Dear Mr. Albero,
First off great job and keep up the good work! on to the subject of local gas prices. I am not sure this would be 'gouging' but the Dash In in Willards has raised the price of their gas by 19 cents a gallon in a matter of about 5 hrs. Is gas that hard to find right now?
I just feel this is really quit a jump in price and that they are just taking advantage of the fact that we have a major storm coming to the area. About 4;30 this afternoon I paid $3.45 a gal. and as of 10:30 tonight it has gone to $3.64! I most certainly will drive somewhere else for my gas unless this is now the average price in the area. Must be a great jump in crude prices or all of a sudden the supplies are at a critical low! Just felt people should know to shop around or about 20 cents more a gallon for no real reason other than to take advantage of unknowing consumers.
Thanks.
This increase is likely due to the shutting down of refineries in NJ in anticipation of the great natural disaster of biblical proportions - uh... I mean the rainy breeze we experienced
ReplyDeleteSam's Club raised their prices from $3.39 to $3.45 on Friday.
ReplyDelete10:58 AM that was a stupid comment. It has nothing to do with the refineries shutting down. They had already purchased their product at a lower price and then decided to increase their profit margin because of your idiotic theory and scare tactic.
Gas stations don't set their prices...the gas companies do. It's not the fault of the Dash In.

They aren't raising prices to "take advantage" of customers. They are raising their prices because of the laws of supply and demand. If supply is low and demand is high, then prices go up. It's pretty simple. If you don't think the price of gas is reasonable, then don't buy it.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 11:21, for what its worth, Sam's Club had sold out of regular unleaded gas early yesterday morning.
ReplyDeleteActually, the chain convenience stores can set a price whenever they want.
ReplyDeleteAlong with the community minded retailers who raised the gas prices, let us not forget the other stores and companies that raised the prices of needed supplies. Especially those that doubled or tripled prices for a generator.
We need to remember these people and spend our money elsewhere.
I'm sure Mardela Dash in is owned by the same company as THE ONE IN Willards. They raised theirs 15 cents while Goose Creek beside it, kept their prices the same. Kudos to Cato Oil for not trying to gouge and take advantage of people. Dash In's ownership sucks!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until all the green plug in cars become the majority. That way, a visitor will be able to "fill up" with cheap electricity at home and not be gouged when they come to the beach. On a busy week when there are 300,000 people in town, they only need to be a little polite in taking turn using many of the recharging stations that O'Malley is talking about installing. The traffic leaving the beach won't be as bad because the drivers will be spread out over a 2 week period after they recharge their green cars. I might even get a stuffed green parakeet to put on my dashboard as a symbol that I support the green movement.
ReplyDeleteEveryone tends to forget the other reason someone raises their price, to encourage customers to go elsewhere. If your aren't sure when you are going to be able to get another delivery it can be preferably to continue to have product to sell rather than run out

That is the stupidest, most ignorant rational I have ever heard in my life. Everyone in business buys a product to sell the product for a profit and not encourage someone to go elsewhere.
I bet you voted for Obama didn't you!
These convience stores do not usually make a 'large' profit on gas but on other goods for the 'convience' of not having to go to a grocery store. While Dash In was at that higher price gas was still plentiful and available at Shore Stop in Ocean Pines for $3.47. It had nothing to do with refineries or supply and demand just greed for being the only store in the community to be open and have gas to sell, nothing more and nothing less!
ReplyDeleteIf they didn't receive a shipment at at higher price, then it's gouging, plain and simple. Let's take advantage of people while in the midst of a declared emergency! I second the kudos to Cato Oil.
ReplyDeleteObama has said before he leaves office we will pay what Europe pays for gas; 9-12 dollars a gallon.
ReplyDeleteI know you are happy you voted for the NATION OF ISLAM NEGRO.
What does Obama's race and non-religion have to do with the price of petrol in Europe? I've never even heard of Obama being tied to NOI. I know people have wanted to call him a Mulsim, at least they get that from somewhere, even if it's wrong. My parents were Catholic.. So maybe if someone wanted to accuse me of being Catholic, it would at least make sense where that idea comes from, even though it is wrong. Trying to tie me to a religious movement started in Detroit probably wouldn't make much sense.
ReplyDeleteI read the K-mart in Elkton Md raised the price of water from 4.99 to 11.99.
ReplyDeleteAnd it didn't come from any refinery either. lol
