DGH Emergency Room Closed Due To Damage

CAMBRIDGE - Roofers are at work repairing Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge, after strong winds and driving rain from Hurricane Irene severely damaged the hospital roof.

The hospital evacuated about 30 patients early Sunday morning. The emergency room is closed to ambulances and walk-in patients. Those with medical emergencies should call 9-1-1, and emergency responders will take patients to the correct facilities. Should someone happen to go to the emergency room, nurses will handle triage and work with Dorchester County Department of Emergency Services to arrange for an ambulance.

"We are working really hard to clean up from the storm and we expect to be open within 48 or 72 hours," Linda Mastro, a Shore Health System spokesman, said.
