While many of you with children received a call from Dr. Fredericksen earlier this evening stating school will end 2 hours early on Monday, he went on to say we'll see you Monday.
THIS DOES NOT MEAN SCHOOL IS CLOSED ON FRIDAY.
I'm sure Dr. Fredericksen didn't mean to come off sounding like School would be closed on Friday, so don't use that excuse. He never stated there would be no School on Friday.
I have made several attempts to make contact with my people within the Board of Ed but I have not been successful as of yet.
That being said, Dr. Fredericksen, IF you feel the need to correct your statement earlier tonight with better details, PLEASE DO NOT WAIT until 5:30 AM tomorrow morning to do so.
We'll keep you posted on any updates towards any delays for Friday. We were also informed that Friday is the makeup day for "Grandparents Day" at Wicomico County Schools. I have not received any information stating this will not take place. My suggestion at this time is to follow the makeup information for Friday. If that changes we will let you know as well.
Did you know that there was a school bus crash in Delaware on Feb. 16? The picture I saw, the roads were just awful. What was Delaware thinking, and why can't they do a better job clearing the roads? Shame on Delaware.
ReplyDeleteDid you also know that EIGHT buses got stuck in Wicomico County last week in the snow, FACT.
ReplyDeleteCome on Freddy, out with it!
ReplyDeleteIt would be really nice too, if when they call at 5:30am their message system actually told us something. All I had was a buzz and a click,I thought at most it would be a 2hr late start, 6:15am I got another call this time telling us school was closed.
ReplyDeleteWas the first call just a wake up call to prepare us for the 2nd and then 3rd call ?
OMG people get up and check the news yourself or call the Teacher Hotline.
ReplyDeleteJoe...I work in a school office. You are correct...at this point, school IS in session tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI am sure Dr. Fredericksen put out the message tonight to inform parents that may leave for an extended weekend after work tomorrow. If he called over the weekend, parents may have not gotten the message and kids would have been absent Monday.
The message could have been clearer but I bet that is why he made the call tonight.
Also, readers need to know that morning Pre K will be in session on Monday and the kids will go home on the bus at their regular time (11:30 AM). With the early dismissal, there is NO afternoon Pre K.
I'm sure if they decide to close school tomorrow they'll call at 6am like they did this morning with their automated system. I wish Fredericksen had that system installed where the sun Does not shine. Never had them call before and wish they'd put an end to it now. I guess he thinks parents are not smart enough to listen to the news in the mornings. Just wish someone could explain why they closed today.
ReplyDelete7:59 There is no teacher hotline for Wicomico County...hopefully you're speaking for another county and just don't have diarrhea of the mouth.
ReplyDeleteFor those who don't like the O'bright thirty calls, let your child's school secretary know so she can change the code in X2.
Lastly Frederickson's message is normal - that's the type of poor communication we receive as personnel as well.....and you think you're confused. :)
Tomorrow will surely be worse than today so school will be closed. Listen to the wind. All we need now is snow!
ReplyDeleteI was confused by the message also.
ReplyDeletewhy do some people's name show up in blue and others in black?
ReplyDeleteAfter getting the weather forecast head fake today, I'm sure they would prefer to wait until tomorrow morning to decide whether to be closed or not.
ReplyDeleteI don't envy the man dealing with this crazy weather. Can't win.
8:58 It is choosing anonymous versus having a google name set up.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 8:58 are you racist ?? LOL
ReplyDeletethanks for posting this because i didnt really understand the message
ReplyDeleteIf you are talking as in 50 yard dash - - yes. LOL.
ReplyDeleteHis message was not clear as to whether or not school is closed tomorrow. However Dr Fredrickson just cant win on this website!! If he would had sent kids to school today and had the weather started getting bad, you same people would of been on here bashing him saying he was stupid for sending the klids to school in the first place!!!
ReplyDeleteDang we really don't have anything better to do then to critisize the system we voted in ,in the first place LOL believe me the kids will be txting each other tomorrow if there is no school chillax.
ReplyDeleteI also work in a school office.
ReplyDeleteThere may not be a teacher hotline but there IS a SCHOOL STATUS HOTLINE. The number is 410-677-5100. It currently states that schools will be operating at normal hours. (10:54 p.m. 2/25)
Also, there is no CODE for X2 that prevents phone calls from ParentLink. If you do not want to have calls wake you up, the only way to do it is to have the area in X2 that is designated for your home number to be blank. It may be possible to add non-digits entered in the HOME NUMBER area in X2 to prevent the calls, but I'm not sure.
I think the automated system is fantastic! Also, I got the message today about Monday and did not find it confusing at all, it was just an informational message about monday. just my opinion...
ReplyDeleteMaybe Fredericksen is creating another task force and it has not been decided if schools will be closed. Oh that's right, he rarely informs us of what the task force outcome was. All talk is what he is.
ReplyDeleteThank you School Employee for setting the record straight with Teacher about the Hotline. She/He must be a new teacher to the area or was just lokking for a reason to post.
ReplyDeleteThe message about Monday was fine and totally appropriate. When he closed with have a nice weekend, that was the error.
ReplyDeleteI am a teacher and after seeing about 15 students out of 57 absent today, the phone message was obviously confusing for many. About the messages coming so early, perhaps they should switch the times they send the messages out. As an employee, I don't get the message until 7:00. By that time, I'm up and showered. If it was sent out earlier for employees and at 7:00 for students it would make much more sense.
ReplyDeleteI am an elementary teacher, and HALF of my class was absent! Strangely enough, (sarcasm,) this theme was prevalent throughout the school. I'd be interested in a new post asking about class size today...
