You will have an opportunity to meet each candidate. After each candidate has discussed their background the floor will open for Q & A from the members attending the meeting. At the conclusion of this meeting each member will have the opportunity to rate the candidates to assist in the selection process of the Fire Chief.
** Please note this meeting is NOT open to the general public. You must be an active career or volunteer member of the Salisbury Fire Department to attend.
Gordy and Hoppes are trying to influence, intimidate and control who Ireton appoints as the next fire chief in Salisbury.
Gordy and Hoppes are not in the race any more. They have a desire to see a good person selected as Chief. That would not be the person youre pushing because they know what he is like the rest of us. S.W.P.O.S.
ReplyDeleteThe meeting is not open to the public for a reason. Its none of their business or the media. The media would make it more of a circus than it already is. Let the members decide who they feel will serve them best as their leader.
ReplyDeleteI wish you were allowed to attend Joe. You could see one of the applicants pace the floor like a prostitute in church. Listen to him boast about mingling with political figures and his masters degree. You could hear him dodge questions like a seasoned politian and make us crap along the way. And best of all acknowledge that he needs to surround himself with good people because he doesnt have fireground experience. Little experience in anything operationally for that matter. Yeah ! You really need to be there Joe. Then maybe youd see what we do.

It's none of our business? WTF!! Who the hell do you think pays your salary with out tax dollars? You should be glad that you have a job. As a matter of fact I wish YOU would get fired. Who in the hell says the employees get a choice of who their boss is going to be? Mr. Ireton I think you have made a major mistake with this one.
wah wah wah. What qualifies Joe who operates a blog? It should be active members only, getting an opportunity to form an edcuated decision.
ReplyDeleteThis should be open to the city residents -- why isn't it, Jim-Beau?
ReplyDeleteJoe:
ReplyDeleteCan you have a mamber of the SFD in the audience wired to record what happens?

ReplyDeleteIts none of your business what goes on in this meeting. All you need to know is that the mayor selects a Chief in a timely fashion and is qualified. You dont care about the fire department any other time so why now. We dont come to your meetings and tell you who to hire. You have to earn a firefighters respect to get them to follow you. In your business they stick anybody in as CEO and move on. Employees hate their jobs and move on to another company. Thats called the private sector and this is the public sector. Get it ? Ever been in the military ? Heard of friendly fire ?
If Larry expects to get the desired result you need to keep this at the top. To many other stories to achieve results.
ReplyDeleteThe Mayor must care what the firefighters think Anon 10:57 because they have to fill out score cards on each applicant. Maybe he wants a person who can lead and not dictate. I.E. Ivan Barkley.
ReplyDeletecut throat politics going on inside the fd for this process so what the point of going. this time is more of a farce than the last on the mayor threw out. seems like a lot of people want to cut dodd out. they are going around telling people not to vote for him," he hates volunteers", " he hates career". these people are running any angle against him. im not saying im for him or against him but give the man a fair chance.
ReplyDeletemayor liarton needs to make a decision. maybe he will throw out this group also as he did the last.
First of all to the citizen that thinks the public should be aloud to go to the meeting... You are a foolish foolish person. I don't know why you think because you pay taxes you getting help choose who the chief is. The fd is a paramilitary orginization and the public has nothing to do with it. Do they have the public sit in on meetings to tell who our next general of the army is? No, because the public has nothing to do with it. All the public needs to know is when they call 911 someone will show up and help them when they can't help themselves.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, to the old timers of the sfd and you volunteer"firemen". You are scared because you know Larry dodd is the most qualified and he understands the fd is changing. He know that the good old boys clubs just doesn't work anymore. He understands that the sfd is over worked and underpaid and knows that cutting volunteers would save this city thousands of dollars. See, the public thinks that you jolly vollies do this for free but what they don't understand is it cost alot of money to give you gear, uniforms, and training. Specially when you take that training and never show up. You do it for the tax break and to look cool wearing and fd t shirt. They could cut half of you, save money and not lose a beat in responses. So citizens of Salisbury, you have heard it here... The volunteers are not as free as you think and profesionals they arfe not. Chief dodd knows this and as soon as he is chief changes are coming. Good luck Larry dodd this department needs you. Rip Gordy.

ReplyDeleteYou are exactly right about everything you said. The public has no business choosing the Fire Chief. These people are professionals and the choice must be made with that in mind.
Hoppes, Gordy or Dodd would all be excellent choices.

ReplyDeleteWHAT did you say?? First, you dishonor the career division (if you really are a member and not some jerk sitting somewhere else chimming in) through your words.
Second, go back to school please...WOW!!
Third, you're WAY off base and have no clue as to what you're talking about...
This is NOT how any career member should or would present themselves...I doubt you really are...
I love how people rag on other people on here because of their grammar. Who cares people it's a blog. Its about as inportant to use good grammar here as it is for texting.
ReplyDeleteOh and to 3:10pm. You are soo right and the people of Salisbury need to know. If anybody else but dodd makes chief it will be the same department as it always has been.
