What gets me about these firehouse and fire boat ripoffs is, the new fire chief isn't even sworn in yet. What is he doing advancing anything before he takes the oath of his position? He shouldn't be buying a thing or making any personnel changes until he's got the lay of the land and got sworn in!
I don't know this new fire chief and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but come on. What kind of leader makes sweeping deals like this right out of the gate? And when I asked myself that question, it hit me!!!!
It's not the new fire chief, it's the mayor! Why does Ireton want to shove all this through so fast? Did he make a deal with Gary Comegys? Does he simply not know what's going on with his own fire department, so Gordy and Hoppes can get their last goodies in before the new chief finds out? Did Ireton order the unsworn new fire chief to present all this? I know the guy will be sworn in by the time this comes for official vote, but you have to admit, this stinks like a full litter box in July. I know the firehouse giveaway is really out of that department's hands, so that's on the mayor and council's head. But I can't believe somebody brand new in the job wouldn't assert his authority to put a hold on the fire boat mess until he was fully sworn and comfortable in the seat.
Unless of course he doesn't have the authority and this rape of the taxpayers is being forced from higher up.
The new fire chief is totally clueless as a leader. He has never been the boss and he is doing just what he is told so he can keep a title to pad his resume. This guy should never have been hired and the city was stupid and ignorant for hiring him. Gordy and Hoppes still run the show with the blessing of Liarton and Comegys.
ReplyDeleteThe best thing the Mayor could do is kick Simpson to the curb before the swearing in tonight. That man is already wasting thousands of dollars in tax money.
ReplyDeleteSome people missed the point of the post.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is the mayor, not the new guy. Still letting the old guard run amuck.
How can they continue to find "grant" money for the firehouse to buy things they "might" need, yet they can't seem to find a dime to help the police force get things they DO need. You always hear about this one or that one got a grant and most of the time is for things that are NOT needed. Things that are really needed they don't give out grants for.
ReplyDeleteIf the Federal grants arent sought, the money will go elsewhere. If Washington is going to print and give away money, then why not get our fair share, or as much as possible?
ReplyDeleteThis is politics brought down to a local level by well connected people. We should all be grateful for what we are getting from the Federal Government.

You my friend are an idiot. Our fair share?" Nothing is free and what you claim as our fair share comes at a cost. This fire boat is not needed as their has never been a fire on the river that required the use of a fire boat. What the city has now is adequate. A rapid response vessel? What a joke. I don't pay taxes so the Salisbury firefighters can respond rapidly to somewhere out of the fire district. For every person including the Mayor who votes for and supports the fire boat I will pay the maximum contribution to a quality candidate to oppose them in the next election. Remember the Tea Party!! Enough is enough.
