POLICE SAVE MAN ATTEMPTING TO JUMP OFF WOODROW WILSON BRIDGE
(Forestville, MD) – Fast response and quick thinking by state troopers, county police, and municipal officers led to the rescue this afternoon of a suicidal man who threatened to jump off the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.
The man is not being identified because he has not yet been charged with a crime. He is a 38-year-old man whose address is unknown at this time. He has been taken by ambulance to Southern Maryland Hospital for an examination.
Shortly after 3:00 p.m. today, Maryland State Police at the Forestville Barracks received a call from a relative of the man who said he planned to jump from the bridge. Almost simultaneously, the barracks began receiving calls from motorists who reported a man standing on the sidewalk portion of the bridge on the inner loop of I-495.
Five state troopers arrived in less than five minutes. They were joined by an officer from the Prince George’s County Police and three officers from the Forest Heights Police Department. Boats from the D.C. Harbor Patrol assembled in the water below. The inner loop portion of the roadway was closed.
As police approached the man, he climbed over the fence along the sidewalk and stood on the outer portion of the bridge over the water. Troopers began talking with the man, who repeatedly threatened to jump.
During the dialog, the man grabbed onto the concrete along the bottom of the bridge and dropped over, hanging by his hands suspended over the water. Troopers and officers climbed over the fence to the edge of the bridge. They used a rope to tie the man’s hands to the bridge.
Risking their own safety in this precarious position, the troopers and officers then pulled the man back up onto the bridge. The man was then turned over to emergency medical personnel who were standing by.
No troopers or county police officers were injured in the incident. The inner loop of I-495 was reopened less than 30 minutes after the incident began.
ASSIGNMENT EDITORS: The troopers and officers involved in this incident are currently at the State Police Forestville Barracks, 3500 Forestville Road, Forestville, 301-568-8101.
Obama Gets An "F" In Recent MSNBC Poll
He received a failing mark in an MSNBC unscientific online survey after having spent less than three months in the White House.
In its "Give President Obama a Grade" survey, MSNBC asked nearly 2 million respondents, "If you were grading Barack Obama on his performance as president, what would he get?"
The largest number of respondents – or 43 percent – gave Obama an "F."
Approximately 31 percent said the president has earned an "A," while 6.5 percent gave him a "B," 5.3 percent answered a "C" and 14 percent said he has earned a "D."
Meanwhile, Rasmussen Reports' daily presidential tracking poll for April 7, 2009, shows that 37 percent of voters strongly approve of Obama's performance. A full 29 percent now strongly disapprove of his performance.
The poll was conducted via telephone surveys of only 1,500 respondents.

Delaware Electric Says Thank You
We “Beat the Peak” This Morning
Our “Beat the Peak” efforts Wednesday morning were huge and resulted in significant power cost savings for our members.
While other area utilities were seeing their energy demand increase between the hours of 7 A.M. and 9 A.M., the load on the Delaware Electric Cooperative system actually decreased.
This is quite a testimony to our dedicated member-owners who continue to make every effort to have an impact upon the cost of their power while enjoying rates that are the lowest in the area.
Together “We Keep the Lights On” and together we will continue to “Beat the Peak.”
Again, thank you for making a difference for your cooperative.
MONDAY'S CLOSED SESSION MEETING IN SALISBURY WAS ILLEGAL
While many believe Gary Comegys and Louise Smith simply didn't want the public to know where things stand the day before the election, it's been reported they chose to close that meeting and violated the Open Meeting Act.
There was absolutely NOTHING discussed behind closed doors that had anything to do with litigation so Councilwoman Debbie Campbell warned them three times that if they didn't start telling her why this was brought into a closed session, she refused to discuss anything and simply walked out of the meeting.
NOTHING has been exposed, as Mayor Tilghman assured the Press weeks ago that she would give great details as to just how serious the problems are at the Salisbury WWTP that cost the taxpayers $84,000,000.00!
The Consultant has come and gone and there's still no word. Comegys has run from this topic since the day Salisbury News broke the story that the new system not only didn't work, it was getting worse by the day.
I should add to this Post that Police Chief Webster has been on Mrs. Campbells heels trying to get access to a surveillance tape he believes is in her possession. Mrs. Campbell has advised the Chief to talk to her lawyer as she has nothing more to say about the matter. I'm sure many of you have seen the frequent comments of people bringing up the fact that the Chief is squirming as to just where the tape is and went. Mayor Tilghman is reported to be extremely upset as well and wants that tape back.
The outcome of the Salisbury WWTP does not look Folks. Someone, (especially Barrie Tilghman) has some serious explaining to do and I would think an investigation as to where ALL of the funds were spent would be under way very soon. Of course you're NOT going to see Mayor Tilghman initiate the investigation because that would be the honorable thing to do and she's just not known for doing such a thing. I wonder why?
I should add, because Debbie walked out of the meeting, Terry & Shanie weren't present, there wasn't a quorum and the topic died right then and there.
BREAKING NEWS! Man Gets Life + 10 Years
This morning, visiting Circuit Court Judge David Mitchell sentenced 41-year-old Patrick Quesenberry to Life in Prison plus 10 years in the Division of Correction. On February 24, 2009, Quesenberry was convicted of 2 counts of First Degree Burglary, First Degree Attempted Rape, First Degree Attempted Sex Offense, Third Degree Attempted Sex Offense, and Second Degree Assault.
Assistant State’s Attorney Jamie Dykes says on or about August 10, 2008, in the early evening, Quesenberry entered the home of the victim through a second story window on Hammond Street and sexually assaulted her. Then, Dykes says hours later, Quesenberry entered the home a second time through the exact same second story window and assaulted the 14-year-old victim again.
State’s Attorney Davis Ruark says Quesenberry is originally from Cecil County where he has an extensive criminal history which include several batteries against women. Immediately prior to his release from DOC, he was assigned to the Poplar Hill Pre-Release Unit in Quantico. Upon his release from Poplar Hill, he elected to stay in the Salisbury area.
At today’s sentencing, Judge Mitchell told Quesenberry, “The marvelous thing about this country, no matter how we are born what matters is how we perform.”
Dear Housewife/Mayor
Just a quick note to let you know that I have numerous friends that are Salisbury City Employees and you and the election are the talk of the town. I have received numerous phone calls from them and they are very elated to know that the the evil woman is HISTORY.
Apparently most of them are singing a tune that sounds like "ding dong the witch is dead." I had no idea there were that many unhappy employees in the city under the Mare's Reign of Terror. Please post this so the mare herself can read this.

Salisbury, The Safest City In America
Now that's refreshing! These were the words Mayor Jim Ireton expressed last night. Ireton, verbose at times, took the earlier moments when he first arrived to recognize, win or lose, as many of the people he could recall who worked so hard to make this process a success. I eventually found/stole a seat you fire up my laptop because I knew the announcement was just moments away and someone even took my picture doing so, thanks. They tell me, You've Been Blogged Joe Albero." LOL
I want to take a brief moment to express my own thanks to the entire Ireton/Campbell/Polk Campaigns. Ladies & Gentlemen, without all of these wonderful people busting their rear ends, educating the public. There were many lies and obstacles in which Jim Ireton and Debbie Campbell handled with complete class and refused to address many of them as they simply were not going to play the same game. They ran an honest and fair campaign and guess what, they won.
For the very first time in some 12 years the citizens of Salisbury are actually going to receive accountability, honesty, open government. I truly enjoyed the comment that came in asking citizens to pick up the trash when they see something on the streets. Good for you! It's a new day in the City of Salisbury and we need to take some time and allow our new Mayor to make some immediate changes, interview Department Heads and start that very long journey towards recovery.
The photos above are just some samples of yesterday in which I hope you enjoy. I have nothing bad to say today and I'm somewhat at a loss and quite frankly I think Mr. Ireton just screwed up Salisbury News, something I'm just going to have to get used to I guess. Nevertheless, we're not going anywhere any time soon. As much as I really need a break and as much as I would truly enjoy getting away for a brief period of time, there's still a whole lot of work to do. Don't you think for a moment that we won't continue to expose anything and everything that comes our way. That includes Mr. Ireton's day to day successes and failures. I have shared with Mr. Ireton that if it is cold in the GOB to please wear a jacket or we're going to expose him, that's just the way we are. LOL
Thank You Citizens. We backed this man because we believe in this man. He won't let you down. Enjoy this day in history. The winner of this race was the Citizens of Salisbury!
And They Called Us CAVE People And The Dirty Dozen!
Ladies & Gentlemen, it has been a very long 4 years in the making. We had a Mayor that played dirty tricks on the taxpayers of Salisbury who believed she was invincible. I have seen dirty politics like no one could have ever dreamed of and desperation like no other campaign ever experienced.
Name calling, personal attacks, arrests, threats, you name it, it has been done. We had a Mayor that clearly disgusted many but for all too many years no one was willing to stand up to the Tilghman Administration in fear of all kind of retaliation.
For me personally, there have been arrests and false charges simply to make me out to be this bad guy who took more abuse than anyone could ever dream of. In the past, it was enough to fold many and made them go into hiding but this time Barrie Tilghman met her match. She believed there was this "Dirty Dozen" and she actually thought that's where it ended. She was so sick, she had no clue there were hundreds, if not thousands of people even back then who couldn't stand her dirty tactics but no one had yet to stand up to her.
I personally fought this woman along with Chief Webster, Chief See, Mike Dunn, Lynn Cathcart, Gary Comegys, Jim Rapp, Carrie Samis, Ron Alessi, Richard Insley, Louise Smith, The Daily Times and many others and I was not going to stand down. Hence, Salisbury News. If for nothing else, one way or another I was going to expose these people to the point they would finally be accountable for their actions and today each and every one of you who cast your vote for Debbie Campbell, Jim Ireton and Cynthia Polk finally proved to this administration you weren't going to take it any more.
Along comes a wonderful man named Jim Ireton. A man who absolutely loves the City of Salisbury and reminds me a lot of Jim Mathias, charismatic about the town he loved so well. A new light to shine brighter than any other light this City has ever seen. The Daily Times ragged on him from day one and it only until the bitter end that they finally came to realize the message coming from Salisbury News was more powerful than they had ever dreamed of. The message was, "Help Is On The Way" from a man who truly meant it. From a man that was not just gaining momentum, a man that said full steam ahead and never looked back. A man who was the light at the end of a very dark tunnel that until today no one ever expected to see the end.
Jim Ireton is a man who can be trusted and I can't thank each and every one of you for showing your support and trusting in the message we continued to deliver each and every day for the past three months. Now don't ever think we believe Jim is perfect, no one is. What you will come to learn is that YOUR best interests are at heart with this man and he will do his very best to make the positive changes Salisbury so desperately needs.
Debbie Campbell, what can I say. Has it been easy watching this woman get attacked by Gary Comegys, Barrie Tilghman, Mike Dunn and Louise Smith, absolutely not. But I'll tell you this. When Debbie Campbell ran for Office and I watched these cowards beat up on her at every opportunity they could I made Debbie a promise many years ago that I would attend every single Council Meeting and I'd have her back. No, it hasn't been easy. Mike Dunn pushed buttons and confronted Debbie in abusive ways I had never seen a man do to a woman and quite frankly it was all I could do to keep myself from getting right back in that mans face and treat him exactly the same way he was treating her. The only way I felt I could get justice was to create a Blog of my own and go after them the same way they had gone after me and others.
Debbie Campbell has certainly made meetings last much longer than they should have, IF we had an honorable council. That was not the case, so Debbie had to press each and every issue and let me assure you of one thing, this is a VERY intelligent woman and you're damn lucky to have her back for another 4 years.
As for Cynthia Polk, she's a very kind woman and while many out there are begging that she win this election, I thank Cynthia for stepping up to the plate to better this fine City. If Cynthia doesn't win, all is not lost, trust me on that. Shanie Shields is not a vindictive woman. She will also see the light at the end of the tunnel and I firmly believe she'll start to vote in a direction that will help the City move forward, you'll see. I also believe you'll see the same out of Louise Smith. Gary Comegys will do one of two things. He'll either be the guy that becomes vindictive and tries to get Louise Smith and Shanie Shields to side with him on every vote or Gary will simply say enough is enough and call it quits. My guess is that he'll attempt to make every one's live miserable after this loss as there will be many people, especially Landlords/Slumlords that will desperately want him to stick with it and keep them alive.
In the end I firmly believe once everyone settles into their new positions the citizens will see where Ireton is headed and he will quickly gain even more support for his vision and Gary and his people will quickly fade into the sunset. It's time to do things right and everyone will need a few days to get used to what's about to change in 12 more days. I'm dying to see if the Mayor actually leaves the notes she took for the new Mayor from her recent meetings and actually cooperates with Mr. Ireton to make this transaction a smooth one. Somehow I doubt it but I encourage ALL of you to keep your eyes out for any Shredder Companies and alert Salisbury News if you see ANYTHING suspicious over the next few days at the GOB.
My very first request for Mr. Ireton as Mayor would be, create a telephone hot line just like Rick Pollitt did and let each and every employee of the City come clean immediately with what they know. Get right to the bottom of everything fast and come forward to the public with what you have learned so as they can never come back and point the finger at you for anything. The sooner he gets this done the better life will be for everyone.
Getting back to the title of this Post, Barrie, the "Dirty Dozen" was a figment of your imagination. Today you were spanked by the majority of Citizens who simply said, "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH." It was never a dozen people Barrie. Today we proved just that.
To Mayor Jim Ireton Elect and Councilwoman Debbie Campbell, THANK YOU so very much! Folks, you can stop hiding behind anonymous if you'd like. Things are about to get really exciting in the City of Salisbury. It has been a very long day but an even longer 4 years. I thank ALL of our readers for visiting and participating with Salisbury News. We started out rough and have toned things down year after year. It's only going to get better from here on out Ladies & Gentlemen.
In closing, Tuesday was the biggest day Salisbury News has ever had. I'll obviously get a later start than usual as I'm wrapping up this Post at 1:40 AM.
Hartly Man Arrested For Exposing Self To Area Juveniles
Hartly – The Delaware State Police have arrested a 56-year-old Hartly man for several offenses after police learned he was exposing his genitals to several people, including five juveniles.
The ensuing investigation revealed Stephen T. Pardee Jr., resides on Brittany Lane and that over the course of a year he has been exposing himself to several persons within the Amish community. Specifically six persons, a 3 yr old male, 12 yr old female, two 14 yr old females, 15 yr old female and a 22 yr old female were subject to Pardee revealing his genitals and naked body to them on several occasions between April of ’08 and April ’09.
Investigators learned the victims reside near Pardee and that on occasions he would specifically yell to the victims to get their attention while exposing himself. Other times he simply stood in his driveway with his genitals exposed as the victims walked by his home.
Police contacted Pardee yesterday at his home. After an interview, he was taken into custody without incident and charged with five counts of Indecent Exposure First Degree (M), 5 counts of Lewdness (M), and three counts of Indecent Exposure Second Degree (M). He was released on an $11,500 unsecured bond and ordered no contact with the victims.
Investigators are asking for any other persons that may have been victimized by Pardee in a similar fashion to contact detectives at Troop 3 at 302.697.2104 ext. 309.

U.S.-Flagged Cargo Ship Hijacked
The 17,000-ton Maersk Alabama was carrying emergency relief to Mombasa, Kenya at the time it was hijacked, said Peter Beck-Bang, spokesman for the Copenhagen-based container shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk. A Kenya-based diplomat identified the vessel and told the Associated Press all crew members are American. The diplomat spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.
The U.S. Navy confirmed the hijacking early Wednesday off the eastern coast of Somalia and said it is monitoring the situation with its own ships.
Spokesman Lt. Nathan Christensen said the attack happened in the early hours of the morning, about 280 miles northeast of Eyl, a town in the northern Puntland region of Somalia. "The area, the ship was taken in, is not where the focus of our ships has been," Christensen told The Associated Press on the phone from the 5th Fleet's Mideast headquarters in Bahrain.
"The area we're patrolling is more than a million miles in size. Our ships cannot be everywhere at every time," Christensen said. He declined to release the name of the ship until the family members of the crew are notified. He said the ship was operated by the Danish company Maersk, which deals with the U.S. Department of Defense. Christensen said the vessel was not working under a Pentagon contract when hijacked.
"Our initial concern is to ensure proper support of the crew and assistance to their families," Maersk said in a statement. An U.S. embassy spokeswoman was not immediately able to confirm the incident.
Andrew Mwangura of the East African Seafarers' Assistance Program said the ship was taken about 400 miles from the Somali capital, Mogadishu. The vessel is the sixth to be seized within a week and the first with an all-American crew.

Boda Campaign
"Muir Boda Yes, that is what we are planning to do. Pick up all my signs tomorrow for next time. 2011 will come fast. Thanks for your vote, now we focus on the Ravens Super Bowl run!!!!!!!!!!!"
LAST NIGHT AT THE ELECTION BOARD
The mood was somber with almost total silence among the Bubba and Boda supporters who were present. Then the final tally, including the numbers from the Harvest Baptist Church polling in District Two, was announced, and it was obvious that the absentee ballots can’t change the outcome except – hopefully – for the District One seat on City Council. In that race those uncounted ballots are more than 10 times greater than the 3 vote lead that Ms. Shields holds on Ms. Polk.
Richard Insley, who apparently was there with his son as SAPOA’s representatives, was out the door like a warrant has just been issued for his arrest, followed by the other FOB&B’s. Can you say “good riddance”?

The Boots
Did you hear about the Texas teacher who was helping one of her kindergarten students put on his cowboy boots?
He asked for help and she could see why.
Even with her pulling and him pushing, the little boots still didn't want to go on. By the time they got the second boot on, she had worked up a sweat.
She almost cried when the little boy said, 'Teacher, they're on the wrong feet.' She looked, and sure enough,
They were. It wasn't any easier pulling the boots off than it was putting them on. She managed to keep her cool as together they worked to get the boots back on, this time on the right feet.
He then announced, 'These aren't my boots.'
She bit her tongue rather than get right in his face and scream, 'Why didn't you say so?', like she wanted to.
Once again, she struggled to help him pull the ill-fitting boots off his little feet. No sooner had they gotten the boots off when he said, 'they're my brother's boots. My Mom made me wear 'em.'
Now she didn't know if she should laugh or cry. But, she mustered up what grace and courage she had left to wrestle the boots on his feet again.
Helping him into his coat, she asked, 'Now, where are your Mittens?'
He said, 'I stuffed 'em in the toes of my boots.'
She will be eligible for parole in three years
How Did We Ever Survive?
(Under age 40? You won't understand.)
You could hardly see for all the snow, Spread the rabbit ears as far as they go.
Pull a chair up to the TV set, 'Good Night, David. Good Night, Chet.'
My Mom used to cut chicken, chop eggs and spread mayo on the same cutting
board with the same knife and no bleach, but we didn't seem to get food poisoning.
My Mom used to defrost hamburger on the counter AND I used to eat it raw
sometimes, too. Our school sandwiches were wrapped in wax paper in a brown paper bag, not in ice-pack coolers, but I can't remember getting e.coli.
Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a
pristine pool (talk about boring), no beach closures then.
The term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school PA system.
We all took gym, not PE ... and risked permanent injury with a pair of high top
Ked's (only worn in gym) instead of having cross-training athletic shoes with air cushion soles and built in light reflectors. I can't recall any injuries but they must have happened because they tell us how much safer we are now..
Flunking gym was not an option even for stupid kids! I guess PE must be much
harder than gym.
Speaking of school, we all said prayers and sang the national anthem, and
staying in detention after school caught all sorts of negative attention.
We must have had horribly damaged psyches. What an archaic health system we had then. Remember school nurses? Ours wore a hat and everything.
I thought that I was supposed to accomplish something before I was allowed to be proud of myself. I just can't recall how bored we were without computers, Play Station, Nintendo, X-box or 270 digital TV cable stations.
Oh yeah ... and where was the Benadryl and sterilization kit when I got that bee
sting? I could have been killed!
We played 'king of the hill' on piles of gravel left on vacant construction sites,
and when we got hurt, Mom pulled out the 48-cent bottle of Mercurochrome
(kids liked it better because it didn't sting like iodine did) and then we got
our butt spanked.
Now it's a trip to the emergency room, followed by a 10-day dose of a $49 bottle
of antibiotics, and then Mom calls the attorney to sue the contractor for
leaving a horribly vicious pile of gravel where it was such a threat.
We didn't act up at the neighbor's house either because if we did, we got our butt
spanked there and then we got our butt spanked again when we got home.
I recall Donny Reynolds from next door coming over and doing his tricks on the
front stoop, just before he fell off. Little did his Mom know that she could have
owned our house. Instead, she picked him up and swatted him for being such a goof. It was a neighborhood run amock.
To top it off, not a single person I knew had ever been told that they were from a
dysfunctional family. How could we possibly have known that?
We didn't need to get into group therapy and anger management classes. We were
obviously duped by so many societal ills that we didn't even notice that the
entire country wasn't taking Prozac! How did we ever survive?
Local Robotics Team Advances To World Championship
FIRST Robotics Team 1829 attended the FIRST Robotics NASA/VCU Regional Competition in Richmond, VA last week. The team, comprised of high school students from Maryland and Virginia's Eastern Shore, was awarded the Xerox Creativity Award for their outstanding carbon-fiber robot design and the Regional Engineering Inspiration Award for effectively inspiring students and exposing them to professional engineers and engineering principals. The Engineering Inspiration Award is the second highest award given at the regional level and qualifies the team for the FIRST Robotics Championship held in Atlanta, GA on 16-18 April. This will be the first time that a FIRST Robotics team from Maryland and Virginia's Eastern Shore has advanced to the world championship level!
FIRST is an acronym that stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology" and is the name of a non-profit organization that organizes an international robotics competition to inspire our next generation of technical professionals. Students that participate in FIRST Robotics Competitions gain valuable technical experience, learn directly from professional engineers and scientists, and earn eligibility for over $9 million in scholarship funds - they're learning and they're loving it!
Team 1829 was originally formed by Arcadia High School in Hallwood, VA but grew substantially late last December under the guidance of Navy's Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) in Wallops Island, VA. SCSC joined the team when they decided to pursue FIRST Robotics as a way to inspire local students to pursue higher education in various technical fields.Early this year, the team formed a non-profit organization called Eastern Shore Robotics, recruited over 40 students from Maryland and Virginia, and began seeking sponsorship from local businesses, colleges and organizations in order to fund their participation in the 2009competition. The coalition team has expanded to include students from Arcadia High School, Pocomoke High School, Worcester Technical High School, Bennett High School and even a few home-schooled students. The team's current sponsors include Surface Combat Systems Center, Hawk Institute for Space Sciences, Eastern Shore Community College, Eastern Shore Defense Alliance, American Society of Naval Engineers - Wallops Island Chapter, Northrop Grumman's NASA Sounding Rocket Operations Contract, Lockheed Martin Information Systems and Global Services,Buddy's Electronics, and NASA Federal Credit Union. The team's success is due in large part to the funding, resources, and mentor ship provided by its sponsors. Eastern Shore Robotics is currently seeking additional partners and sponsors to help fund the $10,000 required for the team's participation in the Championship. If you would like to help, contact the team by email: ESR@ESRobot.org to learn more.
