I have yet to hear of a single case in which a sex offender has actually been sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in jail, have you?
So what was the actual purpose of creating these new laws if states attorneys are going to plea out deals before someone is convicted.
The idea, (to me anyway) was to get the Thomas Leggs of the world off the streets and placed behind bars for what our legislators and the public wanted in the first place. A minimum of 15 years with no chance for parole and no time off for good behavior.
I guess we the people have been snookered once again by our legislators. Will Matt Maciarello run from this case, (once again) and claim he knows the McGuire's therefore he can't try the case? I mean, after all, YOU did vote for him to protect you and more importantly, our children.
All too often Mr. Maciarello has passed off case after case claiming there may be a conflict of interest. Look, when and if someone breaks the law, it's time to do what you were hired to do. Laws are now in place to protect CHILDREN against monsters like the McGuire's. I have spent years showing Matt Maciarello and Sheriff Mike Lewis that these two people were extremely unstable and don't get me wrong, they certainly agreed at the time.
However, now we finally have the evidence to try these people and quite frankly I believe IF they are convicted and found guilty that the minimum sentence we worked so hard to achieve is finally brought forth.
I personally want to thank our local law enforcement for doing such a fine job in this case and that goes for our States Attorney as well. I just believe it's time to make sure they do what we elected them to do.
New Posts to fall below.
AMEN!!!!!!!!If Matt doesn't start doing what we believed he would do he will not be reelected next term. Why are all politicians such liars?
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that much of the work is reactive in nature. I think we need to look at how we can be proactive and help present some of the crimes. For example, Howard Dickerson from the Delmar Dustpan spent a great deal of time and was best friends with the McGuires. It seems awfully coincidental that the vacant house beside his ended up burning down just like the vacant house beside the McGuire's. The McGuires are currently charged with the arson beside their house. These 2 fires happened within a couple of weeks of each other. It does make one wonder about the coicidence. Now, Howard Dickerson refuses to post anything about his friends arrests and charges. It is almost like he is trying to keep under the radar so people don't put things together.
ReplyDeleteHoward Dickerson was Mayor of Delmar, DE but only served 1 year of a 2 year term. Any chance you can give us a bit more info on this guy Joe? If he is involved with the McGuires, I think the community needs to know who they are dealing with.
We all know that these Laws against Sex Offenders was pushed through to Laws for these in Annapolis to gain votes with false promises and scare threats of monsters that in truth has one of the lowest recommitt record track of criminals.Even today John Walsh has stated that the Adam Walsh Act is very flawed and needs to be looked at. The reasons for getting on these so called protect the public lists with a false sense of security is now growing in record numbers under these so called new laws to provide a false sense of security to the public. Many on the list after time becomes homeless as they can't get jobs, find housing or otherwise with being on the list. What rather you have a sex offender living next to you that is working / paying taxes / supportng his family and trying to stay right or a homeless offender living from place to place everyday and nobody knows where they are out. The only thing the sex offenders list is good for is vote grabbing and letting people know where these offenders are at for several hours a day if even that as many can't find jobs so they run the streets all day looking for help for jobs or food to eat and before you know it they have to committ crimes to survive and then we pay again for them in Jail when if Maryland would put the same amount of wasted money they do into the list into helping these offenders to get reconnected into life and help with jobs instead of beating them down at every turn and Annapolis using them as pawns for votes and making the public feel safe with these false usless laws and this so called VERY expensive list that only make us feel safe while at the same time has never proven to have stopped any crimes , only leads to increase crimes by being on it and trying to survive. Lets face it DID could the S.O.R. List have protected Sara Foxwell NO/NO/NO as this person was not on the list and the poor child's mother was dating this person and allowed him into her home , so list or no list it would not have stopped this sad crime and DO NOT ALLOW those in Annapolis make you believe any difference and be blinded by a vote grabbing person in Annapolis. Lets face it 99% of these crimes are plea bargined out before they hit the court rooms as the state only wants a conviction to help their conviction rate for when they run for higher office and to allow the list to grwo and grow as where it is now we do not really know who the real threats on the lists are as it is so large and growing everyday. And lets face it , if this List was so effective in fighting crime would we not have one for EVERY crime and all crime would be stopped in its tracks. So think about it before there is a list for every type of crime possible...
ReplyDeleteNope, just more smoke and mirrors.
ReplyDeleteJoe,I know first hand how hard you worked on these laws. The time you spent away from your own family and the compassion you had regarding the issue.I can equally relate to your frustration. Matt did not prove himself to us when he had the chance I only hope he gets it right this time. The "evidence"will tell.
ReplyDeleteIf Lewis pulled those pants up any higher he could eat through the zipper.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a shame that we have legislators who care less about people and more about votes. They keep coming up with laws that doesn't really serve a legitimate purpose. Just look at all the men who must register. The majority of them are not repeat offenders. Some of them had made a mistake and has never repeated. Most of them are productive citizens who have jobs, families, businesses and some are attending colleges and universities. Yet, they must register for the rest of their lives. Because of these laws, how can we tell who the true molesters or rapists are?
ReplyDeleteI've been told that the hearing for James Meagher, another sex offender arrested this month has been postponed. Wonder what that's all about!
ReplyDeleteSeems to me the new law doesn't mean squat!
Also seems to me that Matt isn't the tough guy he led everyone to believe he is!
Meagher is a creep, has always been a creep but I've thought from the beginning he'd probably get off, even with all the evidence they have on this guy! Makes you wonder if the Sheriff's office has done something wrong to blow the case!
I'd like to see justice---one more time before I leave this earth.

Plea bargins save the State & County money to use elsewhere.
Shame, Shame!

ReplyDeleteYour last sentence ring so true!
Why do you think they wanted a plea deal for the Leggs trail?
Only a handful of people know the truth!
The problem is (like w/the McGuires) when so many charges are filed, it ends up that they are allowed to plead to the lessor of the offenses in exchange for the more serious being dropped. Lessor offenses of course means a less severe sentence.
ReplyDeleteits seems more and more if u want to find a sex offender, just go meet a teacher at your childs school. It makes me sick 2 see so many teachers lately being charged. If the laws in place were being used I think it would help greatly. Funny how someone caught with drugs got 15 years this month in wocomico county but child molesters get a break???

Prison overcrowding IS NOT a problem in Maryland. None are filled anywhere near capacity. Not sure about county detention centers, but I doubt they are filled to anywhere near 80% range at any given time.
Sad to say that these institutions are at over 80%the there bud.however most of the populations are for petty things.from pot to trespassing.
DeleteWe need to keep in mind that sexual assault cases involving young children are very difficult to prosecute. If there's little evidence other than the word of a child who is too young to be sworn or to testify effectively, a trial will result in acquittal and double jeopardy will kick in. Plea agreements are the only way in such cases to ensure conviction and punishment. Fortunately for the children who were victimized by Early Bradley, there was a mountain of evidence apart from any statements the children were able to make. That doesn't happen often.
ReplyDeleteMatt was second choice after the passing of Sam Vincent. Rest his soul.but anything is better than Davis ruark
ReplyDeleteWhat do you expect when even the U.S. President and other lawmakers don't live by the laws and want to replace our Constitution!
ReplyDeleteQueensgirl makes a good point.
ReplyDeleteAll these laws that try to force the 'justice system' employees to do their job are enforced by the same 'justice system'. Most crimes happen in jails and schools, places where these kind of people have all the power. Get the connection?
