I hate asking for anything. But I would like to ask for a few prayers. My grandson who will be 10 months old March 14th and lives due to life support is back in the hospital again. He has never been home here for a full month. This last time, he was home for 10 days before he had to be rushed back to the hospital again tonight. Peninsula General Hospital here can't care for him so it it always back to John's Hopkins but this time, was at the Dupont Center for Children in Del. He has double pneumonia. Needless to say, there is little income coming in there and they are not eligible for much public assistance. Any infection in a child like this can be fatal. Please keep this family in your thoughts and or prayers.
Thank you,
Cindy

Parents Of Fleeing Driver Arrested For Falsely Reporting Incident
Bridgeville – The Delaware State Police have arrested the parents of Reagan M. Ogden for their participation in reporting the vehicle driven by their son in the fatal crash as stolen.
Today, investigators arrested Regan M. Ogden and Mary E. Ogden, both 53 of Greenwood for Hindering Prosecution (F), Conspiracy 2nd Degree (F) and Falsely Reporting an Incident (M). In addition, Ms. Ogden was also charged with Knowingly Permitting an Unlicensed Driver to Operate a Vehicle.
These charges stem from the fact that both persons had falsified the report of the stolen vehicle and hindered the police investigation by providing false information to police as to their son’s involvement. Investigators were able to determine that these persons were aware of what their son was involved in and knowingly attempted to defraud investigators in their efforts.
Investigators also learned that Ms. Ogden knew her son did not possess a valid driver’s license and allowed him to drive the vehicle. Both were arrested after they voluntarily surrendered to police at Troop 5 in Bridgeville. Mr. Ogden was released on a $1250.00 unsecured bond and Ms. Ogden was released on a $1350.00 unsecured bond.
Note: the spelling of the names is correct. The father and son gave similar names.

Washington Post Reports 77% Drop in Q4 Profits Stock Down 3%
Washington, DC -- Hurt by a sharp decrease in the value of its newspapers, The Washington Post Co. on Wednesday said that its fourth-quarter profit dropped 77% to $18.8 million. Despite a 3% increase in revenue, the company was hit with several one-time charges, including a $75.7 million write-down to account for the declining value of its newspapers. With the recession in high-gear, print advertising at The Washington Post fell 21% during the quarter, but was offset slightly by a 5% jump in online revenue, primarily from the company's washingtonpost.com web site. The Washington Post owns an array of daily and community newspapers, as well as magazines -- such as Newsweek -- TV stations, web sites and education firm Kaplan. http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=62487&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1259886&highlight=
SU post Well-stated and informative comments
I am working on a few different posts. This is a lot harder than I had imagined. I am new to the blogosphere and I appreciate your patience. I am trying to get more information from SU regarding the housing situation, to start, and will follow up later.
I was so impressed with the comments from my SU post yesterday I thought it would be worthwhile to recap a few of them on this post. I am grateful many readers took the time to “weigh in” and respond.
I attempted to edit some of the 50 comments, highlighting excellent points that were made. Clearly it became too lengthy and my editing sometimes ruined the substance of the comment. My inexperience has wasted a perfectly good day. Live and Learn.
Here is the link to the comments: https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=31586983&postID=2316704126284221940
This issue has many levels and is not unique to just our community. I still have more questions than answers. My biggest question is why haven’t our elected officials, community leaders and SU administration done more to bring us all together? It appears neither side is being heard. Do we even have a “community liaison” working with one of our biggest employers/biggest assets?
One more question...Is it just me but the signs you see all over town, “SU Student are Welcome” is a bit of a negative? I understand it is a marketing attempt but I feel it is a little weird. It reminds me of the 50’s era when there were signs in the window stating you had to be a certain race to come in the store. A very bad, embarrassing time in US history. Of course SU students are welcome, we clearly need to do a better.

Celebrating The Class of 2009
We have been very blessed with our senior. His public education has served him well and he had his choices of universities. No complaints with WCBOE regarding HIS education and experience. We, his parents, can't take a lot of credit either. He was self motivated and driven to do well. Can't say that about all my children!
Many seniors I have spoken with are going on to a specific trade, joining the military or attending a university.
I would love to know where our future is going here on the Eastern Shore. Drop me a comment and let us know.
Congratulations to The Class of 2009!

“I continue to advocate for transparency in government and politics. While campaign reports are available to the public through filing a Freedom of Information Act Request with the government, I am happy to make the reports easily accessible to the public.” says Campbell. “I appreciate the contributions that have been made to the campaign and the support that I have received through volunteerism. It would be my honor to serve Salisbury for a second term.”
Campbell’s innovative web site includes many interactive features including a survey of voter priorities, video from pre-election forums and interviews, and forms that allow supporters to make contributions, volunteer, and request yard signs and magnetic car signs directly from the site. www.campbell4council.net
The Crash Of 2009 Is Coming To YOU!
Ladies & Gentlemen, if there's ever a video for you, your spouse, your co-workers, your family & Friends to see, THIS IS IT! I have been trying to preach this for years now, (right Bob) and today I read on the Internet that Obama thinks we're going to be out of this recession by the end of this year??????
You watch this video and if you don't get it or understand it after 3 minutes of watching, well, then you're the perfect American. You are EXACTLY what this current Federal Government wants you do be. Do not EVER say that Salisbury News didn't present the perfect example of just how bad we're crashing in America and devaluing the dollar. Take the 3 minutes or so, or however long it takes you to download this video and watch it. You may just become an American all over again and demand they put a stop to this nonsense immediately. Oh, this is EXACTLY why I gave Gary Comegys so much crap at the last Council Meeting. It's that kind of mentality, (if the Federal Government wants to come to Salisbury and write us a check for $860,000.00 for a Fire Boat, I'm not going to tell them I don't want the check) that has destroyed America. It's time for a change and I'm confident this video will prove to you that time is certainly of the essence.
This Is Exactly Why I Used To Use The Word Idiot
"Let me start by saying that there is a good ole boy system in Somerset County, and I don't doubt the sheriff has a drinking problem; he has been introuble before (recorded, or unrecorded) and I think he needs to be replaced.
OK, lets say that he was there, he was drunk, and he hit her.
Why does she think he is out to kill her? Is she crazy, or just not telling the whole story?
Ok, so he hit her, what the heck does she want? No injuries, no proof he is out to get her. This story is being blown out of proportion.
There is no proof he was drunk.
There is no proof he is out to get her.
He hit her, but there are no injuries; did she produce medical records of a concusion?
Joe, you are whole-heartedly on her side, but what legal right does she have for anything. Why isn't she after the County for her medical bills? Has she contacted their insurance?
I really don't trust a word she says. Have you taken a good look at her and/or her history.
Since I have agreed to be a nicer guy and not call people Idiots any more, I'll refrain from doing so and do my very best to keep my tone away from calling any one a name.
Look, I was there at the Court House. I have spoken to Mrs. Pusey and her Witnesses. I have spoken to Sheriff Bobby Jones, the Maryland State Police and quite a few other people who have knowledge to this case. I know, I know, now the Anti Albero people are going to start screaming because how dare Joe Albero get inside knowledge to a case. I have never once stated everything I was told and I have never once revealed my sources. All that being said, the person who wrote this comment has not spoken with ANYONE and is still defending Bobby Jones. Well, that's your right. However, don't challenge me on what I DO KNOW!
You said, "OK, lets say that he was there, he was drunk, and he hit her. Why does she think he is out to kill her? Is she crazy, or just not telling the whole story?"
A Peace Order doesn't mean he's out to KILL her. A Peace Order is granted to someone who is in fear for their life OR Bodily injury. IMHO, there's NO QUESTION in my mind or anyone else's in the Court Room that Mrs. Pusey was in fear of her life. IF the man can hit her TWICE with his vehicle and never deny it in Court, I'm turning the other cheek here folks and I'm trying VERY hard to not say what I want to say, her charge was legitimate and should have been granted. You do remember Bobby Jones saying the first time and then coming back and saying the second time, don't you? IMO, the man had admitted right then and there that he had done so TWICE! Let me add, I have personally had my life threatened at least three times since writing these articles. Within two minutes of Earls Sister putting up the Post about them denying her Peace Order, there was an immediate threat on Mrs. Pusey's life that we rejected and forwarded to the States Attorney's Office here in Wicomico County.
Yu then said, "Ok, so he hit her, what the heck does she want? No injuries, no proof he is out to get her." She did have paperwork from the Hospital and she did get a concussion from it as well as multiple bruises. We're sorry there wasn't more proof of broken bones and so forth. Again Folks, I'm being nice here.
"There is no proof he was drunk. There is no proof he is out to get her."
Again, you weren't in the Court Room. There absolutely was proof the man had been drinking by at least 4 to 7 people. Additionally, there was proof that Mr. Jones had returned the following day, several times. As the Judge said, it was now his choice who to pick as to who was telling him the truth or not. He chose Bobby Jones, not the victim or her witness. He didn't go by any Police Report because the Police refused to give her one. Not even a Case Number, go figure?
"I really don't trust a word she says. Have you taken a good look at her and/or her history." I'm happy you don't trust a word she says, ANONYMOUS. YOU have no credibility whatsoever. For all we know, you could be Bobby Jones himself. I don't care what her history is either. She presented a good case and I highly doubt this thing is anywhere near over. Now it will turn into a Criminal Case and Mrs. Pusey will finally have some representation. You have to wonder if the 911 tapes will ever show up? The Daily Times can't get them either?

Why I Voted Republican
Because I believe we really are a monarchy, not a democracy and that the President should have the powers of a King.
Because I believe the Constitution is just a goddamn piece of paper.
Because the rule of force trumps the rule of law.
Because we need more poor people.
Because an obese drug addict with a radio show told me to.
Because I love catchy phrases like "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" and "BRING 'EM ON."
Because clean air is so darn overrated.
Because the thought of torturing people brings me close to orgasm.
Because "habeus corpus" was dreamed up by a bunch of men wearing tights.
Because I think my chances of getting salmonella are very low.
Because facts are for liberal weaklings.
Because when I finally get wealth and power I damned well aim to keep it forever.
Because the idea of bombing Iran makes me salivate.
Because gays don't deserve civil rights.
Because rape victims don't deserve abortion rights.
Because the unregulated free-market is working so well.
Because I like Big Brother reading my emails.
Because we don't have enough Nukes yet.
Because America rightfully belongs to white Christians.
Because hate is more powerful than hope.
Because $75 billion profit in three months isn't enough for Big Oil, I want to give them more.
Because I love the tax loop holes we created that allow Big Oil to keep all that money.
Because I believe greedy corporations will do the right thing for me.
Because if you don't think exactly like I do you must be a socialist commie.
Because Sarah Palin really knows what she is talking about.
Because "white guilt" is an actual thing.
Because I believe repeating the same disastrous harmful policies and approaches over and over again are good for the country and if the Democrats have a good idea, I'll pray that it fails miserably regardless of who that hurts because better a miserable conservative American than a prospering liberal one.
Because my head is so firmly planted up my *** that it is unlikely that I'll ever have another point of view.

This Just In!
Here's a good one for you Joe...
Yesterday I was out on my lunch break can came across the "Bad Boys of Metro"...yeah that's right, the monstrosity of a fire truck. I'm going to assume that they were simply practicing driving the thing and not just joyriding; however, my Albero like instincts took over (I'll call it AlberoSense) so I decided to follow to see this thing in action.
Well, I'd have to admit that the driver handled the truck pretty well. I only saw him tag 2 curbs for the approximately 10 miles that I followed it; however, he seldom turned right...and the majority of the ride was down Rt 50 and the Bypass...
Another interesting thing I noticed is that the truck was pulling off of Cypress street on to 50 East and lo and behold, the drawbridge was UP! Now I know that this was probably some training and wasn't an emergency, but if that truck had anywhere to go quick it certainly wasn't going to get there... It is a stupid location for the firehouse, but its not going to be moved so I think that the Drawbridge really needs to be on a schedule so that atleast the Fire Department can know when it is up and reroute.
What pisses me off more than anything about my adventures with the Goliathyesterday?!? We paid all of this money for this truck and its not even got brakes!!! That's right folks, I witness first hand our "heros" blowing through not one, not two, but three red lights (Lake Street, Mill Street, and Naylor Street)! I'm not talking just turned from yellow to red when crossing the stop line-I'm saying SOLID RED at least 100 ft prior to the interestion. No lights on, no horns, not sirens to let anybody know that they are going to wack them! THIS IS COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE!!!!! That thing is not light by any stretch of the Imagination and if that truck struck a car in those intersections somebody is going to get killing-you know, Newton's Laws regarding motion and mass! If the brakes aren't good enought to stop that truck, then I suggest you return the truck for lack of performance!
Bottom line, if these "Bad Boys of Metro" need to get it together, get responsible and quit screwing the City over or somebody is going to get seriously injured! In addition, Joe, I snapped a few photos with my phone of the truck stuck at the bridge and a blurry one of the red light running. I'll send them to you tonight- I am carrying my digital camera with me at all times from now on. You a$$holes are being watched!

Let's Talk More About The Salisbury Marina
Did you know they charge $1,400.00 a year to park your Boat at their Marina? Did you also know that they keep raising their rates 10% every year?
I happen to have a friend who used to dock his Boat there but after so many problems with Coastal Property Management they chose to say enough is enough. While they owned a $300,000.00 Boat, they had just pre-paid 6 months in advance and signed a contract. During the winter they would periodically stop by to check on things and every time they went onto the Boat they found there was no power. Mind you, this is the winter months and on a Boat you must keep the heat running so things don't freeze up.
After a couple times this happened, they went to the management company and asked what the problem was. Their response was, you're using too much electric. They replied, no I'm not. I'm barely keeping it warm enough to keep things from freezing. The next time they came back, the breaker was cut off again. After enough complaining the management company actually had a meter placed on their breaker box and ultimately came to learn they were NOT using too much electric and in fact according to their contract, they could use as much electric as they wanted anyway.
Their other major issue was fuel. Most of the time the Marina didn't have fuel in the tanks. Remember now, this is a $300,000.00 Boat and when they would fuel up, it was quite a bit of money. They had asked the management company to at least provide a schedule of when they might expect to receive fuel and one was never sent out.
This particular individual slip renter went out and purchased a brand new Boat a few weeks ago and chose to never return to Salisbury because of so many issues. They said to me, where's all their money going? They rarely have fuel. There's no maintain ace done there. They rarely ever see them power washing the docks and theirs pigeon crap everywhere. But he kept saying, where's their money going? They usually hire a College Student to work their and they actually provide a place to live upstairs, so they can't be paying them too much money, where's the money going?
You, the taxpayers, have in act been providing between $30,000.00 a year to $50,000.00 year just to keep this management company going, yet no one can understand where the money is going? Doesn't this management company PAY the City every month for leasing this space? It can't be much, if the taxpayers are forking up to $50,000.00 a year to keep them afloat.
Shanie Shields mentioned, maybe we should provide a pavilion and a grill so the Boaters can have a place to hang out. Well Shanie, not for nothing but, where's their money going? She also mentioned holding an event down there with a Jazz Band once a year. She said, don't hold it right at the Docks, hold it across the street. Shanie, wouldn't that event be called, "Riverfest?"
Anyhow, the whole thing stinks. If they had cut my electric off to my Boat several times, let me assure you, there would have been some serious issues right then and there. They treat their customers poorly and have no respect for their property. I have also heard numerous times that they would regularly go on board, (perhaps it's in their contract) and look around. I can remember being on a Boat/Yacht a few years ago with someone else who leased a slip there and when we pulled in, all the gates were locked. It took us almost an hour to get someone out there just so we could get off the docks.
So when the Daily Times writes an article about the Marina the next time, maybe they should talk to some of the Boat Owners out there and see just how many issues they have experienced too.

Judge Mumford Denies Peace Order
It was clearly another very interesting day in Court today as the Somerset County Sheriff Bobby Jones defended his honor against a Peace Order filed against him from Mrs. Donna Pusey. Sheriff Jones was represented by attorney David Moore, who asked some of the most unbelievable questions during the case but I'll get into that later.
Mrs. Pusey started off by asking the Judge for a continuance as she wanted to file criminal charges against the Sheriff and needed more time to do so. Considering Mr. Jones had two continuances and the fact that Mrs. Pusey was willing to delay this case herself, I kind of thought the Judge would grant her wish. Another main reason Mrs. Pusey wanted an extension was because all but one of her witnesses couldn't make it to court today.
What I find interesting about this is, these lawyers know exactly how to beat the system. Give me an extension, give me another extension and when the thing finally makes it to court, witnesses simply can't afford to continue to take off work and show up. This was the case today. This was the third time Mrs. Pusey and her witnesses were asked to be in court in 9 days.
As for her story to the Judge, you all know what happened from my last story and she pretty much told the Judge exactly what she had said in the past. Her witness was brought in and he too confirmed what had happened. Mrs. Pusey did say that she has been asking for the 911 tapes and said they refused to give them to her but they would be willing to give them to her lawyer. Mrs. Pusey explained that she could not afford a lawyer.
Mr. Moore asked Mrs. Pusey, if you were so afraid, why did you approach Mr. Jones vehicle? Mrs. Pusey replied, I was afraid, that's why I went to the passengers side and knocked on the window. Mr. Moore started to ask if Mrs. Pusey knew of Mr. Joe Bisshop's criminal history and started reading off his background. Now look folks, keep in mind, Mrs. Pusey never turned over her list of witnesses. Even though the previous Judge had told her she had to, she did not. The fact that the Sheriff and his attorney were able to obtain his name and do a criminal history check on this man simply for a Peace Order, (IMO) was completely out of line. Mrs. Pusey was not allowed access to ANY information, not even a Case Number.
Mr. Moore then started saying, at no time have you shown any signs of ill affect from any injuries from this accident. Mrs. Pusey replied she had a concussion and many bruises from Mr. Jones hitting her twice with the car. Mr. Moore then said, Mrs. Pusey, do you wear a shawl? She replied, yes I do. He said, is there anything special about that shawl? She replied, it's just a regular old shawl, why do you ask? Mr. Moore said, Mrs. Pusey, do you have a history of any mental conditions? She replied, that's none of your business, your Honor, do I have to answer to these kind of questions? The Judge asked Mr. Moore to move on. He then said, Mrs. Pusey, isn't it true you wear that shawl to keep the demons away? Well, Mrs. Pusey certainly didn't like that at all and quite frankly as an observer, I didn't either.
Again, they went into more testimony as to what had happened and quite frankly Ladies & Gentlemen, Mrs. Pusey was very convincing and right to the point about everything. Her witness made a very good impression as to what had happened as well and the Judge turned to Mrs. Pusey and said, are you afraid of Mr. Jones? She replied, "every time I see that man I'm scared to death." The Judge replied, "BUT WHY, DO YOU THINK HE'S GOING TO DO IT AGAIN?" You see Folks, this is where I don't get it. The Judge even stated AGAIN. That would tell me that the Judge was convinced that something did in fact happen. You had to be there to have a feel for everything that was going on but clearly there was no question as to what had actually happened.
Mr. Moore stood up and said, Judge, we'd like to have the charges dismissed. Judge Mumford denied his request and asked Sheriff Bobby Jones to take the stand. Were you there? YES, said Bobby. Mr. Moore asked him if he had ever been there before? After 22 years of being with the Sheriff's Department he said he had only been there one other time in his life. As things went on he said things like, "The first time I did not see someone behind my car. The second time I did." HELLOOOO! One witness had stated other people were yelling at him to stop because he had just hit Mrs. Pusey and people were yelling at him and he backed up and hit her again. Mr. Jones went on to say, I slowly pulled out of the spot and I slowly pulled away. Mr. Jones also admitted that he did have a young female passenger. Again, both stories were matching up pretty well as to what was going on, the timing of things. The only difference was, some said he hit her, he never really denied it at all, not once. When they asked Mr. Jones if he recognized anyone there he said, no.
Mr. Jones was then asked, why were you there? He said. "I was gathering information for an investigation on a case I'm on." Interesting, I thought he had never been there before. He couldn't identify or recognize any of the witnesses, everyone stated they could smell the alcohol on his breath from quite a distance. They stated the young girl that was with him was known to hang out there to purchase drugs from one of their neighbors.
The Judge then stated there were two dramatic opposing testimonies. He then stated, Mr. Jones has the right to be there. I have to pick who to believe. Peace Order Denied. Mrs Pusey asked the Judge if she could file criminal charges for assault and the Judge said the case must be reviewed by a States Attorney.
Again, delay, delay, delay, Mrs. Pusey seemed quite convincing. Mr. Jone's said several things that almost admitted to much of what had been stated that happened and never denied once that he didn't hit her once and or twice with his vehicle.
If you'd like to read more about what Mrs. Pusey claims happened, GO HERE. I felt just horrible for Mrs. Pusey as she was clearly scared to death of this man. I will keep in close contact with her as I'd like to know just how things go over the next few months. Hopefully Mrs. Pusey is able to get somewhere with the States Attorney as I have it from a very reliable source that Mr. Jones admitted to allegedly drinking that evening as well as his passenger allegedly there to purchase prescription drugs. There's more here than meets the eye but you know, it is the Eastern Shore.
I want to add this closing statement. I do have faith in the Judicial System. I firmly believe that each and every Judge has wisdom far beyond my scope and quite frankly I would never want to be in their shoes. However, I would be lying if I didn't say that after being on this earth now 47 years, here we have a Sheriff who has been a part of that Department for 22 years and a professional career on the line. Then we have a woman who has been on disability for quite some time. This is a woman who cannot afford a lawyer and if I were to make a decision to let this one walk away out of my Court Room, odds are she's not going to sue anyone and the case goes away. Sadly, that's not how the system is supposed to work but with any hope Mr. Jones has learned his lesson and is now aware that his years of allegedly drinking and driving will be past him now. If I were Mrs. Pusey I'd have a video camera ready as well as my neighbors and I'd make very sure everything was recorded from this point forward. A Police Office cannot deny you the right to video everything going on. Cameras/pictures work extremely well too.
There was a point and time when a Mayor many of us once knew had a reputation of drinking quite heavily. I offered a reward to anyone and everyone that if they caught this person doing so and made a video tape available to Salisbury News we would be happy to post it. I'd suggest the same to Somerset County. The Mayor I speak of has never been seen drinking and driving again. It works, trust me.
I need to add, clearly there is some kind of drug market going on in that immediate community. The fact that Mr. Jones had never been there in the past should clear up the fact that he should never, (or rarely) be there again. The fact that he had his Son's Girlfriend in the car with him and as was stated in the court room was known to purchase drugs there, I somehow doubt this was the Sheriff's first time there after 22 years. Here's something else I wanted to add. What's the deal with the article from the Daily Times about this. They weren't even there! Are they simply taking information from what I post and others report and coming up with their own version?????
A Rant Worth Reading
A year ago, my (former) company relocated me to Salisbury in preparation for opening a new office location. They paid part of my relocation expenses, gave me crash courses over a 6 month period in preparation for the new job duties. It was a dream come true, as the majority of my extended family lives in or around Salisbury! For the initial 5 months here, I worked out of a temporary office, alone, recruiting and hiring the start-up staff. Mine was the first face and voice of ‘the company’ in this area. I met with the local staffing agencies, and interviewed hundreds of applicants.
Once the new office opened, the company goal was to have 50 employees within the first year of operations here. I was well on my way to that goal when the company had its official "ribbon cutting ceremony" inviting such local dignitaries, as your favorite mayor, several members of the council, Chamber of Commerce, and Economic Development Committee, etc, etc, etc. On that very same day, a photographer from the local newspaper came to snap my picture as the "face" of the company for an "on the job" feature and employment ad in the following week’s Sunday edition.
Because of that article, it was my face that local citizens here saw representing the company. When I interviewed people, they would say to me, "oh, I saw your picture in the paper"...”I was so excited to read about your company in the paper”, etc… It brought in more recruits, and put us on the map, so to speak.
Then, (drum roll time) the day that I hired somewhere close to the 50th employee, my boss came down from corporate headquarters (where I used to be) to inform me that due to unforeseen circumstances, my job and several others were being eliminated in a "corporate restructure". Besides being completely unprepared for this conversation, I was at a huge disadvantage as I had just returned from the eye doctor, and my eyes were dilated, and I was wearing sunglasses, and couldn’t really see much of anything. My boss told me that they had decided to pull all service-related departments out of the satellite offices, Salisbury included. (Funny thing, they left someone with the same job title in a different and smaller location) I was told personally by my (former) boss, that the budgets were being cut across the board, most of the "displaced" were middle management, or those at the top end of their respective pay scales, around 22 people, and that unfortunately, my position was one eliminated. (The verbiage is right out of the “how to phrase a job loss to an employee handbook) I should not worry too much though, because of my tenure, they were willing to offer me a “generous” severance package, including a one-month service with a renowned career transition group. (Oh boy!)
Here is the decisive factor: in order to be eligible for this severance package after nearly 8 years of loyal service, I had to sign my soul away in a legally binding "severance contract". Have you ever seen a "severance contract" Joe? It is a very scary document, 8 or so pages long. In it, I had to promise not to say anything bad about the company or cause any of my family, friends or acquaintances to do so, AND I had to agree that I would never apply to a position with the company again. (what the???) If I agreed to these and many other things, they would pay me my salary and COBRA payments for 14 weeks, give me a good job reference and tell prospective employers that I resigned.
Well, I am not stupid. First, I consulted with someone who is qualified to know, and by his suggestion changed a sentence about "resigning" to "job eliminated due to corporate restructure", and I signed on the dotted line. What else was I going to do?
So today I am a breathing, walking statistic in the US along with the 500,000,000 (isn’t that what Nancy Pelosi said? Oh, sorry, never mind) other unemployed Americans and who knows how many in our little corner of the US. Neither of us now have medical insurance because I can’t afford the COBRA payment, for both of us it’s around $1300/mo. (that’s less than I get from unemployment monthly, and the same as my house payment)
Please understand, I do get corporate restructure; I have been part of HR for years. I do get that companies sometimes screw up (as we have seen so recently on national news) and they have to eliminate jobs to save face with their board or directors or clients or whomever, and make sure their executives still get their big paychecks. I was okay with it. Really, I was, sad a lot, but I got it. I took the relocation here because I have family in this area. I LOVE being close them, and it made the frustration of the move much easier to handle. I was able to help my daughter by leasing her smaller home, allowing her to buy a larger house to make room for her expanding family. She now has two houses, and two mortgages. The bad thing is that during the process of the move, my husband became increasingly ill, and disabled. He was unable to accept the job he had waiting for him here. We were a two-person, 6-figure income couple a year ago, both now unemployed because of bad business practices, not to mention that we are now fighting the good Social Security fight, (a topic for another day I prefer not to get started on today).
I love Salisbury. I prepared myself for a new job hunt. I was prepared to accept a much smaller salary (I was paid on a Philly/Wilmington area salary). I was prepared to compete with many others applying for the same positions as me. I’m prepared to keep on plugging until someone falls in love with me or I’m the perfect fit for their job/company. Now, after 4 months of job searches, a ton of interviews, and lots of rejection, didn’t I recently receive a job alert from one of my (hundreds of) job boards, and lo and behold, a posting for an HR position with my old company at their headquarters where I just moved from?
Of course, I FLIPPED OUT. I think I have done pretty well here not plotting destruction against this firm. I really do. It is not the same "title" as my position, but functionally and salary-wise, the same. I have hit the edge of my patience, and as my three grown daughters can attest, I am a VERY PATIENT person! (Anyone raising three daughters knows that!) I can now completely empathize with those crazy people who “go postal” now. I am in a blind rage; I am disgusted, and I am done being the nice guy. (better late than never my husband says)
I have no idea if there is any legal recourse against the company, and honestly do not want to go there. However, the severance package is concluded; I am out of money, I am out of medical coverage, I am OUT OF PATIENCE and I AM PISSED OFF. I think someone needs to tell this to the public and all the unsuspecting job candidates who think they are getting some great job with some great company when they are not. There is no employee loyalty, and certainly double standards in their employment practices.
There is nothing they can take from me. I lease my house. The car, which we still make payments on, is untouchable because there is a lien on it. Oh, and by the way, it is sitting nearly totaled in my driveway since my husband had an accident a couple weeks ago, we let the insurance lapse because, you know, unemployment only covers so much, and insurance was not a priority compared to rent/food/electric. I have nothing in savings or checking, nothing in my retirement fund.
This company is functioning in Salisbury, plodding along like a ‘good ole boy’ member of the local business community, and placing ads in the paper for employment opportunities. They claim they are an "employer of choice", a "new neighbor" in the business community.
Can I make them squirm just a little, please? On the other hand, should I just let it go? Usually, I just let things go. But I have to tell you that seeing that job posting tipped me over the edge and I’m thinking to hell with whatever promises I made in that stupid severance agreement. I got to thinking, if I agreed not to apply for a job with them ever again, does that mean when potential employers call them for background verification checks, are they telling them I am NOT eligible for re-employment? Hmm…that’s worth looking into as well.
Thanks for letting me vent, Joe, and for having a place where others like me can do it! What do you think? Post this publicly and risk retaliation, or just let someone like you know privately so that SOMEONE knows about this.

Unhappily unemployed, former ‘good girl’ employee & corporate cheerleader, and really pissed off at corporate injustice.

Here's The Fire Boat Comegys Wants
http://www.metalcraftmarine.com/html/firestorm_40.html
Is this the model/manufacturer they're thinking of getting? No wonder they all have wood. Can you imagine our volunteers taking this for a spin on the Wicomico? Can somebody actually waterski wearing turnout gear?
And where's the money coming from to maintain it? Even if the grants cover the entire cost of purchase, maintenance on this puppy is going to be expensive. And then there's insurance, fuel, additional equipment, etc. My gut says NO, even if it's given to us.
And doesn't the tank farm have a sophisticated fire suppression system? With foam of its own? If not, why not?
So far, Comegys hasn't given us really one solid reason, other than the tank farm, why we would need such a beast.

WHY MEN ARE NEVER DEPRESSED:
Men Are Just Happier People-- What do you expect from such simple creatures? Your last name stays put. The garage is all yours. Wedding plans take care of themselves. Chocolate is just another snack. You can be President. You can never be pregnant. You can wear a white T-shirt to a water park. You can wear NO shirt to a water park. Car mechanics tell you the truth. The world is your urinal. You never have to drive to another gas station restroom because this one is just too icky. You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt. Same work, more pay. Wrinkles add character. Wedding dress $5000. Tux rental-$100. People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them. New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your
feet. One mood all the time.Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat. You know stuff about tanks. A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase. You can open all your own jars. You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness. If someone forgets to invite you, he or she can still be your friend. Your underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack. Three pairs of shoes are more than enough. You almost never have strap problems in public. You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes.
Everything on your face stays its original color. The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades. You only have to shave your face and neck. You can play with toys all your life. One wallet and one pair of shoes -- one color for all seasons. You can wear shorts no matter how your legs look. You can 'do' your nails with a pocket knife. You have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache. You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on December 24 in 25 minutes. No wonder men
are happier.

Update #1 On Bridgeville Fatal Crash - Two Confirmed Deceased
Bridgeville – The Delaware State Police are providing additional details surrounding the fatal crash that occurred earlier tonight on US 13. It has been confirmed that two female juveniles have died in the crash. Their ages have not been confirmed as of the time of this release.
Investigators have learned that a 1997 Dodge Neon was reported stolen from a residence in the 8100 block of Gray Stone Lane, Greenwood shortly after 9:00 pm. In this case it was reported the vehicle was parked in the driveway of the home with the engine running and doors unsecured. An unknown subject entered the vehicle and fled the area.
Investigators learned the stolen Dodge was traveling southbound on US 13 in the left lane at a high rate of speed when it approached a 1997 Ford Van that was occupied by 13 persons. The van was registered to the Grace-N-Mercy Ministries in Georgetown and was also traveling southbound in the left lane ahead of the Dodge.
Preliminary investigation reveals the Dodge, traveling at a high rate of speed, came upon the van and attempted to swerve to the right just prior to impacting the van when it struck the rear of the van casing the van to lose control and enter the center grass median. The van then overturned eventually coming to rest in the northbound lanes on its passenger side.
As a result two juvenile female passengers were killed and 10 other persons were injured and taken to area hospitals for injuries sustained in the crash. Their status is currently unknown. Witnesses informed investigators they observed a single male subject exit the Dodge and run westbound from the crash site into a wooded area. The only description provided was a white male or Hispanic male.
An area search conducted by DSP and Maryland State Police Helicopters, K-9’s and several municipal police officers proved futile as they were unable to locate the fleeing subject. The Delaware State Police are asking anyone who may have information regarding the operator of the Dodge Neon to contact investigators at 302.645.8221, 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1.800.TIP.3333.
Additional details will be released tomorrow morning. The roadway is expected to be reopened at 12:30 am.

Who Voted Democrat?
I Voted...
I voted Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my horse.
I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.
I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.
I voted Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.
I voted Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq I trust that the bad guys will stop what they're doing because they now think we're good people.
I voted Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.
I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.
I voted Democrat because I'm not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.
I voted Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as THEY see fit.
I voted Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.
I voted Democrat because my head is so firmly planted up my *** that it is unlikely that I'll ever have another point of view.
