Business Closings

Joe: several month's ago. The tv reported that a new business was coming to northwood industrial park. It is supposed to make the windmills for off shore purposes. Then we heard that Cracker Barrel was coming. So, where are all of the NEW promised. Sign me, sorry for Salisbury ....OH did you mention that Perdue is down sizing big time!

Publishers Notes: If you'd like to add other businesses not mentioed in our earlier Post that have close and or even businesses that have opened, please do so in comments. I can add 84 Lumber, Mombo Italiano, Sheila's Craft & Party World...

  5. I'm sorry to see Mombo Italiano close. Speaking of restaurants, the "Noodle House" down from Shelia's has changed hands; it's a Vietnamese place, I think.

  16. Austin Cox is MOVING, not closing down....

Cracker Barrel had purchased property in Salisbury, but could not get the variance to allow the front of the store to face the major road, so they decided to move to Berlin where they could. One of Cracker Barrel's requirements is for the front of the location to face the major road. It does not matter where the entrance to the location, but the front HAS to face the main road as per their corp. standards. They were also looking at the intersection of Rt. 54 and Rt. 13 in Delmar, but decided on Berlin. This is straight from Cracker Barrel Mgmt.

  17. To Tidewater Bound - 10:33 Post

I saw Second National on the list yesterday because I saw 500+ employees.

However - I can't seem to find the list anymore on SBYnews - it may be they are updating?

  18. I have never heard mention of the massive downsize Piedmont Airlines did after 9/11. They outsourced several departments to other subsidiaries. Many of the jobs went to Pennsylvania. I wonder why they didn't choose to outsource to Salisbury?

  19. Great list. It proves Wicomico is the same as the rest of the USA.

While the rest of the USA is trying to fix the problem, Wicomico does nothing.

We're fine as long as we've got chickens and crabs!

  20. The sighing about Crackel Barrel/SuperWalmart and Berlin/OC needs to subside. Historically OC has been a relative ghost "town" from Mid-Nov until Presidents weekend, the 3rd weekend in Feb (Boat Show) - then slowly re-awakens in Mid March (NCAA basketball Tourney/Spring Golf) then starts rumbling along in mid April preparing for the Summer onslaught. When will the new Barrel/SuperWally cash in? June/July/Aug/Sept We all know this. Over the last 15 years, the small official contingent of OCers (roughly 10K per voting records - HAHA) no longer have to travel to Salisbury RT 13 to shop/eat. Heck, with the BJ's warehouse a short 20 minute ride up RT113 no need to travel to Salisbury. I think the Annapolis Politico's did it worst for Salisbury when they built the Route 50 bypass so summer travelers never had to go through Salisbury again! Salisbury's loss - ABSOLUTELY. No patrons coming through to stop and eat/gas up/etc, Salisbury's finest no longer could ticket travelers for speeding - etc.etc.etc. Politico's and special interest folks = bad. BUSHMAN
