Mayor Ireton Tells Council, "Move Or I Will Move Without You"

Mayor Ireton has just informed the Council they will either move forward on the first reading for a new Crime Prevention Officer or he will move forward without them.

Councilwoman Cohen stated, PLEASE, let's work together. "I'd like to see the Council come together. Let's pass this on first reading and make adjustments as we move on with it." She went on to say, "on behalf of the citizens, let's join the Mayor and pass this."

Shanie Shields stated, I don't know this young man. "I need to feel comfortable with this young man." She wanted to bring it back to a work session but she saw the writing on the wall and ultimately voted yes on the first reading.

Gary Comegys started grandstanding and back stepping from the last meeting and stated he wanted $150,000.00 above and beyond the $162,000.00 the Mayor said was already in overtime.

The Mayor came back and stated he'd address the Council on additional over-overtime. LOL

Councilwoman Campbell tried to get Council President Smith to commit to placing this on the next work session and Louise responded that she was going to place it on the fast track but refused to state it would in fact be on the next work session. My money says there's no doubt in my mind it will.

  1. Great job Jim! I'm glad you didn't back down. My Daddy lives in Salisbury, his neighborbood received a "gang" tag on someone's window the week before Thanksgiving. Did you hear anything about it in any police reports or in the MSM? Nope! I was surprised by where they are located, thought they might be safe from that sort of thing.

  2. Here's the rest of the story:

During the public comment portion at the end of the meeting, SAPOA's "3 stooges" -- Gary Chandler, Dale Dashiell and Richard Insley -- whined about having too little police presence "on the street". But they made no mention of the fact that Webster has not used the $162,000 of remaining overtime funds, which would afford about $25,000 per month (average) for police overtime during the rest of the fiscal year.

    So, where was Donnie Williams?

  3. Webster has that much in overtime funds and he sends detectives home instead of working on a shooting/attepmted murder?

  4. Can we get some more information on this?

Last week, wasn't Jim talking about all the things the WCSO is already doing, and trying to direct chiefy to join with them. This sounds like another SBY stands alone piece.

  5. Webster has no idea how to make the crime situation better, otherwise he'd have done something already. He's in over his head here, and needs to retire or move on to a simpler town. Whether he's enjoying the chaos or not doesn't matter, what matters is there is no comfort or safety in SBY anymore, and everywhere you go people are talking about it. And saying that it's time for a change of command at SPD. Only HE isn't hearing it.

  7. Even Comegys was getting a clue tonight.

Louise and Shanie better get one.

By the way, if you watched tonight, you got to see why crime victims call Terry Cohen. That sincerity can NOT be faked.

  8. Well it has been exactly 2 weeks this evening that Mr. Knowles, the owner of East Side Deli was shot, robbed and left for dead in the city limits of Salisbury and Webster and his boys haven't picked up the criminal yet. TWO WEEKS damn it. What does it have to take to get Webster fired. Webster told Sheriff Lewis that he didn't need the assistance of Wicomico County's 11 Detectives because his boys had it under control.

This city does not need a crime prevention Officer. This city doesn't need overtime. This city needs a major overhaul and to many egos are in play. The best thing to happen to this city would be the consolidation of the Salisbury Police Department into the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office. What does it take? Do we need a referendum?

Greg Knowles, God Bless You. My prayers are still with you and your family!!

  11. Why do you need a crime prevention officer? I thought that what Webber does. Or is he just the Chief's rat?

  12. Coming from someone who lives in near vicinity to east side deli I can say for a fact things are NOT getting better.

I have one question, why is WMDT the only one reporting the suspicious package that could have been a bomb at Thristys last Thursday night? There was 10+ city cops blocking the whole entire area for several hours. The area is getting worse and it seems like the Salisbury PD is releasing less and less info on what happens around here. There is going to be yet another house for sale here soon to get away from all this mess.

  13. anonymous 9:29, because it was a hoax. Why should I, or anyone else for that matyter, report about a BS package. I personally can"t believe WMDT called it "Breaking News" when it was a joke. It must have been another new reporterts first day. Get used to it, they're going through people just as fast as WBOC.

  14. Use Websters salary to pay the overtime, he didn't earn it.

  15. Why are the 3 stooges so blind that they cannot see what is in the best interest of the Salisbury community? Or, are they just plain stupid?

  16. "I don't know this young man. I need to feel comfortable with this young man". To whom is the reference? Has anyone been identified? The best man for the job could be a a woman.

  17. Perhaps Comegys should donate $150,000 of the salary the state paid him for doing absolutely nothing.

  18. Louise Smith should be run out of town on a rail!

  20. What the hell is a crime prevention officer going to do, simple stay out of the city, do live there, don't shop there, don't open a buisness there, don't patron anything there until Webster and Livingston are gone. That is the only thing he can tell you to do that all the officers already don't know. This is a waist of money.
