Town Hall Meeting?

While the Board of Education has held numerous meetings referencing the new Bennett Middle School, do you believe we should call upon our State Delegates to hold a Town Hall Meeting on this matter.

The Board of Education loads their meetings up with Employees of the BOE. It might be wise to host a meeting of the TAXPAYERS and non employees to gain a better feel of the citizens of Wicomico County.

Salisbury News has delivered literally hundreds, (if not thousands) of comments on this matter and quite frankly those comments have not been favorable in the BOE's favor.

No power point hype, just a good old get together. If the comments seem favorable I will personally make contact with our Delegates, get their availability and see if it can be done.

I look forward to your responses.

  1. Yes Joe, by all means, a meeting needs to happen with delegates w/o BOE interference. I am really sick of their shenanigans and it needs to stop - we have no money and those of us who own homes in this county are totally screwed anyway let alone adding more taxes for a new school that we don't need. Fix up what already is and live with it - like what has already been said, a new building is not going to make any student smarter.

  2. That would be a good idea. In the interest of fairness, could a "walk-through" of BMS be conducted just prior to the meeting?

  3. anonymous 10:03, I doubt it Mr. Fredericksen.

  5. I agree with 9:43. I would attend. I refuse to attend the meetings being held by the BOE and Rickie. I won't be brain washed.

  6. It is a huge mistake to focus so much attention on BMS and so little attention on the leadership at the top of the Board of Ed. Time is running out to change it.

  8. The school will be built and many support it. The vocal minority who come here and post over and over again to make the comments look like they overwhelmingly oppose it, won't work. Far more people support the school being built and will gladly pay a few extra dollars to help education.

  9. You can count me in on attending that Town Hall meeting.

  10. anonymous 11:36, some of us who OWN property in Wicomico but DON'T get to vote support you a-holes, kind of like us GIVING you welfare. Yes, many Wicomico County citizens collect WELFARE from those of us who invested millions of dollars into the County. So you take our tax dollars and throw it around without any of us having any say in it. Well, guess what, I have a Blog that combats much of that crap and we will create a meeting in which those elected officials will be held accountable.

SO, if you think you're funny or shoving your statement in our faces, You'e Been Blogged. I have a following here 20 times, (actually more) than those who VOTE. The majority DO NOT WANT their money pissed away on a Middle School just because you liberals do.

So let's see who wins this round because, (as far as I can see) the BOE is holding all these meetings because they know for a FACT the people do NOT want it.

I'll be sure to hold the meeting in a Church that has an INFANT room in it so you liberals can wait in there and continue crying. Staying in that room will continue your dignity without the MAJORITY of the public watching you.

    You're Welcome.

  11. You do a lot of good and bring to light many things that otherwise might not be exposed, but the community needs this school. I wonder if it was being built in Delmar, how would you feel about it then?

  12. anonymous 12:03, oh come on now. Delmar needs an addition to their school like there's no tomorrow. However, you don't see them, NOR DELMAR RESIDENTS crying up a storm.

GET BACK TO THE POINT, do you really BELIEVE the school will cost close to $100,000,000.00 to build?????

  13. Town meeting is needed. We dont have money for supplies for teachers. But "we" (BOE) can buy laptops, iPads, luxurios lunches, business trips, professional development workshops and overnights in Ocean City for meetings. (yeap, same post on another blog) Money is being wasted on salaries for employees that arent doing their job. While I understand we may need a new school, we MUST fix what we have at hand. Leadership must change. I beg each of you reading this blog, send letters directly to the board members and copy to our delegates and state superintendent. Do it for your child, grandchild, niece, nephew and friend. Truly, students are suffering.

  14. I could be wrong, but I thought the meetings held by the BOE were open to everyone, not just their employees. If everyone is so opposed to what they are trying to do, why aren't they showing up at these meetings? No one "loads" up a meeting that everyone is encouraged/welcome to attend. Maybe the problem is more that the people who complain do only that, complain. Get off your rear ends people and go to these meetings!

  15. anonymous 1:08, asking people to attend meetings in which they already know the outcome, (because the actual taxpayers get NO respect any more) is like asking a Redskins Fan to attend ALL Baltimore Ravens games.

Citizens STOP going to these meetings because the BOE has an agenda and no matter what "we the people" say, they couldn't care less.

The democrats know for a fact, if they overload these meetings with their own they will simply and purposely make people feel uncomfortable and THAT is why we need an ELECTED school board.

It;'s easy to say these meetings are open to any one and every one. However, because the bullies from the BOE treat the people that pay their salaries like crap, it's easier to not go and get or feel abused.

  16. With all due respect, Joe, that response to 1:08 sounds like a bunch of excuses. If people really care about an issue, they will get off their butts and make an effort to go to the meetings, regardless of who is running them. Yeah, it's easier not to go, but since when is something worth fighting for supposed to be easy? Obviously, the folks who want the school built are ready to show up and show their support. Now it's time for the opposition to do the same. And for the record, I don't think the fact that the school board is appointed has anything to do with people being too lazy to do something more than just sit back and complain on a popular blog.

  17. Employees of the BOE are taxpayers too!

Joe, if you don't like the decisions being made, perhaps your best course of action is to sell your property and vote with your feet.

  18. anonymous 10:55, typpical bully style demotard statement.

You know, we should ALL agree with whatever our government tells us, right?

I guess I'm the Anti Christ for not agreeing with you. Sounds like the Mike Lewis kind of attitude, you don't agree, shut up, move away and never have anything more to do with us.

You just remember one thing, I pay more taxes in Wicomico County than 95% of the taxpayers do. While I do not have a voting right, I have freedom of speech and a platform to express it.

Now, if you are who I think you are, you don't even have a job. You don't own a home and you suck from the taxpayers to pay your bills, rent and the whole nine yards, that's why you're afraid to use your name.

I'm a proud American who can hold his head high knowing I have done everything my government has asked me to do. Well, I guess you have too, right?

I disagree with this project, get over it.
