An openly-gay United Methodist minister was suspended from her religious duties for 20 days after elders decided on Thursday that she violated church doctrine by performing a same-sex wedding.
Rev. Amy Delong was also required to write a paper about how she should deal with issues that "create an adversarial spirit" within the church, according Rev. Tom Lambrecht, representing the Wisconsin Conference of the United Methodist Church.
"We feel good that it recognizes that there was a violation of church law and that there is a punishment levied," Lambrecht said of the decision.
She should be removed.
ReplyDeleteMarriage is a religious institution!
ReplyDeleteGive them a civil union - don't cheapen marriage...
As 11:15 said she should be removed!
Sounds like Asbury Methodist beside Salisbury State University
ReplyDeleteJesus 'freaked' out when He found money changers in a church. How much worse is this?
ReplyDeleteThe minister should be defrocked, credentials confiscated, and removed from the church immediately. Yes, Asbury and Bethesda UMC churches should be ashamed of themselves! The Book of Discipline is clear on this issue and UMC ministers know that. There have been one attack after another at the Annual Conferences to include this. All people can be forgiven but this lifestyle is an abomination to God. And it is an attack on the sanctity of marriage! If they want a Civil Union and the State they live in recognizes this, fine. But, this has no place in a church of God Almighty!
ReplyDeleteIn the spirit of the tone so far in this forum... should we also take things a step further, and be sure that all laws of old testament observed by clergy... removing any that don't observe them....
ReplyDeleteLike... say... a priest or minister who wears clothing of mixed fibers? Should they be ousted? One who has a garden with multiple kinds of plants in it, removed? Clergy who doesn't force raped virgins to marry their attacker and oblige the girls father to pay fifty shekels of silver to the attacker... clearly that Minister is in violation with explicit biblical laws.... just like these homosexual Ministers are.
If we are gonna condemn people based on old testament law and scripture.. then it seems to me that there should be a bit more consistency than I see going on..
