Marylanders are already going to pay new fees to fill the transportation budgets, and more taxes on tolls, gas and auto repair are being debated.
Possible toll increases for the Bay Bridge and other state toll roads will be debated in Berlin on July 14. The Maryland Transportation Authority has proposed doubling the toll on the Bay Bridge from the current $2.50 to $5 starting in October, and then raising it to $8 in 2013.
A town hall debate with officials from that department will take place at 5:30 p.m. on July 14, at Stephen Decatur Middle School, located at 9815 Seahawk Road, in Berlin. Check online at www.mdta.maryland.gov for any meeting updates.
A gas tax increase will also be discussed during the fall special session of the General Assembly,
“The Ways and Means Committee has had a number of discussions about applying state sales tax to other areas, even in lieu of increasing the sales tax,” which could apply to auto repair work, said Delegate Norm Conway (D-38B), a former member of the committee.
New fees approved for the fiscal 2012 budget have already increased the cost of a new car title from $50 to $100, and the cost of custom license plates from $25 to $50.
Does a public hearing ever serve a useful purpose? I guess the guidelines say that public hearings have to be held, but the legislators are going to pass the increase anyway. The public hearings are just a little irritation.
ReplyDeleteThis Democratic Assembly is finding more things to tax. Is nothing off limits? I went to Giant to buy a ready-made sandwich for dinner Saturday night. The price was $3.99, so I had my $4 ready (I use self-check); lo and behold, the price was $4.23. Now why is a food item taxed? So now they want to charge tax for car repair work? I can see taxes on the parts used in the repair, but tax on the labor? Good grief!
The Dumbocrats have to find new ways to feed the monster.
ReplyDeleteThe voters will find new ways to kill the monster.
They will tax everything they can and expect us all to sit by and take it. I do believe it is time for another Boston Tea Party!
ReplyDeleteWhy can't they find ways to curtail spending to fit inside the available monies they have?
ReplyDeleteWhy does it always have to be 'tax more so we can spend more'?
Someone has to pay for those who want to stay home + watch TV-not work + play basketball all day
ReplyDelete1:41, the idiot voters in this state will never kill the monster!
ReplyDeleteonly way to send a message is shop in delaware!
Time for another Tea Party except this time the Democrats get tossed in the Water...
ReplyDeleteThey get you coming and going. First they tax you on gasoline which if I'm not mistaken is to go to the highway funds which would repair the potholes in the road. Apparently that money got side tracked somewhere else because we sure have a plenty of potholes. Just drive down Route 13 every day to go to work. Of course now I need auto reapair work because my front end has been totally knocked out of line. So now tax me on the repair work--so you can send the money to the highway division to patch the potholes. I thought we already saw that didn't work--at least not here on the Eastern Shore. I don't know about the Western Shore. I don't go there much. Can't afford the gas now, and that is before they add the additional tax to fix the potholes. I am really getting to the point where I am considering that the ones not working are smarter than I am. I have worked all my life, paid taxes all my life, received no "tax credits" for numerous children, received no state aid to be able to pay these outrageous grocery bills I have to pay every week--and I am just really, really tired! Tired of the BS. Tired of the politicians "stealing"money from a fund it is set up to fund, such as Social Security or Medicare. If they hadn't taken the money and used it somewhere else, Social Security would be fine or if they would pay the IOU's they dropped in to cover the money they "borrowed". I keep hearing about all these "grants" Salisbury is getting or thinking or trying to get. The "Bricks" or "Linens of the Week" ring any bells. Where in the H*ll do they think that money comes from. It does not, I repeat, does not fall from trees. Stop the useless *ss spending and you won't need the additional taxes. Use the ones you collect for the things they are appropreated for.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the rant. I just am so daggone tired of working every single day and seeing this junk every day on the news.
received no "tax credits" for numerous children
ReplyDeleteDon't they still give deductions for Dependants?

Now you have hit the nail on the head.
