Mayor Jim Ireton, Fire Chief Rick Hoppes & Deputy Fire Chief Bill Gordy Lied

The Firestorm 36 is, in fact, made in Ontario, Canada. The dock they have in up state New York is for the smaller boats.

This is a Canadian Company thru and thru.

I guess Jim Ireton's statements on how this will stimulate the American Worker's is full of Crap.

While some of the parts may be assembled in the U.S., Jim Ireton needs to stop lying to the taxpayers and start acting more responsible.

What would Salisbury do without Salisbury News to dig and find the facts. More importantly, if politicians and greedy jackasses like Hoppes & Gordy would simply stop abusing federal grants and other funding, perhaps America could start to recover. In the mean time, if you want to look at those individuals who are fully responsible for this financial cluster we're in, look no further than the Mayors Office and the Salisbury Fire Department. This is completely unnecessary and fiscally irresponsible.

  1. Let this go, please. What's done, is done. What are you going to say next, that the check written to buy the boat is written on the back of Obama's phony birth certificate? The irresponsible journalism that is practiced on this blog is much more harmful to this country than the acquirement of emergency equipment with tax dollars.

  3. WOW Do people really think that this is FREE MONEY? There is no such thing as FREE MONEY things like this make taxes go higher and normally its assess to the small business companies and Federal taxes going up. I see this as a hand out that is going to cost jobs not provide them. (more taxes on small business mean less employees....do you realy think that the owners are going to take less money...no ....they get rid of an employee and make the other employees do more work, which makes life harder on them....and these are normally the people that have their hand out for a hand out and do not realise that it comes full circle...You pay one way or another

  4. This is WASTEFUL spending!
Fix the roads, fix the curbs, fix the sidewalks, fix stuff that's been neglected for SO long.
Why keep buying and buying and buying?
    To be top dog?
Taxpayers need to revolt on all this spending crap. Not just in Salisbury, but everywhere!
Wish I could garner enough people to STOP PAYING YOUR TAXES until this all stops! Then, they won't have any money to WASTE!

  5. Can you put up the video of that part of the meeting so that everyone can see exactly what happened with nearly a million dollars of our tax money?

  9. Are there any American Companies that make fire boats like this? Will they be able to bid on it?

  10. I don't care where it's made. Why do we need it?

  11. Up keep is going to cost Tax payers plenty! Something needs to be done to put a stop such waste of tax payers money! A play toy for the play boys----is what it amounts to.

  12. There was a time in the City of Salisbury when equipment purchased had to go out on sealed bids, especially when spending tax payer dollars. It seems that all 5 of the last pieces of equipment did not go out on bids. There is a ship building company with in Salisbury did they have a chance to bid on this equipment. With a spec. sheet I am sure they could build anything needed by the City for fire and rescue needs on the river. It someone checked they would find out that things aren't bid anymore in the fire department. This is not the way to do business with grant money or tax payer dollars.

  14. If Salisbury really needed a fireboat I would think the Baltimore port captain would have ensured the port of Salisbury had one long before now. Fact of the matter is Gordy called in every favor and connection he had to get his little boat. Gordy ran up to Baltimore a gazillion times to stroke Mr. port captain and with his help they concocted their plan to acquire a fireboat. I suggest council ask for fire department run sheets to prove where the current boat ran 5.33 calls on average over the last five years. LIE! Other than SMAG drills, 4th of July, Christmas boat parade I know of maybe one call that boat ran. All in all Salisbury has no need for a fireboat its all about Gordys pretty picture.

  15. Thank you for you courage to speak out Captain Smith. Salisbury could use your experience and wisdom these days. The moral in the Salisbury Fire Department is at an all time low and Mayor Ireton is to damn stupid to listen to the majority. As long as Mayor Ireton keeps Hoppes and Gordy in power the fire department is going to continue to lose members as well as cost tax payers millions of dollars in wasted spending each year.

  16. Some should check the city procurement requirements. If your a contractor performing civil work in the city, all materials MUST BE AMERICAN MADE. This standard is strictly enforced during the inspection. The public works department stands by this requirement to the point of ensuring that vehicles they purchase are made in the US. Does the boat not apply??

  17. Those clowns Gordo and Hopeless spent hours upon hours rehearsing their speech for the Dog and Pony Show in front of the city council and they fell for it hook, line and sinker. They got so many talking points from "captain port" it's pathetic. I am confident at this point someone got a kickback for this project as well.

  18. Same kickback like the ones from the Pierce fire apparatus????

  19. WTF? Even if they could justify the need to purchase such a boat, they're already understaffed as is, and in turn have no one available to operate it. Get real and get these clowns out of office. No wonder the taxpayers of this city look down at us. I'm embarassed to say I'm a Salisbury Firefighter and that's why I'll remain anonymous!!!!
