More Than 1 Killer To Blame For Bodies Found On New York's Long Island, District Attorney Claims

The district attorney of New York's Suffolk County is disputing the theory held by police that one killer is responsible for the murders of 10 victims whose remains were dumped on Long Island.
Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said Thursday he doesn't believe one killer is behind the murders, LongIslandPress.com reports.
Spota, who said he believes at least one more killer is responsible, made the remarks during testimony before the Suffolk legislature's public safety committee on Thursday, according to the website.

STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY ON MARYLAND’S RACE TO THE TOP-EARLY LEARNING CHALLENGE GRANT

ANNAPOLIS, MD (December 16, 2011) - Governor Martin O’Malley today released the following statement on Maryland’s Race to the Top-Early Learning Challenge grant:

“Thanks to President Obama, Maryland's #1 ranked public schools will now be able to implement many strategies to improve early childhood education in our State. Together, we can better coordinate state and local efforts, encourage more involvement from our families, expand health and behavioral programs, and provide more support for our teachers and principals to better prepare our children in their early years.

“In Maryland, we choose to invest in public education, because to move forward in this changing new economy, we must create jobs and expand opportunity – and education is the best tool we have. While our participation in the federal ‘Race to the Top’ initiative has culminated with millions in education investments, this process has always been part of a long-term strategic policy initiative aimed at improving Maryland’s public schools and ensuring every child receives the world-class education they deserve beginning in their early years and beyond.

“I’d also like to thank the U.S. Department of Education, our Advisory Council of Early Care and Education, and all of those who supported its work, and congratulate the students, educators and administrators of Maryland’s public schools for demonstrating that among the 50 states, Maryland does indeed stand at the top. We are honored to have been selected as a winner of this prestigious competition.”

9 States To Share $500M In Early Childhood Grants

(AP)
WASHINGTON - Nine states will share $500 million in grant money won in a high-profile competition intended to jump-start improvements in often-overlooked early childhood programs, The Associated Press has learned.
The winners to be announced Friday at the White House are California, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island and Washington, according to an administration official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the winners had not been officially announced.

The Government As Lawbreaker, Again

Can Congress make legal something that is inherently wrong, and can Congress take a freedom that is a part of our humanity and make its exercise criminal?

If there were no First Amendment, would we still have the freedom of speech? The answer, like many in the law, depends on what values underlie the legal system. If the government is the source of our rights, then without the First Amendment's guarantees of free speech, any government could legally punish you for saying words and expressing thoughts it hated or feared; and it could even silence you before you spoke.

On the other hand, if our rights come from our humanity and our humanity is a gift from God, then we would still enjoy the freedom of speech, whether it is insulated from government interference by the First Amendment or not. The wording of the First Amendment itself gives us a peek at what its authors thought. They wrote: "Congress shall make no law ... abridging the freedom of speech." It doesn't say that Congress shall grant freedom of speech; rather, it prohibits Congress from interfering with it. And by referring to free speech as the freedom of speech, the drafters recognized that the freedom of speech already existed before the country that they were founding even came to be.

RON PAUL - THE ALTERNATIVE

Ron Paul rides in the back of a campaign van that’s rolling toward the New Hampshire seacoast for a town hall meeting. He’s fastidious in a dark-blue suit. He’s not the standard presidential candidate — he lacks the factory-built appearance of Mitt Romney or Rick Perry. He’s thin, bony, a bantam rooster. He’s 76 — the only one in the race who was born during the Great Depression.

He doesn’t wear his seat belt. “I never have,” he says, and doesn’t explain whether it’s a matter of back-seat comfort or a deep, philosophical aversion to nanny-state meddling in our lives.

There are a lot of things he doesn’t do, such as make small talk, or touch the tray of cookies at his feet, or doff his suit jacket and try to relax. What he’s eager to do is talk about ideas. The Texas congressman doesn’t have “positions” on “issues.” He has a philosophy.

The one big idea: Government tramples liberty. He’s by far the most radically anti-government candidate in the running. He’d boil the federal government down to a few, skeletal functions.
He’d end the welfare state, cut every dime of foreign aid, halt overseas military action and bring home all the troops. He’d return to the gold standard and abolish the Federal Reserve.

HAS FREEDOM DIED?

by 82ndSgt, blogging at The Right Planet, ©2011

(Dec. 16, 2011) — Two things happened recently that got little or no attention in the 24-hour news cycle, and for good reason. These things might seem at first glance to be totally unrelated, but when you look at them in the larger scheme of things they could be absolutely chilling. The focus of my recent op-ed’s has been an attempt to assemble a puzzle or mosaic, and these last two pieces bring the picture into startling clarity.

Just over a month ago Obama was threatening to veto legislation called “The National Defense Authorization Act FY2012 over wording in Section 1032 which effectively gives “authorities” the right to detain and torture American citizens indefinitely, just like those Al Qaeda members in Guantanamo. As Congressman Ron Paul warns,” this should be the biggest news going right now“, and he said the legislation would allow for “literally legalizing martial law“. Paul further warns that,” This step where they can literally detain American citizens and put them away without trial is arrogant, bold and dangerous”.

The White House opposed the legislation until, as Senator Carl Levin told lawmakers, “the administration asked us to remove the language which says that U.S. citizens and lawful residents would not be subject to this section’.

Let me run that by you again. The administration actually asked that language be removed which would exempt U.S citizens and lawful residents from this legislation. Are you kidding me? The administration issued a statement on November 17, saying that the president would veto the bill as it would challenge “the president’s critical authorities to collect intelligence, incapacitate dangerous terrorists and protect the nation”. The de facto president basically demanded authority to indefinitely detain American citizens and the Congress complied!

A Comment Worthy Of A Post 12-16-11

I have spoken with Earl on several occasions and have assured him that I am actively seeking a resolution to his issue. We have been friends for many years and he knows I will do whatever I can to help him through this.

Earl aside, the three ring circus that has taken over this blog is absurd. As you so poignantly stated, the assertions being made about our officers are meritless. Think about it, I’m the union president for goodness sake. Common sense should be all the validation you need to dispute what’s being professed here. This is nothing more than an attack by, dare I say, extremely problematic former employees (roughly 3 or 4) whose egos were too big to allow them to function in a paramilitary organization. You see, they were never disciplined, they were “picked on”. Do we have issues with favoritism and special treatment? We sure do. But it’s no more pronounced than in any other workplace in any other industry. More succinctly, our adult employees grow thick skin and learn how to work within the boundaries of their chosen profession. So GET OVER IT!

As for alleged misdeeds by our officers, I’ll comment simply that our officers and their families are normal, average, every- day people. True, like the rest of society, our officers are not always politically correct, some view speed limit signs more as a suggestion than a statute, and some apparently wear Halloween costumes that are morally inept. There you have it. I admit that ours is not a perfect world or profession. But that doesn’t mean the embellished and twisted tales expressed on this blog are even remotely accurate.

As for Tarek’s “smoking gun” evidence, I know he means well and I consider him a friend, but the information in his possession is nothing more than personal observation. It’s not evidence, its opinionated dialogue and nothing more. Nonetheless, I’ve also agreed to help him bring his slate of issues to light. Even the one’s from the documents he repeatedly threatens to release publicly, which, by the way, were already investigated some 4 years ago. I hope Tarek knows I mean him no harm or disrespect by saying that. But it’s time to recognize that our agency is not a corrupt syndicate, it’s just an outrageously dysfunctional family. Too many personalities and not enough square footage in the Public Safety Building I guess.

In order to quell this mess, I’ll be contacting the Department of Justice on Monday to request an investigation. I am beyond certain the investigation will disprove the malicious banter which has infested this blog. For those of you who were gleefully looking forward to watching the OCPD crumble under the immensity of its own in-fighting, I apologize for ruining your holidays. In the meantime, I’ll give the rabble-rousers the rest of the weekend to finish their closing arguments before the court of public opinion. How ironic… The union is protecting the employer. Now that’s a story.

Mr. Hester, thanks again for your comments. Your dose of common sense was much appreciated. I, for one, may take you up your invitation to visit.

Glen “Mac” McIntyre
President, Ocean City FOP

Publisher's Notes: Mr. McIntyre, I have to agree with everything you say here. While its unfortunate that "comments" get out of hand, I want to make it perfectly clear that our original content is in fact accurate, according to our source. It should also be noted that the OCPD could not speak about this matter as when it broke it was on the 8th and Campbell's resignation did not become official until the 9th and the Department had to handle it as a personnel matter. I find it interesting how it was implied that after the 9th they could talk about it but are now using the personnel issue as a reason to stay quiet in details. Mind you, I don't blame them one bit.

In closing, its unfortunate that Police Officer and Firefighters can seem to be the first to eat their young. This has always been a personal problem for me as I have stated for many years, most of them are truly clueless as to what BROTHERHOOD truly means. It is what it is but please do not shoot the messenger.

Vet Of The Year 2011

Many people may have forgotten about this man's time in the U.S. Army. He was the son of an Air Force General, and an accomplished Golden Gloves boxer. He graduated from Pomona College with a B.S. degree, and then became a Rhodes Scholar from Oxford University.

He joined the U.S. Army at the prompting of his father. After graduating from Officer Candidate School he attended and graduated from both Army Airborne and Ranger training at the very top of each class. He was selected for U. S. Army Special Forces Training but refused so that he could attend pilot training where he earned his wings, and became an accomplished U.S. Army helicopter (gun ship) pilot, and achieved the rank of Captain.

He was about to be promoted to the rank of Major, and appointed to teach at West Point when he resigned his commission from the Army to go into music and acting. You can tell in this video that his time in the military means a lot to him. I won't give away who it is. Just watch.

EXPOSED Why Krugman "Smoothed" Price Inflation Over Four Years

He argued for such this way:

One thing that becomes obvious when you look at inflation data is that the numbers bounce around a lot, not just from month to month but from year to year. One way to try to get past the noise is to use one or another definition of core inflation, which I think is necessary if you want to catch underlying inflation trends early. But to get a historical picture, it’s good enough just to use longish averages.
Since Fed policy can change from day to day, or at least from policy meeting to policy meeting, a three year or four year average is an odd choice. If Fed policy has been relatively stable over a part of that period and only has become more erratic in recent years, you would have to look at a shorter period, say year-over-year inflation rate changes to get a sense as to what is going on . Let's see what has gone on with a Krugman favorite CPI "core inflation" and also CPI "all items" (headline) over recent years:

S1867

Before you get started I selfishly wanted to throw out the point in which the MSM, (especially locally) refuses to spend the proper time on such massive topics. In the mean time they want to call us unsubstantiated, unconfirmed and not accountable. Well, let me just say this. Once you read this in full and realize you have NOT been educated by the MSM, I think you'll learn a whole new respect for "some" BLOGS. If it weren't for Blogs and Citizens coming forward with such information we'd be lost as a country. New Posts will fall below for the day.

Much has been said about the controversial National Defense Authorization Act for 2012, also known as S1867. This bill originated in the Senate where it was approved and forwarded to the House of Representatives. This week it was approved by the House and now it is on it's way to the President's desk, where it is expected to be signed into law.

S1867 addresses every aspect of our military from funding for research and developement of advanced military communications to the authority of our military to act at home and abroad, including the rules they must follow. Section 1031 is where the controversy begins....the authority of the U.S. military to arrest/detain people on U.S. soil which some say is a blatant violation of Posse Comitatus.

The Posse Comitatus Act is the United States federal law (18 U.S.C. § 1385) that was passed on June 18, 1878, after the end of Reconstruction. Its intent (in concert with the Insurrection Act of 1807) was to limit the powers of local governments and law enforcement agencies from using federal military personnel to enforce the laws of the land. Contrary to popular belief, the Act does not prohibit members of the Army from exercising state law enforcement, police, or peace officer powers that maintain "law and order"; it simply requires that any orders to do so must originate with the United States Constitution or Act of Congress. (Wikipedia)

Now to the meat of it. Section 1031 states as follows:

SEC. 1031. AFFIRMATION OF AUTHORITY OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES TO DETAIN COVERED PERSONS PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORIZATION FOR USE OF MILITARY FORCE.

(a) IN GENERAL.—Congress affirms that the authority of the President to use all necessary and appropriate force pursuant to the Authorization for Use of Military Force (Public Law 107–40) includes the authority for the Armed Forces of the United States to detain covered persons (as defined in subsection (b)) pending disposition under the law of war.

(b) COVERED PERSONS.—A covered person under this section is any person as follows:

(1) A person who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored those responsible for those attacks.

(2) A person who was a part of or substantially supported al-Qaeda, the Taliban, or associated forces that are engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners, including any person who has committed a belligerent act or has directly supported such hostilities in aid of such enemy forces.

(c) DISPOSITION UNDER LAW OF WAR.—The disposition of a person under the law of war as described in subsection (a) may include the following:

(1) Detention under the law of war without trial until the end of the hostilities authorized by the Authorization for Use of Military Force.

(2) Trial under chapter 47A of title 10, United States Code (as amended by the Military Commissions Act of 2009 (title XVIII of Public Law 111–25 84)).

(3) Transfer for trial by an alternative court or competent tribunal having lawful jurisdiction.

(4) Transfer to the custody or control of the person’s country of origin, any other foreign country, or any other foreign entity.

(d) CONSTRUCTION.—Nothing in this section is intended to limit or expand the authority of the President or the scope of the Authorization for Use of Military Force.

(e) AUTHORITIES.—Nothing in this section shall be construed to affect existing law or authorities, relating to

the detention of United States citizens, lawful resident aliens of the United States or any other persons who are captured or arrested in the United States.

(f) REQUIREMENT FOR BRIEFINGS OF CONGRESS.— The Secretary of Defense shall regularly brief Congress regarding the application of the authority described in this section, including the organizations, entities, and individuals considered to be ‘‘covered persons’’ for purposes of subsection (b)(2).

Opponents of this legislation claim that:

1) Subsection "A" is, in fact, the Act of Congress required by the Posse Comitatus Act granting wide open authorization of the Military to engage in law enforcement activities and virtually naming the entire homeland a battlefront;

2) Although U.S. Citizens aren't listed under "Covered Persons" , they aren't specifically exempted; (more on that later)

3) Belligerent - defined as "hostile or aggressive: hostile, ready to start a fight, or ready to go to war" is very broad and would be used to detain U.S. Citizens ready to stand and use force to defend the Constitution - under section 1031.

Proponents of this legislation claim that opponents are wrong. That the following wording from section 1032 specifically protects U.S. Citizens from arrest by the U.S. Military should this be signed into law.

SEC. 1032. REQUIREMENT FOR MILITARY CUSTODY.......

(1) UNITED STATES CITIZENS.—The requirement to detain a person in military custody under this section does not extend to citizens of the United States

It should be noted that this claim has no validity since it relates to section 1032 only (which is substantially more than listed above). It does NOT exempt U.S. Citizens from custody in section 1031.

And finally, opponents of this legislation say that Federal Law lays out certain circumstances under which U.S. Citizens can be stripped of their citizenship without recourse and therefore can be held without trial pursuant to the provisions of s1867. That Federal law is listed below.

a) A person who is a national of the United States whether by birth or naturalization, shall lose his nationality by voluntarily performing any of the following acts with the intention of relinquishing United States nationality—

(3) entering, or serving in, the armed forces of a foreign state if
(A) such armed forces are engaged in hostilities against the United States, or

(7) committing any act of treason against, or attempting by force to overthrow, or bearing arms against, the United States, violating or conspiring to violate any of the provisions of section 2383 of title 18, or willfully performing any act in violation of section 2385 of title 18, or violating section 2384 of title 18 by engaging in a conspiracy to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, if and when he is convicted thereof by a court martial or by a court of competent jurisdiction.

From the Homeland Security report: “Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.” In other words, if you support the Tenth Amendment of the Constitution and want the government out of your business then this administration considers you a terrorist.

So, do you really want Obama to have the power to send the military to arrest you and detain you “under the law of war without trial until the end of the hostilities” as prescribed in Section 1031 of this act?

Reports from Moscow appeared to provide more evidence of Iran’s ambition to build a nuclear bomb. Russian customs agents said Friday morning they found 18 pieces of radioactive metal in the luggage of a passenger bound for Tehran. A radiation detector at the airport identified the luggage, which had levels of radiation 20 times the limit.

Salisbury News Is Here To Stay

Rather than our traditional Survey Question today I'd like to take a moment to express my opinion on what I consider a serious matter today.

You know, seven years ago I went to the Daily Times with hundreds of pages of documents proving thousands of animals had died at the Salisbury Zoo. While I was grateful they did an initial article on this matter, they had barely touched the surface in its entirety and stated they would do several follow up articles.

The following day the then Mayor Barrie Tilghman and most of the City Council stormed into the Daily Times, the Mayor cursing like a sailor, (so I was told while on the phone at that exact time with the reporter) and yelling at the entire Staff.

Needless to say, the Daily Times backed down and refused to do any follow up stories. Instead, they told me, "Don't you think you've caused enough damage". I told them if they did not do follow up stories I would start my own newspaper and compete with them in the hopes of one day shutting them down. Yes, I was very angry at the time. Their reply was, "we love competition".

Well, here we are today, seven years later still plugging away and exposing information the Daily Times still refuses to publish. Instead, they take every opportunity to bash Joe Albero, Salisbury News and or as they like to call me, The Blogger.

In my honest opinion, thousands of stories have broken days ahead of the local Main Stream Media right her on Salisbury News. If a school is in lock down, where does this community turn and who can they depend on, Salisbury News. When an animal is lost and you're looking for help, where does everyone turn, Salisbury News.

You see, instead of a Survey Question, which would have been, Do you trust Salisbury News or the MSM, I think we pretty much know the answer to that question any more. We have seen the local media quote public officials, knowing what they've stated is a flat out lie. They publish the lie because they QUOTE that public official and they're not liable for the lie. Yet, (like today) they want to ACT like they are held to a higher standard.

We have no special interests here on Salisbury News. We express to ALL of our advertisers, you are not immune to what we publish if you suddenly become the center of attention and news worthy. We do NOT depend on our survival from advertising revenue. We instead enjoy the opportunity to take that funding and Pay It Forward.

Our mission is not to piss off everybody out there. Our mission is to get the TRUTH out there and it's been that way since day one. Love me or hate me, no one is going to scare me, threaten me and or shame me into quitting what I do. The Anti Albero Bloggers recently started yet another campaign to go after our advertisers and they have even created three new places to spew their flat out lies about Joe Albero. You know what, I'm cool with that. If any of you want to believe what these overly obsessed people have to say, that's your right.

However, when the local MSM wants to poke jabs at Joe Albero being just a Blogger and that what we produce is not trustworthy, they're wrong. The COMMENTS might not be held to be accountable, (as mentioned today) but MY ARTICLES are just as accountable as the local MSM and they know it. I have been sued three times and I have won all three cases because I did NOT lie. That was proven in Court.

If everything we said and did on a daily basis was challenged as a lie, well, I guess we would no longer be here today, would we. If Judge after Judge passed judgment in their favor on a regular basis I guess I'd be that guy the local MSM points me out to be.

Instead, I'm a winner. I have stood my ground as an American with the full support of my Family. I have invested seven years of my life giving back to this community and the entire Eastern Shore at my own expense. I do not ask you to pay me for what I do. I'm proud of what I do and who I am.

In closing, millions of people have come to Salisbury News. No one has forced any one of you to come here. No one is demanding you believe everything we say or do, that's your right. However, YOU keep coming back. We all know why. When people like Sheriff Mike Lewis shuts off communication, when Dr. Fredericksen cuts us off as an educator of freedom of speech, when the local MSM falls eight days behind a story and then feels the need to bash us as untrustworthy, Folks, you better think long and hard at who's influencing/controlling Americans minds these days.

This "Blog" is here to stay.

We can't thank the millions of people visiting Salisbury News enough. We started out as nothing and now we've become one of the largest resources of news and information on the Shore, if not the largest. We'll keep plugging along with your support. Thanks for allowing me this time to vent.

FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE, COUNTY EXECUTIVE REACH COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT

County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr. announced today that a labor agreement has been reached between Wicomico County Sheriff’s Deputies and himself. The Fraternal Order of Police represented the deputies in the negotiations leading to the agreement.

Pollitt said, “Last February 11th, I was greatly pleased when our full-time, certified Sheriff’s Deputies below the rank of Lieutenant voted 68-0 to authorize the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #111, to be their exclusive bargaining agent. I am equally pleased that, following a series of cordial negotiating sessions, a labor agreement has been reached. It marks the end of a long process for the deputies going back to their referendum drive of 2006.”*

Mark Wagner of the Fraternal Order of Police commented, “The Fraternal Order of Police is very appreciative of the citizen’s support for the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Deputies, in allowing them the opportunity to collectively bargain. The representatives of the deputies were very pleased to be able to negotiate this advantageous collective bargaining agreement which benefits Wicomico County as well as the deputies who protect this great county. The FOP looks forward to future agreements that balance both the needs of the county and the deputies who work for Wicomico County.”

The F.O.P. and county executive negotiating teams considered 28 provisions which were proposed as inclusions in the agreement. These included, but were not limited to: wages, a no strike provision, clothing allowances, vacation days, disciplinary procedures, furloughs and pensions.

The agreement now goes to the County Council for consideration.

BP Gets $250M From Maker Of Blowout Preventer

(AP)
NEW ORLEANS - Cameron International, the maker of the Deepwater Horizon blowout preventer that failed to stop last year's massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, has agreed to pay $250 million to BP under a legal settlement, BP said Friday.
BP said it was "in their mutual best interests, and the agreement is not an admission of liability by either party." The companies are dropping all claims against one another, they said.
The settlement comes in advance of a federal trial over the catastrophic Gulf oil spill. The non-jury trial is slated to begin in February and determine fault in the April 20, 2010, explosion and subsequent oil spill off the Louisiana coast of more than 200 million gallons of oil.

Governor’s Challenge – Which Team Will Take The Cake, Or Pie?

Salisbury, MD – For years, the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center has brought high school basketball players together in competition over the holiday break. In 2010 Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley placed a unique spin on this tradition by issuing a challenge to Delaware’s Governor Jack Markell. The wager: a Maryland Smith Island Cake to a Delaware Peach Pie. The inaugural Governor’s Challenge Basketball Tournament was born as a result, bringing with it a new level of excitement to the holiday basketball tradition seen on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

The tradition will continue this year at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center from Tuesday, December 27 through Friday, December 30, 2011 as teams from Delaware, the reigning champions, go up against teams from Maryland in the M&T Cup. Tip-off for dual games played simultaneously on two NCAA 94’ regulated courts in the main arena will take place at 2pm Tuesday through Thursday, while play on Friday will begin at 12:30pm.

This year, as the competition continues to evolve, coordinators announced the addition of two new cups. The Dr. Pepper 10 will bring some of Maryland’s best teams head-to-head against one another including local favorites James M. Bennett and Wicomico. Games for the Dr. Pepper 10 will kick-off on Tuesday, December 27th at 8pm. Play will continue throughout the week before the final games on Friday, December 30th beginning at 3:30pm.

The East Coast Challenge has pulled together four of the region’s top-seeded high school basketball teams to compete including nationally ranked St. Frances Academy (MD), Red Lion Christian Academy (DE) St. Johns College High School (MD) and Paul Laurence Dunbar High School (MD). The competition will be intense as each team competes for the win over the course of the week beginning Wednesday at 8:00pm. The winner will be declared during the final spotlight games on Friday, December 30th at 6:30pm and 8:00pm.

The Governor’s Challenge is open to the public for daily admission. Students (with ID) are $5 while adults are $10. Tickets will be sold at the gate. For a complete team list, schedule and more information visit www.SalisburyChampionships.org. Teams and/or schedule may change as the competition nears.

DEBATES What You Missed While Not Watching The Final Iowa Debate

-1 minutes. “Coxcomb” is the O’Reilly Factor word of the day. It means “foolish dandy who is overly impressed by his own accomplishments,” and it flashes on the Fox News screen, just a moment before the start of the 13th Republican presidential primary debate, also known as the last debate before the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses. Bill O’Reilly is either devilishly clever, or he’s such a coxcomb he knows not what he does. But still, he has done it. Another feather in his cap.

My Hat Is Tipped To The Coastal Dispatch

With former City Manager Dennis Dare’s chapter with the city officially closed now, it would seem logical for matters to start quieting down in Ocean City as the winter season begins. We learned this week that’s not going to happen anytime soon, as the Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) is embroiled in controversy.

After hearing all sides involved this week, it’s impossible not to conclude the upper management at the OCPD erred in how it handled former Officer Earl Campbell and K-9 Charlie, prompting Campbell to resign from the department. It’s worth noting numerous other resignations have occurred within the OCPD of late, but the specific reasons are unknown at this time, despite a swirling pool of unconfirmed accusations being made against Chief Bernadette DiPino and her management team.

In Campbell’s specific case, and we applaud him for shining the spotlight on his former employer, clearly there was a foul up in the chain of command and a dog suffered unnecessarily for days because of it. We believe Campbell when he says his immediate supervisor was slow to proceed with K-9 Charlie’s retirement from the OCPD because a veterinarian’s note was missing. That retirement would have turned ownership over to Campbell and allowed for the necessary surgery to take place days earlier than it did.

When the police department had its turn to share its side of the story, certain protocol was cited, but there was no suitable explanation for the delay and no acknowledgement that it should have been handled better.

What is clear is the Mayor and Council should be appalled that the supervisor said it was the council that was requiring the vet’s note when nobody on the council was aware of the situation in the first place at that time. The chief later allowed the dog to retire without the note out of interest for the animal. Nonetheless, the dog, a sworn officer, suffered unnecessarily while no action was taken. That’s inexcusable.

All Campbell says he wants to see here is a policy in place to prevent this period of uncertainty from happening again in the future. That much would appear to be reasonable and the OCPD should have had a policy in its General Orders for these types of situation. There is an order for practically everything else. If it does exist, it needs to be revisited.

Although reluctant to get involved in police personnel matters, the council should discuss this matter publicly with all parties involved. This was clearly mishandled by the department, which has been embarrassed as a result. The council will most likely not intervene, but it would certainly seem appropriate for the council to hold a public meeting to discuss this situation that blew up into a frenzy this week and does not appear to be calming anytime soon.

Breaking News- Bomb Threat At Circuit Court In Wicomico County

There has been a bomb threat at Circuit Court in Wicomico County. They have just evacuated the building and are waiting on the Bomb Squad to arrive.

You see Mr. Dobson, THIS is real time news. While we're busy writing and posting articles, our day gets interrupted on a regular basis in which we need to stop everything and head out to scenes like this, take pictures, gather intel and then head back to the Office to post it.

But then again, I'm sure we'll read about it in the OC Today next Friday.

Price Increases 2011

Joe,

In response to your question whether I think inflation was 3% this year, I offer the following letters that my office has received during 2011. Increases from 5% to 10% twice is NOT 3%! For every dollar cost a year ago, add 10% = $1.10. Now add 10% to that, and you have $1.21. That's a 21% increase.

Reasons stated in the letters include the Tsunami in Japan, oil price increases, Obamacare costs, and skyrocketing increases in unemployment rates.

Let's be honest here, the tsunami was a horrible disaster that upset Japan's manufacturing process and infrastructure that we trade with, but if America still had our own way of manufacturing our own vinyl and PVC, there would have been a lot less effect on us.

Oil prices? We don't pump our own oil, so we depend on other countries' mood swings when we buy it from them. The biggest crime here is closing the Gulf and allowing Mexico and others to pump our oil and then sell it back to us.

Obamacare and unemployment? 99 weeks? If we all had our jobs back we would not need 99 weeks unemployment and would be able to buy our own insurance or just pay the doctor in cash.

Instead, I'm paying for my suppliers' employment cost increases, plus my own employee's increased costs, and the political mood of those who sell me fuel to run my business, and I have to ask my customers to cover these increases.

The ultimate result? People are fixing what's broken and covering the absolute core necessities, and no more. They are not adding on to their houses or businesses because their property values are plunging faster that the additions could increase them. Business is shrinking, not expanding. The government boot is on our necks, and we are all under the gun.

Other than that, everything's fine.

Newt Gingrich: Being Gay Is A Choice For Some

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich suggested Thursday that being gay is a choice. At least for some people.
Asked if people can choose to be gay, Gingrich told the Des Moines Register editorial board that he does not "believe in genetic determinism, and I don't think there is any great evidence of genetic determinism."
