Crews Extract Driver From Dangling Tractor Trailer

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Fire crews have saved a woman trapped inside the cab of a tractor trailer dangling off the side of the Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel Monday.

The Virginia Department of Transportation said all north and southbound lanes of Interstate 664 at the bridge-tunnel are closed.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police said the driver of the tractor trailer lost control and struck the bridge heading southbound just before 9 a.m. The cab caught fire and is currently hanging off the side of the bridge.
