Wicomico Big Land Grab – Part II

Here we go again!

After failing to pass legislation that would strip Wicomico land owners of their property rights earlier this year, the NIMBY enviro coalition led by Wicomico councilman Bill McCain, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, WET, et al are at it again.

Under the guise of securing certification from MALPF (the Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation), McCain and his pals will again argue that stripping land owners of their property rights – WITHOUT COMPENSATION – is somehow required to make those merry Marxists in Annapolis happy.

Again, it will be a tough fight.  Again, we’ll have to see if County Executive Rick Pollitt will break his word (as he was prepared to do with the ill-fated McCain / Pollitt / Cannon compromise.  Again, we’ll have to see if councilman John Cannon decides to vote in favor of our property rights (and hence, our liberty) or buckle to a group of left wing special interests and dilettantes.

Expect to see cash thrown at this by the likes of CBF (at least two postcards per household).  It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

  1. Here we go again w/ a GA rant. Get a clue GA. The farmers who enter this program are not only compensated, they retain the rights to their land too. Educate yourself.

  2. Really? What is the purpose of MALPF then?

Farmers either give up (willingly) or sell their development rights when they put their property into this program. If they do so willingly, great. If they are forced to, bad deal.

Let's try this again. I never claimed that they lost the right to lose their land. I stated, CORRECTLY, that McCain et al are using the MALPF certification as a red herring to get their little socialist dream.

With all due respect, education begins with reading. Work on it.

  3. McCain has got to go in the next election (if he runs which is doubtful IMO). Cannon is a question at this point.

  4. MALPF is a totally voluntary program. In fact, the farmers apply and submitt what they would like to see in compensation for their development rights. After appraisals are submitted, they are made an offer by the Dept. of Ag and if they don't like the offer they can pass.

It is a program to help farmers keep their land instead of selling it off lot by lot when they need some money. They keep all of their acreage and still farm it but they cannot develop it because they have "sold" it in a sense to the State. It's in the vein of having your cake and eating it too.

They also get to exclude a lot for themselves and one for each of thei children from the conservation easement.

Don't get me wrong, I despise McCain. He's unethical and stupid - a bad combination.

  5. "their little socialist dream"

See, there is where you lose all credibility by trying to scare votes with buzzwords you know (or at least should be smart enough to know) in no way, shape, or form actually apply. Try putting down the republican playbook and think of something for yourself.

  6. If you do not build homes this county is bankrupt.

  7. Is this the so called " fair & Objective" Commission that Mr. Pollitt promised? Politicians, they are all worthless.

  8. Not if you remove the revenue cap 9:48.

  9. More government inference with our lives and ownership. This is becoming a socialistic country, state and now county. Please elected officials give the landowners a break and just say no to the powers to be. I beg of you!

  10. 9:48 and 11:30, thanks to the cap, we will go bankrupt anyway.

My problem isn't with the MALPF program. It's with Annapolis trying to dictate land policy to Wicomico County and using the MALPF program as a means of doing it.

Gee, what do YOU call it when the government comes and takes your property rights without just compensation? Socialist was one of the kinder terms that came to mind. Communist? Marxist? Fascist? How about TYRANNY? This isn't from any playbook other than our founding documents. Your comments are right out of the Saul Alinsky playbook - when you're wrong, deride the opposition.

  12. Mr. Harrison, you are a quintessential drama queen nut-job. I suggest that you eat another dozen doughnuts and crawl back in your hole.

  13. While we're getting rid of McCain and Cannon lets send Sample-Hughes down the pike with them. She is as worthless as tits on a boar hog. Quarterly meetings don't mean diddly when she's voting with the majority (Louise, Shanie) because she doesn't have a clue what is going on.
