O'Donnell To Address D.C. Gathering

In a surprise move, Christine O'Donnell will make her Washington debut as the new Republican Senate candidate from Delaware at this weekend's Values Voter Summit, the nation's biggest annual gathering of religious and social conservatives.

The nominee who stunned her party and the political world by upsetting longtime Rep. Michael N. Castle in the Tuesday primary joins a long list of GOP stars, including a slew of potential 2012 GOP presidential-nomination hopefuls, at an event that drew nearly 2,000 people last year.

Vilified by leading establishment Republicans in Delaware and Washington, Ms. O'Donnell benefited from the backing of "tea party" activists and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to fashion the upset. After the bitter primary battle, Mr. Castle's campaign has said he will not endorse her in the general election.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee and its chairman, Texas Sen. John Cornyn, at first greeted the result with barely disguised disappointment. But Mr. Cornyn quickly reversed course, promising to give the O'Donnell campaign the maximum legal donation of $42,000 in the general election race against the Democratic nominee, New Castle County Executive Chris Coons.

Leading GOP conservatives scheduled to address the summit include former House Speaker Newt Gingrich; Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina; Sen. James M. Inhofe of Oklahoma; Gov. Bob McDonnell of Virginia; former Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas; former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts; Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana; Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota; and Eagle Forum President Phyllis Schlafly.

  1. Someone should teach her to read before she goes to talk.

  2. The first thing she should read is Coons article "The Bearded Marxist" where he admits to being far left and then read his campaign pledge to not raise taxes which he promtply broke just like every LIBERAL LEFTIST DEMOCRAT POLITICIAN. Keep slinging the mud at Christine, it just makes us more determined to get her elected.

  3. I'm a republican, my whole family is- we are at least 15 strong between immediate and extended family. We were all going to vote Castle, now we will all vote Coons.

I dont trust this broad as far as I can throw her.

  7. Like you could trust Castle, 10:39?
Sounds like you're more a Democrat than a Republican, but consider this--
She knows she messed up, and I think she's learned from it. What counts at this point is what she will do from here on out.
    I think she's a good bet.

  10. She beat Castle who many said could not be beat. I know she will beat Coons. The only Coons that might have a chance against her would be car babe Crystal Koons. Get ready for Senator O' Donnell, she's a winner.

  11. The so-called "Bearded Marxist" was in college when he wrote that.

Also note, he was a founding member of his school's College Republicans he campaigned for Reagan and Roth.

Maybe some of you need a life-transforming event to get a grip on reality.

    Now he's a mature adult who's a county executive.

I don't really care what he did at 21. Considering what some of you did at 21, it sounds like Coons has a far better head on his shoulders.

  15. 12:49 I believe it's the left wing loons who want us to be Sharia compliant.

  16. No, 2:10-- we don't have a "national religion".
That's what the First amendment is all about.
And nobody is trying to force it on anybody.
But there is a basic morality that arises out of nearly all the world's religions, and THAT is what many want us to return to.
If anybody is 'forcing' anything on anybody, it's the liberal left, who have made a religion out of their Marxist Utopia fantasy.

  17. 1:36 You don't care what Coons did at 21 but what O'Donnell did at 21 ( and it wasn't saying she was Marxist) is front page news on every MSM channel. Coons lied to get elected, and that is a fact. If you want higher taxes and more Government control of every aspect of your life go ahead and vote another liberal, who is Harry reids "PET" into office. A vote for COons is a vote for the Pelosit/Reid agenda no matter how much you want to deny it.

  20. Christine O'Donnell stated over and over before and after she was elected that she could barely get by and used campaign funds just to survive and to me that makes her alot more human and in touch with the current economic crisis that I see EVERYBODY going through. If I were trying to support my wife, my kids and a hold onto my home, I would have done the exact same thing. The wealthy elitist at the top of the political food chain couldn't care less if you and your family are starving because they've already got theirs and have no intent to share a cent. They lip service suckers that buy their lies, have been doing so for decades and continue today. look at the overnight Republican shift on O'Donnell. And the Coons of the world all happy? More lies, because they know the truth, hard working Americans finally have a real voice, they might have to play ball with entrenched liars, but if they get in, theirs gonna be change, no more business as usual. No more Obama, Pelosi, Castle, Biden, Conns agenda that has our country in the gutter. I'm fed up with the whole pack of self serving, wealthy liars and I want change regardless of who brings it. O'Donnell a scholar? Not close but the platforn she represents is the 10 point pledge of the Tea Party and I think they've got a good start with getting it right. Read the wikipedia Tea Party pledge that each canidate makes. I'm taking my chances with them right to the end good and bad all the way because I'm fed up with the status quo. A collective, self serving group of liars holding onto their millions while I watch people like myself do without, every day. Honest people, more than willing to work, but can't get work. Reasons? Walmart/China/Big Business overseas Profits due to cheap labor yet they're American Corporations/Did you talk to your Verizon operator today? In India?/Or get your computer from China or India?/Those are American jobs that were stolen from that rotten free trade agreement years ago/ I'm for trade barriers/Heavy import duties/If your an American Corp based here for your free tax ride, then every product you make should be made by Americans, otherwise get out. We'll live without your junk. I'd rather pay double for the junk that I choose to buy than send my money to India or China, who hates our stinkin guts and would kill every one of us if they thought it was possible. I'm a registed Dem and all of my toggles will be Tea because I've finally figured out the truth about both parties.
