Look who's "Gone Country"

While CMT's reality music series "Gone Country" has had two prior successful seasons, the 3rd installment hooked me with its first episode, which aired Saturday night. The series takes a group of seven celebrities/former celebrities who want to embark on a career in country music and moves them into a house together for two weeks where they have to participate in challenges and they get to learn the craft, so to speak. The winner is chosen by John Rich of the country duo "Big & Rich", who produces and hosts the series and gets to record and release a song. Latin crooner Enrico Iglesias was the 1st seasons winner and rock frontman Sebastian Bach(Skid Row) took the honors the second time around.

The new cast consists of drummer/musician Sheila E.,American Idol hopeful Justin Guarini, pop singer Taylor Dane, Former Monkee Mickey Dolenz, disgraced beauty queen Tara Connor, actor Richard Grieco (21 Jump Street), and the Godfather of Funk himself-a rainbow haired George Clinton. Ironically Ms.Connor had no clue as to who any of the other contestants were but everyone meshed pretty well after arriving one by one. Before they barely got settled in, a bus arrived to take them to downtown Nashville and the Country Music Hall Of Fame, where they met and were serenaded by the legend George Jones and learned they would be performing live in front of a packed house that very night at The Stage On Broadway.

Naturally, Dane,Clinton and Sheila did their own songs, and Guarnini gave a version of Al Greens "Lets stay Together" that was smooth as butter! Tara will need some vocal coaching but everyone gave their all to their performances.

So if you like reality TV but you are tired of all the skanks on dating shows and stunts on survival shows ,tune in to CMT on Saturday nights to see whos "Gone Country".Reruns air all week on CMT, VH1 and TV Land networks. You do not have to like country western music (not one of my favorites either) to enjoy this reality show.

A Comment Worthy Of A Post About Brooke Mulford Walk & More

"Joe, just a quick update for you.

We actually raised $16,839 through raffles and walkers. This figure doesn't even account for the corporate sponsorships we received from the signs in days leading up to the event.

This thing is working and we are so thankful to all who participated.

Most gracious regards,

Eric Morris

BTW Folks, plans are in the works to get a web-based donation method for Anitra Pirkle's family."

Station 16 Uses EMS Vehicle To Get A Tan

"Not sure if they were on the clock or not, but the driver of this Salisbury EMS #16 vehicle was in line behind me on Saturday at the Tanning Salon. I came out and saw the vehicle parked and thought it interesting that you could tan on company time and drive a company vehicle to your appointment. I will give the benefit of the doubt and say, well maybe he was a volunteer???? Either way, good advertising for them!"

The Tanning Salon was Beach Fever on College Ave and it was around 1pm on Saturday afternoon.

Keep up the good work Chief See & Deputy Chief Gordy.

Beaglin Park Drive Problem

"Joe,

I wanted to contact you concerning something that happened to me on the way back to the office around 1:30 pm today. I was traveling the new section of Beaglin Park Dr, As I approached the RR tracks, I noticed a train coming. As it was getting closer to the crossover , the red lights and gates never engaged. I slowed down and stopped but other cars who hadn't noticed kept buzzing right through the crossover. A pickup came up beside me and had to basically slam on brakes once she realized there was a train right there. As the train was crossing over the street , the red lights started flashing and the gates dropped. By then the train's engine car was already through. The elderly woman rolled down her window and thanked me for being stopped and was quite shaken because she said" I would have never seen it if I hadn't seen you stopped" She thanked me for paying attention and said " why didn't the cross gates come down?" Told her I wasn't sure but I knew just who to email to get the word out. Thanks Joe for being our outlet when important information needs to be out there!!!!!

UPDATED Anitra Pirkle Fund - BB&T Bank

The family of Anitra Pirkle have set up a fund at the BB&T bank. They think a donation, in Anitras name, can be made at any branch.

Funeral arrangements have been made. A viewing is to be held at Bennie Smith Funeral Home on Isabella St on Friday Jan 30 from 6 to 8 pm. The funeral will be held at the Salvation Army on Jersey Road Saturday Jan 31 at Noon.

The family has requested that donations be made in lieu of flowers. They also expressed their sincere thanks to all for your concern and kindness during this time.

UPDATE: I just spoke with the family again and there was some confusion with the bank name. The account is being setup at this time at BB&T bank. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused any of you wishing to help the family with funeral expenses.

The Call For Duty

Today marks a very proud day at the Albero Ranch. My Wife and I are proud to say that her Son, (my Step Son) will be on a bus this afternoon heading to Baltimore and ultimately on his way to Paris Island, SC. tomorrow morning with the Marine Corps. While we expected him to leave March 23rd, two Soldiers were injured in Boot Camp and they called Kyle in to serve his Country immediately. Lots to do in such a short period of time but we're so proud of this young man, as well as his Grandparents. Kyle's Grandfather, Art Goetz served in three Wars with the Marine Corps.

Thank You Preston & Wicomico Visitors Center

'Mr. Albero:

I want to thank you again for the opportunity to take the girls to the rodeo. They had a wonderful time. Here is rose in her cowgirl hat." Above.

"Here is a picture of Emily at the rodeo. You can't see her hat well because she has a black one. We had a great time. The rest of the weekend, they wore their hats and rode around the house on their pretend horses!! Thanks again for the opportunity."

Salisbury News was honored to have participated with Preston and the Wicomico Visitors Center to host a contest for two families and enjoy 4 tickets each to the Rodeo last week. Rose is one of the contest winners and we thank the Family for providing this photo. More contests to come this week.

One SBYNews Post Has 284 Comments So Far

If you've never checked out this Post, it seems to be a Post that just doesn't want to die out. GO HERE to see the 284 comments on "Officers At WCDC Being Ripped Off."

People continue to visit this Post daily and make comments and additional information keeps getting added to the comment section. They regularly call out County Executive Rick Pollitt to take a look at it as well.

The Brooke Mulford Walk

As we mentioned yesterday, 417 people signed up for yesterday's walk around the Downtown area and raised several thousand dollars and fellowship like you've never seen before. Everyone was upbeat and enjoying a fun day out while getting some great exercise. I saw an elderly woman go up to Sheriff Mike Lewis and said, "I didn't see you at the Gym this morning Sheriff." I wonder how tall he felt at that moment? LOL

We invite you to visit Brooke's new updated Website HERE and participate in sending messages back and forth if you'd like. Once again we thank everyone who attended and participated. This has been an unbelievable year of giving already and we appreciate it so much.

Elizabeth Harrington, (WBOC) and I are teaming up to try to put something together for the Pirkle Family. Anitra Pirkle was murdered last week and had no life insurance. The Mother will need to take some days off of work to make arrangements for her Daughter and will not be paid for those days she must take off. Between funeral expenses and time off work, anything we can do to help this Family through very difficult times would be fantastic.

Rare Photos Pulling US Airways Plane Out Of Hudson

"Note that only one engine was sheared off, not both... And considering that landing in water is like landing on concrete, not a whole lotta damage to the Airbus fuselage... Musta been one great spash landing.

These photos were taken by the crane operator lifing the Airbus out of the Hudson River . He's a friend of my buddy Tommy, a fellow member of the CG Aux. .. They lifted the airliner out of the Hudson yesterday... It's now bein' looked at right here in the port of Jersey City."

I Wonder Where All The Stolen Shopping Carts Have Gone?

Wile many local Grocery Stores are complaining about stolen shopping carts, is it such a mystery where they have gone. Need I say more?

2009 Inauguration Photo

I was so busy I only had time to grab one quick photo during the Inauguration.

THE SHORE --- YOU GOTTA LOVE IT

Salisbury

The owner of a golf course was confused about paying an invoice, so he decided to ask his secretary for some mathematical help. He called her into his office and said, 'You graduated from the Salisbury University and I need some help. If I were to give you $20,000, minus 14%, how much would you take off?'

The secretary thought a moment, and then replied, 'Everything but my earrings.'

Cambridge

A group of Dorchester County friends went deer hunting and paired off in twos for the day. That night, one of the hunters returned alone, staggering under the weight of an eight-point buck. 'Where's Henry?' the others asked.

'Henry had a stroke of some kind. He's a couple of miles back up the trail,' the successful hunter replied.

'You left Henry laying out there and carried the deer back?' they inquired..

'A tough call,' nodded the hunter 'But I figured no one is going to steal Henry!'

Denton

The Sheriff pulled up next to the guy unloading garbage out of his pick-up into the ditch. The Sheriff asked, 'Why are you dumping garbage in the ditch? Don't you see that sign right over your head'. 'Yep', he replied. 'That's why I dumpin' it here, cause it says:
'Fine For Dumping Garbage'.

Chestertown
A senior at Washington College was overheard saying... 'When the end of the world comes, I hope to be in Chestertown .' When asked why, he replied he'd rather be in Chestertown because everything happens in Chestertown 20 years later than in the rest of the civilized world.

Pocomoke City
The young man from Pocomoke City came running into the store and said to his buddy, 'Bubba, somebody just stole your pickup truck from the parking lot!'

Bubba replied, 'Did you see who it was?'

The young man answered, 'I couldn't tell, but I got his license number.'

Crisfield

A Maryland State trooper pulled over a pickup on Rt 13. The trooper asked, 'Got any I. D. ?' 20

The driver replied, 'Bout whut?'

Princess Anne

A man in Princess Anne had a flat tire, pulled off on the side of the road, and proceeded to put a bouquet of flowers in front of the car and one behind it.

Then he got back in the car to wait. A passerby studied the scene as he drove by and was so curious he turned around and went back. He asked the fellow what the problem was.

The man replied, 'I have a flat tire.'

The passerby asked, 'But what's with the flowers?'

The man responded, 'When you break down they tell you to put flares in the front and flares in the back. Hey, it don't make no sense to me neither.'

'HEY - You can say what you want about the Shore, but I ain't never heard of anyone wanting to retire to Ballmur!!!!

How Many Of You Experience Wrong Prices At The Register

How about a report of all the store (especially grocery) that have either sales posted, or prices on the shelf that when checking out are different.

This happens to me every single time I go to the store. How many people question "I thought that was "99 cents" "Oh, it rung up 1.29, I will have to call for an override.
I have to send someone to go check the price...etc . etc. etc.

I insist that the price that is rung up be in my view so that I can question when things get rung up different that I think they should. However, many times, when I check my receipt the prices are different than what was posted. or I have been charged twice for the same object.

It seems to be a good story, because it happens to me almost every time I go to the store, and I shop almost all the grocery stores and Sams Club and Walmart.

OK, so here's the deal. We ALL know how frustrating this is but the key is, WHERE DOES IT HAPPEN MOST OFTEN? I think everyone would be interested to know who's screwing up the most and then we should probably add how often we shop at each location each week.

Man oh man, some of these local stores aren't going to be very happy campers when we're through. Oh well, we're the honest ones, not them.

Many More Posts To Come This Morning

There will be several Posts still to come this morning, so you know. Today we'll be putting up articles of interest well past 9:15 this morning. Stay tuned!

We Would Like To Recognize The Sponsors Of Brooke Mulford's Bonfire Fundraiser

Hi Joe,

Don't know if you have space or time, but I put together a list of helpers/businesses that made the bonfire possible. This does not include of course the monetary donations. We had an amazing turnout (as you know!) especially considering the weather...we estimate around 350 people came by, and $12,500 was raised! We were excited that the community backed this and that the event came together in just 5 short days! This cause is so important--it really hit home to so many people that this beautiful little 4 year old girl, Brooke Mulford, has to go through so much. We are happy we were able to raise so much to help with the family's medical expenses. Here is the list--we tried very hard to list everyone who helped. Again, none of this would be possible without the community!

Why Wives Shouldn't Bring Men Shopping

After I retired, my wife insisted that I accompany her on her trips to Wal-Mart. Unfortunately, like most men, I found shopping boring and preferred to get in and get out. Equally unfortunately, my wife is like most women; she loved to browse.

Yesterday my dear wife received the following letter from the local Wal-Mart.

Dear Mrs. Samsel,

Over the past six months, your husband has been causing quite a commotion in our store. We cannot tolerate this behavior and have been forced to ban both of you from the store. Our complaints against Mr. Samsel are listed below and are documented by our video surveillance cameras.

#1 June 15:
Took 24 boxes of condoms and randomly put them in people's carts when they weren't looking.

#2 July 2:
Set all the alarm clocks in Housewares to go off at 5-minute intervals.

#3 July 7:
Made a trail of tomato juice on the floor leading to the women's restroom.

#4 July 19:
Walked up to an employee and told her in an official voice, "Code 3 in Housewares. Get on it right away."

#5 August 4:
Went to the Service Desk and tried to put a bag of M&M's on layaway.

#6 August 14:
Moved a "CAUTION - WET FLOOR" sign to a carpeted area.

#7 August 15:
Set up a tent in the camping department and told other shoppers he'd invite them in if they would bring pillows and blankets from the bedding department.

#8 August 23:
When a clerk asked if they could help him he began crying and screamed, "Why can't you people just leave me alone?"

#9 September 4:
Looked right into the security camera and used it as a mirror while he picked his nose.

#10 September 10:
While handling guns in the hunting department, he asked the clerk where the antidepressants were.

#11 October 3:
Darted around the store suspiciously while loudly humming the "Mission Impossible" theme.

#12 October 6:
In the auto department, he practiced his "Madonna look" by using different sizes of funnels.

#13 October 18:
Hid in a clothing rack and when people browsed through, yelled "PICK ME! PICK ME!"

#14 October 21:
When an announcement came over the loud speaker, he assumed a fetal position and screamed "OH NO! IT'S THOSE VOICES AGAIN!"

And last, but not least.

#15 October 23:
Went into a fitting room, shut the door, waited awhile, then yelled very loudly, "Hey! There's no toilet paper in here!"

It's Time To Play Fair

Ladies & Gentlemen, over time I have poked fun at Gary Comegys and even went on the attack against him all the way up till yesterday. While I may not agree on many of his visions and decisions on policy, Salisbury News has grown to a level in which we must consider local elections very seriously and allow each Candidate to have their fair shake at trying to win their seat as Mayor or City Council.

Joe Albero's view of things is not one that will always be right and I think that showed in the Congressional Race between Frank Kratovil and Andy Harris. While I believe Andy was the best Candidate for Congress, the Voters made their choice and I should have learned my lesson then.

Most recently we brought on board Two Sentz to broaden the democratic side of politics and have openly allowed them to share their thoughts because I firmly believe to this day it was the right thing to do and I hope you feel the same way.

As we honestly get closer and closer to truly competing with the Daily Times, I continue to hear daily that more and more people are cancelling their subscriptions and are now coming to Salisbury News. While our numbers increase every day and stay steady after they rise, we have a serious responsibility of being fair and that's what I'm going to do.

That being said, we have to be more fair on spreading news and information on serious issues like elections. Tonight I called Mr. Comegys and I personally apologized to him for the way I have treated him. I also asked Mr. Comegys to forgive me for my past and I openly invited him to share any and all Press Releases with Salisbury News and I guaranteed him on my word that each and every one of them would be posted EXACTLY as he delivers them to me, should he elect to do so. Mr. Comegys accepted my apology and today is a brand new day for local politics.

I will make that same offer to ANY and ALL Candidates across the board on Mayoral and City Council Seats. My rules to comments on such will be as follows. No cursing and no personal attacks within comments. If you would like to argue policy, go for it. We need to make this a healthy debate. I'll welcome ONE Press Release per week from each Candidate, should they choose to do so.

I also believe we may want to create around 5 to 10 questions a week from readers to the Candidates that can be sent to alberobutzo@wmconnect.com. We will throw those questions out to the Candidates in a post and if they choose to respond, so be it. If they do not, well, it is what it is. They will be fair questions concerning the main interests of the taxpayers of Salisbury. I will start each reply from the Candidates with the questions first and then their reply under each question.

I hope everyone welcomes this new format and while I may not be making many friends with what I'm about to do, I'll at least know I have been fair and honest with my intent and that's all that counts.

GO HERE to see Mr. Comegys Website.

Check Out This 1957 Chevy Style Concept Car

The 789 Chevy is not a classic Chevy yet. However, it is one cool car that looks like a blending of the 1957 Chevrolet, 1958 Chevrolet and 1959 Chevrolet classic designs.

At first glance it looks like an attempt at updating three great old classic's. Then with a second look most reactions change to WOW!

Price of a turn key 789 Chevy is $135,000. Yea, only the rich can afford it, but "dream on" and read more about this great looking 789 Chevy below.

I'll Bet You Never Knew This

The four Goldberg brothers, Lowell, Norman, Hiram, and Max, invented and developed the first automobile air-conditioner. On July 17, 1946, the temperature in
Detroit was 97 degrees.

The four brothers walked into old man Henry Ford's office and sweet-talked his secretary into telling him that four gentlemen were there with the most exciting innovation in the auto industry since the electric starter.

Henry was curious and invited them into his office. They refused and instead asked that he come out to the parking lot to their car.

They persuaded him to get into the car, which was about 130 degrees, turned on the air conditioner, and cooled the car off immediately.

The old man got very excited and invited them back to the office, where he offered them $3 million for the patent.

The brothers refused, saying they would settle for $2 million, but they wanted the recognition by hav-ing a label, 'The Goldberg Air-Conditioner,' on the dashboard of each car in which it was installed.

Now old man Ford was more than just a little anti-Semitic, and there was no way he was going to put the Goldberg's name on two million Fords.

They haggled back and forth for about two hours, and finally agreed on $4 million and that just their first names would be shown.

And so to this day, all Ford air conditioners show Lo, Norm, Hi, and Max on the controls.

So, now you know...

P.S. Don't lose your sense of humor during these challenging times!

Princess Anne VFC Ladies Auxiliary Benefit Dinner

The Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary is hosting a benefit dinner & silent auction for Sara McGee Tocylosski on Saturday, February 7th, 2009. Tragically, 45 year old Sara was involved in an accident last year while visiting Ocean City, MD that has left her a quadriplegic. Through an intense rehabilitation program she has regained partial use of one hand; however she will remain confined to a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Sara currently resides at Genesis Rehab and Nursing Center in Salisbury, MD.

Sara’s family, including her brother Lenny McGee, an active EMT & firefighter of the Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Company, is trying to raise funds to purchase an electric power wheelchair for her. Not only will this motorized wheelchair provide health benefits such as improved respiratory function and prevention of bed sores, it will provide Sara with an overall improved quality of life. This specialized chair will allow Sara to have the independent mobility that she desperately seeks.

The Ladies Auxiliary is sending this letter to request a donation from your business for the silent auction. Items such as gift certificates, products of your business or services that your company offers would be greatly appreciated! 100% of the proceeds from the silent auction and tickets sold for the dinner will go towards the purchase of Sarah’s chair.

Your contribution can help improve Sara’s quality of life!

Thank you in advance for your consideration of our request,

Poor Dog

A lady was telling her neighbor that she saw a man driving a pick-up truck down the interstate, and a dog was hanging onto the tail gate for dear life! She said if the pick-up truck driver hadn't been going so fast in the other direction, she would have tried to stop him.

A few weeks later, her neighbor saw this truck at the Bass Pro Shop in Daphne, Alabama !

The pick-up truck driver is a local taxidermist with a great sense of humor!

Just imagine how many people try and stop this guy!!!
