Utilities Bribe Almost All Elected Maryland Legislative Officials?

Seldom do I run across such a political wielding influence buying scam as I have uncovered recently.  But as I look at page after page of political contributions made by Maryland public utility companies - (i.e.. Constellation Energy and Pepco (DP&L)) - to virtually all of our elected Maryland Congressional officials.  When I say all - you have to see it in order to believe it.  I have never seen special interest buy basically everyone as I have in this instance.
When you go to the link below; Select - Organization
Select - Energy
Select - 2010 Election Cycle

The rest is self explanatory.  In Maryland - we will need millions to defeat special interest.  The utilities have an awful lot of muscle and as you'll see when you investigate the contributors - (utilities) - most of the politicians are virtually all bought and paid for - (Democrats and Republicans)

Pay particular attention to the horrendous amounts of campaign money that Constellation Energy - (largest western shore utility) - has donated to the various Congressional campaigns.  After that - enter Pepco - (DP&L's affiliate) -  on the identity list and you'll see the same behavior.  With the muscle they exercise it is almost next to impossible for the average Maryland Electric ratepayer to get a fair shake at the bargaining table.

Better to stay out of Maryland - until we get some new 'blood'.  And after what I have just witnessed on the above listed web link - it may be a long time before legitimate businesses decide to return to our State.

  1. Let it be written in the anals of History - (as has been shown on this blog many times) - Maryland has the best politicians money can buy.

After viewing the information in the link - SBYnews has got to be the most incredible website in Maryland. Great investigative work.

  2. I looked this up about 2 years ago and it was horrendeous then. It's about time someone shines a light on what these rats have been doing to us! If enough people throughout the state go after their local reps this would change. not until!
For once I'll say it! Thank you Joe and keep the heat on em!

  4. Joe - this is incredible information. There is no illusion as this information is factual.

And people wonder why there is a Tea Party?

Marylanders had better wake-up and fast.

  5. I noticed that Norm Conway, Rudy Cain, Addie Eckhard, Paige Elmore, Rich Colburn - they all accepted campaign money from these utilities.

Also - I noticed that all of the committee chairman received even more money than their elected counterparts. This is compelling information Joe.

  6. I'm going to try and notify Bill O'Reilly and Shaun Hannity's network about this. If ever there were a justified TV Special - this situation warrants it. It looks as though they are all on the take!

  9. Interesting that the majority of the funds went to democrats. Constellation must have some deep pockets!
Thanks for opening my eyes to this, Joe.

  10. Now, DPOL is asking the commission for ANOTHER rate hike to pay for wind farms and replenish the loss to their pension system after it lost money when the stock market took a plunge for the worse.

Times are tight and everyone has been pinched, no reason DPOL can't cut costs as well.

Time for me to look at solar panels and a wind mill.

  12. I'm astonished to see that Ulysses S. Currie is the only one to have been indicted. Man - owe - man look at how many times he went to the trough to get more utility money.

  14. The example cited in this article is about the worse abuse of power I have ever witnessed. Shame on the Maryland officials for taking the 'blood money'. That is exactly what it is when the utilities go to them to seek approval for rate increases. It truly is a deck staked against the average Maryland utility ratepayer.

  15. To 10:37 and 10:56 Post

I can tell you why the DT has not reported the activity. It's because the DT editor's wife has previously served as a paid representative for DP&L's public relations. Almost everyone knows that she has been involved with DP&L.

You are correct. Cathy Bassett is the DT's editors wife. She also assisted DP&L in the MAPP project application. She was a DP&L paid consultant.

If Greg knows what is good for him he'll let the story slide-by.

However - SBYnews is horse of different color. Nothing gets by SBYnews. That is why I keep returning to this site. They don't call it Salisbury News for nothing!

  18. Doesn't ANYONE wonder why ANY Attorney's General or States Attorney hasn't done ANYTHING at all? NO investigations? NO conflict of interest? How much money has to exchange hands (with corresponding votes) before our "leaders" say "HEY! THATS a BRIBE!!"? These snakes and liars don't even bother to hide this stuff. What if "we, the people" found out? LOL!! They don't even worry anymore....the fix is in and the people are powerless. Everyone was so big on rich Colbourne. Still big on him? He's just another thieving chump selling out the voters. Just like I told you.
