Gibson A Potential Suspect In Attack On His Ex Wife

Police open preliminary inquiry into alleged attack on Grigorieva

LOS ANGELES
— Mel Gibson is being investigated in a possible domestic violence incident involving his ex-girlfriend earlier this year, sheriff's officials said Thursday.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department listed the actor-director as a potential suspect in the alleged attack on Russian singer Oksana Grigorieva at an undisclosed location in Malibu.

The two have been involved in a nasty custody dispute over their infant daughter — the subject of a confidential court case.

Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said detectives interviewed Grigorieva on Monday. She has been the only person interviewed so far.

Whitmore declined to disclose further details of the investigation or any potential evidence.

"We're in the process of verifying, verifying, verifying," Whitmore said. "All the allegations that have been put forth will be thoroughly investigated."

The allegations are being handled by the same sheriff's substation that handled Gibson's 2006 arrest on suspicion of drunken driving. The station in Agoura also covers Malibu, where Gibson lives.

Think Before You Vote!

Over time I have received multiple comments on our lost and found animals stating that some believe there are far too many animals getting lost or found here on the Eastern Shore. Those comment brought me to this Post. I want you to think about this for a minute.

I'm sure many of you come here and think, you know, there are a lot of animals that seem to get lost. HOWEVER, how many of them are repeat offenders? How many of them show up here time and time again. NONE!

Now, I can tell you from personal experience that I have seen and heard of the Brewington's losing their own children MORE times than I have ever seen repeat offenders as Pet Owners.

Yet some of you fools will actually consider voting for these two! Things that make you go, hmmmmmmmmm? Welcome to the Next Generation.

Why Do I Love Delmar Delaware So Much

Isn't it ironic just a couple of hours ago I put up a survey question post about the worst roads in Wicomico County, only to hear all sorts of large equipment outside my home in Delmar.

I went outside and spoke with some of the workers and I praised them for what they're doing. One of the guys said, we're nowhere near done. I said, what do you mean by that. He replied, once we're done doing this section, (Rt. 54 to the Maryland line, less than 1/2 a mile) they'll come back and put a SECOND layer over top of the first!!!!!!

7.5 acres of land, a beautiful home, a huge barn, $1,200.00 a YEAR in property taxes!!!!! Folks, Delmar, Delaware is by far the BEST Town you could ever possibly live and the state of Delaware has more advantages than you'll ever know.

In recent weeks we have traveled to different State Campgrounds that were just out of this world. As a state resident it cost $24.00 a night with Full Hookup, 50 amp electric and water.

Some may hate me for making such statements but the fact remains, the TRUTH hurts. My home is less than 1/2 a mile from Salisbury. Our roads are paved and Delaware is working diligently to pave as many reads as they can, according to the workers I just spoke with moments ago.

Who's The All America City now? We don't need no stinking certificate!

Gulf Coast Now A BP Police State

Gulf Coast now a BP police state as law enforcement conspires with BP to intimidate journalists

Normally I would open this article by explaining this is the story the mainstream media won’t dare report. Except in this case, they are reporting it. It’s right on CNN, on the Anderson Cooper “360″ report.

What happened is that Lance Rosenfield, a photographer working for ProPublica (http://www.propublica.org/), was standing on a public road, taking photos of a BP refinery in full public view. After taking his photos, he was tailed by local law enforcement officials to a gas station, where they demanded to look at the photos he had just taken. A private BP security goon then showed up at the scene, and an official from the Department of Homeland Security soon arrived and began to intimidate Lance.

With his wits about him (and some basic knowledge of the Bill of Rights), Lance at first refused to show his photographs to local law enforcement. They threatened to detain him (probably under the Patriot Act) if he didn’t, so he gave in and let them see the photos. Later, when private BP security personnel asked for Lance’s personal information, he refused to give it to them. So — get this — the police turned over his private information to the BP security goon!

Tapped-Out Consumers Weigh On Recovery

Unless spending kicks in, economy could remain weak for years to come

In past U.S. recessions, consumers tightened their belts when the economy was contracting, and began spending again once growth returned. This time may be different.

The hope was that the government’s massive stimulus spending program last year would break the economy’s downward spiral and spur businesses to expand and consumers to start spending again.

The stimulus certainly produced the desired effect — over the short run. Economic growth, as measured by the Gross Domestic Product, surged in the second half of 2009 before cooling off in the first half of this year. Until recently, most economists expected the economy to continue expanding by about three percent a year. But in the past two months, those forecasts have begun to edge lower.

“The economy entered the second quarter with plenty of momentum, and exited it with very little,” IHS Global Insight Chief U.S. Economist Nigel Gault wrote in a note to clients Wednesday. “The evidence does not look so poor as to signal the dreaded 'double-dip recession,' but at a minimum it does signal slower growth in the second half of the year.”

Russia Moves Spy To Vienna For Swap

Convicted Russian Spy Sutyagin In Vienna
Move is seen as first step in swap of 10 alleged spies being held by U.S.

MOSCOW
— Igor Sutyagin, a Russian convicted of spying for the United States, has been flown to Vienna in what appeared to be the first step of a Russia-U.S. spy swap, Russian news agencies said on Thursday.

The state news agency RIA Novosti cited Sutyagin's lawyer as saying he arrived Thursday. Lawyer Anna Stavitskaya could not immediately be reached for confirmation.

Relatives of Sutyagin, a nuclear researcher serving a 14-year sentence for spying for the United States, said he had told them he was going to be one of 11 convicted spies in Russia who would be freed in exchange for 11 people charged by the United States with being Russian agents.

Speculation swirled around the possible swap even as Russian and U.S. officials refused to directly comment on any possible exchange.

Today's Survey Question

What Is The Worst Road, (pavement wise)
To Travel On In Wicomico County?

Gentrification Or Discrimination?

When my wife and I bought our house on 11th Street in Columbia Heights eight years ago, our friends and family were skeptical. My suburban parents were diplomatically silent on their first visit. A friend who had spent his whole life in New York thought we were going to get shot.

Dont worry, I told them. This neighborhood is getting better.

We had studied the neighborhoods of D.C. well before moving across the Potomac from Alexandria, and we knew Columbia Heights was on the verge of a renaissance. We expected nothing on the scale of what we got, though: the massive DCUSA shopping complex, the birth of a smorgasbord of upscale eateries, and an alarming number of coffeehouses.

Gentrification is a good problem for a city to have. It means that areas in economic crisis are recovering, and that the tax base is growing. That means more services and more protection against crime, resulting in a safer, happier community.

But gentrification is still a problem. When new people and businesses come in, those who were already there are marginalized, or may be forced out due to rising costs. While some of our early neighbors who owned their houses were thrilled to sell them at $600,000 or more, those who were paying rent were squeezed, and some had to abandon the neighborhood.

When Anthony Williams became mayor in 1999 after 20 years of Barry-Pratt mismanagement, the accountant mayor focused on rebuilding the D.C. economy. Eight years later, Adrian Fenty made a pitch to the those who had been hurt by the rush toward renewal, but in office, he has generally followed Williamss pro-business line.

While both mayors economic policies have been good for the city, critics rightly ask if the focus on growth has been a bit monomaniacal.

U.S. House Plan Overturning Obamacare Halfway There

A measure in the U.S. House of Representatives that would force the chamber into a new vote on Obamacare, even if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi doesn't want it, is halfway toward its needed support.

Advocates say constituents need to call their representatives to tell them to get on board right away so that the petition is positioned to move forward whether or not the GOP becomes the majority in the House after the 2010 fall elections.

The plan is a discharge petition pushed by Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa.

"Pursuant to clause 2 of rule XV, I, Steve King of Iowa, move to discharge the Committees on Energy and Commerce, Ways and Means, Education and Labor, the Judiciary, Natural Resources, Rules, House Administration, and Appropriations from the consideration of the bill (H.R. 4972) to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which was referred to said committees on March 25, 2010, in support of which motion the undersigned Members of the House of Representatives affix their signatures. …"

Its target is the $940 billion, or more, bill adopted by the Democrat-controlled Congress in March. King's measure has 109 signatures, exactly half of the 218 needed for it to move forward without hindrance.

House Minority Leader John Boehner and Minority Whip Eric Cantor, who have joined the campaign, released a statement encouraging the effort.

"Republicans are the proponents of limited government, personal responsibility, and constitutional liberties, principles which 'Obamacare' violates," said King. "Recognizing this fact, every House Republican voted against 'Obamacare' just three months ago. Now that our repeal effort has been endorsed by House GOP leadership, House Republicans should stand by their votes by signing onto discharge petition No. 11."

He said, "The American people did not want 'Obamacare' passed, and they have consistently called for their representatives to show that they stand with them by repealing the legislation. Our discharge petition provides an avenue for repeal that even Speaker Pelosi cannot block. Republicans recognize that a clean, 100 percent repeal bill is the best strategy for uprooting 'Obamacare' lock, stock and barrel, and will continue to show their commitment to 'Obamacare's' repeal by quickly signing our discharge petition."

Congressional officials said Pelosi, an adamant advocate for government-controlled health care, never would allow a vote on a plan to overturn Obamacare. But through the discharge petition process in the House, if a majority of members sign on, she cannot stop it.

The fact that support is required from 218 members also means any plan thus endorsed likely would pass the 435-member House.

GOP leaders want all party members to be on board – as they all voted against Obamacare. Also, Democrats that also opposed the narrowly approved plan are being asked to participate.

An inside congressional source told WND the pressure also will be on all other members as the November 2010 elections approach, since poll after poll has indicated a significant majority of Americans dislike Obamacare to the point of seeking its repeal.

"Kick the Ball, Charlie Brown"

People who remember the old comic strip "Peanuts" will recall an often repeated situation where Lucy offers to hold a football for Charlie Brown to kick. Then, as Charlie coming running up to kick it, Lucy snatches away the ball and Charlie Brown loses his balance and goes crashing on his backside.

The reason this same scene remained funny, despite how often it was repeated, is that in the later repetitions Charlie Brown would express suspicion at Lucy, recalling how she had tricked him before. She would then come up with some claim that she wasn't going to do that any more-- and of course she did.

There is a similar routine that has been repeated many times in Washington, over the years, with the Democrats playing Lucy and Republicans playing Charlie Brown.

It goes like this: Democrats start spending money wildly, handing out goodies to a wide range of people who they want to vote for them, while Republicans complain about deficits and the national debt. Then, when the public becomes alarmed about the debts that are piling up, the Democrats get the Republicans to vote for higher taxes to deal with the debt crisis, in the name of "fiscal responsibility."

Sometimes the deal is sweetened by the Democrats promising to make spending cuts if the Republicans vote for higher taxes, so that there can be one of those "bipartisan" solutions so beloved by the media. But, after the Republicans vote for the tax increases, and come running up to find the spending cuts, the Democrats snatch away the spending cuts and the Republicans fall right on their backsides, just like Charlie Brown.

This old trick is now being unveiled by the Obama administration, like so many other old political tricks used in this "change" administration.

In one of President Obama's many prissy little sermonettes, complete with finger wagging, he has declared: "Next year when I start presenting some very difficult choices to the country, I hope some of these folks who are hollering about deficits step up. Because I'm calling their bluff."

There is already a bipartisan commission set to provide political cover for the Democrats' wild spending that has increased the national debt from 63 percent of the country's Gross Domestic Product in 2004 to 83 percent in 2009-- and official estimates of more than 90 percent this year, with more increases in sight.

Why Republicans join such transparent attempts to rescue the Democrats from the political consequences of their own actions is one of the many unsolved mysteries of human nature in general and the Republican Party in particular.

More from Dr. Thomas Sowell

The Obama Tax Trap

(And how some Republicans are preparing to walk right into it.)

"Next year when I start presenting some very difficult choices to the country, I hope some of these folks who are hollering about deficits step up. Because I'm calling their bluff."

That was President Barack Obama, the heretofore unknown deficit hawk, all but announcing the other day the tax trap that he's been laying for Republicans. From what we hear about intra-GOP debates, more than a few will be happy to walk right into it.

You don't need a Mensa IQ to figure this one out. Mr. Obama's plan has been to increase spending to new, and what he hopes will be permanent, heights. Then as the public and financial markets begin to fret about deficits and debt, he'll claim that the debt is "unsustainable" and that the only "responsible" policy is to raise taxes.

White House officials even talk privately about the galvanizing political benefit of a bond market crisis, which would force panicked Members of Congress to accept a big new value-added tax. The President's two looming tax reports—one from his deficit commission and the other from Paul Volcker's economic advisory group—are intended to propose a VAT and other tax options. Whatever their initial reception, the proposals will be there to be pulled from the shelf when the political moment is right.

Voila, Mr. Obama will have established a new spend-and-tax policy architecture that has the feds taking from 25% to 30% of GDP, up from the roughly 21% modern average.

This strategy explains why Mr. Obama is now starting to fret in public about deficits and debt. This week he even said reducing the debt will be "our project." Funny how debt seemed a lower priority when he was urging Congress to pass $862 billion in stimulus and $1 trillion in new health-care subsidies.

The Congressional Budget Office is contributing to this political drama by declaring this week that the "federal budget is on an unsustainable path." Of course, but why? The biggest reason is that Medicare and Medicaid keep rising at two to three times the rate of everything else in the economy and, as CBO explains, will eventually take up every dollar of tax revenues raised, leaving no money for anything else, including national defense.

"Slowing the growth rate of outlays for Medicare and Medicaid," advises CBO, "is the central long term challenge for federal fiscal policy." This is the same CBO that blessed ObamaCare's Medicaid expansion to 16 million more recipients.

We think the last thing the U.S. economy needs at the moment—and the worst policy for the deficit—is the big tax increase that will hit on January 1 with the expiration of the Bush tax cuts.

Yet we hear that even many Republicans are privately insisting that any extension of those Bush tax cuts must be "paid for" with other tax increases. Under Congress's perverse budget rules, extending those tax cuts will "cost" the Treasury revenue, even though extending those tax rates would only prevent a tax increase.

And because Congress still uses static revenue scoring—meaning no change in economic behavior from tax changes—the Joint Tax Committee thinks it will raise nearly $1 trillion over 10 years from the higher tax rates on incomes, dividends and capital gains. That's highly improbable. After those tax rates were cut in 2003, total federal tax revenue increased by 44%, or $743 billion, from 2003-2007.

In other words, Democrats have rigged the rules so that merely stopping a tax increase will be scored to increase the deficit. These are the same Democrats who haven't "paid for" trillions of spending in the last four years, but watch them soon denounce Republicans as fiscally irresponsible merely for trying to stop a tax increase. Orwell would love modern Washington.

If Republicans go along with this perverse pay-as-you-go logic, they will play into Mr. Obama's hands. He'll gladly offer to raise taxes on the wealthy in order to "pay for" extending the lower Bush rates on the middle class. Never mind that the tax increases on capital gains, dividends and income tax rates will do the most economic harm.

Illegal Immigrants Don’t Drain Resources, League Of Women Voters Says, But Others Disagree

Illegal immigrants are not a threat to the local labor force since they take the less desirable, lower-paying jobs, says a report by the Anne Arundel County League of Women Voters, which supports "a path to citizenship."

Most are paid minimum wage and they do not get benefits. Illegal immigrants have opened a number of new businesses that benefit the local economy.

Illegal immigrants pay their share of taxes in the form of property, auto, sales, tobacco, alcohol and utility taxes. The report found that they “are not heavily subsidized by the native-born population.” Groups such as Help Save Maryland, which opposes illegal immigration and want stricter enforcement of immigration laws, say the league conclusions are "bogus."

Hizbullah Holing Up Near Schools, Hospitals Again

Hizbullah is placing military positions, weapons and explosive charges next to schools and hospitals in southern Lebanon, a senior IDF source said Wednesday. The IDF may have to take action against these targets in case of hostilities with Hizbullah, and has said as much to the UN force in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL).

An officer in the IDF Northern Command said that Hizbullah is digging tunnels, preparing communications infrastructure and making other preparations for war. Hizbullah has about 40,000 rockets and about 10,000 militiamen scattered in about 160 villages in southern Lebanon.

Inside each of these villages, the terror militia has an infrastructure that includes weapons, control centers, mines and other explosives, all of which are located very short distances away from population centers, schools and hospitals.

IDF sources gave conflicting estimates regarding Hizbullah's warlike intentions. While one source said the militia is not showing signs that it is about to attack, the Commander of the Regional Brigade in northern Israel, Col. Ronen Morali, said Hizbullah is steadily inching toward the Israeli border. “The organization has the will to penetrate and mount an attack, against communities and against IDF soldiers,” Morali said. “It is clear that the Hizbullah organization wants to carry out a terror strike or a penetration, beyond the use of gunfire, light arms or rockets.”

Morali said that the IDF is working in full cooperation with UNIFIL and that the UN soldiers have increased their presence and “are doing a good job.” The Lebanese Army has also deployed three brigades in southern Lebanon in order to improve its control over the region, he said.

A favored tactic of terror militias Hamas and Hizbullah is to attack Israel from within population centers, thus luring Israeli forces into inadvertently causing civilian casualties among the Arab noncombatants. Macabre photographs of dead children are then circulated in the world as proof of Israel's supposed inhumanity.

TROOPERS IN THE AIR CAN BE JUST AS BUSY AS TROOPERS ON THE GROUND

(Frederick, MD) – When some people see a Maryland State Police helicopter in the air, they might think the crew is peacefully flying above the frenetic fray of life as a patrol trooper, but often, State Police helicopter crews are moving from call to call just like their fellow troopers on the ground.

The rapid pace of a day in the life of a helicopter crew was demonstrated yesterday by the crew of Trooper 3, based in Frederick. Just before 10:00 a.m. yesterday, Trooper First Class Greg Lantz, a flight paramedic assigned to Trooper 3, was at the Frederick hangar when he monitored a police radio call for a serious motor vehicle crash in Libertytown. Based on his experience, TFC Lantz could tell responding medics would likely need a helicopter transport of the critically injured victim. He notified State Police Pilot Russ Zullick and the two were in the aircraft and ready to fly when the call came in minutes later.

After lifting off from the crash scene in Libertytown, Pilot Zullick headed across Central Maryland towards the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center while TFC Lantz provided emergency medical care to the patient in the back of the aircraft. While caring for the patient, TFC Lantz was also monitoring the radio and communicating with Pilot Zullick.

Moments before landing at Shock Trauma in Baltimore, TFC Lantz heard a police radio broadcast for an armed robbery and a police pursuit that was occurring in Montgomery County. Knowing the helicopter could provide vital police assistance, TFC Lantz notified his pilot and staff at Shock Trauma that they would be doing an immediate turnaround. Before the off-loaded patient’s stretcher had reached the elevator doors at the Shock Trauma helipad, Trooper 3 was lifting off and heading to Montgomery County.

Within minutes, TFC Lantz was actively monitoring the on-going police pursuit and was providing information to the crew of State Police helicopter Trooper 2, which had been dispatched from Southern Maryland to assist. As they approached the scene in Montgomery County, TFC Lantz learned a shooting had occurred and a person was wounded.

Pilot Zullick landed Trooper 3 at the scene and TFC Lantz provided medical assistance along with the ambulance crew already on the scene. After completing a delicate and critical medical procedure, TFC Lantz radioed that Trooper 3 would be transporting the person with the gunshot wound to Shock Trauma. A medic from Montgomery County joined the crew of Trooper 3 for the flight to Baltimore and helped care for the patient. Less than an hour after delivering their first patient to Shock Trauma, the crew of Trooper 3 was landing again with their second patient of the day.

“The missions Trooper 3 were involved in during just a short period of time yesterday exemplify the versatility of our multi-mission aircraft, as well as the important support our helicopter crews provide to first responders on the ground,” Major A. J. McAndrew, Commander of the Maryland State Police Aviation Command said. “The expertise of our helicopter crews enables them to readily switch roles from providing aerial surveillance support to providing rescue services, emergency medical care, and aerial medical evacuation without missing a beat, or more importantly, wasting precious minutes which can be so important to a critically injured person’s survival.”

INSTALLATION BEGINS ON NEW ‘HIGH-TECH’ FLOOR AT WICOMICO YOUTH & CIVIC CENTER’S NORMANDY ARENA

Delegate Norman H. Conway and County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr., welcomed elected officials and interested citizens to a “floor-breaking” ceremony today in the Normandy Arena of the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center. The floor replacement is scheduled for completion in early September.

The floor replacement, budgeted at $540,000, is one part of a $2 Million WY&CC restoration project. According to Director Gary Mackes, the new floor will be much more “event-friendly” than the existing one and will greatly enhance the arena’s marketing appeal for groups staging trade shows, concerts, conventions, etc. The new floor will feature 27 utility boxes in a concrete surface. Besides electricity, floor users will have access to potable water and communications cables. Mackes emphasized that “the days of wires crisscrossing the arena floor are over.”

County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr., said, “Preserving and improving the viability of the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center has been a major goal of my administration. The WY&CC is truly an economic engine for the county contributing some $11.6 Million per year to the economy of Wicomico County. We must keep it competitive. The installation of the new floor does that. As is so often the case, Delegate Norm Conway is responsible for securing a large portion of the funding for the new floor. I salute him as he continues to fight for us and our economy on the state level.”

Among other improvements in the overall WY&CC restoration project are new parking lot lights, roof and masonry repairs, HVAC replacement, new video and scoreboard equipment and basketball floor replacement. Funding for the overall project is from state and county bond issues not from the county General Fund. Debt service will be paid from hotel and admission taxes.

Bob Ehrlich Announces Formation Of Commuters For Ehrlich

Bus, Rail, and Metro Riders join with Drivers to Seek Better Transit

Bob Ehrlich
announced today the creation of “Commuters for Ehrlich,” a coalition of Marylanders who believe Bob Ehrlich can fix the problems besetting Maryland’s transportation infrastructure.

The coalition will be chaired by Craig Borne, a Baltimore County resident. Craig, who is blind, regularly experiences delays, broken down trains, and generally poor service on his daily commute to work on the MARC system. A video interview with Craig is linked here.

The Coalition’s creation follows widely reported MARC service failures resulting in unacceptable hardship for Marylanders seeking to get to and from work every day, but Ehrlich emphasized that his interest in better transportation long precedes the recent problems.

“Marylanders spend a lot of time and resources getting to their jobs and their schools. They ought to get their money’s worth. ” Ehrlich said. “We need our transit system and our roads to be safe, reliable, and efficient for transit riders, drivers and cyclists. I am honored that Craig has agreed to chair this coalition. Like thousands of Marylanders, Craig relies on our transportation system during a very difficult economy, yet has experienced far too many disappointments. This coalition will help raise awareness about the need for real progress in Maryland and offer me a vital source of citizen input on how to fix a broken transportation system. School Readiness Fair
Pemberton Elementary School

Families with children ages 0-5 can learn more about early childhood education and expectations July 16 at the 3rd Annual School Readiness Fair, put on by the Wicomico County Public Schools.

The School Readiness Fair, a cooperative effort by the Wicomico County Board of Education and the Judy Center Partnership, will take place from 4-7 p.m. Friday, July 16, at Pemberton Elementary. This free event for young children and their families will showcase the many aspects of early childhood education and services available in the community, and will help parents and guardians ensure that their child is ready to get a good start on school.

Children will have the opportunity to meet Buster the School Bus, who will guide them through the basics of school bus safety. They'll also get to board a school bus and talk with the driver. Inside the School Readiness Fair, they'll be able to meet principals and assistant principals from Wicomico elementary schools, and pick up free learning materials to take home.

Parents will be able to visit tables with information on child care centers, child care providers, the Lower Shore Child Care Resource Center, Head Start, the Judy Center (serving children in the Beaver Run and Pemberton school districts), Wicomico County Library and the Wicomico County Health Department, which will have information on programs and immunizations.

Families who have not registered for prekindergarten or kindergarten will have the chance to do so. Door prizes, dinner, crafts will also be provided. Participants in this year's fair will be treated to a performance by the school system's band, the Edge-ucators, featuring Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Fredericksen and other school system employees.

Community agencies that would like to participate in the event should contact Sandra Drummond to register at 410-677-4580. To ensure that materials are in adequate supply, families wishing to attend the event should also contact Drummond at this number to sign up.

Final Opportunity to Walk Through Old JMB, Preview Auction Items
Old James M. Bennett High School

The Wicomico County Board of Education will offer alumni (and their guests) of James M. Bennett High School a final opportunity to walk through the old school from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, July 8. Those interested in walking through old JMB one last time are advised to dress for a very warm building, thanks to the heat wave and the lack of air conditioning in the building (doors will be open and fans will be running to make old JMB as comfortable as possible, but it will be hot). Water will be available at drinking fountains, or tour attendees may bring their own water bottle.

The school year ended at old JMB on June 11, and since then teachers and staff members have moved to the new JMB in preparation for its opening on Aug. 30. The school system has collected surplus equipment and furniture from the building and from other locations for the school system auction that will be held at old JMB starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 10.

Those who take the tour will have the chance to preview the auction items, located mostly in the gym, cafeteria, hallways and some classrooms such as shop. (A list of auction items is now posted in Top Stories at www.wcboe.org.)

The July 8 tour will be the last opportunity for former JMB students and guests to walk through the building; it will be closed in preparation for demolition later this year. Anyone wanting to share a JMB memory may send their thoughts to comments@wcboe.org or leave a message in the voicemail box at 410-677-5251.

Fisher Divorce Included Drug, Abuse Charges

Maryland congressional candidate Rob Fisher's campaign is denying a decades-old allegation that he used hard drugs and physically attacked his ex-wife.

In a 1991 divorce case, Fisher's former spouse charged that the Republican House hopeful "threw me up against the wall and grabbed me by the neck" and later "ripped the bathroom door off" after she tried to hide, according to court documents obtained by POLITICO.

She also testified that Fisher had been drinking at the time of the incident and "had a problem with drinking and drugs. ... As far as I know he did cocaine twice in front of me and I knew he did crack. I know he smokes marijuana," she told the court, adding that his substance abuse "provoked a lot of fights."

Fisher spokesman Demetrios Karoutsos told POLITICO that the allegations were false, denying that the incident Fisher's former wife described ever took place and stating that the divorce was settled amicably. Fisher's ex-wife could not be reached for comment; the Virginia attorney who represented her, Harvey Perritt Jr., could not be reached either, his son said Wednesday.

Fisher is challenging state Sen. Andy Harris in the Republican primary for vulnerable Democratic Rep. Frank Kratovil's district. Karoutsos blamed the Harris campaign for pushing the story about Fisher's divorce, calling it "disgusting and despicable that our opponents are hurling baseless and untrue allegations in order to distract voters from the real issues."
