MEDIA CELEBRATE INCREASED UNEMPLOYMENT, LOWER WAGES

In January of 2009, when President Obama took office, the unemployment rate was 7.8%. Four years and around $5 trillion dollars in debt later, it's 7.9%. When Obama took office the long-term unemployment (U-6) rate was 14.2%. Today, it's 14.6%.

Obama promised us 5.2%.
And, still, the media celebrates the jobs numbers. If you weren't watching the cable nets, consider yourself lucky. It was nauseating. CNN's Erin Burnett and Soledad O'Brien were practically jumping out of their chairs. Need I even describe MSNBC? Keep in mind that the media collective isn't thrilled because these numbers are good news for millions of everyday Americans who are suffering. The media's celebrating because they think these numbers mean well for one person's job -- Obama's.
In the hours since, we've seen the exact same spin from almost every media outlet, analyst, and host.

  1. Maybe it's worth celebrating because when he came in we were well on our way to 10% UE. A 0.1 pt increase after what this economy has been through "aint so bad". Especially considering that we saw a 1.3 pt. increase during the last recession, which was relatively minor.

  2. To 12:31: Did you forget that the UE nearly hit 10% about 2 years ago and that's after spending trillions.

Come on, the policies of gov't spending to create jobs is wrong. Gov't is not the answer - it's the problem. Demonizing businesses, raising health care costs, allowing fuel to double because we only embrace future fuels not fossil fuels, telling Republicans that it's their turn to sit in the back of the bus, refusing to change policies or even admit that the current policies are wrong, losing favor with most countries around the world. This is a nightmare. We actually voted in a novice at leading, a novice at governing, a novice at business, a novice at foreign affairs and a person unwilling to work across the aisle because he and the academics he surrounded himself with HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS! Never have I witnessed such arrogance from someone with so very little to be arrogant about.

  3. 12:31 is a spinnerboy...
UE was 7.6% after 2 years of Dem. controlled senate when Barak took over the reigns as president.
Barry took us to over 10%.
The last recession? We're still in it.But, it's even WORSE now. Statistics prove it.
