Seattle Makes It Illegal For Businesses To Tell Breastfeeding Moms To Cover Up Or Move

While many states, including Washington, have laws that allow for breastfeeding moms to nurse in public without being hassled, some of those regulations are not clear on whether or not this protection extends to places like restaurant interiors or even offices. Thus, Seattle has made its stance clear: It is illegal for a business to ask a nursing mom to cover up or move elsewhere.

'Miracle' Baby Found Alive in Morgue is Improving

A baby found alive in a coffin in an Argentine morgue nearly 12 hours after the girl had been declared dead is improving, but questions remain for the hospital responsible for the near-fatal mistake.

The mother, Analia Bouter, says she fell to her knees in shock after finding her baby alive in a coffin.

Bouter named her newborn Luz Milagros, or "Miracle Light." The tiny girl, born three months premature, was in critical but improving condition Wednesday in the same hospital where the staff pronounced her stillborn on April 3.

The case became public Tuesday when Rafael Sabatinelli, the deputy health minister in the northern province of Chaco, announced in a news conference that five medical professionals involved have been suspended pending an official investigation.

Driving With Pets Is Still Legal, But Is It Safe?

WASHINGTON - The image of a dog hanging its head out of a moving car is as American as apple pie, but some states are reconsidering animal safety and banning pets from riding unrestrained.

Rhode Island and Tennessee have both proposed such initiatives, and Maryland appeared to be on board. Delegate James Malone was behind the effort until the State Senate killed the bill, reported the Baltimore Sun.

So while it remains legal to drive with critters in tow, AAA still warns that drivers should be extra careful when bringing their pets along for a ride.

A 2010 survey showed 31 percent of people behind the wheel admitted that having an animal loose in the car was a distraction. Five percent admitted to playing with pets while driving.

Ann Romney Defends Husband on Women, Says Democratic Attack 'Bothers' her

Ann Romney, wife of presumptive GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, responded Thursday to remarks by Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen that she “never worked a day in her life."

Romney, who has raised five children, said on Fox News Channel that her career choice was to be a mother and that Rosen should have been in her house when "those boys caused so much trouble."

However, she struck a far more serious tone when asked about Rosen's comment about her husband not understanding women and their needs.

"Now that bothers me," Romney said, pointing out her husband has surrounded himself with top female advisers at least since his days as Massachusetts governor.

"Hilary needs to know this," she also said. Women on the campaign trail are "talking about jobs and the legacy of debt they're leaving their children."

Spring Chill Hits Democratic Leaders Over Budget

The body language seemed to convey the lingering hostility. Senate President Mike Miller and House Speaker Michael Busch stood stiffly behind their chairs, waiting for Gov. Martin O’Malley to arrive at Tuesday’s bill signing. The usual celebratory atmosphere after the 90-day session was muted by the failure to enact the tax hikes the night before, forcing the implementation of a budget with another $500 million in budget cuts.

Luggage Tags ID Suspect in Ohio Puppy Abandonment

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio man accused of zipping six bulldog-mix puppies into a suitcase and leaving it next to a trash bin might have gotten away with it if he had remembered to remove the luggage tag bearing his contact information, authorities said Wednesday.

A Toledo Area Humane Society officer filed two misdemeanor charges of abandoning animals against Howard Davis, 53, of Toledo, this week, according to court records. Davis was not arrested, and he could not be found for comment Wednesday.

"It's unfortunate he chose to abandon the dogs," said John Dinon, the Humane Society's executive director. "If he had just called us and said he couldn't care for them, we would have taken them and he wouldn't have been charged with a crime."

Still the Least Racist Country in the World

In light of the tragic killing of black teenager Trayvon Martin — and the manufactured hysteria surrounding it — one thing needs to be stated as clearly and as often as possible: The United States is the least racist and least xenophobic country in the world. Foreigners of every race, ethnicity, and religion know this. Most Americans suspect this. Most black Americans and the entire Left deny this.

Black Africans know this. That is why so many seek to live in the United States. Decades ago, the number of black Africans who had immigrated to the United States had already surpassed the number of black Africans who were forcibly shipped to America as slaves.

Members of other races and nationalities know this. Even Muslim and Arab writers have noted that nowhere in the Arab or larger Muslim world does an Arab or any other Muslim have the individual rights, liberty, and dignity that a Muslim living in America has. As for Latinos and Asians, vast numbers of them from El Salvador to Korea regard America as the land of opportunity.

Just remember these three numbers: 145 degrees F for whole meats, 160 for ground meats and 165 for all poultry.

Pro-Palestinian 'Eviction' Notices at Florida College Blasted by Jewish Group

Congress Flooded with Calls to Probe Obama

Sheriff Joe Arpaio says he’s talked to members of his state’s congressional delegation about his Cold Case Posse investigation that suggests there was fraud in the creation of Barack Obama’s birth documentation that was released by the White House in 2011.

The investigation also concluded that Obama’s Selective Service registration is the same – a forgery, leading to the obvious question of what happens if Obama legally cannot be president.

But he’s seen no results.

Now, tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of people are going to see whether Congress ignores their concerns, too.

ASJA DEFENDS THE RIGHT TO FOCUS ON THE POLICE

Camera shy?

The police?

The American Society of Journalists and Authors–the professional association of independent nonfiction writers–protests the abuse by Philadelphia police of a journalism student who was simply trying to photograph them on a public street.

Ian Van Kuyk, a journalism student at Temple University, believed he was exercising his First Amendment rights of free speech and free press when he took pictures of police officers who were engaged in a routine traffic stop on a public street. When the officers asked him to stop, he tried to explain that he was within the law to take their photographs on a public street. They disagreed, arrested him and charged him with obstruction, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Van Kuyk claims that he was pushed, shoved and thrown to the ground before being handcuffed. His girlfriend was present, and when she tried to rescue his camera, she too was charged with obstruction and disorderly conduct. At last report, Van Kuyk’s court date was set for April 16th.

A number of prior cases in other venues have upheld the right of a citizen to photograph an event that is occurring in a public place. “With the explosion of cell phone cameras and videos, combined with social media, an army of citizen journalists has emerged in the past few years,” writes Larry Atkins, a member of ASJA’s First Amendment Committee, in an op-ed piece in Philadelphia. Atkins, a lawyer who also teaches journalism at Temple University and Arcadia University, hopes that this will be “a teachable moment” for all sides -- the police, students and journalists.

As Claire Safran, chair of ASJA’s First Amendment Committee, notes, “The Constitution guarantees the fundamental right to report, in words or in pictures, on events taking place in public.”

Rush: Obama Intentionally Stoking Racial Chaos

Radio host Rush Limbaugh says President Obama and officials in his administration are intentionally stoking racial chaos in America in connection with the Trayvon Martin case.

Limbaugh said the situation is “a powder keg waiting to go off,” and that “nobody that I see is doing anything to try to make sure that powder keg doesn’t explode.”

Wonder What Obama Thinks About Black Panthers?

Ever wonder what Barack Obama and his Justice Department think of the New Black Panthers? You know, those folks who put a bounty on the “dead or alive” head of George Zimmerman, whose involvement in the shooting of Trayvon Martin has prompted calls for his prosecution.

It appears an answer is not forthcoming, after White House press secretary Jay Carney today declined to even allow the question to be asked.

It happened when Les Kinsolving, WND’s correspondent at the White House, attended the briefing and was prepared to ask two questions.

He wanted to know, “Does the president believe it is legal for the New Black Panthers to offer $10,000 ‘dead or alive’ for George Zimmerman, who they called a ‘child killer’ and warned Zimmerman ‘should be fearful for his life.’”

US Posts Biggest March Budget Deficit In History

Following the all time record high February budget deficit of $232 billion, [5]the US March budget deficit number is in, and in addition to being bigger than expected, coming at $198.2 billion on expectations of "only" $196 billion, the government outlay in the past month also is the largest March deficit on record. This brings the total deficit in fiscal 2012 to $779 billion, which is to be expected for a country gripped in total political chaos and which is unable to either raise revenues or lower spending. What is more disturbing is that over the same period (Oct 1 2011 - March 31, 2012), the US government issued $792 billion in debt, a trend that will continue. What is most disturbing is that the comparable tax revenues net of refunds, "matching" this increase in deficit and spending, are only $693 billion, in other words the US government is funding well more than half of its cash needs with debt rather than with tax revenue. Just like Japan.

Ala. Judge Orders Man to Jail for Sagging Pants

Twenty-year-old LaMarcus D. Ramsey was in Autauga County Circuit Court on Tuesday to enter a plea on a charge of receiving stolen property.

Circuit Judge John Bush told Ramsey his blue jeans were sagging too low and gave him the three-day stint. The judge told Ramsey to buy pants that fit or a belt when he gets out of the county jail.

The judge says he finds it disrespectful and a disruption when people wear pants below their waistline in his chambers.

George Zimmerman Makes Brief Court Appearance

Neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, who is facing second-degree murder charges in the death of an unarmed black teen, appeared Thursday in front of a Florida judge where he was told that his formal arraignment will take place on May 29.

Zimmerman, wearing a dark grey sweatshirt, was at the brief procedural appearance with his attorney Mark O'Mara and said "Yes, sir" when asked by the judge if O'Mara is his lawyer.

Florida special prosecutor announced Wednesday that she concluded that claims of self defense were not supported in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Special prosecutor Angela Corey's announcement marked a turning point in the high-profile case, as weeks of outrage and speculation about Zimmerman's motives culminated in his arrest -- something that Martin's family and their supporters have argued for since the Feb. 26 shooting in a gated community in Sanford, Fla.

Maryland Business For Responsive Government: Governor, Legislature Failed To Lead

Towson, MD - In the wake of the chaotic ending to the General Assembly session, Maryland Business for Responsive Government characterized the sloppy budgeting process - the primary duty of the Governor and the legislature under the state constitution - as a failure in leadership. And the business advocacy organization also noted that the likelihood of a special session only gives legislators and the Administration more time to argue about the details of a number of tax increases including those on gas, sales and income.

"It is an outrage that neither the legislature nor the Governor bothered to lead the state forward. " said MBRG President Kimberly M. Burns. "This session will be remembered by finger-pointing, dysfunction and chaos, and forgotten in this mess is any plan to help Maryland's working families and small businesses."

The state has been running $1 billion - plus structural deficits in recent years that have required either spending reductions or raising revenues, with the latter being the preferred option among the state's top elected officials. As a result of failing to reach a consensus on the budget measure, a so-called "doomsday budget," intended to give political cover for lawmakers to support more taxes, has been enacted by default.

"Ironically, the Governor and legislature could have called the doomsday budget a 'new day' budget, declared victory and gone home," said Burns. "But it was never intended to be taken seriously, and there will now be a mad scramble to continue government spending at record levels as a special session looms on the horizon."

The doomsday budget, which would slow government spending by over $500 million, goes against the philosophical underpinnings of the Administration and General Assembly leadership, hence the speculation on a special session. MBRG has repeatedly called for a bipartisan approach to scouring the budget line-by-line to identify spending reductions with which to address Maryland's structural budget deficits.

Beware The Establishment's Third Party Trap

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." – Albert Einstein

Recently, Justin Raimondo wrote a thoughtful editorial, "Ron, Don't Let Your Heroic Effort End In Tampa."

I agree with Justin about how the GOP is actually a greater threat to our remaining liberties, wealth and the continuance of perpetual war than even the socialist Democrats.

I also think he is right about Paul's young supporter demographics; the fact this is the least likely group to vote in the conservative Republican primaries indicates his overall political support is substantially greater than the smaller vote totals might indicate in the closed primary process. He also asks Ron Paul where the movement he inspired and created should go following the GOP Tampa convention, ending on August 30th.

Justin and many of my libertarian and freedom movement friends sincerely believe that Ron Paul should go the third-party route following the convention but I have come to a totally different conclusion, although I highly respect their opinions, views and intellect.

Library of Congress Staffer Fired, Claims Anti-Gay Bias

“It is my pleasure to recognize Mrs. Cascio for her dedicated service to the Ocean City Police Department and the Ocean City community,” Chief DiPino said. “The OCPD would like to take this opportunity to not only recognize but to sincerely thank Mrs. Cascio for her diligence, dedication and outstanding service to the residents and visitors of OceanCity.”

NJ Flood Victims Ask: Where Did Those Millions In Federal Aid Go?

Giselle and Zenayda Sedano of Cranford, N.J., never had a chance of keeping the rampaging waters of the Rahway River out of their home when Hurricane Irene roared through northern New Jersey in August. Now they are wondering if they ever had a chance to get any of the $21 million that the Federal Emergency Management Agency sent to help New Jersey’s flood victims.

We first met the Sedano sisters a day after the hurricane hit on Aug. 28, causing the Rahway River to breach containment and wreak havoc in their suburb of Cranford, where about one in five homes were damaged. They were picking through all of their worldly belongings and looking for something, anything, that wasn’t completely waterlogged.

2012 Legislative Session Wrap-Up

This Session was unlike any other. From the beginning of January the O'Malley-Brown Administration seemed to have rolled out a new tax every week, they challenged traditional marriage, passed untested and expensive energy initiatives, took planning authority away from the Counties, attempted to shift unfunded pensions onto local government and increased spending by over $1 Billion. As with all things, it is not all bad news. The House of Delegates successfully stopped the increase in hunting fees, celebrated the success of Kevin Plank, owner of Under Armour, brought more accountability to Baltimore County's Revenue Authority, and we got closer than ever to passing a hybrid Baltimore County School Board.

35 Shocking Statistics That Prove That Things Have Gotten Worse In America

Most Americans know that things used to be much better in the United States, but they don’t have the facts and the figures to back that belief up. Well, after reading the shocking statistics in this article nobody should be left with any doubt that things have gotten worse in America. There are less jobs, incomes are down, home values have plummeted, poverty is up, consumer debt is way up, dependence of the government has skyrocketed and government debt is totally out of control. Sadly, it hasn’t really mattered which political party has had control over the White House. Things have gotten worse under Obama, they got worse under Bush, and they got worse under Clinton.

We are in the midst of a horrific long-term economic decline and the American people desperately need to wake up.

The following are 35 shocking statistics that prove that things have gotten worse in America….

#1 Median household income in the United States is down 7.8 percent since December 2007 after adjusting for inflation.

#2 There are 5.6 million less jobs than there were when the last recession began back in late 2007.

#3 The U.S. government says that the number of Americans “not in the labor force” rose by 17.9 million between 2000 and 2011. During the entire decade of the 1980s, the number of Americans “not in the labor force” rose by only 1.7 million.

#4 In 2007, the unemployment rate for the 20 to 29 age bracket was about 6.5 percent. Today, the unemployment rate for that same age group is about 13 percent.

#5 In 2007, 73.2 percent of all young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 that were not enrolled in school had jobs. Today, that number has declined to 65 percent.

#6 Back in the year 2000, more than 50 percent of all Americans teens had a job. This past summer, only 29.6% of all American teens had a job.

#7 When Barack Obama entered the White House, the number of “long-term unemployed workers” in the United States was approximately 2.6 million. Today, that number is sitting at 5.6 million.

#8 The average duration of unemployment in the United States is nearly three times as long as it was back in the year 2000.

#9 Back in 1950, more than 80 percent of all men in the United States had jobs. Today, less than 65 percent of all men in the United States have jobs.

#10 According to the Obama administration, about 20 percent of all jobs in the United States were manufacturing jobs back in the year 2000. Today, about 5 percent of all jobs in the United States are manufacturing jobs.

#11 Sadly, more than 56,000 manufacturing facilities in the United States have been shut down since 2001.

#29 Medicare spending increased by 138 percent between 1999 and 2010.

#30 Back in 1990, the federal government accounted for 32 percent of all health care spending in America. Today, that figure is up to 45 percent and it is projected to surpass 50 percent very shortly.

#31 Back in 1965, only one out of every 50 Americans was on Medicaid. Today, one out of every 6 Americans is on Medicaid, and things are about to get a whole lot worse. It is being projected that Obamacare will add 16 million more Americans to the Medicaid rolls.

#32 Right now, spending by the federal government accounts for about 24 percent of GDP. Back in 2001, it accounted for just 18 percent.

#33 In 2004, the U.S. government had a budget deficit of a little over 412 billion dollars. This year, the U.S. government will run a budget deficit of over 1.3 trillion dollars.

#35 The U.S. national debt is now more than 22 times larger than it was when Jimmy Carter became president.

Warm, Dry Winter Bringing Chesapeake To Life Early

Crabs are crawling early out of the mud in the southern end of the Chesapeake Bay, and that’s only the beginning of changes expected from the warm, dry winter in the nation’s largest estuary.

“All the animals, whether they be fish or crabs, are going to be doing things a little differently. It’s going to be really interesting,” said Lynn Fegley, deputy director of fisheries at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

The crabs are stirring early in Virginia, rockfish could spawn sooner and algae blooms could be worse than usual because of an extremely mild winter that kept water temperatures above average, scientists and watermen say. Bird watchers, meanwhile, can look forward to earlier arrivals, with many birds arriving one to three weeks early, according to the American Bird Conservancy.

QUOTES OF THE DAY 4-12-12

Old forms of government finally grow so oppressive that they must be thrown off even at the risk of reigns of terror. Herbert Spencer

Society exists for the benefit of its members, not the members for the benefit of society. Herbert Spencer

The wise man must remember that while he is a descendant of the past, he is a parent of the future. Herbert Spencer

We cannot but be astonished at the ease with which men resign themselves to ignorance about what is most important for them to know; and we may be certain that they are determined to remain invincibly ignorant if they once come to consider it as axiomatic that there are no absolute principles. Frederic Bastiat

Sometimes the law defends plunder and participates in it. Sometimes the law places the whole apparatus of judges, police, prisons and gendarmes at the service of the plunderers, and treats the victim – when he defends himself – as a criminal. Frederic Bastiat

When goods do not cross borders, soldiers will. Frederic Bastiat

Often the masses are plundered and do not know it. Frederic Bastiat

All wars come to an end, at least temporarily. But the authority acquired by the state hangs on; political power never abdicates. Frank Chodorov

The State acquires power… and because of its insatiable lust for power it is incapable of giving up any of it. The State never abdicates. Frank Chodorov

When people say ‘let’s do something about it,’ they mean ‘let’s get hold of the political machinery so that we can do something to somebody else.’ And that somebody is invariably you. Frank Chodorov

The principle that the majority have a right to rule the minority, practically resolves all government into a mere contest between two bodies of men, as to which of them shall be masters, and which of them slaves; a contest, that — however bloody — can, in the nature of things, never be finally closed, so long as man refuses to be a slave. Lysander Spooner

And the so-called sovereigns, in these different governments, are simply the heads, or chiefs, of different bands of robbers and murderers. Lysander Spooner

A government that can at pleasure accuse, shoot, and hang men, as traitors, for the one general offence of refusing to surrender themselves and their property unreservedly to its arbitrary will, can practice any and all special and particular oppressions it pleases. The result — and a natural one — has been that we have had governments, State and national, devoted to nearly every grade and species of crime that governments have ever practised upon their victims; and these crimes have culminated in a war that has cost a million of lives; a war carried on, upon one side, for chattel slavery, and on the other for political slavery; upon neither for liberty, justice, or truth. And these crimes have been committed, and this war waged, by men, and the descendants of men, who, less than a hundred years ago, said that all men were equal, and could owe neither service to individuals, nor allegiance to governments, except with their own consent. Lysander Spooner

A man is none the less a slave because he is allowed to choose a new master once in a term of years. Lysander Spooner

No attempt or pretence, that was ever carried into practical operation amongst civilized men — unless possibly the pretence of a “Divine Right,” on the part of some, to govern and enslave others — embodied so much of shameless absurdity, falsehood, impudence, robbery, usurpation, tyranny, and villany of every kind, as the attempt or pretence of establishing a government by consent, and getting the actual consent of only so many as may be necessary to keep the rest in subjection by force. Such a government is a mere conspiracy of the strong against the weak. It no more rests on consent than does the worst government on earth. Lysander Spooner

Our constitutions purport to be established by ‘the people,’ and, in theory, ‘all the people’ consent to such government as the constitutions authorize. But this consent of ‘the people’ exists only in theory. It has no existence in fact. Government is in reality established by the few; and these few assume the consent of all the rest, without any such consent being actually given. Lysander Spooner

Valerie Jarrett planted By Communist Sympathizer?

VaFamily worked closely with Obama mentor Frank Marshall Davis

Was Valerie Jarrett, one of President Obama’s closest advisers, introduced to the president’s political circles by her father-in-law, a communist sympathizer who worked with the radical Obama mentor Frank Marshall Davis?

Jarrett’s family background and her initial introduction to Obama may tie her to onetime Obama environmental adviser Van Jones’ radical ideology.

Jarrett’s father-in-law, Vernon Jarrett, was an associate of Frank Marshall Davis, the controversial labor movement activist who has been identified as an early influence on Obama.

Vernon Jarrett and Davis worked together in 1940 in a Communist Party-dominated organization, the Citizen’s Committee to Aid Packing House Workers. The group’s own correspondence, previously uncovered by the New Zeal blog, describes its communist influence. Many of its leaders were tied to the Communist Party.

DelDOT Saves Taxpayers $32 Million

DelDOT Saves Taxpayers $32 Million as a Result of Successful Bond Refinancing and Budgeting Strategy

Dover
-- The Department of Transportation was able to achieve a savings to taxpayers of nearly $32 million over 12 years, as result of last week's successful refinancing of maturing debt through a competitive bond sale, agency Secretary Shailen Bhatt announced today.

The competitive bond auction was held Thursday, April 4, after DelDOT's excellent credit ratings were reaffirmed by both Standard & Poor's and Moody's. S&P's rating of AA+ and Moody's rating of Aa2 of DelDOT's bonds are consistent with last year's ratings and are considered exceptional for a state transportation agency.

The rating agencies both gave DelDOT an outlook of "stable" based on its disciplined pay-as-you-go approach to capital spending and a new long-term debt reduction strategy. They noted the ratings were achieved against a backdrop of rising fuel prices which can negatively affect both gasoline tax receipts and toll revenues.

"As a result of the successful refinancing, we will achieve a debt service savings based on cash flow (2013-2024) of nearly $32 million over 12 years," Secretary Bhatt said. "Our debt service for FY13 was originally expected to be $124.8 million. We now anticipate this amount will be reduced by approximately $7 million. This reduction will allow DelDOT greater flexibility as we continue to reduce our debt service, while maintaining a robust capital program."

Trayvon Martin's Mom Says She Thinks His Killing Was An 'Accident'

I believe it was an accident, I believe that it just got out of control and he couldn’t turn the clock back," she said. "I would ask him, 'Did he know that that was a minor, that that was a teenager and that he did not have a weapon?'” she added.

Weiner: Steroids Shouldn't Keep Players From Hall

WASHINGTON - The head of the Major League baseball players' union thinks steroid use shouldn't keep a player out of the Hall of Fame.

Michael Weiner told the National Press Club on Wednesday he thinks the Hall of Fame "is for the best baseball players that have ever played."

Weiner thinks Pete Rose should be in the Hall despite Rose's history of gambling, and he expects that there will be team executives inducted in the Hall who previously engaged in what Weiner called the "massive conspiracy called collusion" against the players.

He also likened negotiations between the owners of baseball teams and the athletes they employ to national economic problems.

Governments Around The World Grapple With Nonprofit Journalism

In Free Press’ 2011 report on international models for public media, we noted how many of the changes we are witnessing in the American media landscape are also happening internationally. Public media systems around the world are debating how best to transition from broadcast to broadband, newspapers are cutting costs and struggling to adapt to the digital age and governments are grappling with ways to bridge the digital divide. All of these debates impact the future of journalism at home and abroad.

Similarly, the debate over whether journalism counts as a charitable activity, and whether news organizations should be eligible for nonprofit status, does not end at our borders. Here in the U.S., the Internal Revenue Service is blocking many journalism organizations from establishing themselves as nonprofits while it studies whether journalism constitutes an educational or charitable activity within the U.S. tax code. Some journalists have been caught in a bureaucratic limbo for as long as two years as they've waited for the IRS to make a decision.

It Just Doesn't End

Critics of the General Services Administration's spending have a new target: employee relocation expenses. GSA spent millions to transfer staff from one office to another, including $330,000 to move one worker from Denver to Hawaii. The Associated Press obtained a transcript of the inspector general's interviews with employees. In them, the workers said GSA paid for house hunting, groceries and even buying the former house if the employee who was moving couldn't sell it. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) called this latest news one more example of GSA's "abusive spending." His committee holds a hearing Monday.

GSA Employees Spent 5 Days in Hawaii for 1-hour Groundbreaking Event

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee said Wednesday that five employees associated with the recently scandal-plagued Government Services Administration went to Hawaii for up to a week in 2011 to attend an hour-long groundbreaking on space leased by the federal government for the FBI.

Details of the incident surfaced in a transcript of an interview between the GSA Inspector General’s Office and a GSA employee.

The employee indicated to the IG investigator that trip was not isolated and that there was another, longer junket scheduled for Hawaii this fall.

That one would be in Hilo, Hawaii for 10 days and would include groundbreakings for a federal building, a post office and perhaps a courthouse.

GSA Says It Promisses No Retaliation If You Narc

The acting administrator and inspector general of the General Services Administration issued a request. They want employees to stand up and report cases of waste, fraud and abuse. The two promise there won't be any retaliation against those who come forward.

Arthur W. Perdue Foundation Announces $50,000 Matching Grant For Wicomico Mentoring Project

The Arthur W. Perdue Foundation has awarded a $50,000 matching grant to the Wicomico Mentoring Project to support the essential role the project and its volunteer mentors play in ensuring the success of hundreds of Wicomico County students.

Officials from Wicomico County Public Schools, the Wicomico County Board of Education and the Wicomico Mentoring Project made the grant announcement on Wednesday, April 11, at Beaver Run Elementary School. The $50,000 Perdue Foundation matching grant will be awarded once the Wicomico Mentoring Project has raised an additional $50,000 in funds from the community. This would ensure $100,000 in funding for the 2012-13 school year.

Can't Keep Up

Smart phones and tablets are sweeping into government faster than agencies can figure out how to secure them. The Transportation Security Administration CIO said 50,000 TSA employees work away from an office, but the agency is only in the beginning stages of developing mobile device security policies. The Marine Corps cybersecurity chief said he's trying to get in front of the problem. His staff developed a three-level security strategy.

MCCONCHIE AND HARNED: Obamacare Abortion Mandate Withers

The Department of Health and Human Services has set in motion the Obamacare abortion premium mandate, a provision that permits insurance plans that cover abortions to participate in state exchanges and requires all enrollees in those plans - even those with religious and moral objections to abortion - to pay a separate monthly premium to cover abortions. But many states are diligently passing laws to stop it.

The administration’s health care law permits a state to opt out of allowing health insurance plans that cover abortions to participate in the new health insurance exchanges within that state and thereby prohibit taxpayer money from subsidizing plans that cover abortions.

South Dakota recently became the 15th state to enact such a law. Based on model language by Americans United for Life, South Dakota’s law expressly states, “No qualified health plan offered through a health insurance exchange established in the state may include elective abortion coverage.” In other words, anyone who wants to have insurance coverage for abortion must pay for it outside of the government-subsidized exchange. Taxpayers and persons enrolled in insurance plans in the South Dakota exchange will not be forced to pay for the abortions of other South Dakotans.

Woman Banned From Walmart For 5 Years After Bleach Fight

A Lansdowne woman was ordered to stay out of Walmart for five years after pleading guilty Wednesday to misdemeanor assault in a bleach and Pine-Sol fight that briefly shut down a Baltimore County store last fall.

Theresa M. Jefferson, 33, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in the altercation with Ebony Odoms, 38, which broke out Oct. 8 inside a Walmart at the Lansdowne Station shopping center. She was given a suspended five-year sentence, probation and community service, and ordered by Baltimore County Circuit Judge Robert E. Cahill Jr. to stay away from Odoms and "stay out of Walmart."

Her lawyer, John G. Turnbull III, said after the 15-minute hearing that he understood that to mean all Walmart stores, not just the one on Washington Boulevard where the incident took place. The store was shut down for a few hours after the mix of chemicals unleashed noxious fumes. Nineteen people were taken to hospitals for treatment.

Easton High Lacrosse Players' Suspensions Reversed

EASTON -- Maryland's Board of Education ruled Tuesday that Talbot County Public Schools' personnel failed to use appropriate discretion last spring when two lacrosse players were suspended for possessing a penknife and a lighter for repairing sports equipment.

The state board ruled that the local Board of Education violated the law when it affirmed TCPS Superintendent Dr. Karen Salmon's suspension of the players, Casey Edsall and Graham Dennis.

Dennis, who had scissors, a 2-inch folding penknife, a screwdriver and a Leatherman multi-tool in his lacrosse bag, was arrested by Easton police at the site of a search. He was handcuffed, fingerprinted and charged with possession of a deadly weapon. The charge was later dismissed by Talbot prosecutors.

Edsall's bag had a butane lighter used to seal cut strings on his lacrosse stick. School personnel called the lighter an "explosive device."

Unemployed Americans Outnumber the Total Population Of Germany

RUSH: You know, I oftentimes struggle here, as I mentioned last week. We trying to be as persuasive as we can on this program. Yesterday, I had a bunch of people send me charts. "You need to tell 'em this!" A chart is worthless on a radio program. It's literally worthless. It might be brilliant to look at a chart. A chart might be, when you look at it, so persuasive that everybody would get it. But it's worthless on the radio. So is showing a video, particularly if you need the pictures. On the radio it's worthless. There have to be other ways, which is what I, as a highly trained broadcast specialist, have specialized in, is these ways of persuasion.

You look at this talk about the unemployment rate, 8.2%, "Oh, coming down. It was over nine. Why, it must be going in the right direction." Okay, the challenge here, how do I explain to people that that number is meaningless? How do I illustrate the reality about unemployment? You can use real numbers. For example, and I had this yesterday, I didn't get to it, but something I think Romney should use, by the way, or Santorum, anybody, somebody on the Republican side. The RINOs need to be swept aside here and let somebody who really wants to roll up their sleeves take this stuff head on and do it. The number of working-age Americans out of the workforce, 88 million. The population of the country is 300 some odd million. So the 88 million still by itself is not all that illustrative. But there's a way to make it so.

Eighty-eight million working-age Americans out of work is larger than the total population of Germany, 82 million people. Now, that has a little bit more impact. When you tell people that 88 million Americans of working age are out of work. When you say that more working-age Americans are out of work than live in Germany, well, that has a bit of a different impact.
