The Gordy's Seem To Be Destroying The Salisbury Fire Department

Little Gordo and Tower 16 Get Spanked!

At approximately 10:30 AM Station 5, 16 and 74 just got dispatched for a house fire in Hebron's first due in the area of Ocean Gateway and Stanton Avenue. The paid duty crew from Station 16 was responding in Engine 16. Chief Beach told Wicomico Central to cancel Engine 16. He wanted the Tanker from station 16 so Tanker 16 responded with a driver only which is acceptable. The duty officer on Engine 16 tries to contact Chief Beach to see if he wanted Engine 16 to continue in for more staffing. Then someone else gets on the air and tells Engine 16 no. The duty officer on Engine 16 attempts to contact Chief Beach again about making up the staffing. Again the same little voice pops up on the radio and it is "acting lieutenant" Gordo telling the duty crew to cancel and Tower 16 will make up the staffing. At that time Chief Beach finally gets a word in edgewise and tells Central to cancel Tower 16. He does not want the tower truck he wants the tanker from Station 16.

Again the little criminal volunteer and his daddy Gordo are running the Salisbury Fire Department and now they are trying to run the County Fire Departments. Those criminals are unstoppable and the only one to blame is MAYOR JIM IRETON!!! Jim Ireton had the perfect opportunity to cure that problem when he took office 7 months ago, that's right SEVEN MONTHS ago! Jim Ireton gave Gordo and Hoppes an open checkbook and full power when he allowed John Pick to appoint Rick Hoppes as the Acting Fire Chief.

I encourage all county and city residents to contact Jim Ireton and tell him what you think about his weak leadership skills and his mistake in appointing Rick Hoppes as the Fire Chief. He is already receiving negative email about his irrational choice and I implore each and everyone one of you to keep the heat up.

Jim Ireton can be reached at

  1. Ireton is a worthless piece of $hit as a leader. I believe his calling is better suited as a professional cheerleader.

  4. And all it was, a woman saw white smoke from the by-pass. she wasn't even from this area. since when does a house fire produce smoke. It was someone doing a control burn at their home. Yet they called out stations 5,16 and 74 for a reported house fire. What a waste of resources.

  5. You are wrong the tower was responding back to 16 for the tanker. The tanker goes with a full crew when it goes out of the station. The only time it goes out with a driver only is in town ONLY.The driver of the tanker should have not left the station which will be corrected ASAP!Also the assistant chief 1 knew what was going on and had sent tower 16 to the station to get the tanker.

  8. The driver of tanker 16 didn't follow the SOPs.That person needs to get his story straight before contacting you Joe.This is the same person that can't go 10 seconds without coughing a lung up. He is in no way fit for duty.

  9. As a leader Ireton has no experience or raw talent.

We should have known better than to elect him and won't make that mistake again.

  11. The name Gordy only spells trouble any way you look at it big or little. It’s like the land of misfits only in the fire department problem is nobody has balls enough to stand up against Gordy because of his retaliation. Face it most men & women join fire departments because they like what they do and for the camaraderie. No one wants to put up with a bunch of crap so it pays to keep your mouth shut. If you do come out and say something you then have a target on your back for them to start picking at you. This is one reason Salisbury needs a chief from outside to come straighten out the mess and take Gordy out of power. If Hoppes does get chief it will be the same ole crap headed by Gordy.

  12. Jeremy knows tower 16 doesn’t go to Hebron unless requested and did it anyway which proves his defiance. Hebron very clearly wants tanker first engine second with help preferably both staffed for man power. Hebron needs water more than anything out of town.

  13. anon 2:52 PM I do agree that Salisbury needs a new fire chief, but I would caution your wish for one from the outside. A new chief from the outside would be a mistake because Gordy and Hoppes would win them over just as they have done your new mayor. It might be better to find a strong leader from within the department who knows what the city needs and knows how to take care of the current problems.

  15. Thank you Chief Beach for cancelling Tower 16. He knows he wasn't supposed to go, but went anyway while daddy watched. You can stand up and put him in his place but we can't. The second you correct him your retaliated on because you picked on Jeremy. The sooner you get rid of both of them, the better Salisbury fd will be.

I am disappointed with Mayor Ireton for continuing the same old same old after he promised help was on the way.

But look at that ridiculous council he has to deal with. He gets no cooperation at all from those three nasty ones.

Hey Dumb Dumb, why would a "tanker" respond to a call in town only?? Isn't there hydrants in town where a "tanker" wouldn't be needed! Funny you are calling someone wrong!

  21. volunteers are supposed to staff the tanker when the duty crew is out on the road. in that case the engine goes and leaves the responsibility of the tanker responding to the volunteers. it was not against sop or in this case it would be the third version of the response matrix. second the tanker is equipped to operate on two levels per sfd. 1 as an engine tanker( which i believe hebron prefers that capacity) minimal staffing of three.2 tanker minimal staffing of one. since that has been clarified the person who got it out today (i personally would put him up against anyone) was not in the wrong. the volunteers who were supposed to get the tanker out decided to do what they want. SUPRISE!! not. little gordy and his little clan of big city fireman wannabe's have no clue of what is supposed to happen. all they do is show up and ride around the city in the tower. it is honestly ridiculous. hey gordy a rescue truck isnt supposed to use oil rags as wndshield wipers. again nothing was done though. its pointless to argue about it. the city's few good volunteers and corrupted by the countless useless and defiant ones.

I wouldn't be so quick to blame the short comings of Ireton on the 3 Stooges since he hasn't even attempted to exercise his authority. 26. Ireton is "laid-back" which is exactly what everyone around here says about life on the shore. Personally I prefer cut-throat and accountability to the backwards way things are done around here. At any given time my workplace has numerous broken machines/equipment, locals that disappear throughout the day, no accountability for wrong-doing and lazy upper management. It seems to me that those who want accountability(myself included) are fighting the long time good ol boy ran eastern shore. I'm not from around here and I can tell you this, life around here is an ignorant joke. Laid-back is right, as long as you know someone on the inside then you'll never have to work again, you can throw trash everywhere in your yard, park broken down cars in your yard and pretty much do whatever you want as long as no one catches you. Criminals run the city. Welcome to Salisbury!

You are incorrect. The Engine went enroute, and was canceled for the engine tanker, due to lack of hydrants in the area. Then the engine tanker reponded with one, and like was said above, couldnt hardly get a word in because of the tower. The Tower was canceled, because it shouldnt have been on the way anyhow, I dont know who was on it, nor do I care.

What I do know, is that certain departments have a list of what equipment for mutual aide goes where for certain types of calls, and in certain areas. Evidently certain people in salisbury feel they can do whatever they want in other stations first due. I am glad they have learned a lesson today.

I applaud cheif beach for doing what needed to be done.

I agree with the poster above that I am thoroughly disappointed and disgusted with Jim Ireton's lack of leadership skills. I am sick of his lies to get our support and him elected. I am sick and tire of Jim Ireton doing nothing while this city crumples around us. I am sick and tired of Jim Ireton rewarding people like Hoppes and Gordo with free rein of the city taxpayers checkbooks and spending authority in the Salisbury Fire Department. Jim Ireton promised the career firefighters their would be change in leadership if he supported them with his election. Jim Ireton promised the volunteer firefighters the same. Those men and women went above and beyond to get Jim Ireton elected as mayor and now he is laughing at them. Those men and women put their jobs on the line for the sake of a better city and now each and every one of them are in fear of their jobs. They are being snubbed by the same man they helped get elected. They are being harassed by upper management. They went out on a limb for a better city and now the same man they helped get elected has turned his back on them and the city. Jim Ireton you should just bend your head in shame and walk away.

You all come here for vacation and think things are one way, , and then decide well lets live there its so wonderful. The reason things are so bad on the shore is because of allof the come heres. There are more of them and us now. Before we became a suburb of the 95 corridor there was hardly any crime, nobody locked doors, you trusted your neighbor. police and fd's were ran by people who actually care what was going on around them. someone should of torn the bridges down about sixty years ago and all would still be pleasant living ont the eastern shore.

  51. If there were ever a large scale fire in Salisbury it would be catastrophic for the area. The fire department is apparently under the command of a power hungry mongrel, the mayor runs around smiling for the camera but doing little more than that, the chief of police learned all his tactics from watching late night reruns of Hill Street Blues and Dragnet oh and of course he desires to be one of the "Super Troopers", and the people just continue to bend over and let all of the above stick it to them.

Wake up people in the event something does go seriously wrong in Salisbury do you really want your lives and your property in these peoples hands? Unless you are not overly attached to any of your possessions and you do have excellent insurance I would think not!

  52. There is no way to get these masons out of power. No way to take away their control. They are too well organized and far too secretive.

    Let's be realistic.

The best thing is to suck up to these guys and hope for the best. Give them our money and votes. Let them take care of us. Allow them to skim some off the top in co-horts with the Gilkerson Tribe and look the other way.

If we continue to look at this criminal group in places of power we will become crazy. Just move on Salisubry.

I've heard these stories for the past 30 years here. New comers don't understand. Those of us who are born and raised here know the truth. These families have always been in control here in Salisbury and it is not going to change.

If the Mayor allows Hoppes to become the fire chief without the qualifications, and overlooks personnel who have all the needed qualifications, I hope that they get sued by the parties who were overlooked. Ireton, Council, you can't afford to keep either one of these individuals. Change is good. And the fact that outside Chief's with qualifications have applied, they need to come in and straighten this turmoil out.
