The Red Cross and the Salvation Army are simply incredible organizations delivering food to those in need in Crisfield.
These Volunteers are working incredible hours tirelessly and unconditionally.
While residents are still trying to keep local government officials out of their homes, as well as FEMA, for fear they will condemn their only place to live and survive, the word on the street in Crisfield remains most of these residents are afraid they're going to get pushed out.
This is a serious problem Ladies & Gentlemen. Allow me to explain. Once they are removed, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out it will take many months, if not a year or even years before they can renovate, (if even possible in many cases).
So why is this so bad or dangerous. Because there are many elderly as well as children in these homes. If they keep their homes closed up, many will become very ill and even possibly die. It's a catch 22 right now. I'd say it's more like a lose/lose situation.
The answer needs to be, someone needs to figure out how these people can be relocated. They need transportation. The sooner enough volunteers help them get the carpeting and items that got wet out of their homes, the sooner they might be able to save their homes and not have to relocate before they become condemned.
Look, I've even heard the Red Cross is being encouraged to stop feeding every one sooner than later because people will becoming dependent on their generosity and they won't leave. Politics at its worst.
I will head down to Crisfield first thing in the morning again. Please join me. Please help these people in need.
STOP watching broadcasts like we saw on WBOC where they interviewed a very nice young white woman tonight where she was bubbly, smiling and thankful for all the help and generosity. THAT IS NOT WHAT I SAW IN CRISFIELD. How about they interview the MAJORITY of black citizens in Crisfield who lost everything and are afraid of being tossed out of their homes!
In closing, when the Daily Times called me today about the Jim Ireton case being dismissed, they asked why I wasn't in Court today. I replied, (and I hope they publish this) better I spend my time in Crisfield where they need help than sitting in a Court Room on a case with a childish Mayor who calls me a Delaware Blogger.
We'll see you in Crisfield tomorrow.
I almost forgot, the Red Cross disaster team came here all the way from Ocean City, Grand Rapids and another city all the way from Iowa.

Wicomico County Labor Force Continues to Decline
This morning, the US Labor Department released its latest job indicator data and according to the labor department - Wicomico County has 681 fewer people in the labor force as opposed to this time last year.
The latest trend shows a decline in the labor force from 53,821 in September 2011 to the present number of 53,140. Although the unemployment rate for Wicomico County shows a decline from 8.6% in September 2011 to its present rate of 7.8% as of September 2012 - the 'true' unemployment rate is masked by the number of claimants who have exhausted their benefits and fallen out of the system.
Bottom line - Wicomico County's local economy continues to sag as the latest workforce numbers indicate. Wicomico County is simply not producing enough jobs that are required to sustain population growth and/or high school and college graduation rates.

Hyundai Joins In With Special Offers For Hurricane Sandy Victims
|
More Incentives From Pohanka
I am awaiting more details from Pohanka but let me tell you what I know. ANY vehicle that has been totaled from Hurricane Sandy, each car manufacturer is offering special discounts on vehicles. Nissan, (for example) is offering factory employee pricing on vehicles.
Pohanka is willing to MATCH any of these incentives. They are getting special interest rates, discounts, the whole nine yards.
While some manufacturers are giving money to the Red Cross, (Mercedes gave $1,000,000.00, Toyota $1,000,000.00) Pohanka wants to keep their offers local. Therefore they are opening up their "Pay It Forward" program for this month and next month to those local victims on the Eastern Shore as well.
While I was in Crisfield, (as an example) yesterday, there were many cars totaled. Heck, one Police Officer had a brand new vehicle with temporary tags on it totaled. Pohanka is not trying to take advantage of new car or used car sales. They are truly doing everything in their power to help people get back on their feet and on the road again.
As soon as I get the details of who is offering what I will publish it here on Salisbury News. I have been told they will include used cars as well. So please spread the word to any victim you might know and get them to Pohanka.
You must have proof your vehicle was destroyed from this storm.

Pohanka To MATCH ANY Donation For Hurricane Sandy Victims
Ladies & Gentlemen, Pohanka Automotive will match ANY donation made to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.
If you are as fortunate as I am to know Sandy Fitzgerald Angelo, (Owner of Pohanka Automotive Group) you know this is one of the most giving people you'll ever meet. "Paying It Forward" is something the entire Eastern Shore should promote.
The Staff at Pohanka take their own personal time to Pay It Forward because they are simply good people.
If you have any donations, please drop them off at any of the several Pohanka Automotive Group locations on Rt. 13 North in Salisbury.
Pohanka is collecting donations of all kinds for delmarvas hurricane Sandy victims. Clothes, linens, toys, food and monetary donations.
Pohanka will MATCH any and all donations and distribute all that we collect and raise to the local victims of Huricane Sandy.

New Film Exposes Shocking Muslim Duplicity
Islamofascism: A new documentary exposes the Muslim Brotherhood as a "subversive menace" hiding in plain sight. Forget the Mideast; this group threatens us in our backyard.
In "The Grand Deception," producer and award-winning journalist Steve Emerson spends 70 minutes documenting how the radical Brotherhood's tentacles have reached deep inside the U.S. political system over the past few decades.
The footage Emerson obtained of these Islamists speaking candidly behind closed doors is stunning. They may mouth pleasantries to our face, but behind our backs they're plotting our destruction.
Black Pastors: Pro-Gay-Marriage Ad ‘Manipulating the Black Community’
A group of African-American pastors is slamming a political ad that urges Marylanders to vote for a ballot referendum that would legalize same-sex marriage, calling it an attempt “to re-educate the black community” on the issue.
“The Black church has been the conscience of not only the Black community but of the nation," the Rev. Williams Owens, founder and President of CAAP (Coalition of African-American Pastors), said Wednesday in a statement.
Football Flyover Banners: $16 Trillion National Debt 'No Bulls###!'
Sports fans in some important swing states this weekend will get a last-minute dose of politics with their football. Bankrupting America, a campaign project of the conservative group Public Notice, will be flying two banners over the fields at college and professional football games with messages about the national debt.
The banners, which were also flown last week over several football games and at the World Series, will be seen this Saturday at the following NCAA football games: the Missouri Tigers at the Florida Gators, the Stanford Cardinal at the Colorado Buffaloes, the Nebraska Cornhuskers at the Michigan State Spartans, and the Illinois Fighting Illini at the Ohio State Buckeyes.

WOMAN BLOCKED FROM VOTING OVER 'BIBLE' T-SHIRT
CBN: A woman was blocked from early voting near Austin, Texas, last week after wearing a T-shirt that said "Vote the Bible." A pro-family group called Texas Values said election workers told resisdent Kay Hill at the Taylor City Hall polling place in Williamson County her shirt was quote "offensive." She was told to turn the shirt inside out, go home and change, or cover up the words "Vote the Bible." Hill tried to disagree but was eventually forced to cover up her Bible message. Poll workers reportedly provided a jacket for her to wear over the shirt.

‘VOTE HERE’: MILITARY TRUCKS TO SERVE AS POLLING PLACES ON ELECTION DAY IN NEW JERSEY
New Jersey will deploy military trucks to serve as polling places on Election Day in storm-battered communities, the New Jersey secretary of the state announced Thursday during a visit to this flood-ravaged town. The state is also extending the deadline on mail-in ballots.
Department of Defense trucks will be parked at regular polling places that have lost power, as long as the sites are still accessible. Paper ballots will be used.
Republican Secretary of State and Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno said voters will find “a DOD truck with a well-situated National Guardsman and a big sign saying, “Vote Here.”
Amended Complaint Filed In Lawsuit Against Berlin
BERLIN -- A long-time Berlin fire department supervisor accused of workplace harassment and discrimination filed an amended complaint against the town yesterday in Worcester County Circuit Court.
In May, the town terminated EMS supervisor Norris Phillip Donohue, Jr. after 23 years on the job after at least two EMS employees filed formal complaints about alleged workplace harassment and discrimination. The allegations of harassment and discrimination in the EMS department of the Berlin Fire Company (BFC) were cited as primary reasons for the town’s decision in August to pull all funding for the entire fire company. However, the BFC alleges the town’s decision to defund it was based on control of the scheduling and operations.
In July, Donohue filed a civil suit against the Mayor and Council, seeking at least $200,000 and alleging the elected officials, through Town Administrator Tony Carson, did not have the authority to terminate, or even discipline, him over allegations of harassment and discrimination. He said that authority wrested with his immediate supervisors, the fire chief and the fire company president.

BLOOMBERG DIVERTS FOOD, GENERATORS FROM DEVASTATED STATEN ISLAND TO NYC MARATHON
Fresh off his "climate disruption"-driven endorsement of President Obama, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has chosen to divert critical food supplies and power generators from desperate residents of Staten Island to Sunday's New York City Marathon. Gothamist reports:
[T]hose urging the city to halt the run believe that the thousands of Marathon volunteers could direct their efforts towards post-Sandy relief and cleanup, "and they also argue that the event will divert thousands of police from important hurricane-related duties." But despite petitions circulating, work started up again yesterday on the Marathon route.A tipster, who wishes to remain anonymous, told us there were lots of workers in and out of the park today, who had "started before the storm and then came back starting yesterday." Trailers are lined up from around 71st to 66th Streets on Central Park West, a food truck was set up today, and "generators have been sitting there at least a week." The tents that were taken down prior to the storm have also been set back up, and there is a stage set up near 73rd Street.

3 of 9 Justices Will Turn 80 by 2016 Election
Three of the nine justices on a U.S. Supreme Court that has decided many significant issues by 5-4 votes over the past decade will turn 80 years of age before the 2016 presidential election.
The three justices are Antonin Scalia, an anchor of the court’s conservative wing, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, an anchor of the court’s liberal wing, and Anthony Kennedy, who is often the decisive swing vote in 5-4 opinions.

Linthicum Storm Victims: 'We Were Inches From Death'
Paul Marshall grows sick thinking of the possibilities.
He could have slept late that morning with his wife.
His 6-year-old daughter, Emma, could have climbed into his bed to snuggle. His youngest daughter, Tegan, could have been in the bedroom, trying on her Dorothy costume for Halloween.
Any one of them could have been killed when the bomb went off.
That's what Paul says it sounded like when an 80-year-old oak tree crashed through his Linthicum home Monday morning. It crushed the bed where Paul and his wife, Kristen, sleep.

Waterman’s Not A Complete Rebuild After Fire
WEST OCEAN CITY -- Less than a month after a devastating fire at the popular West Ocean City restaurant, the future of the Waterman’s Seafood Company looks bright, as it now appears the main structure will be salvaged and not entirely demolished as feared in the wake of the blaze.
The fire was reported around 6:45 p.m. on Oct. 5 and first arriving units from the Ocean City Fire Company reported fire extending from the roof area of the two-and-a-half story landmark restaurant on Route 50 in West Ocean City. The restaurant was open and crowded at the height of the dinner rush on a busy Friday evening, but the evacuation was orderly and no injuries were reported.
The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office conducted an investigation and determined the fire originated in a second-floor attic area and was caused by a faulty electrical circuit. In the days following the fire, the historic building appeared to be large intact with very little damage on the front of the establishment, but the scars of the blaze are can clearly be observed on the roof and rear areas upon closer inspection. At first, there was concern the entire restaurant would have to be demolished, but those fears have been allayed after a thorough inspection and renovation plan.

Salisbury Home Depot Arrives In Crisfield
Our friends from Home Depot heard the needs of those in Crisfield yesterday and delivered bottled water for starters. They are down there today assessing the needs and are committed to Paying It Forward as they usually so quietly do in these situations. One representative told me, "It's a mess down there".
Blame Cast on Conowingo Dam
CONOWINGO, Md. - Millions of gallons of storm water from Sandy have been unleashed from the Conowingo Dam, and the last time it gushed through the gates at these levels, it wiped out crab, striped bass and half of commercial waterman Don Pierce’s business.
"If this happens again, I'm going to be out of business. My grandchildren... my children… everybody's going to be affected... my employees," said Pierce.
Citing a federal study by the U.S. Geological Survey, some local and state leaders are pointing to the glut of pollution that comes from major storms---sediment, phosphorous and nitrogen, as the primary culprit that’s slowly destroying the Chesapeake Bay.

Charitable Contractors Overhaul Diakonia’s Kitchen
OCEAN CITY -- Trying to feed the hungry can be difficult with an old kitchen, which is why Contractors For A Cause (CFAC) stepped up this fall to re-build the aged kitchen at Diakonia.
“It just goes to show the goodness of the community,” said Diakonia Executive Director Claudia Nagle.
CFAC are well established in Delaware but branched out into Maryland recently. The group quickly expressed an interest in working with Diakonia, which serves as a non-profit food pantry and transitional living area. CFAC followed up on that interest by proposing a three-phase construction project at the West Ocean City Diakonia location. A re-furbished kitchen was Phase 1 of that plan and Nagle didn’t mince words when describing the work CFAC did.
“It’s beautiful,” she said of the new kitchen, which features an extra door into the food pantry and a lot of stainless steel.

Secret Service Agent Assigned to Obama Kills Self Amid Affair Probe
A senior Secret Service agent who was being investigated by the government for failing to disclose a long-standing relationship with a foreign citizen killed himself last week in Washington, people familiar with the matter told The Associated Press
Rafael Prieto, a married father assigned to the security detail for President Barack Obama, had acknowledged to U.S. investigators that he had been having an affair for years with a woman from Mexico, these people said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss Prieto's death or the investigation
Prieto's relationship was revealed to Secret Service investigators by an agent who had been entangled in the Colombian prostitution scandal earlier this year, these people say. That agent was concerned that the Secret Service wasn't enforcing its rules consistently.

Imagine this...you work monday through friday (shift work, same schedule every week. You work for a fortune 500 company whose CEO made over 8mm in just bonus last year. Your workplace location is hit with devastating effects of a hurricane, wind and flooding. Your workplace loses power and shuts down on the day of the hurricane event. The workplace stays shut down for production for 3 days. No problem you think, employee handbook says in the case of natural desasters you will be paid for up to 3 days. Thank god because my home is under water, I have had no power at home for the past 5 days, most of my belongings including my vehicle are now ruined by the damages caused by hurricane......and then the company renegs on the 3 days pay provided by the handbook claiming the days shut down were "unscheduled" work days. Now I have no place to stay at the moment, no car, no heat, no water, kids are hungry tired and cold, hole in roof, most of our possessions are ruined AND......Sherwin Williams will not honor the benefits promised to me in writing when I took the job with a highly respected Fortune 500 company. Big Democratic Guns Tell Seniors Anti-Casino Ads Are Misleading
In the battle for expanded casino gambling, they brought out the big political guns Thursday to persuade hundreds of residents of the large Leisure World retirement community in Montgomery County that ads against Question 7 ads are misleading and dishonest. Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett and Sen. Wicomico County Health Department and Maryland Department of the Environment Investigating Groundwater Contamination
The Wicomico County Health Department is currently working with the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) to investigate the presence of trichloroethene (TCE) detected in local groundwater. TCE is a chlorinated hydrocarbon commonly used as an industrial solvent. It is a clear nonflammable liquid with a sweet smell.
This chemical has been detected in some private wells in the Morris Mill Road area. The affected area also consists of the Morris Mill subdivision, the Coulbourne Woods Subdivision and portions of Anthony Lane.
The Health Department has collected water samples from 44 private wells and is partnering with MDE to collect additional samples. Residences most affected have been individually notified and are being provided with a supply of bottled water until a long term solution is identified.
The Health Department and MDE will hold a public meeting to share mitigation plans and address the residents’ concerns on Thursday, November 8th at 6pm at the Parkside Highschool. Residents are encouraged to contact the Wicomico County Health Department at 410-546-4446 if they have additional questions.

Crisfield Clean Up Effort- Things Needed
The Crisfield Clean Up effort has these needs, if anyone can help us meet them:
1. A Verizon wi-fi hotspot. We need to have internet access and it is limited at City Hall. If anyone could get a Verizon dealer to donate a wi-fi hotspot for the month of November, it would be a great help.
2. Computer savvy volunteers to help log our volunteer hours - We expect hundreds of volunteers in Crisfield tomorrow and, to get credit with FEMA, we need to log their names and hours. We need about 4 more people who know how to use Microsoft Excel (basic data entry) at 7 a.m. and at 10 a.m. If you can bring a laptop with excel, that is great, but not necessary.
You can call John Phoebus at 410-430-6201.

Harford Co. Woman Discusses Her Ordeal With Fungal Meningitis Linked To Tainted Steroid Injection
The nationwide menigitis outbreak linked to one Massachusetts pharmacy is quietly growing even more deadly. Four more people have died in the last week and 50 new cases have been reported.
As more people die from getting tainted steroid shots, a Maryland woman reveals her panic when she kept getting sicker and no one knew why. She tells Mary Bubala she went in for a shot and walked out with meningitis.
A simple step to relieve back pain– a steroid shot—became a death sentence for two dozen people across the nation as hundreds of others found out fungal meningitis is making them sick, including 34-year-old Patricia Pugh of Harford County.
