Incident: Vandalism Investigation

Date of Incident: 5 July 2011

Location: 30000 block of W. Rustic Drive, Salisbury, MD

Suspect: Pending

Narrative: On 5 July 2011 at 11:02 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 30000 block of W. Rustic Drive for a reported vandalism. Upon arrival, the deputy met with a victim who showed the deputy damage to his vehicle. An unknown perpetrator had scraped an unflattering term into the paint of the victim’s vehicle and also broken the glass from the side rear view mirror.

Incident: Theft Investigation

Date of Incident: 5 July 2011

Location: 300 block of Gunbys Mill Drive, Salisbury, MD

Suspect: Pending

Narrative: On 5 July 2011 at 9:24 AM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into an overnight theft from a motor vehicle in the 300 block of Gunbys Mill Drive in Salisbury. Investigation revealed an unknown perpetrator entered a minivan in the residential neighborhood during the overnight hours.

Incident: Vandalism Investigation

Date of Incident: 5 July 2011

Location: 100 S. Main Street, Hebron, MD

Suspect: Pending

Narrative: On 5 July 2011 at 7:38 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into the vandalism of a window at the Hebron Food Rite. Upon the arrival of the deputy the proprietor pointed out a window with a large crack from top to bottom. It appeared that an unknown object might have been thrown at the window, causing the damage.

Incident: Disorderly Conduct

Date of Incident: 5 July 2011

Location: 7200 block of Main St., Willards, MD

Suspect: Lester Hickman, 33, Harrington, DE

Narrative: On 5 July 2011 at 1:15 AM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office was on the
premises of the Willards Dash-in when the deputy saw Lester Hickman exit a vehicle in which he was a
passenger in the parking lot. The deputy watched as Hickman opened his door too wide and struck the
vehicle parked next to him in the lot. The deputy watched Hickman ignore the damage he caused and
enter the store. As Hickman returned the vehicle, the deputy went to approach him and watched as
Hickman opened the door and again struck the adjacent vehicle as he re-entered.

The deputy attempted to make contact with Hickman who became irate and disorderly with the deputy.
The deputy observed that Hickman, who was intoxicated, became a distraction to all who were on the
property and prevented the deputy in obtaining assistance for the owner of the vehicle Hickman struck.

The deputy placed Hickman under arrest and transported him to the Central Booking Unit where he was
processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the
Commissioner detained Hickman in the Detention Center in lieu of $10,000.00 bond.

Incident: Possession of Marijuana

Date of Incident: 1 July 2011

Location: Old Ocean City Road, Parsonsburg, MD

Suspect: Juan C. Colon, 20, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 1 July 2011 at 8:01 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office stopped a
vehicle on Old ocean City Road in Parsonsburg for exceeding the speed limit. During the deputy’s
encounter with the occupants of the vehicle, the deputy detected an overwhelming odor of marijuana
emanating from the passenger compartment. When one of the passengers, Juan Colon, exited the vehicle
in order to speak with the deputy, the deputy observed a baggie of what was recognized as marijuana on
the ground at Colon’s feet. Knowing that the baggie was not there moments before, the deputy surmised
that Colon had dropped the baggie.

The deputy placed Colon under arrest and transported him to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner released Colon on Personal Recognizance.

Incident: Driving Revoked

Date of Incident: 1 July 2011

Location: Old Ocean City Road, Parsonsburg, MD

Suspect: Alex A. Colon, 23, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 1 July 2011 at 8:01 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle on Old Ocean City Road in Parsonsburg for exceeding the speed limit. During the deputy’s encounter with the driver of the vehicle, Alex A. Colon, the deputy discovered that Colon’s privilege to drive a vehicle was both suspended and revoked in the State of Maryland. As the deputy investigated further, he also discovered that the license plates did not match the vehicle; in fact the vehicle was both unregistered and uninsured.

The deputy placed the driver, Alex Colon, under arrest and transported him to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Colon in the Detention Center in lieu of $20,000.00 bond.

Incident: Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

Date of Incident: 3 July 2011

Location: Sixty Foot Road, Pittsville, MD

Suspect: James Lee Somers III, 33, Parsonsburg, MD

Narrative: On 2 July 2011 at 11:44 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle for speeding and erratic driving on Sixty Foot Road in Pittsville. Upon contacting the driver, James Somers, the deputy detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from within the vehicle. Based on other observations the deputy made too, a battery of roadside field sobriety testing was administered, after which the deputy placed Somers under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The deputy discovered that Somers’ privilege to drive a vehicle in Maryland was also under suspension.

Somers refused to take the breathalyzer test and was subsequently released upon signing citations.

Incident: Assault

Date of Incident: 3 July 2011

Location: 700 block of S. Westover Drive, Salisbury, MD

Suspect: James E. Justice, 28, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 3 July 2011 at 3:22 AM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office investigated an altercation inside a residence in 700 block of S. Westover Drive in Salisbury. Upon arrival, the deputy met with a female victim who advised that she was involved in an altercation with her baby’s father that turned physical. The father, James Justice, is alleged to have struck her in the eye. While on scene the deputy saw signs of injury consistent with the allegation.

The deputy placed Justice under arrest and transported him to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Justice in the Detention Center in lieu of $30,000.00 bond.

Incident: Suicidal Subject

Date of Incident: 3 July 2011

Location: 900 block of Both Street, Salisbury, MD

Suspect: Withheld

Narrative: On 3 July 2011 at 6:24 PM, two deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded along with the Maryland State Police for a reported suicidal subject attempting to cut his own throat with a knife in the 900 block of Booth Street. Upon arrival, they confront the obviously distraught individual who was holding a knife to his own throat and speaking belligerently to law enforcement. The deputies managed to get the knife away from the subject and attempted to take him into custody to get help for the subject when a struggle ensued. It was during this struggle that two Wicomico County Sheriff’s deputies came into contact with blood from the subject.

The subject was able to be transported to PRMC for assistance. The two deputies also responded to PRMC due to the blood exposure. Both deputies were seen and treated at PRMC

Incident: Assault

Date of Incident: 4 July 2011

Location: 700 block of East Road, Salisbury, MD

Suspect: Julius O. Schoolfield, 36, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 4 July 2011 at 6:25 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported altercation at an apartment building in the 700 block of East Road in Salisbury. Upon arrival, the deputy met with a female victim who advised that she became involved in an altercation with her boyfriend, Julius Schoolfield that turned physical. During the altercation, Schoolfield is accused of pushing her off a step which caused a significant laceration to her leg.

The deputy placed Schoolfield under arrest and transported him to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner released Schoolfield on Personal Recognizance.

Charges: Assault 2nd Degree
