Brushing right after you have acidic foods or carbonated drinks can can lead to erosion of tooth enamel. It's recommended you rinse right away, but wait an hour to brush.
If you drink coffee or tea, add milk to help neutralize the acid and preserve the enamel. If you're a soda drinker, drink through a straw and rinse with water afterward or chew sugar-free gum to help neutralize the acids.
If you love sports drinks, realize they also are acidic and high in sugar.
