Don't Believe The Hype
What happens when a politician doesn't have a record to run on? He makes false, negative attacks against his opponent.
Unfortunately, Politician Frank Kratovil has done that to Andy Harris.
Frank Kratovil has no record to run on. He's voted 85% of the time with Nancy Pelosi and he's hiding from that. He's hiding from the radical energy tax that he voted for. He's hiding from the rising unemployment rate in Maryland's First District. Frank Kratovil is even hiding from his own party!
To cover for his lack of a record, Frank Kratovil has launched a false, negative attack against Andy Harris. The independent site, factcheck.org, calls this line of attack "misleading" and "false," explaining the proposal would "repeal the federal income tax entirely and do away with the Internal Revenue Service. It would also eliminate gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare and self-employment taxes."
Here are the facts on Andy Harris's record:
Andy Harris signed a pledge 12 years ago not to raise taxes and he's kept his word.
Andy Harris supports lower, fairer taxes
Andy Harris has consistently voted against proposed tax increases in the Maryland state Senate and will do so as a Member of Congress.
Andy Harris has a proven record of fighting against wasteful government spending and has taken a no-earmarks pledge.
Andy Harris's first vote in Congress will be to fire Nancy Pelosi.
Frank Kratovil should take a look at his own record. Kratovil voted for the Cap and Trade Energy Tax, which would demolish the agriculture industries, kill jobs, and raise taxes $1,600 per year for every single household in the First District.
Here are the facts on Frank Kratovil's Energy Tax:
Democratic Congressman John Dingell said that "Cap and Trade is a tax, and it's a great big one." ("Dingell: cap and trade a "great big" tax," Politico, April 27, 2009)
The Wall Street Journal said "Americans should know that those Members who vote for this climate bill are voting for what is likely to be the biggest tax in American history. Even Democrats can't repeal that reality." (Editorial, "The Cap and Tax Fiction," The Wall Street Journal, June 26, 2009)
Warren Buffett said on CNBC, "I think if you get into the way it was written, it's a huge tax and there's no sense calling it anything else. I mean, it is a tax. And it's a fairly regressive tax." ("Warren Buffett's Live Lunch Interview on CNBC," CNBC Website, June 24, 2009)
The Congressional Budget Office estimates the tax would be a $1,600 per year cost increase for households. ("Cap-and-Trade: All Cost, No Benefit," Washington Post, June 1, 2009).
The choice in this election is clear. Andy Harris is the kind of leader we need - Frank Kratovil has shown his true colors as just another politician.
Just saw an ad where 2 Salisbury attorneys are accusing Harris of wanting to have a huge sales tax -- what's that all about and who are they?
ReplyDeleteI don't want a leader who sits back and promises to never raise taxes, because that's a leader too foolish to see how his views may have to change to conform to desperate times. That's a leader who panders to the masses.
ReplyDeleteI want to elect someone who IS willing to make the tough decisions, like saying: folks, our past leaders were fiscal mismanagers, and now we do need to raise taxes, this will help everyone.
Do I want higher taxes? Of course not. But I want someone in that role who's willing to make the tough call instead of hiding behind false promises and silly pledges not worth the paper upon which they're printed!
It's a flat-out lie. Harris never said that. He said he MIGHT favor a VAT or flat tax if all other taxes were abolished.
ReplyDeleteThis Kratovil money stinking up the air to cover up his lackluster record. What liars.
For those that might be interested the tax schema that Frank Kratovil is distorting to accuse Andy Harris of wanting raze taxes is the FairTax. The Fairtax replaces the income tax as explained in Joe's post, it is not an additional tax.
