Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey has warned Republican National Committee Chairman Michael S. Steele that his plans to align the Republican Party with the "tea party" movement will fail unless Mr. Steele proves his bona fides on taxing-and-spending issues.
Mr. Armey told The Washington Times that he had told the chairman that if the Republican Party wants to earn the trust of skeptical tea partiers, it must show it is serious about "not lying to its voters" on those issues as it did in the George W. Bush administration.
Mr. Steele, regarded with suspicion by some RNC members, including some conservatives, has sought to address tea-party events and has called himself a "tea partier."
But Mr. Armey says he told Mr. Steele that he has not gained the trust of the movement, though he said one way to change that would be for Mr. Steele to drop his objections to two resolutions being proposed by the tea-party-friendly, 24-member National Republican Conservative Caucus during the four-day meeting of the Republican National Committee at a Waikiki Beach resort hotel.
"I could support both of the resolutions," said Mr. Armey, who also is chairman of FreedomWorks, which has helped organize many of the biggest tea-party protests.
Is there going to be a Tea Party in Salisbury for 2010? I believe there should be.
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to remind Mr. Armey that he's tearing the once great Rubulican Party apart. What an A$$hole
ReplyDeleteAFP began here last year after the April 15th Tea Party. I wonder if they have any plans in organizing another local Tea Party or if the same one's who organized last years are going to do this years as well? Isn't there something going on in DC on April 15th as far as a Tea Party as well?
ReplyDeleteI do not trust Steele, the GOP, the democrats, libertarians or constitution parties. I trust the American individual. "We the People" in 2010.
ReplyDeleteVote for the candidate, not the party. Salisbury should fill the streets of downtown on April 15th this year. The people should once again organize this protest and show the government machine what we are made of.
ReplyDeleteThe Republican party has done a great job of leaving conservatives behind. That is why there is such an uprising of regular Americans across the country. Both parties have left the people for bigger government and bigger political machines.

ReplyDeleteLook on facebook. All the Tea Party organizations are on there as should be the ones who organized last years. Who knows if the same people will do it this year or if someone new will step up to the plate.
