(PERRYVILLE, MD) - - A team of 25 Maryland state troopers are packing gear this morning and will assemble this afternoon at the JFK Highway Barrack to begin their convoy to New Jersey where they will provide law enforcement services to assist the strained police resources in the region. The troopers, all of whom volunteered for the duty, have a variety of police expertise, including canine tracking/search and rescue, underwater recovery and marine operations, paramedic certification, criminal investigation and special weapons and tactics.
The troopers will meet at the JFK Highway Barrack this afternoon and will leave in a convoy at 4:00 p.m. They will travel to Ft. Dix where they will stay during their deployment in New Jersey. The troopers will begin their law enforcement duties in Monmouth and Ocean counties in New Jersey tomorrow.
Media interviews with the troopers are available, beginning at about 3:15 p.m. today. The team will leave promptly at 4:00 p.m.
