2010 All America City Survey Question

Do You Believe Salisbury, Maryland Should Have Been
Selected

As A 2010 All America City?

50 comments:

  1. not even the Top 100th. heck, i wouldn't even rank as a top maryland city.

  2. Yes.
The award is given to cities that exemmplify "grassroots democracy and community problem solving". Apparently the projects included on the application fit that criterion.
Salisbury News could have been included if the conduct of personal vendettas helps solve problems.

  3. if your talking about top 10 in crime per person, top ten in homeless tent citys, top ten in worst city governments, top ten in not being able to name a fire chief, top ten in letting gordy's thug like son get away with what ever he wants, yeah salisbury is a top ten city

  4. not even close - not even the Eastern Shore's best. This is one of the biggest jokes in memory

  5. This contest reminds me of that in school that could fold his eye lids back.

  6. Depends on what the criteria actually was. However, I don't think Salisbury deserves any kind of award.

  7. High Crime, Pathetic Education system, Grid locked local politics....Absolutley not!

  8. This seems to have upset the inbred city trash that has moved here !

    ReplyDelete
  9. 1148 am the inbred city trash was already here. Look at who you elected for a mayor.

    ReplyDelete
  10. No! This is a joke just like our mayor is.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yup right after Bugtussel, Mayberry, and Pixley

  12. 11:48am is out to lunch. I remember what this city was prior to the Barrie Tilghman administration (as I'm sure you do as well Joe). We are a shadow of that bygone era. She was too busy inside a bottle to provide the law enforcement response we needed 20 years ago to stem the tide of drugs, et al that moved in here.

  13. The city, in its application, followed the criteria set by the awarding authority. Those criteria don't directly address many of the problems we experience here.
It wasn't a Prettiest Baby contest, like some imagine or would have you think.

  14. The regulars who never have anything good to say about anything are behaving as expected.

    Well done, losers!

  15. Maybe they meant Easton

  16. This "award" is an absolute joke.

    ReplyDelete
  17. absolutely not!!!! what a joke! just like obama winning the noble peace prize...totally discredits the whole contest.

  18. No not at all! All anyone would have to do is take a walk arond town (or try to) and you can see this a town in a slow agonizing death throw. I have talked with friends who still live in town and they will not even dare go out after after dark to walk to the corner store! Downtown is dead and the much flouted industrial park area are not much more than dead buildings with little activity. A town I was once proud to live in now looks like an inner city neighborhood!!

  19. Well lets first take a look at the National Civic League.
The Mission is to strengthen democracy by increasing the capacity of our nation’s people to fully participate in and build healthy and prosperous communities across America. We are the nation’s best at the science of local government, the art of public engagement, and the celebration of the progress that can be achieved when people work together.

    Does this sound like Salisbury?
    They must be kidding.

  20. When I moved here , about 33 years ago , a black man pistol whipped my sister-in-law. He stole her station wagon with the groceries.
    Has anything changed? NO!

All American City , give me a break
Baseball , apple pie and a good ole a$$ kickin. Yeh we got it!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Absolutely! All American does mean corrupt, crime ridden, down trodden, high unemployment, low wages, in fear of going out after sunset. Heck! We're probably The 2010 All AMerican City! (all said with sarcasm for anyone dumb enough to think I'm serious)

    ReplyDelete
  22. If its such a great place to live, why does the majority of the population in wicomico county live outside of Salisbury! If my wife wants to go grocery shopping at night, I now go with her for her safety! I have been hit up for money more that once at Gordy's exxon on the corner of Rt 50 and Isabela more than once! I was also threatened at the Fruitland Walmart by homeless trying to sell me stolen jewelry last year. I have a friend who works at one of the local sporting goods stores. Did you know guns sales are up! Citizens are quietly purchasing handguns. You would be surprised! He couldn't name names, but some of them were big names in the community!

  23. Of course they won the award, anyone can win it with some creative writing skills being applied. Do you really think those that took the city funded trip to Florida told the truth about Salisbury?

The should have been given the Salisbury WAS an All American City award cause it sure isn't now.

  24. This award is NOT "The Best City in America" - it is an award designed to recognize cities that have SERIOUS problems and address those problems. Look at the other city/community winners and what kinds of situations they faced and how they addressed them. Salisbury has done a wonderful grass roots job of helping the homeless. Good God, people, try to find something positive for a change!! Instead of *itching and moaning, why not be part of the solution. Salisbury has some pretty remarkable young people who have been nurtured and grown through the Leadership Academy. Rose Street was an awful awful place to live - look at the neighborhood now - there are no magic wands, just effort by citizens who care. Salisbury earned this designation, fair and square.

  25. anonymous 3:44, give me a break, please.

Homeless! Webster and Tilghman were taking their belongings while the homeless were away and ruining their lives.

Where's the new Homeless Shelter the City built or provided???????

    ReplyDelete
  26. 3:44 --

BS -- some private groups and individuals have done things, but the City has not.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Please say this is a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Joe... why say "give me a break"???

It's an OPINION and you asked the question of if WE think SBY is an all American city.

    ReplyDelete
  29. anonymous 4:00, you stated your alleged "opinion" based on facts. I'm pointing out that I believe you're opinion is wrong. Again, I'll ask, since you use your power of suggestion, just what has the city done for the homeless? I believe I would have heard of it if they had done something for them. Where's the new homeless shelter? When did the city start providing food or even funds to help those unconditional centers that have been helping the homeless for YEARS?

I'd rather have an honest opinion than a lie.

  30. l just don't get it whY would they select Salisbury.... Easton is much nice, better, you name it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. How much was the check they sent along with the application? If someone isn't getting a kickback out of this deal I'd be shocked.

    ReplyDelete
  32. No!!

And can someone please tell us how much this cost the tax payers?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I thought this BS would end when Barrie was out of office. Ireton is a clone of the queen of mean.

    ReplyDelete
  34. No. Although the city is considered (by itself) to be The Hub of the Eastern Shore, civic engagement is lacking. It's even difficult to get word out about new candidates because people's voices are stifled. It seems like it's the establishment and patronage that run things - although the people of Salisbury may feel differently. Additionally, crime is getting worse and so are schools. While Salisbury probably isn't one of the worst, I also don't think it's one of the best.

  35. From Wiki...

"The oldest community recognition program in the nation, the award recognizes communities whose citizens work together to identify and tackle community-wide challenges and achieve uncommon results."

    haha

    ReplyDelete
  36. Who was handing out this award......the crips or the bloods?

    ReplyDelete
  37. 3:44 is smoking some good stuff...cuz that mofo is higher then clouds.

    ReplyDelete
  38. how did we get to be a city? does anyone know the qualifications. thanks sjd

    ReplyDelete
  39. What a joke! There must not of been many who entered in order for Salisbury to have been selected or there was lots of money paid to someone.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think its pretty ironic that this award is about a community coming together to help crime etc and right below this posting is a story about the MSP SPD and WCSD working TOGETHER to apprehend a SAlisbury Most wanted--- now I'm not saying we are an all american city but isn't that the point?

    ReplyDelete
  41. An earlier post stated the qualification was based on several categories. Lets lookem over.

Homelessness- Yep! we got homeless wandering all over town panhandling and leaving trash.

Obeasity- Overweight people everywhere. Mitsy Perdue does her best but the heavywieghts think it healthy to be fat.

Economic Development- This must mean the reverse, because businesses have left and nothing new is on the horizon.

    Diversity and Inclusion- WHERE ?

Low Income Housing- Over 70 % rentals and the poorest of the populous as inhabitants.A place for the criminals to hide out and rest. I guess the economic development would be the landlords.

Improved Education- Thanks to wor Wic Tech all citizens can reed and right at a third grade level.

This is the kind of city anyone would want to move to. NOT ! Salisbury,MD. R.I.P. You were once great and now your gone.

  42. I can not answer this. Let me ask the 455 victims of violent crimes. The local nimrods that run the waste water facility that dumps shit in the river daily.

Let ask Mayor "Run it's the cops" Ireton. Oh yea "Pull up your pants" Ireton. lol sorry. I know it is Father's Day and all. It slipped. oooppps there i go again. Awww suck a nevermind. The fact is the city needs big help and fast.

The ghetto scene is hidden from the passing motorist.

Do these pollsters actually come here and look. I think they sent a picture of Snow Hill in ??

I guess the answer is Hell No!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. An All America City? This coming from a mayor that refuses to appoint a good, qualified city resident to the position of fire chief? If this bogus award is more important than appointing a qualified city resident as a department head then I suggest he give back the award and resign from his position.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sure it should win....and Lori Batts should win best principal!

Look, if Obama can win a Nobel Peace Prize for nothing, then Salisbury can win All American City for nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  45. No Way, crime stats sure didn't make it in

    ReplyDelete
  46. yeah right-wait,how the hell did that happen? Were they medicated?
