Forget Tailgating, 'Homegating' Is The Next Big Thing

WASHINGTON -- Forget tailgating. 'Homegating' is the next big thing.

Homegating is the NFL's newest attempt to keep its already large female fan base happy. The league is launching a new party collection website, where it hopes to reach females by selling items such as cheese boards, coasters and side tables complete with team logos.

The league has good reason to reach out to ladies. With 79 million female football fans, the fairer sex makes up 44 percent of the NFL's fan base.

The website is essentially a large graphic of home that says, "Welcome to the NFL Party" in a banner across the top. One feature, Tami's blog, offers football party tips and another feature, The NFL Recipe Showdown Contest, asks fans to submit their best game day recipes to win prizes.

The site also offers a comprehensive selection of "NFL Rivalry Fashion," which includes trendy, team logo outfits for a variety of occasions, such as beach parties and casual Fridays.
