A Letter To The Editor

Joe,

I'm sitting here watching the Salisbury City Council meeting. Where do I start?  Shields seriously needs to think about going to school to learn how to speak English.  In the beginning as they were going over accepting the agenda for the evening she clearly made several comments that were not what I would expect to hear a council person say.  In English when I hear the word "day" I know the meaning of the word.  When I hear it in the sentence that she used "da would".  Can't she say they?  Go back to what I originally said about her needing to go to school, not "back to school."

I love how Shields felt the need to make a big deal out of how many Appeals there are today and last year compared to three years ago.  Loved how Cohen corrected her on the one issue on the same topic.

$50,000 Grant  resolution 19-98:  Mr Trader, I love you!!  All of those people who have complained over the past week about the fire boat and he's the only one who spoke up (so far) during this topic.  So now this money will go towards the new vessel project instead of equipment as it originally was worded.  Makes me sick!  This is grant money, coming from us taxpayers!  Thank you Debbie for speaking up against this project!!!  Gary's living in a world only he understands.  Replacing a used fishing boat with one designed to do the work.  Did he just say the Federal Gov't Money handing out???  It's still taxpayers money.  He doesn't have a clue.  Go back to sleep Gary.  We know how much you support this, you want to go fishing next summer.  OMG Shields is speaking about fire dept procedures.  OMG everything she just mentioned is able to be reached by the trucks.  She dared to mention the WWTP in tht sentence.  Debbie, please run for mayor next time!  I love hearing you saying it's time for all to just say no to government stimulus money!!  Terry. y es Salisbury isn't taking care of their things just so they can get new toys.  I agree 100%.  Shields is speaking again, has no idea what she attended.  If you can't agree, sit and be quiet!  She only speaks up on fire dept issues.  Is she an expert?  Yes, Shields we know your supporting it.  Thank you for making it known for those out there who are sleeping.

The topic of Habitat.  Shields is so rude!  Thank you Deb for being polite about how you told her to shut up!  One of the best moments of the night (so far).  Has Gary gone to sleep now that the fire dept isn't under discussion?  I spoke too fast.  Go back to sleep Gary.  Oh no, Shields is speaking again about a property on Main St., not the one under discussion.  Go to school Shields!  Since the three-some passed it now anyone can claim they can't pay something and get away with it.  Great job three-some.

Public Comments:

Mr. Trader, amen!

Mr. Dishroom, amen!  Oh my, asking what the city owes.  They will never tell you, if so it will be a huge lie!  Amen about the vessel!

Ms. Adams, you go girl!  OMG I love it "this is a city, not a kingdom" Amen!  The council needs to remember this when buying new toys!

Mr. Davis, Amen!  I love you, always have baby!  Your right about SU.  Last year the Lions Club banquet was held there since it was the cheapest place in town for this crowd.

Mr. Albero, AMEN!  I'm waiting to hear the gavel being pounded with screaming from that direction of her closing the meeting down.  Love ya Joe, thanks for speaking up.  I'm surprised there weren't more people there to speak.  Thank you for standing up about bullying!  Now the gavel over the little boy, the mayor.  You did a great job, as always!  Please make sure tell me what that puss of a mayor said to you as you were walking away!!  It couldn't be heard on tv.

Editors Notes: I couldn't tell you what the Mayor said, I just didn't like the fact that he said something AFTER I was walking away and my back was to him. I did stop to ask and when he mumbled again I stated he may get away with that with women but he won't get away with it with me.

The next thing I knew, when I left the GOB a Police Officer pulled up while several of us were holding a conversation with Councilwoman Terry Cohen and asked us what we were doing. He told us he had received a complaint and wanted us to move on. Then another Officer pulled up and  Ireton was escorted to his vehicle.

  2. If Ireton bully's women, how does he treat his students? I hadn't thought about it until today when I read the letter to the lady about her hubby. Does he send letters to parents telling them to get his students under control or does he try to bully the students himself? I have no idea what the age group of his students are. If I were a parent I'd question my child about him.

  3. It was nice to see our new police chief in uniform.

I wasn't sure what the photo op was for with the fire department.

  4. Did you miss Stewart Davis speaking on behalf of the taxpayers and why not to sell the firehouse. I thought what he said made a lot of sence. We will be back again when it is put on the agenda.
Oh the firehouse is deteriating..shanie said there was a cracked piece of glass. I guess this is why we are selling the building for 100...it has a peice of cracked glass...

  6. 10:14, it had something to do with those life packs for jump starting hearts. Either they got a grant or the volleys donated them.

Joe, there was a suttle moment in the meeting tonight. Louise Smith, speaking of bullies, tried to "move it along" on Terry Cohen, who was trying to come with a compromise on those zoning appeal ad fees. It was more important to her Royal Highness Smith to movie it along than to get something good.

Terry worked with Paul Wilber to get the wording right and in the right place, proving she and Wilber can work together, unlike Smith who only works with her chosen.

If Wilber hadn't worked on it, Smith was going to ram through what she and her cronies wanted. Smith sure wasn't going to give Terry a second.

This is one time I'll tip my hat to Paul Wilber and Terry Cohen once again proved she's a class act. The two of them saved the taxpayers a boatload of money by not letting Smith ram through what she wanted. Even Comegys went along with it.

Too bad the boatload saved got blown on a boatload of boat toy for the SFD.

  7. My child was a student of his and according to my child Ireton acts like one of the kids when he is mad and is very defensive like he didnt get his way. I also hear he likes to sag his pants and prance around mocking black students saying "Jim's in da house" How sad that he is the man making decisions for all of us.

  8. The fire photo op was for Louise's campaign. Didn't you notice how they started off trying to take it without the others.

  9. joe, ive been telling them the truth about the fireboat for months. i might just as well talk to the wall. they will get the boat no doubt. they will also look like fools if they think they can be first resonders on the entire southern portion of the chesapeake bay. i paid almost $200.00 to get the paper work on the grant for that boat so i know what im talking about.
the new fire chief is clueless about it too. one more boon doogle at our expense. thanks sjd

  10. Ugh, reading stuff like this sickens me. Salisbury is falling apart piece by piece. What ever happened to the Salisbury that I loved and the people who called the shots back then?????? Those that are ruining, oops, running the city ought to be ashamed of themselves. "day don't seem to be too smart" Salisbury, wake up and restore some dignity to what used to be a great little city. jackkcharl@aol.com

If you are concerned about how Ireton treats his students then ask the Board of Education! Ask his principal! Ask the parents of his students!

Personally from what I have seen from him as a Mayor I am appalled by his actions and believe he shouldn't have any contact with children in the school system. Please write letters to the Superintendent and the Board Members. His actions may be a warning sign and what we have seen from him is detrimental to the well being of the students!!

    10:58 PM

The life packs for jump starting hearts you are talking about are AED's(Automatic External Defibrillators). They did not get a grant for these AED's because of poor leadership within the fire department. There are grants available for all fire and EMS departments in the state of Maryland. The current AED's were purchased through grant funding.

I don't know what the big photo op was about? Because the Volunteers donated them? Where did the volunteers get money from? Oh that's right it came from the County funding. Where did the County funding come from? Oh that's right from the tax payers!! Just another smoke and mirrors gimmick from Bubba, Gordo and Hoppes!!

  14. Mr. Ireton is a fine teacher. Mayor Ireton needs to get some thicker skin and not react to Louise's bad behavior. She has been baiting him for months and rather than learning her tricks and not responding, he has provided she and her handlers with a long list of ways to push his buttons. Louise Smith and her handlers are the real bullies.

  15. Ireton is a mess. One thing I disagree with you on, Joe, is that Ireton bullies Louise Smith. Underneath that sweet little old lady exterior is the real bully. How many times did gavel Barrie Tilghman? Zero. How many times does she gavel Ireton? Every time he speaks.

Worse, every time Debbie Campbell or Terry Cohen speaks, Louise Sjmith interrupts or bangs the gavel. Last night Debbie tried to use her turn to speak and Louise kept cutting her off warning her not to be repetitious. Smith is the one that repeats everything. She tried not to let Terry Cohen craft a compromise on the spot that would save taxpayers lots of money on advertising.

I agree with what you said except that. Smith bullies everyone far more than I have ever seen her bullied, and that includes our fly-off-the-handle mayor.

If he is such a fine teacher then why did his principal have him transferred? Quit taking up for this idiot, it is not just Louis Smith who is making him act the way he is. Joe and numerous others have a running list of his major faults for this one term Mayor!!

  17. Being a bully requires someone being scared of you. No one is scared of any of the puppetiers at the meeting. Ireton is a moron plain and simple, and Louise is just as clueless as anyone. These idiots are half the reason, scratch that, 3/4 the reason that Salisbury is becoming a place where ppl do not want to live. Let me give a hand to these guys, infact we all should for their display of immatuirty and stupidity. Way to go clowns, you just missed the circus maybe if you hurry you guys can catch it.

  18. Tilghman, Salisbury's other/previous dictator, took away the rights of businesses to vote on city matters, even though they operate in city, they own property in city and they pay tax to the city on either their businesses or property or both.
I say it's High Time to repeal this taxation without representation!

  19. My two or three cents:

1, people aught to stop knocking Ireton as a teacher from behind their anonymous keyboards. Separate the mayor from the man. Otherwise you are just doing character assasination and trying to destroy someone's livelihood without knowing jack about what you are talking about. You got a student with him and you're concerned? Then act like a real parent, observe the classroom, talk to your kid and see his supervisor if necessary. I dislike Ireton as a mayor but this out to get him personal stuff is real sickening.

2, Stewart Davis is my new hero. Maybe he and Joe can organize a Save the Firehouse Rally or something. A big showing by the people might scare the three boobs into thinking again about how they treat a historic place that people are so attached to. But you got to prove you're attached to it. MR. Davis spoke with passion. I can't speak for squat, but I'd attend a rally to show my support. My great uncle was a fireman and I'd do it in his memory even though I don't live in the city. The city aught to keep it.

"Tilghman, Salisbury's other/previous dictator, took away the rights of businesses to vote on city matters,"

Wrong -- they did away with voting by non-resident property owners long before Barrie became the mayor. It was the ACLU that lead the charge (along with Robin Cockey, as I recall).

  23. Gordo and his petroleum buddies on the river have gotten their tax breaks now that the fire boat is coming. That's what this issue is really about. And Bubba has helped out his buddy Gordo again, at our expense.
