Departmental MEMO
Joe here is something else that you can post that clearly shows more corruption from Gordy and Hoppes. They are attempting to conduct upcoming promotions for Captains and Lieutenants. They are trying to make these promotions before the next fire chief is appointed by the mayor. This is something that should be exposed. Promotions should be handled by the incoming fire chief not Bill Gordy or Rick Hoppes. Please post this so the citizens and Mayor Ireton can put a stop to it until the new fire chief is in office.
Dear Mr. Mole,
ReplyDeleteYou really need to learn more about the fd before you go crying foul. The promotional process is held this time each year. The promotions also aren't strictly handled by Gordy and Hoppes. The written is standard to all applicants, the interview is conducted by a third party group (chiefs from different departments) and then seniority is obvious in it's definition. So where in there can you include your allegation of corruption? It seems to me this may have been forwarded by someone who has been passes over for a promotion in the past.........
This process takes place every two years regardless of who is the Chief. It gives every member who meet the educational requirements and time served an opportunity for advancement. Acting Lieutenants must take the test each cycle to maintain their positions. In the past SFD officer were chosen by the Chief with no testing in place. Sometimes the right person was chosen based on performance and sometimes for other reasons.
ReplyDeleteI served the SFD for 21 years before I was promoted to Lieutenant. Having been passed over many times I welcomed this type of testing. When it was all said and done I knew I was afforded a fair chance. I took two more test over the years for Captain and Assistant Chief and successfully earned my position.Competitive testing arrived in 2002 under Chief Brezler and has been in place ever since. This type of evaluation is the norm throughout most of the country. Both volunteer and career members take the same test. How can it be more fair ?
The fact that a new Chief may be appointed soon has nothing to do with the schedule. You either pass or fail. Please explain to me how Bill Gordy or Rick Hoppes have anything to gain or are a part of any corruption in this matter.
Wow! Looks like corruption still exists in the Salisbury Fire Department. Thanks Mayor Ireton. Help is on the Way!!

ReplyDeleteThank you for clarifying this matter. Many people are simply assuming there is corruption because of their hatred for these 2 individuals. It is a shame.
Your comments help clear the air.
Doesn't mater the facts. A couple of career guys who don't want to work hard at earning a promotion are complaining. They think it should be based ont the amount of mud throwiung and complaining they do. They are the main reason for all the problems at the fire department.
ReplyDeleteIreton won't rock the boat -- the firemen can help him get out the vote at reelection time.

I don't know how to take this comment, but it certainly reeks of corruption and bias. Typical of a small town fire department.
P.S. Mr. Farmin please learn proper grammar.

Hoppes and Gordy have devoted their lives the the Fire Department.
ReplyDeleteWhy do people hate them so much?
Gordy volunteers all of his time to the organization! He doesn't ask for any money. Why do people hate him?

ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Some people are just jealous of his success in local business.
His employees love him and the stores are the best around. They have been great stores for a long time.
His success in business is evidence that the town of Salisbury and Delmar like him and his family.
I think some peopel hate him because of his dedication to the fire department. Like the president said, they hate us for our freedoms.

ReplyDeleteYou are referring to Presiden Bush of course!
Hear here.
9:10 All that being said, after the entire testing process is over, and a promotional list is established, what is it in the Salisbury Fire Department, rule of 5 or 10? Meaning the appointing person can select anyone on that list from the top 5 or 10, whatever the prescribed number is in Salisbury. So while the process to establish the promotional list may be impartial, the final selection for the actual promotion(s) most certainly isn't. So in reality, the person that ranks out as #1 after the testing can be passed over by the appointing authority if he or she is on the shit list.
