Market share has dropped yet again for this media giant and its stock value has tanked from $90/Share in 2004 to its current trading level of just $12.09/Share.
Just how low Gannett will go remains to be seen. But odds are that if you are one considering in trading the stock - my advise would be to short your position.

Bus Accident Investigation And Road Closure Advisory
Bus Crash US 13 at Marsh Branch Road near Greenwood
Road Closure Hazlettville road in the area of Wild Quail
DATE and TIME:
Resume:
Delaware State Police is currently investigating two separate traffic crashes. A bus crash happened around 3:15 p.m. on US 13 at Marsh Branch Road near Greenwood. The bus was carrying students and two possible minor injuries are being reported. It appears to be a Woodbridge School District bus however the ages of the students are unknown.
The road closure is do to an overturned tractor trailer carrying live chickens. This accident however occurred at 1:22 p.m. and the roadway is still currently closed because of an electric pole needing to be replaced. Delaware Electric Co-op is attempting to correct the problem I do not believe the tractor trailer is still at the crash scene.
More updated information will be released as soon as it becomes available.
Comments On The Daily Times States Attorney Article
"Joe should not be on this panal simply because he is biased and admits that he supports Ruark."
"Shame on the Wicomico Neighborhood Congress for inviting a criminal - Joe Albero"
"It's ok if some want to visit this criminals website every day for rumor/lies/innuendo/cyberbullying and everything else. He's powerful, for sure. But he's also a liar and a criminal."
"Why would a cyberbully with only a high school education be on this panel, where there are far more educated panelists available?"
"The Daily Times forgot to mention that Albero is a resident of Delmar, DE. He doesn't even live in MD."
I posted this comment.
"Let's get a few things straight. First of all, I have never been convicted of any crime. Secondly, I have never stated I support one candidate over the other for States Attorney. The only rumors and lies come from those who hide behind anonymous and fictitious names. My office is in Downtown Salisbury. I also pay taxes on 16 properties in Wicomico County. Where were you complaining when I was traveling to Annapolis fighting to increase the sex offender laws and SUCCESSFUL at it too? HIDING, that's where."
Joe Albero and Salisbury News have done more for this community than any other source out there. I have fought many a battles against the former Mayor, former Chief of Police, former Zoo Director and even the former Warden. Sure, they filed charges against me but like I said above, I have never been convicted of anything.
There are some that want to make claim against my being removed from the Salisbury Zoo. Well, let's, (once again) set the record straight once and for all on that. I was NEVER removed. I volunteered to stay out of the Zoo IF the Zoo Director agreed to 6 changes I wanted enforced at the Zoo. They couldn't win and they knew it. They agreed to follow those guidelines and a certain Official, (in which I trust) agreed to make sure these 6 items were enforced daily.
It was a win/win for both parties. My beef with the Zoo was not Jim Rapp vs. Joe Albero. It was about the welfare of the animals at the Zoo, who were dying by the hundreds. The former Mayor chose to pound their chest stating I had finally been removed. Well, more importantly, we took the high road knowing we had finally WON. Ultimately that Director was removed and the Zoo is now in much better hands.
As for this Forum tomorrow night, I highly doubt anyone will ask the kind of question I will. We have PROVEN in 37 candidate interviews we have done so with class and without bias. Tomorrow night will be no different. Let me also say this. Our interviews are not done. We have scheduled interviews that will blow away the Television MSM after the primary. I know, not hard to do since they haven't really done any.
Our growth is proven. Our local readership is larger than anyone out there. We have been dedicated for the past 6 years to deliver you breaking news and investigative reporting. You can try to take my comment off the Daily Times Website, (like you always do) but it is here for all to see and you cannot take it away from this Website.
Embrace and accept who Joe Albero and Salisbury News have become. We're not going anywhere and that's a promise I made some 5 years ago. Just look at who's still around and who's not.
UPDATE: The Daily Times has in fact removed my reply comment, as usual.
Rep. Kratovil’s Record Far From “Independent”
ANNAPOLIS – Rep. Frank Kratovil (D-MD1) started his TV commercial campaign with a 30-second spot where he describes himself as “independent” and unconcerned with “Democrats and Republicans.” Unfortunately, the Congressman must have been suffering from a case of “political amnesia” when producing the advertisement. Kratovil voted for the failed $800 billion Stimulus package which did not create enough jobs for the money and a Cap-and-Trade energy tax which would dramatically increase costs for struggling Maryland families.
“When it came time for important votes, Rep. Kratovil’s record shows that he consistently sided with Speaker Nancy Pelosi over Maryland families,” said Americans for Prosperity-Maryland state director Dave Schwartz. “By voting for Pelosi’s failed Stimulus package, Rep. Kratovil grew the deficit by more than $800 billion without creating enough jobs for the money. By voting for Pelosi’s Cap-and-Trade energy tax, he assured that Maryland families and businesses will be paying more for gas and electricity. The Congressman’s record is far from independent.”
Rep. Kratovil has failed to meet with members of Americans for Prosperity after countless invitations were sent to his Congressional offices. With 8 local AFP chapters that meet monthly in the 1st Congressional district, Kratovil has had ample time to hear the concerns of local constituents on issues such as jobs, tax policy and government spending. Instead, he has chosen to ignore Americans for Prosperity.

Wicomico County Health Department Press Release
(Salisbury, MD). As Hurricane Earl begins to make way across the Eastern Seaboard, the Wicomico County Health Department is encouraging everyone to take steps now to ensure they are prepared for the possibility of severe weather. Hurricanes and tropical storms frequently bring flash flooding and power outages which oftentimes increase the risk for potential for food borne illnesses throughout the community. Environmental health officials recommend the following food safety tips for residents to help them prepare now, should local power outages or flooding occur:
Always keep meat, poultry, fish, and eggs refrigerated at or below 40 degrees F and frozen food below 0 degrees F. In preparation for power outages, turn your refrigerator and freezer down to their coldest settings before the hurricane arrives and power goes out. This will ensure food stays colder for a longer period of time.
If the power goes out keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible. The refrigerator will keep food cold for about 4 hours if left closed. A freezer that is full will hold the temperature for approximately 48 hours if the door remains closed (24 hours if only half full). If your freezer is not full, move the items close together to help them stay cold longer. Having some coolers packed with ice can be used to help keep your food cold.
When the power comes back on, you should check the frozen food for temperature and/or ice crystals. If the food temperature is below 40 degrees F and still has ice crystals, it is safe to re-freeze. Food that has partially thawed and refrozen is safe to eat, although the taste or texture quality may have degraded. Discard all food with unsafe temperatures.
Maintain a supply of non-perishable food to keep on hand. This food should not require refrigeration or heating. Examples are canned food, or shelf stable food, bottled water, ready to drink baby formula or nutritional drinks. Make sure you also have a hand operated can opener available.
Discard all food that comes into contact with floodwater. If you live in an area likely to flood, move your food higher on the shelves to keep it out of the floodwater. Floodwater may contain fecal contamination and pathogens.
Drink only bottled, chlorinated, boiled or otherwise disinfected water. After a flooding event, consider water from wells and the community water suppliers unsafe until it has been tested for safe drinking conditions. When boiling water, bring it to a rolling boil for at least 3 minutes. You can add household chlorine bleach to your water to disinfect it. Do not use bleach with fragrances or detergents. Add 8 drops of 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (household bleach) per gallon of water and allow it to sit for 30 minutes before using it. Try to maintain a supply of bottled water, approximately one gallon per person per day.
Keep a Food Emergency Kit on hand including:
Household bleach or water purification tablets
A hand held can opener
A food thermometer
Waterless hand sanitizer and baby wipes
A small grill or Coleman stove for cooking. NEVER USE INSIDE BUILDING
A two week supply of canned goods, shelf stable foods, boxed or canned milk, and infant formula and pet food, if needed

Cooling Therapy Chills Heart Attack Deaths
It was a cold, drizzly March morning this year when Ed Sproull's heart stopped beating.
At 58, he had arrived at work feeling fit and healthy. As he stepped into the elevator at De Lage Landen Financial Services in Wayne, Pennsylvania, he had no reason to suspect he would end up in a limbo between life and death.
By the end of the day, however, it would take a novel medical procedure, therapeutic hypothermia, to send Sproull's body temperature plummeting in a dramatic effort to bring him back.
In the elevator, Sproull collapsed without a sound. He didn't grab his chest, he didn't indicate any pain or discomfort, he just closed his eyes and slumped down, coffee in hand. Unbeknownst to the colleague riding with him, Sproull's heart had entered a state of electric anarchy, no longer pumping out blood.
Responding to the 911 call from De Lage Landen, EMS Captain Chris Griesser of Berwyn Fire Company arrived less than 15 minutes later. He had to cut through a crowd to get to Sproull.
"We shocked him with the AED and we think we have a pulse," one woman kneeling next to the body told Griesser. Sproull's shirt had been ripped open, and electrodes from a so-called automated external defibrillator, or AED, were glued to his chest.
Within a few minutes of the cardiac arrest, a company employee trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation had jolted Sproull's heart back to its normal rhythm.

Salisbury News Blasts Into Yet Another Record Breaking Day
Yesterday Salisbury News experienced the biggest day we've ever seen, (outside those unique days when the MSM picks up on one of our articles).
We want to thank ALL of you for visiting and we hope you're enjoying the content we provide.
Folks, don't miss the Candidate Forum tomorrow night at the MAC Center. I will be one of the Panelists asking the States Attorney hopefuls a series of in depth and hard line questions.
Thanks for visiting and we'll see you tomorrow night.
The Search For Alex Flores
Once my Wife returned home yesterday I immediately took off to Fruitland to participate in a search for Alex in a corn field in Fruitland.
Up to 70 people had come out, (thank you) to help in the search and or to bring water for those already searching. Even Co Workers from McDonald's were there to help in the search.
A private helicopter also helped in the search but nothing turned up. The biggest question everyone was asking was, why are there no K-9 Dogs helping in the search. Allow me to give you that answer.
The Wicomico County Sheriff's Department do not feel there is foul play involved. Alex recently broke up with his girlfriend, (confirmed by his Father Felipe) and showed signs of depression. Alex was seen in his red shirt, (Friday Uniform at McDonald's) around 5 PM leaving home. He has yet to be seen since.
Now, there has been absolutely no activity on his cell phone since. There also hasn't been any activity on his credit card. He did not have his cell phone charger with him. What happened to Alex is beyond me but as a Parent I know I would do ANYTHING to look for my child.
Alex is driving a silver 2007 Toyota Corolla with tag numbers, 2ER E21. What makes his stand out over the rest is the fact that there is no pin striping along the left side of the car. There is on the right but not on the left.
In my honest opinion, right now, the easiest thing to find is the car. If you're in a shopping center or anywhere you travel and you see a silver Corolla, look for the missing pin stripes. If the car was stolen, they may have changed the tags.
Mr. Flores thanked everyone who helped in their search for this young man yesterday. It was rumored the last cell signal he had was around that corn field in Fruitland. Click on the 9:00 AM Post we have up and it will open onto its own page. Then click print and you'll have a flier to keep in your car.
If and when we receive any new updates we'll get it posted right away. It should be noted that candidate Julie Brewington was also on the scene yesterday helping in the search. My hat is tipped to Julie for participating along with ALL of you who showed up.
The Eastern Shoreman
The doctor is amazed at what good shape he is in and asks, "How do you stay in such great physical condition, John?"
"I stay in the swamp and I hunt and fish every day" says the old Shoreman, and, that's why I'm in such good shape. "I'm up well before daylight and out hunting or fishing all day. I have a beer for breakfast and at lunch and wid my supper. And I have a shot of hooch before bed time. And I say my prayers every night. And all is well wid me."
"Well", says the doctor, "I'm sure the prayers help, but there's got to be more to it. How old was your father when he died?"
"Who said Pop is dead?"
The doctor is amazed. "You mean you're 80 years old and your father's still alive? How old he is?"
"Pop be 100 next month," say John. "In fact, he hunted with me this morning, and then we went to a beer joint for a while and had a few beers and that's why he's still alive. He's a tough old Shoreman and he hunts and fishes every day, too.
"Well, the doctor says, that's great, but I'm sure there's more to it than that. How about your father's father? How old was he when he died?"
"Who said my Paw Paw's dead?"
Stunned, the doctor asks, "You mean you're 80 years old, your father is 100 and your grandfather's still living? Incredible! How old he is?"
"We tink 'bout 118" says the old Shoreman. He likes his beer too, but he won’t touch the hard stuff."
The doctor is getting frustrated at this point. "So, I guess your grandfather went hunting and fishing with you this morning too?"
"No, Paw Paw couldn't go this time. He's getting married today."
At this point the doctor is close to losing it. "Getting married! Why would a 118-year-old man want to get married?"
John looked down at the floor and mumbled "Who said he wanted to?"
HEY BANKS: THIS WOMAN IS ALIVE!
She was dead.
At least that's what the bank's security systems indicated. Sorry, a bank official said, we can't open an account for you. Rivers asked more questions but got only vague answers. An outside company indicated there was a problem with her Social Security number, she was told, but the bank wouldn't tell her the name of the firm.
"Needless to say, I was startled," said Rivers, 58, who lives in Jasper, Ala. And so began her digital murder mystery.
Rivers says her premature electronic demise has led to multiple denials of credit, difficulty accessing her own money and, at one point, a confrontation with police that nearly landed her in jail. She says she has been denied two job interviews because the firms could not validate her Social Security number. Still, she doesn't know why "the system" seems to want her dead. Read on to find out why you, too, can be declared dead at the whim of a few bits and bytes and find yourself in a true 21st-century nightmare.
After the initial safe deposit box denial, Rivers was given only this hint about her tenuous situation — after much badgering, a bank official showed her a letter with this one-line statement, "This Social Security Number has been discontinued, the holder of this number was reported dead on August 3, 2008."
She had been dead for nearly two years, according to the system. What system? The bank wouldn't tell her.
So she headed down to the local Social Security office right away.

A Reminder That Laughter Is The Best Medicine
A friend of the couple who founded Home Instead Senior Care, Mary Maxwell was asked to give the invocation at the company’s 2009 Convention. Initially it seemed like a normal prayer, but it soon took a very funny turn. Her deadpan delivery and lines like …This is the first time I’ve ever been old… and it just sort of crept up on me … soon had the franchise owners rolling in the aisles. With the timing of a professional comedian, Mary shines a very funny light on the foibles of aging, to the delight of this audience of senior-care experts.

Wicomico State's Attorney Hopefuls To Face Questioning
SALISBURY -- Wicomico County voters can judge for themselves the three candidates for state's attorney during a special forum Wednesday night.
Davis Ruark, the Democratic incumbent, has enjoyed a smooth re-election path since taking office in 1987.
That's not the case this year. Challenging Ruark are Democratic attorney W. Seth Mitchell and Republican attorney Matthew Maciarello.
The three will answer questions about their legal background, approach to fighting crime and relationship with law enforcement during a candidates forum Wednesday at the MAC Inc. Senior Services Facility off Snow Hill Road.
The Wicomico Neighborhood Congress, which is hosting the event, has put together a panel to question the candidates. The moderator will be Fran Kane, a co-founder of Salisbury University's Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement.
Mike Pretl, the vice chairman of WNC, said he expects there to be vigorous discussion about staffing within the State's Attorney's Office, the crime rates in Salisbury and the use of plea bargaining as a prosecution tactic.
"I'm looking forward to the open exchange of information," Ruark said.
So are his two opponents, each of whom say they are the best choice for state's attorney.
Mitchell, who will square off against Ruark in the Democratic primary Sept. 14, is a Salisbury defense attorney and former assistant state's attorney. He said his approach is to seek justice and demand responsibility.
"I will discuss the ways the other candidates and I differ on the philosophical approach of how the State's Attorney's Office should be run," Mitchell said.
Maciarello, who is guaranteed to be on the ballot on Election Day, said he will address a topic that has dominated newspaper headlines during the past several years.
"I'm looking forward to explaining to voters how a more proactive approach will be beneficial to fighting crime in Wicomico County," Maciarello said.
Serving on the forum's panel are Joe Albero, a blogger from Delmar; Sharahn Boykin, a staff writer at The Daily Times; Haven Simmons, a communications professor at SU; and George Strott, a Salisbury attorney.

Another Comment Worthy Of A Post
Personally I was homeless for 6 months. I did become an alcoholic to deal with the pain of what my life had become. I slept at train stations or in outdoor playhouses in backyards. I never wanted that life but if it weren't for one person in particular showing me that he cared I may still be living that life or dead.
If people would look into the eyes of the homeless person on the street they would see the pain that most are experiencing. Think about not being able to jump in a hot shower, not being able to sit down with family or friends because you are too shamed of what you have become. Without someone stepping up to offer help and encouragement many feel there is no hope to escape the reality that has become their life.
There are people on the streets that could care less about circumstance, but the vast majority do care and are good people stuck in bad situations. It is a life changing event that does change a person mentally, emotionally, and physically. Once you have sunk to that low you have a lot more confidence in who you can be because you know what you can become.
My experiences are why I am who I am and in a really odd way I am thankful for what I had to go through because it gives me so much strength to help others before they fall to that low.
Feds Dismissing Illegal Alien Cases
We knew the Obama Administration was suing the state of Arizona for trying to help enforce the immigration and border control law that the federal government has been doing its best to ignore.
Then we caught wind of a draft memo which showed the feds working on a backdoor amnesty program for illegal aliens, and then yet another memo surfaced after that.
Now the Houston Chronicle reports the cases of many illegal aliens are being dismissed by the federal government:
The Department of Homeland Security is systematically reviewing thousands of pending immigration cases and moving to dismiss those filed against suspected illegal immigrants who have no serious criminal records, according to several sources familiar with the efforts.
Culling the immigration court system dockets of noncriminals started in earnest in Houston about a month ago and has stunned local immigration attorneys, who have reported coming to court anticipating clients’ deportations only to learn that the government was dismissing their cases.
Raed Gonzalez is an immigration attorney and the liaison between the Executive Office for Immigration Review. He is quoted in the article:
Gonzalez said he went into immigration court downtown on Monday and was given a court date in October 2011 for one client. But, he said, the government’s attorney requested the dismissal of that case and those of two more of his clients, and the cases were dispatched by the judge.
The court “was terminating all of the cases that came up,” Gonzalez said. “It was absolutely fantastic.”
“We’re all calling each other saying, ‘Can you believe this?’?” said John Nechman, another Houston immigration attorney, who had two cases dismissed.
Attorney Elizabeth Mendoza Macias, who has practiced in Houston for 17 years, said she had cases for several clients dismissed during the past month and eventually called DHS to find out what was going on. She said she was told by a DHS trial attorney that 2,500 cases were under review in Houston.
“I had five (dismissed) in one week, and two more that I just received,” Mendoza said. “And I am expecting many more, many more, in the next month.”
What effect will this non-enforcement have on the dedicated people in our government who are trying to do their jobs?

Obama: Too Many Americans Still Out Of Work
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama acknowledged Monday that the economy continues to struggle and too many Americans are still struggling to find jobs.
He also took Republicans to task for what he said was partisan politics that are standing in the way of passing a bill aimed at helping small businesses.
The bill "has been held up by a partisan minority that won't even allow it to go for a vote," Obama said in brief remarks on the economy from the White House Rose Garden. Obama spoke shortly after meeting with his economic advisers.
"That makes no sense. This bill is fully paid for, it will not add to the deficit, there is no reason to hold it except for partisan politics," the president added.
He also said that he'll also have other specific ideas on the nation's teetering economy in the days and weeks ahead.

A Letter To The Editor
I read your blog regularly, and I'm not even a resident of Salisbuy- in fact, I live in The Northern Neck of Virginia, but I regularly visit Salisbury as part of my job. I'm an itenerant merchant, and I visit conveince stores in the Deleware and Eastern Shores of Maryland and Virginia on a regular schedule.
I was kind of taken aback by the negativism I've encountered in Salisbury, and I don't quite know why. The people are great, good hard working honest American dream chasers, like me, but there seems to be an underlying discontent with there town---they say the traffic is horrible, the streets aren't safe, the press and the goernment ignore their needs, etc, etc. There's a pretty easily found website which lists all sorts of cities across America, with the usual demographic stats one would expect, and an area where people can leave comments. and there is not one positive comment about Salisbury.
Being an itenerant merchant, and one whose focus is on conveinece stores, my interest gets piqued when someone starts mentioning high crime rates, so I did some research of my own. A simple google search of "conveince store robberies salisbury md" brought me to the cold case page for the Salisbury Police.
It was here that I read about the case of Irma Jane Smith who was killed in a Shore Stop in 1994. I found it kind of distressing that this person is the charter member of your cold case club, the first on the list, and there is almost no information about who she was or what happened to her that night in 1994. For some odd reason, that disturbs me.
I mean, here is a person who is trying just to make an honest living and working at the c store in a shady area of town and gets killed. There, but for the grace of God, goes you or I, right?
Who was the person? Has her own community forgotten her merely 16 years later? More importantly, what did her death teach the citizens of Salisbury, Md? Was it entirely in vain that she bled to death on the floor of a cstore?
Now, I know that I am an outsider, someone who comes and goes thrrough your community and only sees a glimpse of the whole picture, but sometimes it takes someone who is not in the picture to point out things others can't see.
Don't you think that it would beneft the community as a whole to remember viligantly those who have perished needlesly in the face of violence? Dosen't the community at large have a reponsibility to itself to remember those who fall needlesly? I guess what I'm trying to say is that if the community seems complacent about something as drastic as being stabbed to death while at work, it might seem to people who are inclined to act in this antisocial way that the citizens of Salisbury just don't care if you gun one of their own down.
Before you start beating me up, and I'm sure you will, let me stress that I'm not condemning your city or it's residents. I was deeply moved at how people turned out selflessy on Christmas morning to look for the little girl who was murdered last year. I know in my heart and from talking to people that the citizens of this city are much like the citizens of any city, but for a town of around 25,000 people, a murder should be a huge and jarring event especially when it is not gang related or drug related....it's a robbery and murder of a person just trying to eek by, and that is highly offensive.
I was a journalist years ago, and to this day have the reporter's curiosity. When I read the blurb from The SPD Cold Case File regarding Ms. Smith, I tried to find online information about the case, I mean 1994 was not that long ago, but there is nothing. Someone out there knows what happened to Irma Jane Smith, but the case is so buried, what are the chances that someone will come across it? Ms Smith was someones sister or mother or aunt or best freind....something. But, now, she's just a mention in a three paragraph article on The SPD Website. If you put a face and personality and realness to that mention, then maybe somebody who knows something feels guilty enough to come forward. Maybe.
A Comment Worthy Of A Post
My two boys had 20 minutes of homework! Both said their Principal told them they HAD to, and they love him so much that they got right to it. No arguments at all and I hope it keeps up all year. They read for over an hour each! I couldn't believe it, and I want Mr. Fowler to come to my house every night to keep them excited about school! And get this, they are talking about school uniforms at Prince Street - the whole staff was wearing them and it was great!
Maryland To Hold Early Voting For First Time
Maryland voters will be able to cast ballots on Friday _ 11 days before the Sept. 14 primary.
Michael Cain, director of the Center for the Study of Democracy at St. Mary's College of Maryland, says while early voting tends to increase voter turnout in a state when it is first implemented, he doesn't expect it will have a large impact on its own.
Donald Norris, chairman of the Department of Public Policy at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, says he believes early voting is "a big yawn" in terms of increasing voter turnout, even if it does make voting more convenient.

Kratovil Ignores Energy Tax Vote
“It is amazing Frank Kratovil would claim he defends small businesses after voting for one of the largest small business tax increases in U.S. history,” said Scott. “Kratovil knew how the bad policies in the Energy Tax would affect his constituents and he still sided with Nancy Pelosi to pass the detrimental legislation.”
The Energy Tax could cost Maryland 41,000 jobs and drive up the price of energy while placing more restrictions on local farmers, increasing their operating costs, making it harder for them to survive on the Eastern Shore.
“Kratovil is on the record supporting this over-regulating bill that would debilitate the poultry industry, farmers and small businesses,” Scott said. “Votes like these have Kratovil avoiding town halls and his constituents this summer, instead opting for controlled substance-less events with handpicked crowds.”
This Campaign Is Not About Me
My Friends,
We are less than 70 days from Election Day, and the campaign has been heating up. I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. My name is Andy Harris. I'm a Navy veteran, and a father of 5 (married to Cookie Harris for over 30 years). A practicing physician on the Eastern Shore and at Johns Hopkins (where I received my undergraduate and medical degrees),
I still believe in Ronald Reagan's vision of America as a "shining city on a hill." As a physician, I have the experience to understand the complexities of health care reform and yet the common sense to know a government takeover won't work.
My campaign is extremely proud of what we call the "Harris Volunteer Corps," a group of Marylanders who are committed to taking our district back. I am writing today to ask you to join us by signing up to volunteer today. You can do this at any time at my campaign website, http://link.smartcommunicator.net/?241-526-618-4267-3751. While you are there, you can catch up on the latest news, see my position on the issues that matter most to you and your family, or use our secure online donation center to make your contribution to my campaign.
I tell my staff all the time that this campaign is not about me, and it's not about the Republican Party - it's about the people of Maryland's First District. That's who I am running to represent, and I'm asking them to stand with me in this fight. Whether you would like to make phone calls, go door to door, put a yard sign up in your yard or a bumper sticker on your car- every show of support helps our campaign.
The Most Fiscally Irresponsible Government In U.S. History
There is an instinctive conclusion among the American public that President Obama's stimulus package has failed to create a sustained recovery. Unemployment has increased, not declined; consumers have retrenched; housing starts have crashed along with mortgage applications; and there is a fear that a double-dip recession may very well be in the pipeline. The public perception, reflected in Pew Research/National Journal polls, is that the measures to combat the Great Recession have mostly helped large banks and financial institutions, and that's a view common to Republicans (75 percent) and Democrats (73 percent). Only one third of either political leaning thinks government policies have done a great deal or a fair amount for the poor.
There is another instinctive conclusion among the American people. It is that the national deficit, and the debts we have accumulated, are of critical political importance. On the national debt, the money the government has spent without the tax revenues to pay for it has produced mind-numbing numbers so large as to be disconnected from reality. Zeros from here to infinity. The sums are hard to describe; it is hard to describe an elephant, but you know one when you see one. The public knows that, shuffle the numbers as you may, the level of debt is unsustainable.
Who could be surprised since millions of voters have discovered that for themselves? As one realizes the morning after the night before, there is an unavoidable penalty for excess. It is unnerving to wake up and learn that you have a mortgage on your home that exceeds the value of the property. Or, and too often both, you have a credit card line that you cannot repay and the issuer has you on the rack for ever bigger compound interest on the debt. The lesson has been well and truly learned that debt catches up with you. Millions understand that they are just going to have to find a way to live within their means—and then still eke out some savings to pay down debt. And there are well over 14 million Americans without a paying job, so the level of discontent is very high. Just how are they going to regain control of their lives?

Christine O'Donnell In Senate Race w/ Castle
Mike Castle is a liberal RHINO with currently $2.64 million cash-on-hand. It's just like the Miller-Murkowski race all over again, with the liberal establishment candidate having his or her pockets lined with special interest and lobbyist money.
Mike Castle has sold out principle for their big-contributions.
Castle voted for the TARP bank bailouts, and the auto bailouts.
Castle supported in-state tuition for illegal aliens.
Castle supported the anti-business Cap & Trade.
Castle supports taxpayer funding for abortions.
In fact, it turns out Castle voted for Obama's agenda nearly 60% of the time. He is one of the worst offenders in Congress among the GOP and its time to fire Mike Castle.
This is a Special Election, meaning that the winner will be seated the day after the election - which means Christine O'Donnell could be the deciding vote in the U.S. Senate to block the Obama-Pelosi-Reid agenda during the "lame duck" session after November's elections, but before the new Congress is sworn in.
Christine O'Donnell is pro-business supporting lower taxes and fiscal responsibility. She is one of the new strong female candidates that have a vision to cut spending and reduce the deficit.

Hugh Hewitt: Seventy Percent Of Americans Know They've Been Conned
Meaning of the crowd: An enormous upheaval in the emotions of average Americans is coursing through the country, with a certain significance for November's elections. It will have a lasting, profound impact on America's political direction.
Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin provided an occasion to glimpse this undeniable phenomenon. Of course, the interpretations of what the phenomenon is and what its consequences will be will keep the chattering class busy for weeks, if not years.
Some on the left are trying, with increasing desperation, to use old and new media to brand this surge in public participation in politics as sinister, even though it was preceded by a surge from the left of people and energy into President Obama's campaign.
The new tools of communication and the ease of movement have unleashed a tumultuous era of politics driven by the demand that elites not attempt to speak for, or condescend to, average citizens. They will not quietly or passively be lectured to, or insulted by, the president, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg or any anchor on any network, any columnist in any paper, or any blogger on any Web site.
The people on the Mall and the millions more who watched the gathering with satisfaction rather than fear are quite simply sick of the left, and of its vast sneer toward the traditions, values and, yes, faith of the American middle class.
The American Enterprise Institute's Arthur Brooks has quite accurately described America as a 70/30 nation, with the 70 percent presently massively underrepresented in the federal government, the Manhattan-Beltway media elite and academia.
The 70 percent is appalled by the placebo economics practiced by the president and the Congress over the past two years, shocked by its profligacy with the wealth of the republic, and sickened by the looting of the next generation's opportunities.
The 70 percent did not want Obamacare, but it has been thrust upon them.
The 70 percent did not want federal judges to declare "game over" in the complex discussion of what marriage is and means.
The 70 percent want a fence on the border that works, and do not want their concern over unregulated immigration dismissed as nativisim.
The 70 percent are not ashamed of their belief in God, deeply resent being labeled bigots because they view ground zero as land that ought not to be exploited for "messaging" of any sort by any group, and are enraged by the scorn which they encounter everywhere in media except Fox News and talk radio.
The 70 percent believe that the federal government is remote and clueless, and that the Constitution's principles of enumerated and limited powers and the sovereignty of the states are vibrant, important core values to the republic.
The 70 percent think Iran is in the grip of an evil, theocratic fascism, and that Israel is our true friend and ally deserving of our full-throated support.
We are in the middle of a perilous economic passage to a new competitiveness across the globe. We are watching other countries across the globe respond to the new demands of competitiveness by shrinking the public sector and encouraging private-sector growth. But American education is crippled by bureaucracy and burdened by the inability of a political class to demand reform of the practices and pensions of the public sector. Children have been hostages of this countrywide collapse of common sense for a generation, despite wave after wave of "reform".
Two years into what had been sold as a new politics and a new approach, the 70 percent are fully aware that they have been conned, suckered, and taken to the cleaners by a hyper-ideological amalgam of leftist public intellectuals, snarling bloggers, career politicians with limited abilities who are often corrupt, and a president wholly inexperienced in the management of complex problems who is in way over his head and prisoner to slogans and schemes that make for great campus debates -- but for disaster in the real world.
The people on the Mall were saying much more than "this far and no farther." They were saying "rewind and restart." They will hold that thought and that purpose as they peacefully, but with great passion and purpose, insist on real change come Nov. 2.

Veteran Legislators: Long-Time Lawmakers Say There’s Still Much To Do
In fact, while we’ve written about a few delegates and senators who are not seeking re-election, they are more the exception than the rule.
The longest-serving veterans are hanging in there, and today we start a series of profiles about several of them.
“Why would I step down when I’m in a position of power?” asked Del. Sheila Hixson, 77, the long-time chair of the House Ways and Means Committee who came to Annapolis 34 years ago.
But others, like Republican delegate candidate Ed Priola, say it's time for these political dinosaurs to step aside.

STAMPONE LIFTS ‘BIRDS TO 5-4 WIN IN GAME ONE
SALISBURY, Md. – The Delmarva Shorebirds topped the Kannapolis Intimidators, 5-4, at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Monday night.
With the game tied, 4-4, in the bottom of the eighth, third baseman Ty Kelly scored the eventual winning run on a sacrifice fly. Kelly doubled to the wall in right center to put the go-ahead run at second before a fly to left from Levi Carolus moved Kelly to third. Tyler Stampone, just off the disabled list, lined a pitch to right scoring Kelly. Stampone played in his first Shorebirds game since June 27.
T.R. Keating (2-1) pitched the final two innings to pick up the win for the Shorebirds (58-75). He retired all six batters he faced and fanned three. Chase Cooney (0-1) took the loss, going 1.0 inning.
Kannapolis struck for three runs in the top of the first on a bases-clearing double to right-center field by Ian Gac. The inning started with consecutive singles to put runners on first and third by Daniel Wagner and Ryan Lee. Tyler Saladino was hit by a Brent Allar pitch to load the bases and setup the RBI double.
Delmarva erased the deficit in the bottom of the second on three hits. Levi Carolus led off the frame with a single through the left side and Tyler Stampone walked. Austin Rauch then doubled to the gap in left center to plate both runners and cut the lead to one. Rauch has six RBIs in three games played for the Shorebirds.
Three batters later with one out, Mikey Planeta singled up the middle to tie the game.
Rosa connected on a solo homer to left with two out in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. It was his fourth of the season and first since July 18.
The Intimidators battled back to tie things in the top of the seventh. Jordan Cheatham walked before advancing to third on a botched double play ball to second. Then, with Juan Silverio up and two outs, Brent Allar uncorked a wild pitch to scored Cheatham from third.
The Shorebirds and Intimidators play game 2 of the series on Tuesday. Delmarva will send right-hander Matt Hobgood (3-7, 4.82) to the mound to oppose Intimidators’ righty Cameron Bayne (12-9, 3.79).
The Shorebirds have seven games remaining in the 2010 season. For tickets and information, call the Shorebirds Box Office at 410-219-3112.
