Senator Gary Siplin of Florida greeted returning high school students this week by personally handing out leather belts. It was a reminder that the law he got passed last spring, which requires that schools adopt dress codes that ban baggy, saggy, and underwear-showing pants, was now in full effect.

ReplyDeleteI hate that look too, and agree with the logic behind a dress code, but am not happy with the need to pass a law to enforce it. We are willingly giving up more and more of our personal liberties. Baggy pants today, opposition bumper stickers tomorrow, who knows what next month?
ReplyDeleteWe are not giving up any rights the way I see it. As far as I know the law is only directed at schools.
ReplyDeleteThat is fine with me. I don't want to see it in public either but that's another subject.
It's a shame we have to enact laws to force people to use common sense and decency.
Not everyone is from the ghetto and wants to see the crack of your butt or your underwear.
I'm glad to finally see it addressed.
AND they got a free belt out of it. No excuses now. Pull em up!
