Local Democrats On The War Path

Not since the last election between Andy Harris and Frank Kratovil have I seen such nasty personal attacks on a single candidate.

I have been sitting here for the past few days rejecting nasty personal attacks against Mrs. O'Donnell and I have rejected them because there's no evidence that their smear comments are accurate or true.

What I'm personally seeing are the Democrats in major fear of this woman. It was a nasty campaign by both parties, O'Donnell won, end of story. The nasty comments won't fly here. Go somewhere else.

HISTORICAL COMMENTS BY GEORGE CHEVALLIER

Pipes

This history doesn’t go back too far in my memory, but it is hard to believe it has been 50 years since 1960. That was the era of the “muscle car”. I still have to roll my window down to get a better sound whenever I hear some guy come rolling along with a nice set of pipes. I always give him the “thumbs-up” sign to show my appreciation. By pipes I mean the exhaust system on a car. They all came with mufflers that made for a quiet ride, but that was not the desire of my generation. The best sound came from a set of glass packs on a Chevy. Ford sounded better with steel packed mufflers. Dual exhaust was mandatory for a really good sound.

We always kept our original mufflers, because when we got stopped by the police, they required you to have legal mufflers when you went in to have your inspection warning certified.

Another way to get the rumbling sound was to punch holes in your legal mufflers with a screw driver. I wonder how many guys punched holes in their father’s muffler and then regretted it when their Dad found out.

I well remember getting stopped one time in my ‘56 Ford (with glass packs) and the state trooper asking me to “hit it”. I gave a gentle push on the accelerator and it gave a low rumble. He then said, “I said hit it”. When I did, the loud “blap-blap-blap” that resulted convinced me that I was sunk. I was.

I even had an LP record at the time that was nothing but good sounds coming from different kinds of pipes. I guess there is something about the sound that just reaches down into your soul.

Another sound that was also illegal was the sound of Lake pipes. These were exhaust pipes that came directly off your exhaust manifold and exited just behind your front wheels. There were caps on the end that could be removed rather quickly with a 1/2” wrench. Without the resistance of mufflers, the car was a bit faster and they were popular at drag strips. The same sound could be achieved by running straight pipes, but these were a lot of trouble and were also illegal.

One trick that some of us unfortunate to have an automatic transmission had was the “wind-down”. By running the car up to about 40 mph in low gear, turning it off and letting it wind down, it would build up pressure that was released by turning the ignition on again. The sound coming from those glass packs was truly awesome. When Main Street was open for traffic, doing a “wind-down” between Market Street and Division Street heading east was a real hoot. The local constable was Jumbo Pusey, and he would just shake his head and yell from his position of the corner of Main and St. Peter’s streets, “Keep it down, George”. He knew we would only do it once and then be satisfied for the night. I later learned that this was not real good for the car, so I haven’t tried it lately. But that doesn’t stop me from rolling down my window and taking in the sound of a great set of “Pipes”.

Ailing Dog Left Near Trash Bin

The health of a Lhasa apso-type dog that was left in a cardboard box next to an industrial trash bin Wednesday is improving now that she is being cared for at the county's animal shelter, said Harold Domer Jr., director of the Frederick County Animal Control Division.

Domer wants to know who left the dog in such poor condition and why. His office received a call to pick her up in the area of 5800 Oleander Place off Crestwood Boulevard in Frederick.

She is an adult, and her color is tan.

Energy Department Says It Has ‘Mandate’ To Force ‘Market Transformation’ For House Hold Appliances

Assistant Secretary of Energy Cathy Zoi said Thursday that the U.S. Department of Energy has a “mandate” to issue regulations to determine what household appliances are available to Americans in the future.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the recently reestablished Secretary of Energy Advisory Board (SEAB), Zoi pointed to four tactics the Obama administration intended use to advance the “deployment of clean energy.” The first three were government subsidies for private-sector green energy projects, special tax incentives for green energy projects and low-interest government-backed loans for green energy projects.

“The fourth one, which the secretary and I love,” said Zoi, “is where we have a mandate. Where we can actually just issue regulations and do market transformation.”

Conservative Pundits Fire Back At Rove

Multisource political news, world news, and entertainment news analysis by Newsy.com

Karl Rove is facing criticism from his own party after claiming Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell is unelectable.

Texas Gov. Perry Criticizes GOP Leader Boehner

Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who has positioned himself as a national figure on firebrand conservative causes, has criticized U.S. House Minority Leader John Boehner for seeking a possible compromise on tax cuts with President Barack Obama.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Perry also embraced the two newly elected Republicans backed by the tea party movement in Delaware and New York - candidates that many establishment Republicans have shunned.

Perry has made Washington a whipping post in his campaign for an unprecedented third term, and he hasn't always limited his ire to Democrats. The longest serving governor in Texas history has often been mentioned as a 2012 presidential or vice-presidential contender even though he insists he's not interested.

While Perry is in a competitive re-election campaign against Democrat Bill White, he continues to speak out on national issues.

In an interview from his campaign plane this week, Perry waded into the controversy over extending tax cuts, the growing influence of the anti-tax tea party movement, and the recent primary victories by anti-establishment conservatives in the northeast.

Perry said he didn't agree with Boehner's comments last weekend that he could accept only a partial extension of the Bush-era tax cuts. He suggested Boehner, who since backtracked, had prematurely surrendered on tax reductions.

"I'm not generally the kind of guy that waves the white flag before I ever go out on the field of battle," Perry said. "I would not have said we're going to be making any compromises before I'd sat down and talked to the team."

Political Elites Fuming At Tea Party Success Of O'Donnell, Paladino

Tuesday night was a terrible evening for political operatives because people voted with their conscience, not along party lines. Elites aren't happy about it, and even the GOP is fuming.

Meanwhile, Washington Democrats are trying desperately to paint anti-establishment candidates as a pack of crazies. They're hoping to distract the public from the more pressing issues that have their party's polls in the dumps.

Sure, many that comprise this new wave of politics are atypical. They aren't polished. They're not carefully scripted, and they lack TelePrompTers, pedigree and cozy friendships with Karl Rove. Because of it, political consultants and "insiders" insist they're wacky. However, the popularity of their message shows that they're anything but.

These anti-establishment, (mostly) Tea Party-supported candidates are winning because they've been able to articulate a platform of fiscal restraint: cutting taxes, curbing spending and returning to small government. It's why Christine O'Donnell (above) beat GOP Rep. Mike Castle in Delaware, Rand Paul was able to upset Trey Grayson in Kentucky, Sharron Angle trumped Sue Lowden in Nevada and Carl Paladino easily swayed New Yorkers against former Rep. Rick Lazio of Long Island.

Originally, the Tea Party was discounted as "manufactured anger" and mocked by Washington elites. Even some on the right refused to take it seriously.

After it was announced that O'Donnell had won, Karl Rove discredited her on Fox News, saying: "It does conservatives little good to support candidates who . . . do not evince the characteristics of rectitude and truthfulness and sincerity and character that the voters are looking for."

But Rove, George W. Bush and many incumbents, including President Obama, are the reason we even have the Tea Party movement. Bush ran up deficits. Obama quadrupled them. To many disgruntled conservatives, Rove was behind Bush in giving us open borders, tax cuts that expire, Medicare Part D and busted budgets.

The current alternative from the left is even more cuckoo to voters: higher taxes, a new health care regime, more rights for terrorists, disregard for immigration law and constant apologies to other countries. Now that's nuts.

So, with mud on their faces, both sides of the aisle are trying to shred the personal credibility of the outsiders. They've blasted O'Donnell for not liking porn and blasted Paladino for liking it too much. They call O'Donnell a liar in a year when the Democratic Senate candidate from Connecticut, Richard Blumenthal, lied about serving in Vietnam, and Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters face serious ethics charges.

O'Donnell Wows Conservatives At Values Summit

The tea party's latest darling, Delaware GOP Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell, aligned herself squarely with the Republican Party's social conservative base Friday in criticizing Democrats and "ruling class elites" in her first national appearance since her upset primary victory.

"They're trying to marginalize us and put us in a box," O'Donnell said to cheers. "They're trying to say we're trying to take over this party or that campaign. They don't get it. We're not trying to take over our country. We are our country. We have always been in charge."

It wasn't clear whether she was talking about the tea party or the conservative movement or both. But it didn't seem to matter to the friendly crowd at the annual Values Voters Summit just days after she shocked the GOP with her upset of nine-term Rep. Mike Castle.

Since then, O'Donnell has seemed to focus on trying to repair a reputation battered during the primary's final days. She scheduled interviews on two Sunday morning news programs and made a last-minute appearance at Friday's gathering, which serves as a testing ground for presidential candidates and up-and-coming Republicans.

After taking the stage to Journey's "Don't Stop Believing," O'Donnell recalled when President Barack Obama took over the White House in 2009.

"The conservative movement was told to curl up in a fetal position and just stay there for the next eight years, thank you very much," O'Donnell told her audience — and then added coyly: "Well, how things have changed."

She repeatedly struck a populist, outsider tone, dismissing the "D.C. cocktail crowd," chiding the "Beltway popular crowd" and blistering "the ruling class elites."

"They call us wacky. They call us wing nuts. We call us 'We the people,'" O'Donnell said, invoking conservative stalwart Newt Gingrich's saying: "There are more of us than there are of them."

A Letter To The Editor

No boundaries at Boundless!

"Joe,

I am writing this to you because of an incident yesterday that involved my wife and, kids at the boundless playground on church street. This playground is one of the nicest in all of Salisbury since it has been refurbished. My kids go there at least once a week and it is a testament to what we as a city can do. Unfortunately the city is starting to ignore this playground (imagine that) and what is a beautiful place is starting to slip away. My wife arrived there yesterday to find the gate to Rt. 50 has been stolen and, a gentleman urinating in the corner of the playground. Now mind you I don't expect the Salisbury PD. to sit on site but a routine city inspection would be nice that missing gate is a big deal when you have as many kids playing there as their usually are ( a dozen or so at any time after school). I initially shrug this info off and, told my wife not to worry about it to much until she informed me that my youngest daughter had also stepped in what looked like human feces! What is the city coming to....dog, human it doesn't matter can't we as a people respect each other and, why can't the city stop by and check this wonderful place out more often (assuming they do at all!)? Anyway Thanks Joe."

With 210,000 Marylanders Unemployed, O’Malley Releases Another Attack Ad

ANNAPOLIS
– Henry Fawell, Communications Director for Bob Ehrlich for Maryland, released the following statement today:

“One day after Bob Ehrlich unveiled a ten year vision to get Maryland working again, Martin O’Malley unveiled yet another attack ad devoid of ideas for creating jobs for Maryland families. Martin O’Malley is out of ideas, out of touch, and out of momentum. Like most incumbents heading towards defeat at the polls, he is trying to distract Marylanders from his legacy of massive job losses, record tax increases, and ballooning debt that will be paid by our children. Bob Ehrlich is focused on restoring Maryland’s economy with his solutions-driven plan to create jobs, lower the tax burden on hardworking families, and rein in government spending.”

The record Martin O’Malley doesn’t want Marylanders to know about:
· Martin O’Malley enacted $6.3 billion in tax increases from FY 2007 to FY 2012 – by far the largest in Maryland history. As Governor, Bob Ehrlich has pledged he will oppose job-killing tax increases that hurt working families. Ehrlich also defeated or vetoed $7.5 billion in tax increases during his first term.
· Maryland’s unemployment rate doubled from 2006 to 2010 under Martin O’Malley, with 210,000 Marylanders unable to find jobs.
· Business confidence in Maryland plunged 58% under Martin O’Malley, according to a Jacob France Institute report.
· Four-year spending under Martin O’Malley was $22 billion more than the prior four years.
· Debt obligations increased $2.2 billion, according to the Commission on State Debt.

Frank Kratovil’s “Great Big Tax”

SEVERNA PARK, Md. – After airing ads that bend the truth about his own record, Frank Kratovil has resorted to false, negative attacks on Andy Harris. Kratovil is now airing a desperate attack against Andy Harris claiming Harris supports a 23 percent sales tax increase, which is untrue. Why is someone who says he is ahead in the polls running such a false, negative campaign?

“Andy Harris has a proven 12-year record of cutting taxes and supports fairer and lower taxes,” said Bill Lattanzi, Harris’s campaign manager. “Andy took a pledge to never raise taxes while in the state Senate. Andy kept his word and honored that pledge not to raise taxes and anyone who claims otherwise is simply acting as politicians do – lying.”

“Frank Kratovil should take a look at his own record,” said Lattanzi. “Kratovil voted for the Cap and Trade Energy Tax, which would demolish the agriculture industries, kill jobs, and raise taxes $1,600 per year for every single household in the First District.”

Democrats across the country have attempted this attack on candidates who advocate cutting taxes for all Americans. The independent site, factcheck.org, calls the attack “misleading” and “false,” explaining the proposal would “repeal the federal income tax entirely and do away with the Internal Revenue Service. It would also eliminate gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare and self-employment taxes.”

Here are the facts on Frank Kratovil’s Energy Tax:
Democratic Congressman John Dingell said that “Cap and Trade is a tax, and it’s a great big one.” (“Dingell: cap and trade a “great big” tax,” Politico, April 27, 2009)

The Wall Street Journal said “Americans should know that those Members who vote for this climate bill are voting for what is likely to be the biggest tax in American history. Even Democrats can’t repeal that reality.” (Editorial, “The Cap and Tax Fiction,” The Wall Street Journal, June 26, 2009)

Warren Buffett said on CNBC, “I think if you get into the way it was written, it’s a huge tax and there’s no sense calling it anything else. I mean, it is a tax. And it’s a fairly regressive tax.” (“Warren Buffett’s Live Lunch Interview on CNBC,” CNBC Website, June 24, 2009)

The Congressional Budget Office estimates the tax would be a $1,600 per year cost increase for households. (“Cap-and-Trade: All Cost, No Benefit,” Washington Post, June 1, 2009)

Farmers on the Eastern Shore fear Cap and Trade will “drive up their costs at a time when many operations are struggling to stay profitable.” (“Farmers fear climate bill cost,” Daily Times, July 2, 2009)

Barack Obama, while campaigning for president, said “Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.” (“Coal in your stocking,” National Review, Nov. 3, 2008)

The National Association of Manufacturers and the American Council for Capital Formation said by 2030 Maryland will lose 41,450 jobs and household income will decrease by $1,200.

(Maryland: Economic Impact on the State from the Waxman-Markey Bill,” National Associations of Manufacturers and American Council for Capital Formation, Aug. 12, 2009)
Americans for Tax Reform called Cap and Trade “job killing” and to think otherwise is “criminally stupid.” (“Farmers fear climate bill cost,” Daily Times, July 2, 2009)

O'MALLEY CAMPAIGN ACCEPTS DEBATE INVITATIONS ACROSS MARYLAND

Baltimore, MD -- With the primary elections behind us and Robert Ehrlich becoming the official nominee of the Republican Party, Rick Abbruzzese, spokesperson for the O'Malley-Brown campaign, released the following statement today on numerous debate invitations accepted by the O'Malley-Brown campaign.

"The goal of the O'Malley-Brown campaign is to have a series of substantive debates between Governor O'Malley and Robert Ehrlich, and Lt. Governor Brown and Mary Kane, on the important issues facing our state. The O'Malley-Brown campaign has already accepted a number of debate invitations and proposed formats, and will continue to work with the Ehrlich campaign to make these debates a reality."

Governor O'Malley is looking forward to a robust discussion, similar to the debates held in 2006, that requires each candidate to answer specific questions on the opportunities and choices facing our state. As we come through this national recession, Maryland families deserve more than empty campaign rhetoric and talking points, they deserve to hear the candidates discuss in detail their plans to grow Maryland's economy and protect our future."

Salisbury News Interviews Governor Bob Ehrlich

That's right, Bob Ehrlich was gracious enough to come sit with me for a very in depth interview with questions that even raised Bob's eyebrows.

We will be delivering that interview some time next week. Folks, let me assure you, no other form of Media will be able to capture such an interview and deliver the HARD QUESTIONS we asked the former Governor.

While I'm not sure if Bob has ever done another video interview with a Blogger, it's certainly a first for the Eastern Shore. I guarantee you'll enjoy this interview and I truly look forward to delivering it to you.

In closing, this is not a 10 minute interview.
