Economy's Effects Felt At Dorchester Humane Society
The effects of Dorchester County's unemployment rate, which is the highest on the Mid-Shore at 10.4 percent, are being felt at the Dorchester Humane Society.
Dorchester Humane Society director Suzette Stitely said both food and monetary donations to the humane society have decreased. She said they need about $20,000 each month to operate.
According to a humane society press release, they are receiving daily calls from people who need to give up their pet after losing their job or moving due to evictions and foreclosures.
