we can't even get a Harris Tetter here. Good luck Salisbury either way.
ReplyDeleteJoe;
ReplyDeleteA result like this is disappointing, but its also a moment to learn. YOu were heard, every day.
The question is WHY didn't your message resonate.
Small minds, simple thinkers will spew nonsense like "Cell phones" and other thinly veiled racist comments. And some will find comfort in that.
A leader will pick up, dust off and learn.
Jim Ireton, Jake Day and Shanie Shields should have been ran out of the city by a landslide, but it was just the opposite. Who did Debbie p!ss off to lose that bad to a nobody? This city will be on the verge of bankruptcy in 2 years.
ReplyDeleteJoe thank you for all that you have done and all that you do. I hope you keep this blog going and I hope you go back to blogging Salisbury and Salisbury only. Jim Ireton has to pay for what he did to those 3 city employees in Mojo's.
Going once, going twice ...
ReplyDeleteSOLD to realtors and developers.
What happened all those thousands of voters that Joe spoke to that promised to go out and vote for him. Sounds to me like there are 4,500 liars in Salisbury. You deserve better than that Joe, you are a good man.
ReplyDeleteShanie Shields could have been defeated by Cynthia Polk if April Jackson would have done the right thing and stepped down. If she had any intelligence she would have know that she didn't have a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI noticed slum lord former council member John Cannon went to the Jake Day/Jim Ireton victory party. What a damn RINO. If another Republican supports John Cannon again they are crazy.
ReplyDeleteYet again, Salisbury residents prove beyond any reasonable doubt just how foolish they are. I hope they enjoyed living in their homes they worked so hard to buy, maintain and improve. It is certain you will now be surrounded by ghettos. When I think of Salisbury, I'll always think of it fondly, from my sun drenched veranda.
ReplyDeleteThere is something in the water.....
ReplyDeleteThat's it, I'm leaving.
ReplyDeleteLet the taxing begin and stupidity of past politics of absolute idiots continue. Anyone in Salisbury should sell their homes and businesses and move NOW. The thugs and idiots have taken over just like what happened in November. The future of our country is damning. Going south as soon as I can where the majority of people actually have some common sense left. Salisbury is dead. They will find out the stupidity of their ways just like those who have voted for Satan's spawn in the White House, who is doing everything he can to destroy this nation and the people who were actually born here.
ReplyDeleteI'm leaving. Kenucky and Tennessee are looking good. I would stick around and fight, but it;s now a losing battle. I'll leave my house to the slumlords and go while I still can...
ReplyDeleteMust be the same people that re-elected our President.
ReplyDeleteThe lower shore has changed in recent years. It's taken on a more liberal climate with elected officials caving in to special interests at the expense of the taxpayers. What monkeys see (in Washington), monkeys do.
ReplyDeleteYou gave it your best shot, Joe. Now take a break and enjoy some quality time with family and friends. You deserve it.
May God have mercy on this city!
ReplyDeleteDebbie served her constituents well and we can only hope she will run again in the near future. The City of Salisbury has suffered a great loss and only because a few big businessmen tainted the picture to favor themselves.
ReplyDeleteSalisbury:
ReplyDeleteYou get what you bargained for & you deserve what you get. I'll be looking for a way out.
Thank you Joe for all you do.
Thank you Debbie for all you've done.
I wonder the impact of the redistricting. shields never has any problem with re election. How come they had 3 candidates in district 1? Those 2 won more votes than she did.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteSo sorry, Joe
I had a bad feeling about this election , with the rest of the country going left and liberal.
ReplyDeleteWow , the devil and his helpers will beat work.
We will become an entitlement city with nothing but low income housing and the landlords laughing all the way to the bank.
PAC 14 will be a real sensation to watch , reality TV at it's best.
Look out Virginia , here I come!
Another Bank closing downtown at main st. Shore bank , that will make good low income housing.
ReplyDeleteGet ready folks , the tax man is on the way. You wanted these guys , now you live with it!
No excuses joe. Jake proved it could be done.
ReplyDeleteI am just shocked!
ReplyDeleteI was afraid of this. As with Romney on the national level - people are not interested in jobs and working for a living.
ReplyDeleteWe as a country have lost our Republic.
Salisbury, as with our State and country as a whole, will continue to slide into desolation.
Make no mistake folks - the money WILL RUN OUT. That is when government will come in and control your life.
You put up a good choice Joe. Good luck to you in future endeavors.
Good ole boy BS wins again
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is the citizens get what they deserved. They allowed Debbie Campbell to get burned by a nobody who was hand picked by a sissy mayor. Debbie Campbell was the best council person and bean counter this city has ever had.
ReplyDeleteThe citizens voted for Jim Ireton again? WTH! Joe Albero was our best choice and they went for a liberal moron who spends most of his weekends in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware with his boy friend and gay friends. Jim Ireton the mayor represented him self as the spokesperson for Salisbury against the second amendment and gay marriage. He will raise taxes out of site that even renters won't be able to live in Salisbury. All of Salisbury's property will be deemed surplus and sold to developers who bought their election. This city is doomed and everyone who voted for those two should be ashamed of themselves. I know good Republicans who proudly supported those two on their Facebook pages and they should be ashamed of themselves.
Thank you Joe and Debbie for all that you have done for Salisbury!!
These results are 100% proof that America is breeding stupid people! This is just awful Joe. -Allen
ReplyDeleteJoe
ReplyDeleteYou gave it your best shot as well as having the interest of the City of Salisbury at heart.
My advice now is to pack you bags, sell your assests in Salisbury and come home to Delaware.
Salisbury is a city in decline and that decline will continue on a steady pace. Many who recall the Salisbury of yester year morn the loss, but it shall not return.
Take care of you and your family it did more that most would have done.
Hunter
Thanks for fighting the good fight Joe but I was afraid this would happen.
ReplyDeleteI'm a worcester county voter but it's clear to see what's going on. This vote mirrors other "cities that bleed" and are poverty sticken and full of blight like Salisbury is.
What it amounts to is both uniformed voters and brainwashed liberal voters who can't see that liberism has turned cities into cess pools.
That's why the good employers who pay the higher wages have all left. The collective IQ of the residents doesn't give them much to choose from in the way of intelligence when doing hiring so they close up and consolidate where people are smarter.
Joe, the citizens of Salisbury are the real losers. They will soon see that Salisbury will be consumed by the crooks that use to be in there. They are all the same. I pray you do not go anywhere and that you expose EVERYTHING THEY DO!!! Otherwise they will get away with it all. The saddest thing is Laura Mitchell will be taking over and that is disgusting.
ReplyDeletenow with ireton salisbury will be having more crime, less jobe, more corruption, etc. I guess more people will be using the rt 50 bypass more just to avoid the town of salisbury I know I do. there must have been lots of payoffs and corruption for ireton to win.
ReplyDeleteThough I voted for Joe, I am more upset by the loss of Debbie Campbell. All her hard work overseeing the budget and making sure that everything brought before the Council is best for the city and the taxpayers is now gone. The Mayor must be thrilled as he will now be able to push anything he wants past the Council at the expense of the taxpayers and those who love Salisbury.
ReplyDeleteSounds like Salisbury is swirling the big sewer!!
ReplyDeleteGlad I don't live in the tax'em state of Maryland!
Mr. Albero, Ms. Polk, & Ms. Campbell gave it a good run. Thank you for your efforts for the city of Salisbury.
The people want more Section 8, which means not much in tax revenue there, so every working resident of Salisbury will have the privilege of picking up the tab for the slackers. Good luck!!
You people did not go out to vote. Don't complain when our city falls apart and it will.
ReplyDeleteThe real loser is the Salisbury community.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your efforts Joe!
Glad I left Salisbury when I had the chance. I still have some rentals there that I would love to sell (but I can't) and I believed Joe had the plan to bring back the city; lets hope Jim takes some of Joe's good ideas and runs with them.
ReplyDeleteMr. Albero, I truly believe you may have won or made a greater statement by not supporting Mrs. Campbell. Many voting for you but not Mrs. Campbell. She in fact was your weakest link.
ReplyDelete2800 VOTERS? Or 2000 stuffed ballots?
ReplyDelete7:24 AM - Ireton has no original ideas of his own so he has no choice but to use either Joe's or someone elses ideas and go with them, let's all just hope they are Joe's. Salisbury is the great big loser in all of this.
ReplyDeletewell there is some voter fraud going on here... How can you have over 1700 people show up and vote for Campbell yet she only got 600 votes?
ReplyDeleteHow sad in a City the size of Salisbury with the problems that exsist that mayorial election would draw less than 3000 votes. And for those of you on the west side don't you dare bitch and complain 400 votes you have got to be kidding.
ReplyDelete8:02 Many people are saying the reverse -- that Campbell got trounced because she's tied up with Joe. Who knows the real reason...I'm sure the tens of thousands in PAC money that went to Jake Day didn't help.
ReplyDeleteBefore Day entered the picture I knew I would not be voting for Campbell based on my observations of her performance on the Council.
ReplyDeleteI said a long time ago in Maryland the liberals outnumber the conservatives 2 to 1 and this proves it!
ReplyDeleteWhen an election is corrupt, this is what you get! I am just sorry for me. I bought a home in this city and now cannot sell it because of the corruption. Slumlords are all over this city and Ireton, Day, Shields and Mitchell fell right into their hands just as they planned. What a shame. Good old boy system at its finest!!!!

April 3, 2013 at 5:02 AM
He is not my president and Jim Ireton is not my mayor!
12:39 Hit the nail on the head. There seems to be a lot of liars in Salisbury. Either that or they are just spineless liberals that don't know how to speak their minds. Either way they will pay the price once their taxes go up.

April 2, 2013 at 11:33 PM
I don't think that is the case. I think the voters were misguided and uninformed. Campbell and the council majority did the right thing.
62.2% of Salisbury residents are renters. I am a registered republican and a renter in the city.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, it appears that around the same number of percentage of people voted for Ireton.
I hoped that fellow conservatives would have learned from the fall elections never to write any group off. I guess I was wrong.

ReplyDeleteNo excuses joe. Jake proved it could be done.
April 3, 2013 at 6:18 AM
Jake Day is a nobody and didn't prove anything The voters are obviously misguided and misinformed.
I hope they investigate JOHN ROBINSON he spent $5000 running ads against you! I thought you could only spend $250
ReplyDeleteliberal moron who spends most of his weekends in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware with his boy friend and gay friends. Jim Ireton the mayor represented him self as the spokesperson for Salisbury against the second amendment and gay marriage.

ReplyDeleteYou people did not go out to vote. Don't complain when our city falls apart and it will.
April 3, 2013 at 7:20 AM
When you have a city that is 95% rental property it is obvious the renters don't care who is in office. It is obvious that the renters don't care where they live or what the property looks like. If you drive through any neighborhood you will see overgrown bushes, cars parked in the front and back yards, multiple colored shingles, mold and mildew on the siding, broken windows, very little grass, no manicured lawns and trash in the yards and streets. Renters don't care about Salisbury and it is proven by Salisbury having the second highest crime rate in the state of Maryland. It is obvious that Salisbury is owned by slum lords. Now we will be back to that tired mantra from Bubba Comegys who said "groaf pays for groaf." To the few homeowners left in Salisbury you lose!
The people of salisbury should NOT have anything to complain about. You dumb azzezz have spoken.
ReplyDeleteJoe:
ReplyDeleteI wish I could have voted, but would not want to live in city limits! I am just dumbfounded that Ireton won! People just don't get it. Please keep up the good fight and representing the "right" thing to do! You give me hope.

April 3, 2013 at 8:02 AM
You are absolutely incorrect with this statement. Debbie Campbell has been the back bone of the city and the best overseer of our tax dollars. Debbie Campbell carried Jim Ireton in the last election and he turned his back on his good friend. Debbie Campbell and Joe Albero ran a campaign with class and facts and that is why they loss. The mentality of the voters in this city is that of WWE fans. They love mud slinging and lies and that is what Jim and Jake both did. Their mud slinging message was bought and paid for by slum lords and out of town developers. Jim Ireton is the worst mayor this city has ever had. He is worst than Barrie Tilghman ever was. At least Barrie didn't turn on her friends. She made it clear in the beginning who her enemies were and stuck to it. Jim Ireton is a fraud, a liar, and a fake. Hopefully this next 2 years and 7 months won't be painful.
I'm willing to bet there was an email sent out to all teachers. My family voted for you and Debbie. Keep up the great work you've been doing. You are an inspiration!

What's a matter you can't handle the facts? The truth is the truth and it was even admitted my Jim Ireton in the local news paper.
April 3, 2013 at 9:07 AM
ReplyDeleteYou are wrong. The number of rentals is more than 90% and I am sure you are one of the good renters.
When you live in subsidized housing, on welfare and food stamps, why would they vote to change that?
ReplyDelete9:46 got it right. When greedy rich and greedy poor combine forces, those who work for a living are collateral damage.
ReplyDeleteOh well Joe, you tried. That's more than most have done. Let's hope the people elected do the right thing. Congrats to them, now get to work.
ReplyDeleteHold your head up Joe. You may have lost, but you gave it a shot like you said you would.
FIX.FIX.FIX.....BY THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. THIS IS WHY IRETON/DAY WALKED AROUND SO SMUG, DONT YOU PEOPLE GET IT???
ReplyDeletemakes me want to vomit, and i don't even live in salisbury
ReplyDelete??? Will Jim shut down the 217 Abandoned homes and bulldoze them??? So the NEW Section 8 can go up???
ReplyDeleteI have a house to rent on Craigslist and this guy texted me" If you took Section 8 it would be rented" I stated "If the government gave me a years deposit i may consider it until then get a Fn JOB".
ReplyDeleteGlad that I am an ex-Salisburian living in sunny Florida. One would have thought that Peter Rabbit could win over Ireton but then again, being 900+ miles away, I do not see the big picture but if it had been my wife in Mojos when he (allegedly) pulled that stunt there would have been a problem. You gottem, you deserv'em
ReplyDeleteThe people of this city are either full of BS or hypocrites for what they did to joe so sit back now with popcorn "PEEPS" and enjoy what happens to Salisbury, Because now you get what you DESERVE.
ReplyDeleteThe real shame is that those who were re-elected will feel they got a vote of confidence for the way they've been doing their jobs. Unbelievable.
ReplyDelete10:52 Joe was encouraged by people who did not live in the city limits. He really should run for a county position.
ReplyDelete11:08 Great idea.
ReplyDelete9:18 am liberal moron who spends most of his weekends in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware with his boy friend and gay friends. Jim Ireton the mayor represented him self as the spokesperson for Salisbury against the second amendment and gay marriage.
ReplyDeleteGiving a forum to this kind of talk is the reason you lost.
That’s not the reason; simple fact is the first two statements are the truth. The obvious reason Joe lost is the apathy of the voters. Every home owner in this town should have come out and voted for Joe and Debbie. There are more than 800 home owners. With tax and spend Obama style crooks running this town you need look no further than the state of the nation on where this city is going.
When this country is broke and AAA ratings are lost WHAT are the Entitlement lovers going to do, I cant wait to see this "Nightmare on Liarton Street".
ReplyDeleteI am just sick to my stomach over the outcome. This election was bought by the local realtors, and the out-of-state realtors. The mob has taken over. Decent people know that Ireton, Day, and Shields were bought and paid for. To me they represent the seedy, trashy side of life.
ReplyDeleteThe wastewater plant and storm water issues will require a massive amount of cash wonder how that will be paid for if folks and businesses leave
ReplyDeletei believe the election is rigged. notice how shamie never loses
ReplyDelete"If you drive through any neighborhood you will see overgrown bushes, cars parked in the front and back yards, multiple colored shingles, mold and mildew on the siding, broken windows, very little grass, no manicured lawns and trash in the yards and streets. Renters don't care about Salisbury..."
ReplyDeleteNor do their slumlord property owners. I wonder how public works can let them get away with this outrage. Favoritism DOES exist in this town & I can prove it.
