On Sunday, July 5, 2009, at approximately 6:05 a.m., two Ocean City Police Officers had recently completed their shift and were heading home when they witnessed a woman igniting an American flag with a cigarette lighter. As the officers approached the woman, who was later identified as Rebecca Ellen McKimmie, 18, of Ocean City, Maryland, they saw her stand between two lanes of traffic leading to the Rt. 50 Bridge and continue to light the flag until it was actively burning.
McKimmie, who then began to stomp on the American Flag, caused several cars to
swerve their vehicles in order not to strike her. When officers asked McKimmie why she was burning the American Flag the day after the celebration of the United States of Americans Independence Day, she told them that she was “making a statement.”
Police arrested McKimmie and charged her with Desecrating a Flag and Disturbing
the Peace. McKimmie was seen by a District Court Commissioner and released on her
own personal recognizance.
Thanks to the OCPD officers who arrested this worthless individual. If she doesn't like this country then she can go the hell somewhere else!!
ReplyDeleteMy wife would have kicked her ass.
ReplyDeleteYet another illustrious Decatur graduate.
ReplyDeleteIf you were just a little kid with a b.b. gun and shot her ,(not in the eye) but shot her good do you think you would be in trouble? Do you think your mom & dad would be mad? What would Grand-Ma & Pop-Pop say? The defining line I quess. What are you gonna do?
ReplyDeleteOcean City has it's next prostitute
ReplyDeleteEach member of congress, in just 1 vote has been 1000 times over....more disrespectful to our flag, our country, each member 1000 times more un-american, more destructive. This 18yr old is by far ignorate...and your ready to hang her....congress knows better....BUT...you do NOTHING!
ReplyDeleteShe is lucky some p*ssed off soldier/Veteran did not cruise through there while was desecrating our Nations flag.
ReplyDeleteYoung people these days have no respect any one or any thing. This lack of respect is a life long lesson learned at home. Had I even thought about acting like that when I was younger my dad would have kicked my ass to no end. I'm 34 so I'm not old by any strech, but the mentality of "young" people these days really pisses me off.
ReplyDeleteI believe in each individuals first ammendment rights however, she was in traffic and I personally believe that burning our Flag should be against Federal Law.
ReplyDelete50 lashes with a horse whip and then send her to the country of her choice. That is also a public statement I am sure someone will disagree with. Burning an American flag in public the way she has done is not a statement it is a disloyal act of treason towards this great country. If she does not like it here she is FREE to leave.
ReplyDeletean Obama supporter I'm sure !
ReplyDeletethe officer that arrested her is former Marine.
ReplyDeleteshe has the right to do that but not in the middle of traffic...she has made her statement regardless because she has been given all this attention for what she did
ReplyDeletePunch her again Kim, kick her Quappo. Scratch her eyes Jessie. Some body get that guy with the camera,(now). There are a lot of ways, or should I say means to and END. Depends on what your willing to risk, and how much it means to you. You think thats bad? Wait til I show up.
ReplyDeleteHer statement,,,18 year old dumb azz!
ReplyDeleteListen, if the U.S. Constitution is just a G D piece of paper, then, isn't the flag just a G D piece of cloth?
ReplyDeleteIt is legal for her to burn the flag, and we are stronger for it. Protesting our government, for any reason, is a cornerstone of the Democracy and should be protected at all costs. It is the same as our Freedom of Speech and the axiom, "I may not like what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
ReplyDeleteWhen someone questions or challenges the government and its polcies, however misgided, it is not an attack on anyone who has served this country or died defending it. Those people fought and died for this girl's right to do this.
If the Nation, and our freedom, is in so tenuous a position as to make us al fearful of something as trivial as a burning flag, then we are worse off than any of us has admitted.
Additionally, fag buring works as a political tool because it gets eveyone so worked up. You want to remove its power? Ignore it.
Charges will be dropped. It's an expression of free speach. Nuff said.
ReplyDeleteDESECRATION OF THE NATIONAL OR STATE FLAG
ReplyDelete$1,000.00 - 1 YEAR
**DESECRATE FLAG**
...did intentionally [mutilate/deface/destroy/burn/trample
upon/otherwise use] a flag in a manner [intended to incite and
produce an imminent breach of the peace/ under circumstances
likely to incite and produce an imminent breach of the peace].
NOTE: "Flag" includes any flag, standard, color ensign or
shield made of any substance or represented or produced
thereon and of any size, evidently purporting to be such flag,
standard, color, ensign or shield of the United States or of this
State.
Dan, you might want to read the above. It's a state law. Flag burning in Maryland IS against the law, if it's not a peaceful protest.

ReplyDeleteDo you have to lump this flag burning idiot in with the rest of us? I'm a Democrat, but I would NEVER even think of burning or stomping on an American flag. It's just wrong.
9:55,
ReplyDeleteHow do you know she wasn't a pissed off Conservative who thinks we're a Socialist country now... and wants to start the "revolution"?
