SHOREBIRDS WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT, 3-0 OVER WEST VIRGINIA

Jesse Beal Earns Seventh Win in Seven Dominant Innings

Salisbury, Md.
– The Delmarva Shorebirds used a fourth inning home run from Tyler Townsend and rode the arms of the Jesse Beal and Brian Parker to a 3-0 shutout of West Virginia in game two at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Thursday night. The last nine starters have only allowed a combined three earned runs in 54.2 innings pitched.

After three scoreless innings, Tyler Townsend hit his first home run of the season over the left field wall to give the ‘Birds a 1-0 cushion. It was his fifth career Minor League Baseball homer.

Jesse Beal (7-5) only needed the one run. He struck out five and walked just one in seven dominant innings. The Power managed only three hits against him.

The Shorebirds plated two more runs in the seventh inning against new pitcher Gabriel Alvarado. Justin Dalles hit a lead off single to left field. Then, two batters later, Garabez Rosa hit a flare double down the right field line to push Dalles to third. After a walk to Mike Mooney, Brian Conley ripped a two-run single through the right side of the infield to give the ‘Birds a 3-0 lead.

Brian Parker entered in the eighth inning and proceeded to retire all six batters he faced to earn his first save of the season.

The Shorebirds are back in action on Friday night for game three against West Virginia at 7:05 p.m. RHP Patrick Kantakevich makes the start for Delmarva.
